Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

ermintrude13 · 03/03/2009 18:44

extremelychocolatey I've heard similar experiences on other threads some of which have progressed into pregnancy. Maybe there's a thread which can be more specific and helpful?

JJ you slapper, trying it on with Michael Palin . I once got so pissed at the theatre christmas party that i was dancing with the hunky production manager and told him he was being 'a bit tame with his hands'. 'that's cos I'm holding you up, love' he explained kindly. . My now-DH had to drag me out of there so I could throw up in a wastepaper basket.

Tee great that you got another look in to the babe and that your appt went well.

We say 'It' a lot too, it's quicker than him-her every time It's mentioned. DC ask 'how's Blob?' or sometimes it's Bump, Bumpage or Bumpeth. Haven't settled on a name yet

Tee2072 · 03/03/2009 19:34

Yeah we don't have a name. DH doesn't like 'cute' names. So we just call it The Baby!

jeanjeannie · 03/03/2009 20:06

Oooo, tee your DH doesn't like cute names....you could test-drive him with my mum's name.....Ethel....there's nowt cute about that!!

ermintrude ah,, sick in wastepaper bins...happy days I remember my former DH literally picking me up out of a party and throwing me over his shoulder...........while I promptly threw up over his back

Hahaha, probably a good job I didn't know Mr Palin was somewhat liberal with his affections...I may have set myself a seduction task!

extremelychocolately sorry to hear of your worry. The earliest scan I've ever had was at 8.5 weeks and it was detected then, although they did say that it was still early - so I'm no help I'm afraid. I suppose it depends on how early you are along. Good luck - hope it all turns out ok.

jw Costco news please. Are you wallowing in one of their super-doopa paddling pools! Please tell me you avoided the lemon drizzle cake!

OP posts:
johnworf · 03/03/2009 21:12

Evening all. Didn't get to go to Costco I'm afraid JJ. K wanted a sleep so thought it best to just let her go in her cot. I stayed home with the decorators. They've finished the living room now (thank god!). DH stood back and admired the wallpaper that he fought so hard to not let me buy Eating his words now. Had to make a few purchases from M&S as they've got some 3 for 2 offers on. Got 6 cushions down from £57 to £31 including delivery so very pleased with myself

All of my 4 were named affectionately 'lump'. K was the only one I knew what sex I was having. Back in the old days you were lucky if you got a scan pic.

JJ I think I need to pour some gin down your neck and get all the juicy gossip on Mr Palin

Where is mrsb tonight? Hope she's not remortgaging to buy all that Toby Tiger stuff

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 03/03/2009 22:26

Thanks for your replies. Will try to see if there is a more specific thread.

mrsboogie · 03/03/2009 22:46

evenin all

still here jw been up and down the stairs half the night with a little man who keeps waking up and refusing to go back to sleep. The routine is completely shot to shit.

Didn't buy the stripey trousers (yet. ahem) but did get some nice stuff from the new stock at Yellow Lolly.

well done on the 6lbs jw I have eaten nothing but ginger biscuits myself for the last three days as feeling v sicky in the tummy still.

Also keep meaning to say jj I read the other day that V has three words - that's fab - clever girl!

tee good news on all being well - won't be long now - ponce you get to the six months mark it goes quicker - until the last couple of weeks.

where's neddie got to?

johnworf · 04/03/2009 09:17

mrsb love your typo of 'ponce'. Tee hee. Doesn't take much does it? Sorry to hear the D is giving you the run around And here's me thinking he'd finally got the hang of sleeping for mummy and daddy.

Oh I like Yellow Lolly stuff too. I'm on their mailing list (one of many!) for when new stuff comes in and when the sales start - more importantly! I have an embargo on buying at the mo as I've two drawers of summer things I've bought for her already. slaps own wrists But if there's a bargain to be had, I have no self restraint

JJ must have missed you saying the Verity having 3 words. Blimey. She'll be borrowing your make up in a few months. She's growing up fast!

Just putting the finishing touches to the living room i.e. putting pics up, and I must say that I'm very pleased with it.

See that they've spared Jack Tweed prison (again) so that he can spend time with Jade in her final days/weeks. I can see him milking this for all it's worth after she's died...and hopefully crawling back to the gutter once the sideshow is over.

Btw can't get hold of a copy of this weeks OK! for love nor money. Seems that dying as well as sex does indeed sell.

