Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Tee I married my husband in scotland and yes he did wear a kilt we meet his cousin and her husband up there and they were our witnesses but apart from that there was no one else, not my first marriage and he didn't want a fuss and the girls, only had the 3 at the time were shared between our family while we were away otherwise I don't think he would have worn in front of lots of people

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 11:13

hedgepig thankyou very proud of the fact but don't like to just put it out there too bluntly

well thats shop done, wont be too long before boys wake from nap so better do something constuctive hope to pop back soon and see how JW got on with K....
and thanks all for making me feel welcome

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 11:26

yes I am off too - with a face full of carefully applied slap for the first time in oh about six months!

I think I get you now mum41 being a bit slow also this morning!

laters..

johnworf · 06/02/2009 11:44

Morning all. Well, yesterday did turn into an eventful one....

Saw GP at 5pm and she gave K a check over and a prescription for Salbutamol and a spacer which we duly took away full of hope. Gave it to her early evening whereby she vomitted so badly her milk/phlegm was getting stuck in her throat and she couldn't breathe. I was getting so worried as her face was turning bright red. Anyway I called an ambulance and they agreed she needed to go to hospital. So, with paperwork that allows us to pass go and collect £200, miss out the drunks with head injuries and the 16 year old mums to be in triage, we arrived at our awaiting cubicle. This was just before 10pm. Around 11.40pm a junior doctor from paeds rocked up He was very nice and asked me all the usual questions of K's very long history. I told him all the things I'd done (humidifier, big books under cot etc) and he said he'd like to admit her but he'd get a second opinion from the registrar first. Off he went for another hour and came back and said registrar agreed with me that we could go home but community paed nurse would visit next day. Then he said she'd need a chest xray as a formality. After that the registrar pitched up and we knew each other from SCBU! Shook hands, had a chat, asked me how things were in general...lovely, lovely man. Junior doc is sat there watching this with much puzzlement! ha! So we came away with some saline nosedrops and......registrar gave us findings. She has bronchiolitis and eczema on her face I thought it was a teething rash. She's had the bronchiolitis for over a week and last night was the 'getting worse before it gets better' episode. So, I hand back my pat on the back for good work They think it's come from DSS's cough he's had for a while.

Anyhoo, 2.15am DH and DSS (who he had to get out of bed) came and got us. Got home, K had a feed and nappy change, cup of tea for the big uns and a nice bowl of ready brek for DSS on request.

I'm buggered today. K is sleeping it all off and the coughing seems to have subsided - said clutching rabbits foot, crossing fingers and toes etc.

Other than that, nothing to report. Hope everyone and their LO's are well. Welcome to new comers and I'll report back as and when the princess lets me.

She's asleep at the mo with her taggy blankie on her head.......lol.

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 11:47

OK - now I'm really confused in a baby brain kinda way - and please forgived me as sleep has been pretty thin on the ground here at JJ towers BUT are BOTH neddie AND Mum41 preggie with twins? Or mum41 have you already got twins? Sorry for being daft - it's the snow....*rushes off to lay in a darkened room x

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 11:54

Crossed posts JW So glad you're out. What a heart-stopper. Don't you DARE hand back that pat on the back....bloomin 'eck missus - you did everything by the book - if you hadn't I'm betting K would still be there.

Very pleasing and reassuring that you got to see the SCBU doc - nice when there is the continuity and feel safe in the knowledge you got to talk with someone who is familiar with Katherine's history.

Ah - good old taggie blankie eh - see, Mummy's shopping comes in crucial at times

hedgepig · 06/02/2009 12:01

JW thank heavens you are back and she is OK, I feel silly worrying about someone I have never met in RL (real life mum41) but I do. Try and get some rest while she sleeps.

JJ I think Neddie is expectinfg twins and Mum41 alredy has them

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 12:07

JJ you don't have to be bonkers to be on this thread but it helps

johnworf · 06/02/2009 12:20

Awww thanks hedgepig for your concern. And everyone else too that has posted re K. I'm having a lazy day at DH's request and he's being good and sorting through the washing, bottles etc and has taken the baby monitor off me so he can listen out for her.

