Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

Morning all. Bad night...Ggrrrr

jw OH wow! That's a fab loss Well done you and well done bum for being leak free.

Think it'll be soft play this morning....I have to get out of the house!

Mornin all. 6lb JW wow, that's incentive to keep going and no mistake - well done!

What a lot of talk about gussets there has been since I last looked. I got some Mothercare p-js - blue vest top with drop straps for feeding, floral cotton trousers and a a little cardi-type thing. Just in case I have visitors shortly after the birth, or if I have to go into hospital.

On my birth plan I shall write that I do not want JW's or JJ's placenta, or ladymac's double peak contractions. They can sort that out for me, can't they?

I met Kevin Whately years ago when he was playing the lead in The Crucible in Leicester and I worked in theatre. Very pleasant chap, but there were rumours he was a bit of a shagger. Not as bad as Michael Palin, mind.

jeanjeannie · 03/03/2009 08:46

Oh yes, clothes news: What about Principles eh!
Apparently it was the store they decided not to take on in the management buyout yesterday. Looks like there may be some more too Gosh - what a long list of possible casualties too...all rescued by this buyout; Coast, Oasis (my mates's dad started both of those!) Karen Millen, French Connection....list was huge!

Blimey, I used to work for the fashion trade press back in the last recession - I bet they're having a field day at the moment.

OP posts:
johnworf · 03/03/2009 09:26

Michael Palin is a shagger? Is he really? I vaguely knew Kevin Whately was. Wasn't he doing Amanda Burton a few years ago? I wouldn't mind but his wife is v attractive and he's very rough around the edges.

Thank you for kind words of encouragement re weight.

Is Principles going under? Have the odd item from there but not a shop I go in much.

I have to get out too JJ so we're taking K out with us to Costco. It's peeing down here and I have to avoid the pastries Still, a trip out is not to be sniffed at

ermintrude blooming marvellous has up to 75% off sale online if you're interested.

Tee2072 · 03/03/2009 09:34

I am very upset about Principles. I can't often afford their things, but I do adore picking up things at their sales.

Karen Millen is my 'skinny dream' store. I always swore when I was down that last stone I would treat myself to a dress from there. Maybe I still can...in about a year!

hedgepig · 03/03/2009 09:37

morning
you girls are leading me into bad ways I hadn't heard of Toby Tiger until 5 mins ago and now I am going ga ga over those stripy trousers!

reasonable night O woke at 11:30, 2.00 and the 6:30 not too bad.

Has principles shut ? they seem so sophisticated when they came out in the 80's but haven't been in there in years.

ermintrude13 · 03/03/2009 11:17

Ta for Blooming Marvellous tip JW, will check it out.

My one and only long dress is from Karen Millen - circa 12 years ago. Size 12 electric blue halterneck in a sort of damask fabric with a slit from floor to thigh. I love it. It used to fit perfectly but I did just manage to squeeze into it 18 months ago for a friends' posh 40th and people kept falling into my cleavage. I think there may have been a small unintentional 'back cleavage' too but I kept my pashmina on...

I'm afraid Palin is well known for it, has been for years. He does travel a lot I suppose - a girl in every train station maybe?

johnworf · 03/03/2009 11:34

ermintrude my, my. Would never have had him down as a philanderer but hey, he's a bloke isn't he? Now you mention it, I suppose his boyish charm is quite sweet. He's a bit old for me though. If this is a not so well kept secret then surely the wife must know? Why do they stay with them ?? Is it just for the money?

Back cleavage eh? lol. I find that a pashmina hides many a sin. During my wedding to currently Mr Worf, I didn't take mine off until I got home

MUM41plus5 · 03/03/2009 11:57

Hello Hello

How are we all?... have tried to catch up on posts but been a while so just know I've forgotten most already

jj sorry to hear about your gran, does sound like she had a nice long, loved life.

Look at you in that pic well done

jw 6lbs excellent!!

Nice to know I'm not the only one trying to shift the excess weight, still got around half a stone I would like to lose to get back in my 12's and it is proving the hardest, especially every other week when DH has a long weekend, we always end up out for dinner somewhere, this weekend Sunday lunch in the country so back to the healthy eating again today

As for cars, we had to go the other way, had a lovely Lexus RX400, just a dream to drive and stupidly thought we could manage once DT's were born, how wrong were we, we not only needed more seating space but also storage space what with everything we take out with us, only thing big enough was a 7 seater Chrysler grand voyager so feel a bit like I'm driving a bus now DD3 loves it though, it has a dvd player so tinkerbell and pepper pig keep her amused at least

johnworf · 03/03/2009 13:01

Blimey mum41 you are very posh compared to us peasants on here. Swapping your lexus for a grand voyager? Wow. I do in fact drive a bus. No, sorry, it's an ex ice cream van is Dobby. No style nor finesse which is probably very much like it's owners.

