Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Funny how people's personal finances are so different even these days. We're both self employed and so any money we have coming in is 'ours'. We have seperate bank accounts though and obviously business ones are just that. He could find out how much I spend on his presents if he could be bothered, which he isn't and vice versa. We're not big on birthdays and xmas presents. If there's something I want, I buy it. And in one way I have the perfect husband as I buy lots and never have to hide anything...he never asks 'is that a new skirt' or 'how much was that bag?'

Had far too much fish and chips tonight and feel a bit sick...not helped by the two twix I had this afternoon [guilty emoticon]

mrsb come in mrsb Can you please state your location?

Cup of coffee and a foot massage plus a dvd with steve carrell later. Rivetting huh?

Glad you had fun with the fingers ermintrude. Myself and DH were trying it when it was on last night. Did anyone see the repeat of Coast tonight? I really do love that programme even if it was a repeat. Strangely, find the scottish man with the ponytail who presents it attractive...eek!

johnworf · 07/02/2009 19:25

OOh duchesse what line of business are you in?

Note to self: tell DH and business partner we need more business meetings in Paris/Brussels/Copenhagen/Peckham instead of over the kitchen table/in bed

duchesse · 07/02/2009 19:32

johnworf I'm a translator, they're both interpreters. We're setting up a service that will be able to provide the complete package to businesses during conferences etc... Interpreting during, translation of notes and write-ups afterwards.

mrsboogie · 07/02/2009 19:57

hello hello - here I am!

Did pop in earlier to check up on Miss K's progress but didn't have time to post. Glad to hear she is doing well - she is one tough little lady and no mistake jw

blimey but this thread has been moving apace today! It's fab getting new members as it keeps the conversation fresh but it also means the thread moves even faster.

Mr D has been with his grandparents all afternoon and has only just been returned (sleeping in the car seat - nice!) so me and OH took the opportunity to do the weekly shop, visit the very nice butchers across town for the weekend's meat, erect some shelves in the kitchen and otherwise tidy the playroom that our sitting room has become.

Mr D is becoming a very excitable and energetic wee boy, which is great and as it should be, but this also means that he wants to carry on being awake no matter how tired he is and he can end up sooo overtired and upset. He used to have a smallish whinge before sleeping but now he can get quite hysterical. Darkened rooms and quiet don't usually make a difference either as he will be in the cot practically vibrating with excitement while clearly knackered. I think he did this to the grandparents today as grandad seemed a bit disturbed when he dropped him off and said he'd been very distressed before he fell asleep.

I'm hoping he will grow out of this - reassurances gratefully accepted...

Haven't time to comment on latest posts but agree totally re the "greegrocers apostrophe's" conversation. The dumbing down of the English language does my nut and I get it at work also as the powers that be are very keen on Plain English while simultaneously employing the most ludicrous corporate buzz- speak themselves.

MUM41plus5 · 07/02/2009 20:19

Oh dear mrsb is that me, talking too much are the threads not supposed to go to quick or slow, not aware of the etiquette on a site like this all new to me, bit like a kid in a sweetshop at the moment, sorry!

mrsboogie · 07/02/2009 20:39

oh noooo please don't think I meant anything bad mum41 or was complaining - we have always been a nattery lot - everyone comments that there's loads of catching up to do if you haven't been on for a day or so - its just moving a bit faster this weekend.

Believe me I am hoping it carries on as it will ease my transition back to work no end!

mrsboogie · 07/02/2009 20:41

ps - there is no etiquette - just as well as you will discover us lot are forever having to start new threads as we have got to the 999 posts in record time!

jeanjeannie · 07/02/2009 20:53

Evening all *wipes away the signs of sweet & sour from mouth That's the diet gone to pot!

duchese well done you for setting up a business. I did in 2005 - but by 2006 I embarked on a new life and decided to hand over the reigns to my business partner when I found out I was preggie. It's doing really well and I often wonder if I did the right thing What languages do you translate? Oh please say it's something wild like Mongolian

