Hello everyone - yet another thread. I'm expecting a call anyday soon from ITV - as I imagine we'll be prime candidates for taking over the Loose Women slot when they need a break

So, for anyone interested in joining in with us - just jump in and say Hi - we don't bite - unless you're disguised as a chocolate sponge cake

Ladies..................Take it away

mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 12:16

I have a heart murmer myself heron as has my sister - one of the more benign results of our catching a very bad dose of measles in childhood - never affected either of us in any way. You quite often get asked by doctors whether you have one and I just lie and say no now.

jw good to hear you are trying not to dwell, after all no reason to at the moment. Re the Xenical - when I was researching it it read on several user forums peope saying that they had thought it was simply a matter of not taking a tablet then being able to have a breakout but that it was not so and it takes a few days to go completely out of your system. That's all I know. I guess it would warn you on the packet?

I have never owned a caguole in me life. I am the sort of person who has gone up those hills/mountain things in the Lake District in flip flops and miniskirt. Yes, one of them . Although I do have a pair of walking boots now.

johnworf · 20/03/2009 12:21

haha@mrsb ! mini skirt and flip flops. Excellent. Not sure they sell them in Millets though.

heron22 K is also under the cardiologist for her PDA. We're there in 2 weeks to see the surgeon to discuss her op to close the duct. Hope your appointment goes well though

I'm not too worried mrsb re the xenical. I won't be having anything too adventurous. I must say it's a big incentive when your clothes are baggy to keep going However, the lovely Monsoon dress I bought for K's non-christening will not fit me by May now. No way. It's a 16 and will be far too big. I'll have to wait until nearer the time and see what size I am then. Shame really as I loved that dress. Bah!

mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 12:41

can you not take it back and exchange it for a 14 jw

I have been weighing it all up this week and have decided that a) I am going to give up weekend glasses of the wine (boo hoo ) and b) I might as well give the Xenical a go. I am hoping that this belt and braces approach might have some effect, as living on wayyyy less than 1500 calories a day for the past month has had no effect at all.

I must be a wonder of medical science

BonzoDoodah · 20/03/2009 12:47

jj love that skirt and wonderful being a 12! I was about 27 last time I was that small

heron22 welcome and don't worry about the heart murmer too much. My DD was diagnosed as one - but 20 seconds on the ECG jobbie and htey said it was an innocent one. My boss's wife has one (non-innocent) and they only found out duringheart monitoring during hte birth of her second child. So it had never bothered her. Hope it's good news at the tests.

hedgepig the trouble is I never did dilate during my last preg. I stayed in "latent first phase" for 6 days. Aparently the contractions were trying to get DD's head engaged but couldn't manage it. So not brill news. Ah well. Not the end of the world [stoic snivel].

peachyfox · 20/03/2009 12:56

Morning everyone! I managed to get myself back from my work trip after the baby-head fiasco. Everyone was lovely to me even though I had delayed the meeting by two hours. Being pregnant is magic! Note to self: I must not use the baby as a get-out-jail-free card (at least not all the time).

Sorry I haven't been able to catch up with all your posts, so I'll just say JW the worst possible scenario is always terrible but very rare - I agree your doc would have whisked you off straight away if he thought it more than the remotest of remote possibilities. Hope you get to the bottom of it quick and can set your mind at rest.

Welcomeheron22!

We're packing to leave the country tomorrow and DP has finally galvanized into action. It's quite a sight!

BonzoDoodah · 20/03/2009 13:39

wow peachy - I wouldn't be flyingoff on a buisiness trip days before I emigrated! How cool are you? Good luck for the move!

mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 13:44

hope you're going to keep visiting us peachyfox?

johnworf · 20/03/2009 13:53

mrsb well I hope I've been a useful guinnea pig for your decision I've not had any of the nasty accidents so far and obviously, it's working for me. Btw I don't take the tablet with my brekky as it's weetabix and skimmed milk and bugger all fat anyway so just wasting it. Doc has given me another box anyway (and don't forget, they're free until D is 1) and my BMI is now 28. Woot de dooo!!! I'm officially overweight rather than obese I want a badge with that on it.