I must remember to curtsy in your presence in future

See Jack 'the thug' Tweed has been found guilty. Wonder where that leaves his dying wife?

hedgepig · 03/03/2009 13:16

just been to a nice baby/toddler group where people actually spoke to me . I do feel rather daft at these things taking a baby who doesn't move or play with toys yet.

Just heard about Jack Tweedy on the radio what a f*wit!

liahgen · 03/03/2009 13:25

gosh this thread moves quickly doesn't it.

To who it was that asked, No I haven't had any of my children at home, due to the Oc last 3 times, and ignorance the first 2, (was 14 yrs ago the first 2)

they are dd 14
ds 11
ds 5
dd almost 4
dd almost 2

As a Doula, we tend to go with the Wish list as opposed to The birth plan, it just makes the language used a bit more positive, and gives you more scope for changing without feeling you have failed which is surprisingly common.

With our 5 I drive a clapped out old Nissan Serena, just bought a Seat toleda for my work and if we have only 1 or 2 dc's with us. My friend has the voyager, bloody great thing it is. )she says, already mentally downgrading to ex mini bus when #6 comes along)

Jack Tweed is just as you say a common thug, i suppose if he gives her some happiness in her final days then who are we to judge, but i'm sure he'll go back to the gutter when he's made a few quid in books about living with Jade in a few years. Shame she has to see al this though, i'm sure the stress can't be good for her.

jeanjeannie · 03/03/2009 13:58

Afternoon all. Michael Palin does indeed have a wandering eye ...*remembers drunk party when she ripped open his denim shirt and told him she thought he was gorgeous... A very long story and i did go home alone!

Anyway - moving on. hedgepig I used to feel like that about playgroup - especially when Iris took so long to walk - I used to see people looking at me thinking "why doesn't she wait till she can walk!"

Oh, before I foget hedgepigcross thread hijack - I was going to answer your post on DIY board but keep getting waylaid - but from my experience I love this house much, much more now we've extended and remodelled. I'll never truely love it as we're in crappy catchment and that'll always upset me - BUT if you love where you are - that's already a lot of boxes that you'll have to tick off if you move. Plus, and it's a big plus - I may live with a builder, but it's a cheaper way of getting what you want, especially in this financial climate. Get to grips with that 'vision' girl - I thought that was actually very cool advice. That's what we did and I don't even remember the nasty little 30s semi I moved into, it's not the same anymore OK all - as you were!

mum41 I was wondering where you got to! Wow - do you have a HGV license to drive that beast of car?! My DP used to have a flash Alfa when he met me - ah....I soon beat that out of him! Just our old Berlingo (blacked out back windows dontchya know!) and his white van for work! Oh and the motorbike - mustn't forget that

I think Blooming Marvellous was rescued the other week - by the people who own Ethel Austin I believe. That's good news. These Icelandic folk have a lot to answer for.

And yes, Jack Tweed is a T*at!

ladymac · 03/03/2009 13:59

johnworf well done on the weight loss. Do you feel any different? I mean like your trousers feeling looser? I love your sausage roll idea for those pyjama bottoms. You'd have to fashion some kind of net liner for them, like men's swimming shorts have inside them, otherwise the sausage rolls would slip down and make your knees look lumpy

mrsb isn't jw naughty telling you about ASOS doing baby clothes? I love those stripy trousers as I'm a bit of a sucker for stripes. They'd look very cute with a plain top but with the addition of the matching stripy hat.

hedgepig toddler groups aren't for babies, they are for mums. They're all the better if you have a baby that can't move, that way there is more time for coffee and chat and less time trying to stop them sucking on the grubbiest looking toy in the church hall! I didn't think I'd go to many with Elizabeth as I was feeling a bit 'been there, done that 3 times before' but I've met lots of really nice, interesting people and made lots of friends. Must go shortly as I help set up the one we're off to this afternoon.

mum41 I drove a Grand Voyager when we did a house swap with friends of friends in Connecticut and very nice it was too. Due to financial restrictions we'll be sticking with our Volvo V40 which is the smaller estate car rather than the big boxy Volvo. We will really struggle with 2 car seats plus Grace in the back so it's lucky she's quite skinny!

