Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

bonzo BFP is actually common all over the 'net, not just on Mumsnet. I think it was started on fertility boards and spread from there!

johnworf · 06/02/2009 17:26

Yep, some of the 'young' threads are almost text or should I say txt, speak? I can't understand them at all and my patience is thinning most days so don't even try.

mum41 we all started out diet at the beginning of the year and talk about the road to hell is paved with good intentions...that should be our motto. Although I think mrsb has done well, myself and hedgepig have slightly fallen by the wayside for now but I'm sure we'll get back on course.....around July for me I'm lying on the bed thinking myself thin so hopefully that'll work.

Did anyone catch the interview with the woman who had the litter octuplets in the US? Totally unethical whoever put that many inside her. Hope they sue their arse off.

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 17:27

oh mum41 there's loads of food talk on here - especially of the cake variety! some of us no longer preggie types are supposed to be trying to lose weight but we seem to have hit a bit of impasse on that front. I'm sure we'll be back on the lettuce leaves ahem any day now. In the meantime bring on the lemon drizzle cake!

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 17:29

haha x post jw ehm no I think you'll find I'm with you and hedgepig lying by the wayside

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 18:47

SShhhhh...don't mention food - I'd just started to do well on the weight-loss front.....and I went to the noodle bar last night with a bunch of other escapees mums! I mean, what's a girl to do when there are NO healthy options on the menu?!

Don't do txt spk either. I'm actually a Pendant's Corner lurker! I get so cross with my spelling / grammar at the moment - usually as I have one or two munchkins writhing on my knee while typing.

Octuplets saga is so unethical

Have a good night all of you and enjoy your fish and chips etc.. I am off to brave the M4 with my friend to pick up some stray German that's landed at Bristol-probably catch up sometime. You all seem such lovely ladies. It is making my time served whilst pregnant(I do not enjoy it) a bit more fun. i am on cloud nine that the airport is open.
Ps. Ladymc WOW!! no.5 at 45. Applauds*

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 19:03

Off you go neddie picking up stray Germans. Now don't do anything daft like have his children or get married to him Enjoy!

Gosh, I hadn't realised that Tess Daley was 40 in April....seems rude not to invite her on to our happy little thread.....hands up all who say AYE!

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 06/02/2009 19:08

JJ is Pendant's Corner a jewellery shop? ) I also flinch at the grocer's apostrophe and other crimes against humanity. Until recently I was also v rude to any friends or family who put a smiley on an email and look at me now .

Mumsnet is certainly simpler to navigate than RL in terms of txt spk. My friend's 11 yr old son told her that a particular film was 'really, like, book.' Book is what you get if you type 'cool' into a mobile with prdctv txt. Yikes, how can you keep up with that sort of thing?

Neddie hope you find your chap and have a lovely weekend.

All this fish on Friday. Maybe there are even more Catholics, lapsed and otherwise, lurking on this thread....

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 19:26

Blimey Jeannie Tess Daley 40, where did I go wrong

bonzo sorry didn't mean to be vauge, just like I said, proud of it, just don't like to shout it from the rooftops thats not to say I mind talking about it because I don't, feel free to ask away

thanks all for tips on web speak, god I feel old realised mine full of smilies, guess I'm just a happy smiley kinda person

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 20:20

OH ASE!!!!! GGggggrrrr PEDANT, PEDANT.....bugger....! God - you're right ermintrude sounds like I've been hanging out at a quality jewellery shop....thinks Elizabeth Duke............

Ah - I see from Channel 4 news that Bucks county council is the lowest on grit/salt - so that's why they closed ALL the schools today - fewer people on the roads - fewer to cause chaos! Doesn't bode well for here though - there are people living on hills so steep that without a car they're only fit for mountain goats.

Mum41 yeah...me too. Would it help if I said she looked rough in the flesh? Nah - thought not ..thing is she's looks brill up-close...she lives near here and see her about...grrrrr

haha @ Pendants corner V funny and has cheered me up no end. Which reminds me, I saw an interview on BBC News the other day with some half wit who I think was an author arguing with an unknown academic about how it is ok to abandon the use commas and apostrophes. Also, how in the very near future no one will be using them. And finally, much to my chagrin, how it is ok not to use them

Stands on her soap box about country going to the dogs, dumbing down etc etc.

ermintrude13 · 06/02/2009 20:28

Nah, Tess Daley only looks good because you always see her next to a man who's as old as Methusela. Honest, she's really wrinkly and prune-lipped, you just don't see it when you're staring at the crevices in Brucie's face and wondering whether his toupe will stay on.