peachy thanks for your kind words and reasurrances. On reflection, he'd have had me doing a blood test on the day if he was that worried so yep, thanks Good luck with the move. You're a brave lady for doing that whilst preggie.

peachyfox · 20/03/2009 14:11

MrsB Oh yes! I have to share the minutiae of my pregnancy with people who really know what I mean! Will probably log on during the birth

mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 14:13

you have jw in that a) it has clearly worked for you, b) you have managed to stick to it c) you have had no Unfortunate Incidents

I had already had it in my sights as you might remember with my witering on about Alli - of course I wittered and dithered while you went and got the bloody stuff - and then I wonder why I am still a heffalump.

just hope I can emulate your success...

johnworf · 20/03/2009 14:32

lol mrsb Just go for it girl. Why go for Alli anyway when it's half the strength of Xenical and you have to pay for it?! Get the stuff free of your doc.

I think I'm just used to the stuff I eat now rather than looking at it as 'diet food'. It's mostly chicken, fish, veggies (stir fry is excellent and very versatile), fruit, low fat yog and skimmed milk. Not really a hardship.

Just been looking at Google Street amidst all the hoohah. Does include Manchester but we're north of there and so we're not yet on it. I think it's fab. Not sure of all this invasion of privacy nonsense. What you see on there is probably months old. It'd very useful for finding out where places are, viewing houses and neighbourhoods or even seeing what shop looks like from the outside. I think it's great.

DD#1 got an iphone y'day and I'm very I keep saying to DH 'we really need one you know and apparently we don't. I know we don't I just like gadgets. I can't justify the £43 a month payment for one either so that's that.

mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 15:28

I didn't realise Xenical was out here yet jw until you got it!

Ah yes we are waiting for the new Google phone coming in June - tres fancy - can't remember what it is called. We love gadgets too - and of course as OH is well up on all such things I can't get a new phone until he does as I can't be having him all smug with the one that has the most bells and whistles. So I have to get the same one as him and never satisfy my inner girly craving for a sparkly phone that does nowt but look good

ermintrude13 · 20/03/2009 15:32

Hello All, just got back from seeing 'Duplicity' with DH, taking his second day off in as many weeks. Good clean fun with Clive Owen, who only took his shirt of about twice .

JW How lovely to be going down in clothes sizes and BMI, must be v satisfying. Good luck to you mrsb if you follow the same route.

JJ Hurrah, the plague has lifted from your house. Open the windows!

Heron hope the appt goes well for your LO - sounds like it's a very common issue.

peachy even the prospect of sorting through the huge pile of baby clothes I've got so that I can begin the Washing and Ironing and Putting In Drawers process makes me feel knackered. The idea of packing to leave a country makes me want to curl up and hide in a wardrobe. Hope you've got enough boxes!

Tee2072 · 20/03/2009 15:35

Okay, am I missing something? ermintrude is the second person (not on this thread) I've seen mentioning ironing baby clothes.

Is there something harmful in wrinkles for babies? Because, I gotta say, I avoid ironing like the plague. Please tell me I don't have to do that!!!

ermintrude13 · 20/03/2009 15:43

Ha ha Tee. Some people are ironing people; some aren't. Despite being a slob in many respects, I can't put a cotton item back into a drawer until it's nicely ironed and folded. I know it's bad, I blame my mother. Although... my sisters don't iron - but then again, they deliberately buy skinny-fit clothes so that they stretch all the creases out of them when they put them on after washing . But to my knowledge no babies have been harmed by a lack of ironing.

It only takes a minute with the teeny tiny clothes though

mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 15:50

ironing? baby clothes? harrummph I say to that. I don't iron my own clothes so I am sure as heck not going to start ironing babygros...

