Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

bluepool it stands for darling daughter, husband, son, children etc. There's a list of abbreviations somewhere about that should see you right.

nite

xx

mrsboogie · 22/02/2009 23:10

work tomorrow. boo.

Tee2072 · 23/02/2009 07:43

Morning all

boo mrsb. But me too!

bluepool you can find the list of acronyms here.

My first 4 day week. YIPPPPEEE!!

Triggles · 23/02/2009 08:23

Busy day here today, too. I have to call the surgery and make a couple appointments. The diabetic team should be calling me to set up an appointment. And rent needs to be paid. And a visit to FIL in hospital. I need to organise the meal plan for the week (with enough leeway to change according to diet needs after my diabetic appointment). And hoover, clean the kitchen, finish the laundry, and make chicken soup for tea tonight. It doesn't seem like much, but I'm rather sofa-bound due to SPD, so I have to space the cleaning out throughout the day to have resting between.

I bought some Splenda yesterday - you can use that during pregnancy, right?? I wanted to be able to have my decaf tea or coffees still without having to worry what it would do to my sugar intake!

ermintrude13 · 23/02/2009 09:28

Morning all. It's an 'Insect Day' here so my DC are on a 4-day week like you Tee. I bet that makes Monday mornings a bit more manageable .

Triggles meal plans, dietary changes, cooking, hospital visits AND cleaning! With SPD! That's a lot more than I'm taking on without any form of backache, I take my hat off to you but don't overdo it.

JW hope those toothypegs come through soon.

Have fun at the class JJ.

hedgepig · 23/02/2009 09:58

morning (I think), what is it about babies that makes them think 4am is a good time to get up to play?

Triggles that is an amazing amount of stuff to get through with or even without SDP try to get some rest. I have stated a 3 week rolling menu system which actually is working reasonably well so far. I just couldn't get organized enough to think of new things to eat all the time.

JW he hasn't roled all the way yet but can get on his side and then waves his legs like mad trying to get to his front (A bit like a dying fly very funny)

johnworf · 23/02/2009 10:17

ermintrude just laughing at your 'insect' day Well, after a weeks half term, DSS is still off with his bad cold and DH has taken him to the doctors. Personally I think he's swinging the lead but DH falls for the oscar winning performance DSS was actually at his mothers house this weekend but she rang on Saturday night to say that he was ill and could we come and collect him? This is normal.....she only wants him when he's well. Came home and wanted to go straight on his Xbox. So not that much wrong with him.

triggles that's what you call a to do list. Nothing even slightly close to that here at Worf Towers...just plan to get from now to bedtime without too much going on.

haha hedgepig I see what you mean about O doing his dying fly. K can get that far but then gets stuck with the final leg round to complete, oh and an arm seems to get stuck somwhere as well!

triggles the dietician will advise you on what you should and shouldn't be eating with GD.

I've finally found the reason why I lose my temper so much these days. According to this report, it's perfectly normal. Huzzah for me

ermintrude13 · 23/02/2009 10:37

I'm seeing a gap in the market for baby exercise videos - Oliver and Katherine are doing their own version of Jane Fonda's famous scissor kicks

JW the woman in that article loses the sympathy of the average DM reader by saying 'Asian office', 'career', 'boarding school', 'Nanny' and 'bikini wax'. You should send in your own version involving prem baby requiring special attention, cooking roast dinners for older DC, putting up with DSS's Waynetta mother, keeping a house without servants and running an Ebay business from the back room. Someone readers could actually relate to, who doesn't even put a bikini wax on the monthly schedule because a) where is the time? and b) how many swimsuited moments are you likely to have, during which strangers look closely at your groin, in the near future? You'd become an overnight sensation!

Neddie · 23/02/2009 10:59

I confess I've never had a bikini wax. Or any other kind of wax- I tried it once on my legs and the pain wasn't worth the result. I don't know how to link to Youtube but if you search- Smack the Pony and swimming pool you will see the most hilarious sketch involving bikini lines!!
Why oh why did I not get to see the Oscars last night. Not for the Ceremony, just too see a couple of hours of Hugh Jackman-Sigh...

mrsboogie · 23/02/2009 11:28

mornin' all

hedgepig 5am seems to be becoming getting up time here. D is going to sleep earlier and earlier in the evening (6.30 he wants his bed nowadays) and starts harrumphing from 5am onwards. Please someone tell me how to halt this before it becomes set in stone!

re waxes - leg is more painful than bikini but even when I have bikini wax I always used to go in thinking I'd go for the brazilian but chicken out once she got going and beg to be let off the table .