You're not buying this, are you?

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 20:35

HAhahahaha ermintrude nice try - but I usually see her with her little girl- shopping in Next, in the bargin section too

jw you sound like my mate last night - she ranted for a good 20 mins on the demise of commas and apostrophes. And we all agreed with her. I can't see the point of building up a language, so it is rich with possibilies, only to cut it down because a number of people can't cope with it

How's Katherine doing tonight?

OP posts:
ladymac · 06/02/2009 21:51

There is a letter in The Times today from a man saying how his son, who is a doctor, is most concerned about the call to abandon the apostrophe. It is signed Simon De'Ath

Tee2072 · 06/02/2009 22:00

Hi ladies!

Back from dinner with a tummy full of butternut squash risotto, duck breast with wine reduction and 3 pudding chocolate plate! Had a glass of red as well!

Informed the baby on the interior not to get used to it, although will be having at least one more slap dash meal for DH's 35th birthday in March!

ladymac · 06/02/2009 22:03

I am absolutely stuffed. Couldn't finish my haddock and I'm not a big chip person, so only ever eat 5 or so. Also very sad that I could only manage half a glass of wine. And because I felt so full I decided that the only sensible course of action was to eat a tub of Rachel's Organic rice pudding. I must definitely be pregnant!

ermintrude glad to find another white burgundy fan. I have very expensive tastes in wine which is unfortunate as I do not have the money to support such a habit. Although with my half glass consumption at the moment I am a relatively cheap date.

neddie good luck with your airport trip and have a lovely weekend with your man.

ladymac · 06/02/2009 22:05

X-posted tee and now reading your post I feel even more full!

BonzoDoodah · 06/02/2009 23:09

Wow - fish night! We had fish and chips and licked our fingers out of the paper. MMmmmm.

Good luck on the mercy dash Neddie. Hope he's home safe.

LOL at Dr De'Ath.

I'm ranting away at so called "cheap" airlines. Price (reasonable-ish) + £12-15 per bag + £12 to actually be able to sit next to who you're travelling with (or heavens if pregnant to get a safe seat to sit in) + up to £15 for a meal (robbing Thompsons!) not to mention drinks .... I'm going to look at BA!

Tee2072 · 07/02/2009 08:20

Morning all.

After a bad night of tossing and turning, trip to Ikea to look at nursery furniture postponed. Times like these I wish we had a car (and a driver's licence!) because 25 minutes on the bus is just not happening today!

bonzo those cheap airlines, IMHO (in my humble opinion) are only good if you are going on a short hop quick trip. I love Easy Jet, for example, because I can get my boss from Belfast to London for one day for under £50. But if you need luggage etc? So not worth it!

MUM41plus5 · 07/02/2009 08:48

Morning all how are we???

missed a bit of chat last night as dh on ebay putting our buggy up for sale, he had the same problem as me after typing long description, went to post and it all dissapeared, new lap top you see and really sensitive after our 1990's model so anyway he wasn't too happy to say the least as had to start all over again, didn,t finish till 11:00pm by then I was soundo on the sofa so.....

Neddie hope you are reunited and all home safe and sound

ladymac haddock uuummmmm

Tee glad you had a lovely meal

and Bonzo Can't help with the flights thing, our days of jetting off to far away places are a few years away yet think we're resigned to the treasures of what this fair Isle has to offer till the boys are walking at least

hedgepig · 07/02/2009 09:00

morning all, yawn what age are babies supposed to get better as sleeping? I'm on the 2nd cup of coffee already.

Tee your dinner sounds very nice, we are supposed to be having friends over tonight but I'm not sure if they will want to come out in the freezing conditions. I will ring them soon but they don't have kids so are probably still snoozing

I hate flying I much prefer to stay in the UK. I have to go to Germany and France for work from time to time and I just end up so exhausted by the end of it, I manage to not travel for the whole of my pregnancy which was brill.

MUM41plus5 · 07/02/2009 09:29

Morning hedgepig my second cup too and mine sleep more than 12 hours through the night so whats my excuse how old is your youngest?
know what you mean about flying I would need a holiday after a holiday if I endevoured to take my bunch abroard

MUM41plus5 · 07/02/2009 09:35

Just updated pics in profile so my whole brood can be seen, thought I'd better ask the older two first in case they didn't want theirs on there but how wrong was I, what with facebook etc it's the norm for them