Jennifer Aniston what are you doing love? £40k on a haircut that looks like nothing special. More money than sense.

ermintrude13 · 04/03/2009 09:31

Every time anyone here mentions a good babyclothes website I go lalala and block my ears. Mantra: I've got everything I need. I've got everything I need. Repeat ad infinitum. When the babe actually arrives and signals its pink or blueness I guess it will be harder to resist cute stripey trousers...

JW I laughed at 'ponce' too.

mrsB a diet of ginger biscuits! Like that chap on supersize superskinny or whatever it's called which I saw for the first time last night. What is the use of getting a skinny man who lives on choc and caffeine to eat the massive fatty portions of a huge man and make the huge man eat 2 bars choc for lunch? Why can't they feed the pair of them a good healthy diet for a week and see what happens? Don't get the justification for that programme. AND I saw the Hester Blumenthal crazy Victoria feast but only because Charlie Brooker told me to in the Guardian. But I'm so intolerant of the huge intrusive ad breaks which mean the progs repeat themselves so audiences 'catch up' - no wonder I only listen to Radio 4 and watch QI and MTW on Dave.

Grumpy old woman? Moi?

Tee2072 · 04/03/2009 09:53

Morning all.

JJ I also missed that Verity has 3 words! Tell her I said 'you go girl!'

DH doesn't like cute names. And doesn't like old fashion names. I think we'll be calling the kid 'Baby Fraser' its whole life.

mrsboogie · 04/03/2009 10:54

mornin' all

silly me and my typos..

Mr D down for his morning nap - 10am regular as clockwork - wish his night time sleeping was as good!

I do feel sorry for poor old Heston - I think he's fab. Missed his programme last night - didn't really watch any telly.

ermintrude those baby websites are sooo tempting - especially if you have a little boy - if you go in to a normal shop its always row upon row of girl's clothes with a few pale blue things stuck in one corner for boys. On these websites however there is as much for boys as girls and not much of the pink frilly stuff anyway. And the colours are fab.

Right, must get on - fresh air today as yesterday was so horrid none was had.

Neddie · 04/03/2009 11:02

Hi
I am here now. I have had a crappy week. I have too much to do to be pregnant. One I could cope with, but 2 at once and five foals due is too much. Luckily my new girl is working out fine (bankrupting me nevertheless). I haven't slept for weeks apart from the odd couple of hours. DP home this weekend after a 3 week absence (hurrah). We are picking up the ring on Saturday all being well, so at least that's a positive. I am looking at a couple of houses at the weekend so that maybe I could take in a lodger or something to keep me company- I think I can't sleep due to loneliness in this big house and it's a waste of money renting a property.
I am going to have to get a new car as my Discovery is a 2 door and not child friendly. I need some kind of 4 x 4 so maybe I'll keep that old banger and buy a clean economical car for child transportation.

MUM41plus5 · 04/03/2009 11:10

Morning

mrsb soz to hear not a good night, our little fella was up at 11:00pm cheeks were on fire, normal temperature every where else but there seems to be a tooth breaking through but its taking forever, a nice cuddle and half a spoon of calprofen and he was a happy sleepy man again
Oh dear, now you've made me curious, I do not do internet shopping assuming that its no different to high street shopping but now you mention... tempting if you have a little boy... well I have 2 and its begining to sound very tempting

jw very at the thought of your lovely new lounge with the feature wallpaper to die for

jj 3 words? I missed that too, hehe some things are just so sweet what are they?

So glad I wasn't the only one with silly names for my bump

MUM41plus5 · 04/03/2009 11:14

Hello Neddie Oh no, sounds like a bit of a rough time at the moment, sounds like you have a lovely memorable weekend to look forward too though

mrsboogie · 04/03/2009 11:55

neddie thought you might be having a hard time of it since you hadn't been on. Sounds a bit of a mare (if you'll pardon the pun
Is there no possibility of you moving to him or vice versa?

sorry to lead you into temptation mum41 but there is a world of a difference at least with boys - if you go into Mothercare for example you will see acres of pink frou frou for girls and squashed in a corner some blue jeans and sweatshirts for boys and babygros in varying shades of blue. I have just ordered this and this

jeanjeannie · 04/03/2009 11:55

Morning. All go here again - had visitors (nice ones) so been on hostess duties.

jw am of your new, lovely living room. I think we're about 5 yrs away from finishing touches!