Triggles · 23/02/2009 11:32

johnworf yes, the dietician will advise me - if they ever get their act together at the surgery and call me! Test results came back Friday, they get the referral to the diet team today or tomorrow, then "sometime this week probably" the diet team will call me to make an appointment. I called this morning asking if I could make an appointment, as I have a ton of other appointments this week, and between them and hospital visits, I'm going to be in and out of the house all week and don't want to be playing phone tag with them, delaying my appointment with them even further. I was told that "no, they can't even make an appointment for later in the week" with me, as the referral technically hasn't gone through, even though they KNOW they would have the referral in hand before the appointment. Which means I probably won't get to see them until next week. Another week of stressing over having no info.

The maternity assessment centre called today to find out if I had blood drawn (at THEIR centre) Friday for thalassemia testing. I said I didn't have a clue all that they drew for - bad enough I had to remind them twice about doing the second set of testing draws for the downs testing. She gets all huffy and says "well, didn't they ask you if you needed it?" I said no. Four separate people called me after my 12wk appointment blood draws and said "oh, we need to do a bit of further testing on your bloods for thalassemia, so we just need your permission to test your blood further." They never said anything about getting further blood draws, and since they were from the lab, they gave the impression they were just doing further testing on the blood they already had! (in fact, one person DID state that!) Now, apparently that's NOT what they meant. How in the world am I supposed to know this?? I asked if they had the results of the Downs screen yet, and the girl said "oh that should have been back weeks ago" to which I had to say "um, nooooo, not likely, since they took the second half of the blood for testing on FRIDAY!" My regular midwife if off sick for weeks now (not her fault, obviously) but I have to go to a different surgery for a different midwife this week as they haven't arranged any cover for her. Is it just me or is this extremely disorganised?!?!

I am stressing big time, and because of no diet info, am freaking out over everything I eat, and can't even take a bit of joy in some cake. I should've stayed in bed today.

BonzoDoodah · 23/02/2009 11:32

morning all (just) ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
after a weekend of not eating and puking M woke up at 5:30 am demanding bickbix. Must have been starving poor little skinny mite. So brought her down for toast and then plonked her back in bed. Taken day off work as she's not completely well enough for nursery.

hedgepig I'd be very suspect about the paypal thingie - unless you get them to refund the first payment. They can always phone paypal and sort it out their end somehow. (interested in VBAC books ... need to find you - give me a clue)

Got a great thing off Freecycle yesterday - a babydan pram seat. Looks just the thing for M to sit on when she won't walk (will only be 2 when sprog2 is born. I always pushed M about in a pram like the one in the babydan picture - facing me as we walked everywhere. I always chatted away to her and she was saying words at 10 months old. Don't know if that's genetic, the pram or a fluke ... but is great.
MrsB did I completely misunderstand and they are paying you but just a month late? If so - phew. If not I'd argue you gave more than 8 weeks notice by telling them in writing at the first instance that you were coming back in Feb.

Triggles · 23/02/2009 11:34

mrsb DS2 goes to bed at 6pm (can't last any longer and gets cranky if he's not started bed routine by then!), but does wake up usually around 6am. I'd say it's pretty much set in stone here. I'm trying to push myself to go to bed early, but it can be difficult.

ermintrude13 · 23/02/2009 11:34

mrsb DS's wake-up time was 5.10 for nearly 2 years, just before he was 1 to when he was almost 3. We tried everything like changing bedtime, blackout blinds, feeding him later etc. but nothing worked. Then one magical day I woke to see it was 6.30am and he's pretty much stuck to that. Hope you find the answer because it was an absolute killer, especially when they're too little to understand the notion of playing quietly until the alarm goes.

I found bikini line wax much more painful than lower leg, which I could easily do myself with those strips. Only had underarms done once - now that did hurt! That was when I swam 3 times per week, a bygone age.

Tee2072 · 23/02/2009 11:58

I actually find that article makes me angry. Why does she not insist that DH clean up vomit etc? I think she's setting herself up for her own anger.