Hi mrsB sounds like young Mr D is so high on life that he gets overtired and can't get himself off to sleep. Seems to be quite common when they start doing more stuff. Verity was sat on her rug this evening chatting away and clapping (her new fave thing) when she fell asleep upright - then went 'splat' face down! Took 40mins to get her to go to sleep - screaching like a Harpy she was!

ermintrude sounds quite sensible when you put it like that. We have both - joint and own and then our own ISA's - but as a SAHM the bills are going out in both names but only DP's money is going in.... Tee hee!!! Ah, it'll all end soon - I'm getting offered work now and I'll not be able to say no, especially as it's advertising copywriting and that's always worth getting out of bed for

mum41 ah, I can't get my DP behind a desk - it's the manual stuff he loves. It's bizarre, he's an absolute academic boffin yet he turned down Eton, Uni etc to be a carpenter/builder and he's a really happy bloke! A conservatory is on the cards but not yet - it's all £££ and time. He did knock up a very impressive side extension last year complete with glass lantern roof - it's gorgeous....so can't complain!

Hahaha mrsB just saw your last post - I like to think we'll ease you back into work!
Right - Midsomer Murders and biscuits for me tonight....whoop de doo!

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 07/02/2009 21:49

awww jj poor V going face down it is funny when they do that - you could've had £250 off You've Been Framed if you'd been recording her!!

Oh 'eck I've just had a horrible thought - our IT blokes are forever finding websites to ban- what if? please, no, what if they've banned MN when I get back?

Eeeek

johnworf · 07/02/2009 22:09

oh my god mrsb what will you do if you can't get on the t'interweb while you're at work? You're gonna have to go and flutter your eyelids at the IT men if they've blocked us!

K is still grunting in her cot trying to get herself off to sleep. It's normal for her. Sounds like a farmyard up there She's lying there perpendicular in her cot, taggie blankie on head, grunting like a little piglet. Seems like she's getting a bit better to me As for young Mr D he sounds perfectly normal. Just have to try and avoid over stimulating him which is easier said than done but...saying that, look at his past few days. He's gone to nursery and been out to grannies and that's not his normal routine so, he's probably a bit out of the loop right now. Once he's in nursery and at grannies on a regular basis he'll probably calm down (you hope )

Ah a translator duchesse. Far more interesting than what I do and seems like you have a perfect excuse to go to Paris if you translate French, which I assume you do.

I'm just in the midst of persuading DH to give me a nice foot rub but he's coming back with rubbish excuses....I'll offer him my body later. That always works

johnworf · 07/02/2009 22:09

Still chuckling at upright Verity asleep.

awwww.

mrsboogie · 07/02/2009 22:44

'ere jw and jj some good bargains on yellow lolly esp this lovely dress here

mrsboogie · 07/02/2009 22:50

and as for this

johnworf · 08/02/2009 07:53

Thanks mrsb for the link. Only looked at Yellow Lolly today. Alas, most of the stuff I wanted wasn't available in her size Got her a few things from The Hedgepig though and a lot of what I wanted on there wasn't available either. Think they're trying to get rid of the old stock but there's only bits and pieces left. I'm looking for, without success, a hat for K. One of the proper scandinavian ones like the one she already has. This one is getting a bit small for her though. I know Molo do one but none of the stockists in this country seem to do them past 6 months so may have to have it shipped from Sweden.

Another cold day here and I think more snow is forecast for today. I'm doing a sunday roast today after an absence of 2 weeks as illness stopped play. DS#2 is being picked up and DD#1 and b/f have 'ordered' one to be picked up (they were out on the razz last night and so will be having hangovers all round I expect).

Tee2072 · 08/02/2009 08:20

Morning all. Ooh, pretty dresses. Baby girl clothes are so precious.

Teehee on Verity falling over asleep. Must have been pretty funny. Poor little thing.

