Hello everyone - yet another thread. I'm expecting a call anyday soon from ITV - as I imagine we'll be prime candidates for taking over the Loose Women slot when they need a break

So, for anyone interested in joining in with us - just jump in and say Hi - we don't bite - unless you're disguised as a chocolate sponge cake

I feel very very lucky too heron If I was younger I would have taken it all for granted but I don't now. I suppose there's the added thing of constantly hearing how women our age are too old and its all too risky etc that when you find you can fall pg easily and have a healthy baby you do feel extra blessed.

I wouldn't worry about the late jabs - its only a guideline isn't it? D's were all a few weeks behind for the same reason.

sorry - can't help re the BCGs - another thing I can't remember - why don't you ask the nurse when you take DS1 along for his jabs?

heron22 · 21/03/2009 14:43

yes good idea, will ask the nurse

i agree about feeling blessed. i feel extra lucky because i conceived very quickly both times and i only have 1 ovary! the other was removed due to a tumour.

ah, i hear my LO stirring, he is due for a feed about now.

is your LO sleeping through? i mean from midnight to about 6am? the night feeds are so hard.

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 14:58

no - he isn't he wakes for one or two feeds between midnight and 6am. Shocking isn't it? Sometimes he will take a feed at 2am and another at 5am. If we are lucky it's one at 3am. It's bloody killing me! This is why I have had three colds in a month I reckon. Have tried everything but it seems he is just programmed to wake and feed then and won't stop 'til he is good and ready.
He has never once slept through in six months. He is quite big and heavy although I have no idea what he weighs as I never got him weighed since he was 8 weeks old.

heron22 · 21/03/2009 15:03

ah you poor thing that is tough. does he have a big feed at those times? i dont know how you keep it up! are you breastfeeding?
i only have enough milk for my baby's first 2 feeds, his first one at 7am and the next one at 11am. after that it is formula. he is a big baby and is very hungry. my breasts just dont make enough. so the rest of the day, i express milk and keep it in the fridge for the next day.

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 15:19

no - formula feeding unfortunately - there was a problem at the beginning in that I had a retained placenta and it had to be manually removed - apparently, according to the midwife, this can cause a problem with the hormones starting the milk supply. After several days there was no milk despite the best efforts of myself and the midwife at encouraging it and I had to feed him formula and he was very very hungry and that was the end of it.

It is tough going I have to admit - especially not that I am back at work full time. I'm hoping that soon he will decide to sleep through...

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 15:20

oh yeah - its when he does his best feeding - the middle of the night...

johnworf · 21/03/2009 17:38

ermintrude I shall have an unwilling volunteer ready with the video cam as I've checked with DH and he's told me he's made no effort whatsoever. Check on next week's You've Been Framed - I could be £250 up At least your DH has a good excuse not to sort something out.

K didn't have the BCG. It isn't routinely given to babies in manchester unless you are of asian parentage or have asian family living with you. As already suggested, I'd ask the nurse.

heron22 · 21/03/2009 17:48

mts boogie does your LO sleep a lot during the day? sounds like he needs the food if he is feeding so much at night!

when are you going back to work?

i am shattered due to the lurgy, the whole family is quite tired we will turn in early tonight i think.

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 18:08

he has two one hour naps during the day - occasionally three. I went back to work a month ago - hence D going into nursery and the resulting lurgies! it wasn't so bad before but the tiredness is worse when you have to go to work I find.

Best thing - a good night's sleep! Hope you all feel better soon.

johnworf · 21/03/2009 19:45

Well it's quiet on here today. Is everyone have a racey time like me?

Was going to see a friend tonight but I've felt the wrath of the Xenical instead No, I didn't have an accident but this afternoon, I was feeling peckish so I had 5 rice cakes and 2 fat free yoghurts. I thought this was highly acceptable but not so. An hour after my evening meal I was having tummy pains and was then confined to bathroom for half an hour. Not the runs but boy, I won't be repeating that again So there you go, they work. Anyway, I cancelled visit just in case. Not good etiquette to have accidents on other people's sofas.

Feel a bit fed up today. Shoulder is still uncomfortable and I've been fretting over the lump. Dreading Monday morning for bloods but I have to get this over and done with. Sigh.