Also, I agree with ermintrude. So sorry your bikini wax was interrupted, love. Why did you answer your phone?

johnworf · 23/02/2009 12:16

tee I can sympathise with some of the article. Obviously not the boarding school, bikini wax or the call from the India office before it's light I can however relate to the selective deafness of one's OH when there's a baby crying/puking/screaming. You'll find that men are very good at turning over in bed and feigning sleep to avoid getting up - especially during the winter months when it's cold and dark.

mrsb praps D will sort out his sleeping pattern when the clocks go forward? Just a thought. K's bedtime is around 9pm and she'll sleep until 7ish. Can't complain at all.

triggles sounds like your GP surgery is run by the Keystone Cops. This is the problem when your care is not consistent or with one team. I chose to have hospital antenatals as opposed to my GP surgery which most opt for. However, I went to a hospital outside of my trust (for various reasons, but one being that it was voted Excellent when they did the hospital inspection reports), so my care was given to me by one team and one team only. Saw the same people each visit

Just to give you the heads up, at K's check up last week the consultant told me that March is diarrhoea and vomitting season - no explanation as to 'why' - so just wondering if your LO has caught whatever is going around bonzo

I've never had a bikini wax nor intend to do so. My DD#1 has one done on a regular basis. I can't think why I would need to put myself through the pain for very little gain. The mere thought of someone I've never met ripping hair from my nether regions makes me cross my legs and wince

Triggles · 23/02/2009 12:20

A bikini wax is something I've never had - and never wish to, honestly! I know of a few that have had it done before their delivery so they're all "neat and clean" for the birth, and my mind boggles!

jeanjeannie · 23/02/2009 12:43

Afternoon all. Bikini waxes are evil and leave you looking like a newly plucked chicken. Veet - that's the way to go here at JJ towers Mind you - not done it for yonks - like ermintrude says, bikini moments are thin on the ground for me and 'personal grooming' has all but gone out of the window!

Language playgroup ended up with us having the luxury of a full on one-to-one with a therapist - blinkin amazing. Apaprently people just don't turn up to appointments - there should have been 4 other families...shocking There are people, especially in London, where a speech therapy appointment is like golddust.

She decided Iris actually had more words than average for her age - and that it was just placing two together that was the problem - and that's common. Also she thought that her brain wanted to describe more than she was able to because she's very advanced with colours and shapes (which indicates desire for descriptives) - so it's predominantly frustration. However, if by the summer hols we're still worried then we've a fast-track place for Sept where she'll go on an intensive course. At the present she's more advanced than the course for her age - so that's a good thing

triggles your schedule for the day looks like my list for the week!

tee enjoy that 4 day week

Stump grinder man has been - now have HUGE holes in the garden - fence goes up next... hurrah

MUM41plus5 · 23/02/2009 12:54

ermintrude lol, I'm not aware of this article but by reading all your posts I can guess, everyones stress and stress levels are all different and it is all relative, take me on my wedding day, I was stressed to the hilt, oh my god what if I broke a nail, not good for photos, what if the wind blew DH kilt up, what if it rains etc etc, all those things were real to me and then, yesterday, thinking of Jade and her dream day, how shallow do I now feel but all relative at the time I suppose!
I think we all have our own stress and deal with it in a way appropriate for the situation well that is apart from once a month when everything seems 10 times worse and the fuse is way way shorter than the other 4 weeks of the month

bonzo hope she feels better as the day goes on, my DD3 had that christmas morning and most of the christmas holiday so hope she doesn't get it again for March

jw I find calprofen is better, I think its easier on the stomach, DT's have been dribbling and manically biting anything they can get their hands on for weeks now but teeth just don't seem to be breaking through.

mrsb DT's go to bed at 6:30pm and wake around 6:30 to 7:00am and that does seem to be their routine only thing I would say is 6:30am is now begining to get lighter and will of course as the days go on and I find it alot easier when there's a nice sunrise to wake too

jeanjeannie · 23/02/2009 13:01

Just a quickie fashion alert - what is it with the Oscars for bringing out a lack of fashion sense? What happens to women, when armed with a choice of anything in the world they want to wear - they get it sooooo wrong? Mind you - how cute are those LOs from the film Slumdog....OOOoooo.....just gorgeous....the whole cast just looked sooooo pleased and happy, like they're at a school play

OP posts:
hedgepig · 23/02/2009 13:08

JJ you must be so relieved, is there anything you can do to help her to put 2 words together or is it just giving her time?