Hope everyone has a nice day. I'll be spending the morning cleaning, as the PILs are coming down this week to stay.

duchesse · 08/02/2009 09:42

Yup, French, I'm afraid. Ans Spanish. Very dull. Nothing exciting like Outer Mongolian. And my sister and friend both live in France, so it makes sense for me to go there. Luckily I don't have to go too often.

MUM41plus5 · 08/02/2009 11:44

Morning All

you all live such exciting lives, business women jetting off to far off places mine seems so dull in comparison, wouldn't change it for the world though

duchesse I include you in that statement hello and congratulations, like you say the older ones can occupy the little one which does come in handy but I find not to expect too much, only if it fits in with thier hectic scedueles

morning mrsb aaahhhh, I breath a sigh of relief, thought I'd nattered on too much and too long

And jw my boys do alot of grunting, like you say sounds like a farmyard sometimes, never had it with my others so nice to know they're not the only ones so glad K is feeling better

hedgepig · 08/02/2009 14:04

hi, I'm just about to try and put together the big boy cot so I may be a while, it is very fiddly.

JW for Scandinavian hats try raindrops its not a a baby shop but does seem to do some of its hats in baby sizes, also fab waterproofs and outdoor clothing for older children, but £££

MrsB my company is also rather fanatical about banning websites. I fact I was very surprised that I could get onto mumsnet before I went on maternity leave. When we were having and enforced company move from Norfolk to Essex we couldn't get any results for the following search "estate agents in Essex" Why? because of the sex in Essex. They relented when it was pointed out if they wanted us to move we needed somewhere to live

right where are my spanners ???

ermintrude13 · 08/02/2009 14:31

hedgepig, good job you didn't want to move to Scunthorpe

hedgepig · 08/02/2009 14:53

that would have sent the monitoring software into overload Ermintrude

johnworf · 08/02/2009 15:51

haha. Excellent move to Scunthorpe or even Essex. Very rude places to live

Good luck with your cot hedgepig. We did our M&P cot bed without any instructions and it was pretty straight forward...they're usually head/foot board and two rail sides aren't they? Throw in a few nuts and bolts et voila as duchesse would say

Everyone is flaked out on the sofas here or up in their cot (K) and I'm taking 5 minutes out of the kitchen doing late sunday lunch.

Thanks for the link hegepig. I've already looked on that site. In fact I think I've looked on every bloomin' site that sells baby hats! I've found a katvig one that I'm going to order from Nordic kids Also thought I'd get this while I was there

Ah well, best get back...there's a chicken shouting me.....ttfn

jeanjeannie · 08/02/2009 16:17

Happy Sunday everyone We've been to meet up with our old NCT crowd and had a lovely time. The girls are pooped and so are we.

LOL@rude place names! No chance of looking up the nice Edwardian house round the corner from us - on Cock lane then!

hedepig how's the cot looking? Like a cot - or something weird and wonderful!

duchese French and Spanish are exciting to me! We've toyed with Iris learning Serbian or Polish but she's not doing too well with English yet!

jw LOVING the red print sleepbag suit thing - that rocks. Have a lovely chicken - I'm making an apple, pear and almond sponge pudding from this month's Delicious Magazine (love that mag) but I've lost interest!

Oh - Iris has woken up and sounds non too happy

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 08/02/2009 16:36

'ullo all

ooh cheers for posting that Nordic kids site jw I am fifty pounds lighter in 5 mins! seriously have been looking for a few nice body suits for D and as you say many sites seem to be low on stock at the mo. Got some nice orange and brown things just now.

That pudding sounds fab jj. Must get that mag - I love reading recipes.

Good to hear K is on the mend.

eeek it's getting on for 5pm and not a child washed in the house! must away!

hedgepig · 08/02/2009 17:10

It's built and we didn't kill each other in the process, . Thanks for the instructions JW !!! ours is very similar BUT the screws and fixings never seem to fit in the holes & then it falls to bits when you are picking up the next fixing bit. So its built until we need to unmake it to get it out of our room into his own, so he is in our room until he is 3 I think

Must go and cook some tea

MUM41plus5 · 08/02/2009 17:11