Could do with some comforting chocolate. Or anything. Bottle of wine even though I don't drink. Even considering buying a packet of cigarettes and I gave up ages ago. I won't do of course but it's hard where there is literally no vices to turn to when you most need one.

ermintrude13 · 21/03/2009 20:16

JW bad news about your toilet trouble . Can't see how rice cakes and fat-free yoghurt can be a problem though; I thought it was just eating too much fat that would give you problems. Boo anyway.

Have you got some hot chocolate in, if you don't have it in bar form? Or treat yourself to a small cooking sherry . Try to resist the fags if you can. I was talking to a friend a couple of nights ago who gave up two years ago but got v pissed last week and bummed a ciggie off a friend. Asked for the lighter and lit up - then realised an entire pub-full of drinkers was staring at him in silent amazement, until his mate quickly took it out of his mouth and stubbed it out sharpish. It was so long since he'd smoked that he'd completely forgotten about the ban. That's a big change that's happened v suddenly, ain't it?

Seeing your DC tomorrow should help take your mind off the bloods and as others have said I think that if there were any real danger of it being serious the GP wouldn't have left it. If it's not a simple lymph node it might just be something benign that nevertheless needs removing. I was racking my brains for similar cases when I remembered that about 8 yrs ago my mum had a lump on her neck, just under her ear, for about a year before she saw the doc (she was a doctor and therefore rubbish at her own healthcare) and much to her concern he organised a biopsy for two days later. She was all gowned and ready for pre-med and the surgeon came to mark where he'd be cutting, only to find it had disappeared. They never did find out what it was but it hasn't come back.

Hope you manage to think about other things (not diarrhoea or sore shoulders) x

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 20:23

Christ jw that's terrible - having no vices to turn to I mean- how about a little naughty internet spending? eh? go on - you know you want to. I bloody well would.

Been trying to think of something that's sugary but not fatty hmmm No dice I'm afraid. Find it hard to believe that rice cakes and yoghurt caused your err indisposition... might it not have been something you ate earlier?

johnworf · 21/03/2009 20:41

Nah mrsb. I can't think of anything I've had today other than the rice cakes and yoghurts. Unless the low fat combined in them (obviously on the rice cakes as the yogs were fat free) made it past the 12gram mark which I find very hard to believe. I had stir fry with king prawns for my tea but didn't finish it all. Lordy, the tummy pains were a bit scary afterwards. But, erm, the 'product' was fine and as it should be and not runny or anything. It's weird. It's like my body just flipped and wanted to get rid of everything

ermintrude lol@your friend lighting up. How embarrassing. I can see how easy it is when you've had a few shandies. I'm not gonna buy any fags. That would be plain silly.

Am very much looking forward to the older ones turning up tomorrow

I think I might do a bit of retail therapy. Unusually I can't think of what I would like to look at - very unlike me. I'm sure if I scour hard enough something will come to my attention! Btw mrsb my DH would flip if he knew someone was encouraging me to spend! LOL. Fabulous.

I'm still getting over the shock of how much my specs were. I got a discount for buying 2 pairs at the same time (one normal and the same frames again made into sunglasses with lenses) £235 seems a lot to me but then, if you need 'em, you need 'em. The optometrist really cheered me up and told me my eyes had got worse (I knew this already) and that by the time I reach my late 40's, they'll be really bad F*king c*t. Like I needed THAT news! Kick a girl while she's down why don't ya!

I wonder if it's worth using mother's day, my feminine charm and offers of unlimited sex to get an iphone? Worth a try I suppose

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 21:20

an iphone for a shag? sounds a fair deal to me...

aha jw you have lead me down the path of retail intemperance often enough...

'ere what about a nice dress for K's Christening since you are too thin for the one you originally bought

so were these pains bad because they hurt or because you thought they were the harbingers of some dreadful anal expulsions?

Tee2072 · 21/03/2009 22:23

I agree with mrsb JW, a beautiful dress for K's chistening!

I have just gotten home from a lovely dinner at Nick's Warehouse here in Belfast. I had Crab Claws, Lamb Leg and chocolate/marshmallow cake for pudding. SO YUM!! I also had an entire glass of white wine.

JW I have been wearing glasses since I was 5. They now cost me approximately £300 every other year! And I don't spend a lot on frames! My eyes are so bad that even with the thinned down lenses (and what a fab invention that was) they are almost coke bottles when viewed from the side. Before they could thin them and make them from plastic? OUCH!

mrsboogie · 21/03/2009 22:51

tee glad to hear you had a good night - and enjoyed a glass of wine - it amazed me how enjoyable (and long lasting) a glass of wine can be when pregnant. The pud sounds v nice.