I did try those wax strips you do at home once for a bikini wax and it hurt rather a lot . TBH when I go swimming I don't tend to bother I'm so short sighted that I can't see anyone else in detail that I forget they can see me. I am expecting to see an "am I being unreasonable" thread about me soon.

MrsB Ben used to do pretty much the same thing as D, he started growing out of the 5am waking at about 8 months. Is D still waking at 1am too? O is waking at 1.30am an 4-5am. I'm trying not to fed him at 1 but do end up taking him into bed to resettle. I'm hoping not feeding him at 1am will eventually discouraged him from waking then, fingers crossed.

ebay thing seems to have sorted itself out, the seller is now back to the original paypal account and so I am much more happy.

bonzo if you CAT me here (If you have it set up) or email me at helly hedgepig at yahoo dot co dot uk (all one address with no gaps and @ for at and . for dot) and I can send them too you.

ermintrude13 · 23/02/2009 13:08

Waxing was v handy for when I was swimming all the time because it took ages for anything to grow back so I only rarely needed it. Immac - sorry, Veet (I can't get used to Starburst or Snickers either) - doesn't last anywhere near as long and if I use it more than about once a month it gives me eczema, and it's not a good place to scratch in public . But brazilians - no chance, my porn star days are over and I'd just look like I had syphillis. As you say Triggles, sorting myself out down below for the midwives is not on my list, and I doubt it's on theirs.

JJ sounds like you had a very promising session and Iris is going to be a star pupil

MUM41 the article was posted in a link by JW and was really a complaint about how women have to multi-task - in this case a v high-powered job right down to cleaning up 3 lots of baby vomit while her DH slept through. Her basic case was sound but her lifestyle - DS at boarding school, nanny at home, international phonecalls and vital bikin waxing - made her rather erm atypical.

Fortunately my DH responds well to a good kick and has cleaned up mucho vomit whilst half-asleep. But he does need telling.

hedgepig · 23/02/2009 13:29

Triggles I forgot to say please don't stress over everything you are eating just eat sensibly until you see the dietitian and what a nightmare with all these blood tests you really do not need this adding to your stress levels.

johnworf · 23/02/2009 13:48

I hardly go swimming these days but have passed through the barrier marked 'don't care' for my swims in the past. I'm, errr, well, quite dark and it's a job trying to keep everything in the material these days But I can't be that bothered enough to actually do anything about it. I don't even do my armpits unless I'm wearing something short sleeved so over the winter months, the pits go into hibernation and it looks as though I have voles curled up under each arm As I've said before, it takes enough effort to brush my hair and clean my teeth so 'luxury' grooming is just not an option.

JJ so pleased to hear that Iris is doing far better than you first thought. I had a feeling that she'd be ok. I take it the HV put the willies up you about her not being up to scratch in the first place?

I actually asked at K's check up last week if she was doing everything she should and the consultant was very pleased with her and said that she was, without doubt. However, we won't know yet about the cerebral palsy until her next check up as they have to be over 6 months and if she has got it, then it'll start manifesting itself by then. Hopefully not.

triggles if you want to look at a kind of diet to follow whilst you are waiting to see your dietician, have a look at low GI. It's more or less what you'll be advised to follow anyway. Just watch your fruit/fruit juice intake.

jeanjeannie · 23/02/2009 14:02

jw LOL@ voles cured up under each arm

And yes, it was indeed a HV.....how did you guess MMmmm, most of them you need to light touch paper and stand well back! Never return to a lit HV - once they've got a bee in their bonnet then tend to go off in your face

Gosh - I didn't know about the cerebral palsy was a possible prem side effect. I'm sure the fact she's doing so amazingly well so far (and so strong and solid) can only bode well.

hedgepig it appears we're doing all the right things re: helping her put 2 words together - so it's just more of the same [pleased with self emoticon!]

I find with hair removal it's worse in the winter and need to do my legs then as I've got white hairs so that just looks WRONG poking out of black opaque tights!