If anything of mine needed ironing I either wouldn't wear it or I would get OH to do it. I will slave away all day over a hot stove but you won't find me ironing, ever.

peachyfox · 20/03/2009 16:02

I haven't ironed anything for about 12 years - Baby Hugo (tough on a girl I know...) will have a selection of baby-grows that go on hot wash! Plus one outfit for visitors, just to keep up appearances...

jeanjeannie · 20/03/2009 16:11

Afternoon all - glorious day, the sun is beating down Thought I'd have a change and go shopping in a more up-market location (Amersham) and A*SE.....there's now a HUGE scratch all the way down the car where a NUTTER couldn't get into a parent and child parking space Teach me to go where uber posh people can't drive

heron hope all goes well today

peachy you're clearly a loon!! Well, what can I say? Have fun emmigrating! Let us know you've arrived and put the kettle on - oh and you must keep telling us about your bump because we want to be open-mouthed in awe of German effeciency

mrsB I never lose much weight on a diet - it's got to be the hard graft of exercise for me I've been living off no more than 1,500 cals for months now - but if I'd got my big bum into gear and gone running then I could have had an extraa 500 cals and lost weight

ermintrude Ironing is the devil's work! Both DDs are a riot of creases. I'm just thrilled DP doesn't have a proper job; never see a builder in a suit!

jw Oh, losing weight is such a cool excuse to go shopping - for a whole new you! I must have a look at Google street thingy - don't think High Wycombe will be on there yet!

Righty ho - Verity is wailing - and I'm getting nasty stomach cramps....fingers crossed it's not the D&V bug come to mither me

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 20/03/2009 16:39

oh Heanven forfend jj !! Hope its not come for you now!

Oooh yes, good point - will be interesting to hear about the vagaries (or total lack thereof) of the German maternity system...

BonzoDoodah · 20/03/2009 16:39

Tee I think ironing is the devil's work but I do iron the sprog stuff because I don't use fabric conditioner. When I used it I came out in disgusting scaly skin that itched. Stopped using conditioner and it went away. So I just can't use it on the baby stuff in case she has the same reaction. And without conditioner it's a bit rough so I iron. But baby stuff is teenytiny and a vest takes one swipe and a top takes three quick ones. I don't iron for looks - just to soften - so it's mega quick. I can pretent I have some housework morals whereas I am, in reality, a complete slut.

Tee2072 · 20/03/2009 17:49

The issue isn't so much the ironing, although I hate it, its the putting up the board, digging out the iron (which lives under the kitchen sink), doing the ironing and then putting it all away!

DH actually does his own ironing for work, although I've told him I might be willing to do it when I'm on maternity leave!

JJ sending a prayer to the goddess of non-illness that you are not coming down with it!

johnworf · 20/03/2009 17:50

I don't iron anything. Straight out of the dryer, folded and put away. I used to iron socks, undies, hankies, you name it. Life is way too short.

JJ don't JML or someone similar do some sort of rub or shampoo that covers up car scratches? I might have dreamt it so not sure.

mrsb very envious of new google phone. I'm going to work on DH tonight for an iphone (again).

jeanjeannie · 20/03/2009 18:28

Never really got 'gadgets' Although I am hankering after Photoshop to make my pics more super-doopa.

jw I LOVE JML stuff - such cheese, yet so useful. I'm sure the quality of my life would be severly impared without my black rubber brush One sweep over the furniture and cat hairs just whip into a managable ball.

Gawd, my kidneys feel as though someone stamped on them DP said that's what the bug felt like for him....NO, NO, I refuse to be flawed by vomit. Hello, I've found myself in emintrude territory.....illness?! Pah, stuff and nonsense...Kidneys? who needs them? Cut 'em out and be done with 'em.....

OP posts:
duchesse · 20/03/2009 18:38

jw- my iphone package is £30 a month, which I write off against tax as a legitimate need to keep connected for work and check that documents have arrived even when I'm not at home... for that I get 75 minutes and 125 texts and unlimited internet usage for that, but you do have to pay £96 for the phone on that tariff.

johnworf · 20/03/2009 18:41

Oh no! Fingers crossed you aren't next in line for the dreaded lurgy Cranberry is good for kidneys but so is lots of water.

I've got one of those rubber brushes btw. One side a brush then flip it over et voila, it scrapes as well Just wondering if you could knit a ball of cat hair into a jumper

Right then, JML it is. Here's your cream to sort your car out.

I've settled on a chicken kebab. Real chicken that is, with salad on a pitta bread. No meat from the spinny round thing that full of.....hmm, well not sure what it's full of but it doesn't look healthy. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it all.

Ok, DH is back so best start working my magic on him for a phone. Wish me luck