Tee2072 · 22/03/2009 08:04

Good Morning all and Happy Mother's Day!!!

I actually got a card and a little teddy bear! I wasn't expecting anything, since I'm not really a mum yet! Very sweet of my DH.

Hope everyone is at least getting a lie in today.

FloriaTosca · 22/03/2009 08:48

Ha! A lie in?!!!!! I cooked dinner for the Ils and nephews as an early Mothers Day thing for mil last night..we then went to Dhs pals' sons 18th which had no quite room as promised so Alex (and another pals 21mth old)didnt get to bed until 11.30 and then Alex had me up at 3.00 for a feed and 5 for the same but wouldnt go back down in his own cot so I ended up bringing him into bed with us...he woke at 6.55 for good..and did Dh offer to give me a second lie in? Oh no, I had my chance yesterday and blew it by getting up at 8.00 to make Dh fresh bread for breakfast....Looks like I'm cooking breakfast too as well as dinner tonight for my mother....I'm somewhat dischuffed as you might be able to tell...what is more if I remonstrate I just know the answer is going to be "you're not my mother..."

Hope everyone else is getting the 5* treatment.

FloriaTosca · 22/03/2009 08:49

..ooops ..."quiet room" not quite room

johnworf · 22/03/2009 09:14

tee sounds like you had a lovely evening out. Wonderful. And a card and a prezzie too Lucky lady.

I've already bought K's non-christening dress - simple white cotton affair. Not one of the netted long things. I can't buy another dress for myself as I don't know what size I'll be by then. I guess I'll have to wait until nearer the time.

My DH is still in bed. He's told me he's doing nothing for mother's day (I'm not his mother although you could be forgiven for mistaking for his mother sometimes). He's still in bed btw although he did get up and feed K at 7am. All tiring stuff. floria what is this 5 star treatment you speak of?

I'm off to visit my mum briefly this morning when I pick up DS#2. Haven't made a fuss as she's not really that kind of person. DS#1 and DD#1 are coming for 12 so I've to call at the supermarket to pick up items to make a nice lunch. DS#1 was telling me he was trying to get his g/f to come too but I did point out that I'm not actually her mum Bless him for the thought though.

mrsb the tummy pains were obviously cramps trying to expel whatever was in there.

How sad that Jade Goody died on Mother's Day

Triggles · 22/03/2009 09:43

DH worked all night, so he's napping right now. Although he did help DS to give me a card and present this morning. He tried to stay awake for a bit, but I told him to go ahead and get some sleep. We're going to be popping over to visit MIL this afternoon, and then relax together this evening, so he NEEDS some sleep now. Or he'll be snoring through our evening!

Hope everyone has a nice day.

johnworf · 22/03/2009 10:01

tee I meant to say that although my lenses aren't anywhere near as strong as yours, it's because they're varifocals. I looked on the receipt and they're £45 each. So x that by 4 and that's where most of the cash went. I know it's basically 2 lenses squashed together but why does that cost so much more than a normal single lens (certainly more than twice the price for sure).

triggles hope you have a nice day too. Let him sleep, he deserves it You've at least the prospect of an enjoyable evening AND you got a card and a present

Tee2072 · 22/03/2009 10:09

Yeah JW I'm dreading the day they tell me I finally need varifocals. My last lenses were about £250. I can't imagine how much they will be when I have to go that route! And that day is coming. At the moment I can only read without my glasses if the book is right at my nose. I used to be able to read without my glasses at arms length! Just don't ask me to see anything across the room .

I keep thinking its hell getting old! And then my baby kicks me and all is right in the world!!

Triggles · 22/03/2009 10:40

Oh I haven't gotten new glasses in a couple years, these glasses work well. But oh my, I dread thinking of buying new ones! Ouch!

Just a question, but can you get regular soft contact lenses anymore?? I went in two years ago, and asked about it - all they seem to have anymore are those stupid disposable ones so that they can keep charging you an ongoing fee for new ones. Whatever happened to buying a pair, taking care of them and cleaning them daily, and not having to keep going through new ones?? I'd love to go back to contact lenses, but I'm not paying a monthly fee to do it!

Tee2072 · 22/03/2009 10:51

triggles I don't think they do those any more. They aren't very good for you eyes.

I am not allowed contacts any more due to some eye trouble, but I do remember that disposables aren't actually any more expensive than the other kind over the life of the other kind.