neddie wow - that's a heavy work load and SO much going on; pregnancy, foals, new houses, cars Take it easy! Fab news that DP is coming over though - that'll be lovley

ermintrude I also watched Heston last night - the guy is very creatove. he reminds me of my time at art college - I figure he'd have done well somewhere like that. I also spend far too long listening to Radio 4. Can't you write a play that's actally 'good' ermintrude or maybe a comedy that's actually funny - anything has to be better than Count Arthur Strong...

mrsB sorry the night sleeping has gone to pot. If it's any consolation, Verity was up with us till 10pm last night - which is very unusual....and very annoying. Oh and her words are Tata (which is what we call DP - Eastern Europe version of Dad) Cat, which she says frantically when Bob walks in, Book, and now Mama and points to me - swwweeet. However - hasn't crawled since that episode of chasing the cat, hates rolling over and loathes being on her front! A genius couch potato in the making..

OP posts:
MUM41plus5 · 04/03/2009 13:23

mrsb you have corrupted me I just love the little body suits with the kiddie inspired scribbles on...uummmmm 6 to 12 months I'm thinking would be just right for spring, early summer

jj Verity up too, must have been something in the air last night mind you it was blowing a gale last night combined with driving rain, which hung around for the school run this morning so not much fun, looking better this afternoon though so hoping it will hold out for the afternoon school run

ermintrude13 · 04/03/2009 13:36

mrsb those clothes are gorgeous. You're so right about the boys v girls clothes. Trouble is, by the time they get just beyond toddlerhood there's a bit problem getting nice girls' clothes - Asda's range usually looks like it's been designed for pole dancing 7 yr olds. H&M is pretty good for that stage though.

neddie sounds like you need a good rest and some help - hope both are forthcoming, somehow, soon.

JJ the Beeb are supposedly always looking for good plays but you have to know a producer to have a chance. I've a couple of friends who write for them sometimes, but the afternoon play is often of dodgy quality isn't it? I like book of the week. I remember oooh a quarter of a century ago - yikes - last lesson on a Friday in 5th form (Yr 11 in new money) the teacher would ask us what we wanted to do and we'd all ask for a story . Nothing so relaxing, I shall start getting them on CDs soon like my mum

jeanjeannie · 04/03/2009 13:58

hahah ermintrude my mate in Dubai rang only this morning to tell me how she was turning into her mother and had recieved a load of CDs of classic radio progs and she was listening to them in her car in the searing desert heat!

Well, I'm not very impressed with most producer's range of talented 'mates' Seems to me everything is a Jarvis and Ayres production - which always makes us laugh..."is that a Jarvis production? Ah, yes, you can tell by the quality. And was it starring Martin Jarvis? I do believe so!" Oh, the sad conversations I have with DP!

PMSL@pole dancing Asda kids!

mum41 t'was blowing a gale here last night and today is glorious - oh, if only we had a garden and not a building site!

OP posts:
MUM41plus5 · 04/03/2009 14:36

Hehe... pole dancing Asda kids, I must confess to underwear shopping for daywear use at Asda although I'm just a middle of the road Next shopper when it comes to most other items of clothing for all the family, think the out of town retail parks just make it so handy when I have 2 babies and a 5 year old in tow just have to sort the pretty wear from the chavy gear and I'm ok (thats with the pretty not the chavy )

Tee2072 · 04/03/2009 15:27

Afternoon all.

Someone remind me, in 10 years, if I'm still on MN, and if I still work for the same company, to quit just before our 20th Anniversary.

Our 10th Anniversary celebration is tomorrow and I may have to kill someone before then. Formal, sit down dinner for 50+ people, including some major NI VIPs. Security alone is a nightmare.

In other news, have told DH that it is time to get off our duffs and get some baby clothes, so I'm off to the shops this weekend! Of course, I don't know if its a boy or a girl, so not sure what I'm gonna buy!

johnworf · 04/03/2009 15:31

mrsb yes the tiny minymo stuff is lovely. I've just managed to negotiate a pair of dungarees and a pinafore of theirs down to £3 each on Ebay! Brand new as well. They had tiny marks on them and I'm a bit of a terrier to haggling....but, if you don't ask etc. K's got quite a few bits of the minymo stuff but I wouldn't pay full price for any of it. A lot of her summer items are from last year that I've bought in the sale and I got some nice Kammakarlo, Okker Gokker, Molo, Mini a Ture and some Ej Sikke Lej short summer rompers.