I'm having a laze on the bed with the laptop and the intention of catching up on some zzzzz's. However K's bedroom is next to ours and I've got one ear listening for her. It's a mum thing as you lot all know. Can't rest until I know for absolutely 100% cast iron guarantee definite she's ok. I think this is gonna take another few days to work through her system and there is no medication to make it go away quicker.

Slightly unsure what to do about being completely misdiagnosed by GP. DH thinks we should both make an appointment with her or make a complaint but I doubt it would do any good, she's never seen either of us nor K before either. Actually in the ambulance, I was telling the paramedic what had happened when we saw the GP as she was filling in her forms. She actually said to me in the ambulance that the GP was wrong (IHHO) but that was off the record. Scary isn't it?

Meant to add which I found slightly amusing, started my period in all the melee in A&E. Thought to myself 'hmmm, feeling a bit wet today. May be time for a Tena Lady' but actually it wasn't that at all. And had been walking around to Xray and around the A&E with a nice dark patch on my bum. lol. Jeez. Best park me up with the drunks, druggies and generally scrotes!

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 12:39

Awww jw that's a hard one re: GP....if the paramedic thinks it was wrong it maybe an idea to talk through your concerns. You do need to feel confident in your local surgery because you don't want to keep trucking K off to hospital because you're not sure they've got it right.

LOL@ your bum patch...well, you had other things to think about.

Have a good rest and get some ZZZzzz's in if you can

JW feel a little like hedgepig when it comes to worrying about a little one never met in RL (thanks for that hedgepig, would never have known other wise) but then its the same as when little faith and hope were born, I think any mum or anyone with a heart are always concerned when it comes to the little ones. happy that things are not so bad today you sound like one very strong woman!

jeannie my twin boys were born 11th July 2008 I have pics on my profile, will add my older two girls as dh has shown me how to download direct from camera, just a matter of finding time

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 13:05

mum41 Yes, I saw your boys....Sigh - it does make me tempted to have another one - or two You see - that's why I was confused - I'd seen pics and got muddled...it's easy done these days! And I saw you'd called one Fraser - which I LOVE. Frasers are always cool and good looking! I've got a VERY Scottish surname yet DP's is VERY Eastern Euro - so I'd set my heart on a Scottish name - ended up with Iris and Verity

It's true about the whole cyber space / RL thing but sometimes you share stuff with people on the net that you wouldn't in RL - so you end up caring. Plus I think it's a mum thing too. Since I've had LOs (little ones!) I'm much more sensitive towards people with children, their troubles, woes and illnesses.

DP has gone to pick up Iris from nursery and the weather is HIDEOUS...thick, thick snow....so now I'm all jittery...

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 13:24

Jeannie I know what you mean, I looked at several profiles yesterday to get to know whos who, just made it more complicated am getting to know a little now though JW your pics tell such a lovely story and mrsboogie has the adorable bear suit pic just seen yours jeannie and you have two gorgeous little girls.... what a lovely bunch you all seem to be on here

Tee2072 · 06/02/2009 13:40

JW glad you got her sorted and I certainly would go talk to the GP/Practice Manager. K is a special little girl and needs someone who understands what she's already been through! Teehee at the spot on the bum. We've all done it!

I've just got back from my 'its my birthday (well, yesterday) and I'm gonna spend some money' trip. I realized I have 3 evenings out, 2 for work, in the next 6 weeks (including my bday dinner, which is tonight) and nothing to wear! So I went to Mamas and Papas and got this lovely black lace over jersey short dress. Best part? 1/2 price! GO ME!

Neddie · 06/02/2009 14:35

Made it back from work -Good old landrover. Bristol is clear for landing!! A very kind friend who knows I have to go the back roads rather than M4 (due to an accident involving an oil tanker-long story)has offered to drive me there on the motorway.Bless her. I will have to travel with my head under a blanket but it's better than trying to snow-plough my way to Bristol.

ladymac · 06/02/2009 14:57

Hi all.