MUM41plus5 · 03/03/2009 14:23

JW Me posh? Ooohhhh Nnnooooo! I wish wasn't a good time to have to change either, we lost a lot of money on the Lexus due to the current economic climate, it was the sliding doors that sold me with the voyager, no more having to park on the top floor of a multi story (is that right for a car park 'story'?) just to be able to get a parking space with no one either side just to be able to open the doors to get DT's out, can park any level now

hedgepig I take DT's to playgroup, they are all ages where I go, they love it even just sitting on my lap watching the fun go on around them, wears them out too
I don't think they're going to be walking too soon (lazy chimps that they are) so good job I don't have to wait till they do

jj HGV licence lol, I need one but I do have a full motorcycle licence took it when I was 33, must have been a bit of a midlife crisis point
I did get a little cold feet about this internet worry I have, you know like I said, who is really who etc so stayed away for a while but then thought, like you said, I'm ok on this thread and really did start to wonder how you all were, so here I am, back again, only on this thread though

liahgen hello and congratulations! number 6 hey and you still have 3 under 5, I'm impressed

MUM41plus5 · 03/03/2009 14:28

Hello ladymac read a post earlier and thought perhaps you were off bringing new life into the world how long do you have now? I totally agree about playgroup

jeanjeannie · 03/03/2009 14:47

mum41 I think it's tres cool to have a motorbike licence - good on you! They terrify me. My bessie mate has a bike and DP too....oh I do worry. My former DP had one and not a car, so my hair used to continually look like a bird's nest whenever we arrived anywhere

I wouldn't worry too much about odd people on the internet. I met DP through Match.com and he turned out to be who he said he was There are a few nutters on MN but I avoid them - just like I would if I saw them coming towards me in the high street!!

Verity has discovered a doll - she's mesmerised - she keeps poking its eyes to open and shut and she's making the oddest noise Verity that is - not the doll!

Afternoon all!

Saw OB and endo today. Everyone is very happy with baby! OB said that the diabetes was indeed the reason for the heart scan this Friday. Very unlikely that there is anything wrong, but could have an enlarged heart, so its to be prepared just in case.

Also had a quick scan (the one advantage to having diabetes, I scanned at almost every OB appointment!) and its in there, wiggling away kicking and punching me!

JJ you're a tease...need more of that Palin story!

I think I forgot to say welcome liahgen! Its nice to have you with us!

mum41 like JJ I met DH on the internet. In fact I've met a lot of people in real life that I've met on the internet. The freaks are actually few and far between!

MUM41plus5 · 03/03/2009 16:11

Tee so glad things went well for you today ''its'' in there, what are you expecting to have, a little alien (mind you I sometimes think thats what I've had, all of them in fact, must be from another planet, especially the teenagers) but you don't have to worry about that yet

I think you and jj are probably very right in that you met your DH's online and you both seem very happy, I on the other hand met two husbands in RL til I found the right one (number 3 ) so I have full faith in what you say about folks on tut-net

Tee2072 · 03/03/2009 16:12

mumr41 I don't know if its a boy or a girl, so I have to call it, it! Or The Baby!

MUM41plus5 · 03/03/2009 16:32

I'm probably going to sound really silly now and am probably the only one on here who did, but.... before we knew what we were having we used to call them our little beanies DH3 loved that

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 03/03/2009 16:46

Had a scan this morning and they couldn't detect a heartbeat nor could they see the yolk sac. Sizing a little small too so not a great sign. HCG levels quite high at 6,540 so another blood test booked for Thursday to see if HCG levels rising. Has anyone had a similarly gloomy prognosis at this stage and then had a positive outcome? TIA

jeanjeannie · 03/03/2009 16:49

tee great news all went well...and that 'baby of yet-to-be-discovered sex' is a happy bunny. Well, no, not a bunny exactly, but a small mammal none-the-less

I think little beanies is fine mum41 I've heard a lot 'odder'. Mind you, nothing in the odd stakes beats a friend's friend (true story by the way) who asked their son what he wanted to call his little sister when she was born. So he said....Cushion. And lo, the babe was christened Cushion Cushie for short. Nice.

Raining and cold. Oh where has the nice weather gone?

jw hope Costco was good and no high percentage fat produce has been purchased

MUM41plus5 · 03/03/2009 17:00

ooooopppppsss I meant DD3

hedgepig · 03/03/2009 17:41

extremelychocolately sorry to hear the scan wasn't so good. Not something I have experienced but thinking positive thoughts in your direction.

DS1 Was baby bunny pie or BBP for short & DS2 was beanie.