The ASDA clothing range is rank. It falls apart after two washes and anyone that sells bras for 7 year olds is just wrong, wrong, wrong. Wasn't there a hoo ha a couple of months ago that they were selling knickers for 7-8 year olds with the slogan on the front 'eat me'? No thanks.

Busy on the home front today with this and that. Mainly that.

Writing a book of my life is on my top 10 things to do before I die list. Only to be read 50 years after my death so that my children will be far too old to be shocked

MUM41plus5 · 04/03/2009 15:50

jw No no no I buy MY underwear not DD's and I'm sure it would please DH but no I don't get any with those types of slogans any slogans in fact and I find pretty much wherever I buy underwear, especially underwired bras it falls apart after a few washes anyway, probably because hand wash to me means the hand wash cycle on the washing machine not good I know
Please don't do the book only to be read 50 years after your death as I'm pretty sure I won't be around then either to read it ;)

jj just think of the summer and the lovely garden you will be able to enjoy

mrsboogie · 04/03/2009 15:59

ugh jw that is yuk, (the knickers) I hate all that grown up stuff for little girls -horrible - they'll be grown up for long enough. Sooo tacky.

I found the tiny minymo stuff quite cheap- its a lot cheaper than some of those other brands. Although Mr D has four or five suits form Ej Sikke lej and Lille barn with matching socks and we love them - they are continuously washed and worn and all the fluffy blue sweatshirts etc that are bought for him are relegated to the bottom of a drawer never to be used.

Have to confess I haven't listened to r4 since the little man was born and I have only just managed to finish my first book in 6 months!

Am a bit horrified with myself following today's shopping trip. I had got into the habit of drinking those instant cappuccino sachets from Nescafe. I can't drink proper coffee on an empty stomach so quite often drink them at work for convenience. Ridiculously expensive and quite nasty though they are - bearing little or no resemblance to real coffee. Anyway took a look at the nutritional info on the pack and one mangy sachet provides something like 15% of an adults daily allowance of sugar and around the same of fat. For powdered milk and coffee! Explains a lot!

ermintrude13 · 04/03/2009 16:15

Primark sells padded bras that start at age 7. Probably made by someone of that age too. I swear I was only there with DD who had £3 remaining from her Christmas money to spend and came away with black crop top (NOT padded) and shorts each emblazoned with a diamante skull and crossbones . She says she's a goth... Asda baby range is unremarkable but OK and they're not bad for things like sports trousers for boys, but I find Sainsbury's is pretty good for quality and price - plus it's so easy to stick things into the trolley. I used to buy only Gap, Boden or Pumpkin Patch for DD, but that was when we were double income in London - amazing how I've slipped into supermarket brands so effortlessly. .

JW I can't even say half of the brands you mentioned - are they all Scandinavian? And still in business? Nice to know where to go for more stylish stuff.

Tee will you get to eat a nice posh dinner tomorrow or will you have to stress about arrangements the whole evening?

JJ ah yes, M Jarvis does rather have a monopoly on R4 doesn't he? But I quite like some of Count Arthur Strong, although it's a bit of a one-joke pony. I liked him talking about an 'encroute bathroom'. Ed Reardon's Week, that's what I like. And the News Quiz. But sometimes I find myself listening to You and Yours or Moneybox Live for a good ten minutes before I realise what I'm doing.

jeanjeannie · 04/03/2009 16:58

ermintrude there's nowt wrong with a good bit of You and Yours! It's taken me years to realise that Peter White is blind - well, tis radio and you tend not to notice these things I too have slipped into supermarche brands. I'm also not adverse to Ethel Austin and a spot of H&M although I'm careful to weed out the Spearmint Rhino and Hooters outfits

tee I'd collapse under the strain! You're doing a stirling job old gal Yes, will you being getting some nice grub at the 'do'?

mrsB woah - that's a lot of sugar - I'm off to the cupboard to check out the contents of the el cheapo chocolate DP bought from Costco...eek! And you've read a book since baby D - blimey, I've not even picked up one since Iris popped out!

jw you disappoint me - I thought we'd all be going to the book launch party Can't see the point of waiting till you're dead - it'll be soooo much fun to see the faces of all the people you p*ss off in it. I mean, what an opportunity to see what your SIL thinks once you put into print what a daft bat she is In my autobiography, this chapter is going to be called..."Snot, Shit and Out of Shape"