And hello and welcome to mum41 and neddie. Just so you know a bit about me, I am 45 and pregnant with no 5. Have dd1 24, ds 20 and dd2 12 by my ex-h, now married to my lovely dh and have Elizabeth who is 22 months. No 5 is due on April 14th. We found out Elizabeth was deaf when she was 19 months and she is now a hearing aid wearer. My time on Mumsnet is a little sporadic as the days I don't work are filled with deaf-related activities, plus I talk and talk at the poor child so that she can catch up

Goodness johnworf, what an eventful time you've been having. Sounds like Katherine is on the mend now and at least you didn't have to spend the night in a germ-filled hospital. Kisses are being blown from North London.

jeanjeannie what gorgeous pics of your beautiful girls. I didn't even take one picture after my aborted outing on Monday. We had a huge snow flurry this morning and they've bloody shut Grace's school again due to 'adverse weather conditions'. I didn't think it was that bad but DH did say it's more slippery than it was at the beginning of the week. Did you watch Grand Designs? I know that man, his shops are on our local High Street. He and his wife didn't seem terribly together on the whole project, did they?

MrsB I'm hoping that Darragh got on okay at nursery and that you managed to put your feet up for a bit. Enjoy the weekend and I'm sure he'll be fine come monday and be well looked after on his first full day. Hopefully they'll wear him out and he'll sleep well that night. Fingers crossed anyway.

Fish and chips here tonight. There's a large piece of haddock with my name on it. Will also have a glass of white wine as DH says he'll buy a good burgundy - my favourite. I find it goes like a dream with mushy peas

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 15:20

hello all we're back

Nursery seemed to go well - altho' he is knackered - the girls seemed to love him as he is the only, in their words, "proper baby baby" that they have.

Now then jw what a to do! Was saying to OH all night that you hadn't come back to post an update so all was probably not well - and he said it's the baby's first cold isn't it? - he's been paying attention. Even blokes get affected when they have their own kids.

Anyway, the dreaded bronchiolitis - is it a non-specific infection of the bronchioles then if she picked it up from your DSS? I can understand why you would be angry with the doctor's mishandling of her case - probably worth a chat rather than a complaint. I thought Salbutamol was for asthma? Glad it has worked out okay in the end and hopefully she will be back to herself soon. Oh and we'll have none of this malarky about taking back pats on the back - sounds like you have done everything spot on!

Right, well I have been very naughty and purchased a fish pie from Marks which I am now about to eat. Could have been worse - could have been one of those lemon and white chocolate muffins that have haunted my dreams for weeks now

johnworf · 06/02/2009 15:20

ladymac now I've given up wine I find that I don't have to hunt around for what goes best with my usual Friday night pot noodle (nice n spicey) Although I always felt that a Shiraz complimented it well....arf

I feel we'll be having takeaway tonight...and we had curry last night - funny story as DH went to the curry house I hadn't ordered from...then used their phone to ring me to ask which curry place I'd ordered it from! dizzy sod! And cheeky with it

JJ and everyone down the southern way, is the weather still that bad? It's bright blue skies here in the north and the snow and the mush/slush has gone pretty much. In fact it's a lovely day for having a walk - if only K was well enough. Ah well there'll be plenty more.

mrsb meant to say before and promptly forgot, I really hope that D had a good start to his nursery and he likes it. Are your nerves down to their last one and jangling? I think mine would be.

It's funny you saying that you think I'm strong mum41 and I think I am in a lot of ways but last night as soon as we got through the doors into A&E I swear my bottom lip came out as I was very close to tears. Felt them prick my eyes but manage to gulp them away......always happens when it's the children and I'm worried

Still, washing machine is on and hopefully the Vanish will work it's manage on my gusset! What a plonker I am

tee hope you had a fabulous birthday and that your new outfit is lovely - which I'm sure it is as M&P always have lovely stuff in. And a bargain to boot at half price

Did I mention my gliding chair was sold last night and the couple came to pick it up? She was 42 and having her first so we got chatting while the men folk rolled eyes and DH even threw in an 'oh please'. Anyway, seems the sisterhood of the ancient mums has spread.....'we once were few, but now we are many'

johnworf · 06/02/2009 15:26

mrsb xpost but thanks. And so pleased that D had a good day. You deserve the fish pie and I'd have had the muffin too! I've worked my way through nearly a full lemon drizzle cake in the past couple of days. Good job I don't drink or I might have taken to the bottle instead.

Mightily impressed with your OH and his observational skills. Mine only knows how to nod and say yes in the right places although at the mo, I'll give him his due, he's stripped to the waist cleaning out the bathroom. Nothing like a semi naked man covered in sweat, toiling away with a bottle of Mr Muscle in his hand. Does it for me every time

Still deliberating what to do about the GP. I get on very well with another of the docs at the practice but not sure how it will go down with any of them once you're moaning about one of their own. Stil in talks with DH about plan of action. At the mo we're both thinking of making the appointment and speaking with the 'nice' doc and take it from there.

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 16:01

OH NO! all this talk of food, I'm starving now

mrsb how old is ds who started nursery today?, I assumed he was around 4 and starting pre school, checked your profile but no ages given (mines the same couldnt work out the 'how many children bit, says I have none, bit odd) but I'm now thinking he must be younger.

ladymac thankyou for the welcome, big family too hey heaven knows why we go on to have more, you'd think we'd learn our lesson, but oh no

JW tears are never a sign of weakness and yes, realised from this site there are many of us oldie mums I think its alot to do with people staying younger and living longer, I wouldn't change a thing.... one of the only drawbacks, after every child pmt has gotten worse and if I'm anything like my mother I have quite a few years till the change

ermintrude13 · 06/02/2009 16:03

Mr Muscle, is that what you call it, JW . So relieved to hear that K is OK - were were very worried. I think that when taking your LO into A&E permission for lower lip to wobble is always granted - bravery doesn't have to mean not blubbing.

mrsb ah, you've got your wee man back unharmed. Great if he's tired out and will have a good sleep too. I bet he was really spoiled rotten and got cuddles galore.

Nice to hear from you ladymac. Mmm, white burgundy, lovely. I think people who normally go for red wine are always pleasantly surprised by burgundy. Also dry muscat - a revelation! Don't feel like drinking any wine of any sort at the moment, which I suppose is handy, but it's also v weird.

Tee have a lovely meal out tonight and I hope you can enjoy a little glass of something - birthday fizz perhaps?

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 16:09

jw good job you got that lemon drizzle cake in eh - turned out to be totally medicinal - thereby NOT counting as real CAKE LOL @ Vanish on the gusset!

Hi ladymac am smiling at the thought of you constantly talking to Elizabeth - poor girl is probably thinking 'does she ever shut up?'! Yes, that couple were a tad odd. I mean, OK so the neighbours were a bit OTT in the battle but he did read the plans wrong and heck, I thought it was quite ugly. DP was bemoaning what he'd have done with a nice piece of prime Oxfordshire land - and it wouldn't have been that Wife was a bit....flakey...is their shop nice?

mrsB I'm so pleased his nursery visit went well - and yep, I can imagine he'll be spoilt rotten being a proper baby It is blinkin hard on the nerves jw is right and I've got a two year old and still get all nervy! You enjoy that fish pie tonight! In fact fish seems to be order of the day - what with ladymac's haddock.

neddie good to see you back safely and FAB that you get to see DP....awwww [mushy emoticon]

BTW: cheers ladies for the lovely compliments on my pics of girls - most kind.

tee have a lovely time and your outfit sounds fab - good girl - stylish bargin-find-of-the-day award goes to you!

We've all got jippy tummies so it's plain fare for us tonight - jacket spud and beans....boring. Fancy mushy peas after the mention they got earlier....MMMmm, with chips and gravy

OP posts:
BonzoDoodah · 06/02/2009 16:22

jw what a night but what a relief K is ok!

Mum41 you can put your children into your profile by going to MyMumsnet at the top and then editing your account details. Log in and go to the "your children" section - there you can enter their details. They use that to send you personalised emails about the babies' stages. Plus then you can select on your profile to show either nothing or the number or the ages of your children.
And ... I think I'm being thick about your dates. You saying the medial profesionals knew at the time. In which case oooooooooooohkay.

As for all these abbreviatiosn - some of them seem a bit cliquey for me ... why does BFP have to mean a positive pregnancy test? Why not PPT? And D is fine to describe my daughter rather than DD infact SLSD would be more approriate some days (tantrums have started).

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 16:28
