Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

I am feeling v.depressed. My daughters are with DX and I am rattling around the house. I will battle my way into work (self employed)and drop some money off with the girl whose doing my horses at the moment. Hopefully old landrover will make it up the hill.

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 08:58

I was thinking about Katherine - not even had my coffee yet. JW check in when you can - let us know how she is x

neddie oh cripes, DP thwarted by snow I'd say your comfort tactics were 'spot on' Are you covered in the white stuff where you are? And I'm taking it that horses don't care much for being fetlock-deep in the snow! [knows not a lot about horses but thinks they're lovely emoticon]

mum41 See I told you there were more just like you! I love being a mum in my 40s not least because I never expected it to happen. I did hold out on the sex of both my girls. I was completely convinced I was having a boy with DD1 - but no - so 'Ivan' became Iris! Second time we just had a feeling it was a girl but I had so many boys names on the boil that DP named DD2 Verity as I'd 'peaked' with Iris! So all my boys names (oh I have loads!) shall remain unused. Oooo, I could ebay them Fraser anyone?

Our nursery is open but DP has taken her. Probably the only school open but anyone taking £££ is going to go the extra mile!

Blimey neddie just heard about the west country on Radio 4...cor, it's shocking. And Devon too. Do NOT go out in that landrover if it looks dodgy......*rant over!

lilibet not heard from you since the snow...do check in when you can....missing you!

I am about 40 mins from Bath (Eastern side) We have loads of snow- and it's still falling. It's not fair we were going to look for an engagement ring this weekend too. Horses prefer snow to heavy rain- though the foals are covered in frost and cavorting to keep warm.

ermintrude13 · 06/02/2009 09:11

How goes it with baby K JW?

Getting a bit slushy here in places but the pavements are still icy. I'm going to brave it into town today for my friend to buy me a belated birthday lunch that we've already put off twice.

JJ I know what you mean about names. I have first and second names for boy and girl just about finalised and although I would have fainted if they'd told me I was expecting twins there would have been something satisfying about being able to 'use them both up'. .

Mum41 I was thinking you'd have had to use one of those '1 week after conception' pregnancy tests to know you're 3.5 wks pregnant! 7.5 makes more sense!

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 09:16

Funny that Jeannie we had many girls names, they would have been Isobel and Esme but we struggled with boys names dh is half Scottish so Fraser was a firm favorite from the start but was a while till we decided on Regan, funny thing is Fraser is Scottish for forest men and our Fraser is such a chunky little brave fella, what you see is what you get and Regan is Scottish for little ruler and oh is he the little snooty one looking down his nose at you with a little glint in his eye that says my brain is taking this all in

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 09:26

Ermintrude Hi it was a slip of the brain but I do have to correct you there I knew I was pregnant after normal pregnancy test 2 weeks after conception

Tee2072 · 06/02/2009 09:30

JJ sorry, can't take the name Fraser. Its already my surname!

'And this is my son, Fraser Fraser'

ermintrude13 · 06/02/2009 09:42

LOL @ Fraser Fraser, Tee. You could call him Houseof. Sorry.

MUM41 - aha, but at 2 wks after conception you are already officially 4 wks pregnant, if ovulation occurred mid-cycle as it normally does, cos it's counted from first day of LMP.

I know women who have been able to 'tell' a few days after conception, usually because they respond oddly to a certain smell - eg. retching at frying bacon instead of drooling - or realise that coffee tastes different to them. I'm not such a sensitive soul!

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 09:45

oooh there are a ton of girl's names I could choose if I ever get the chance

My little man has gone for his two -hour session at the nursery - OH taking him there as its where we both work. I am feeling all lost without him here and even worse he has to spend the whole day there on Monday

We have no snow here in York. Its just very cold and windy. Hurrah.

By the way neddie and mum41 you have probably picked up on the fact that a few of us ladies are no longer pregnant but are lingering on this thread as we really enjoy the comeraderie. Most are though.

jw we are fretting...

hedgepig · 06/02/2009 10:07

MrsB I'm sure he will be fine, take this time to do something nice..NO HOUSEWORK allowed!

JW lots of positive thoughts coming your way for super K

my snot monster is a lot better this morning and he only woke at 1:30 and 5! isn't it amazing how your perspective of a good nights sleep changes when you have a LO.

Ben went to school sobbing this morning because it was open and he wanted to stay at home

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 10:14

keep popping in and out between boring ole Asda shop

mrsboogie think of it as just 2 small hours out of a 24 hour day, will be lost for only a short while before the fun begins again

ermintrude I conceived 11th November 2007 at roughly mid day and the test confirmed this exactly 2 weeks later

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 10:22

Hey Tee guess you will be well aware of the meaning of Fraser are you Scottish?

I think I'm beggining to get the hang of the abbrieviations on here but could someone tell me what the d is for in dh ds dd etc I thought it was dear or darling, am I wrong?? a few others I dont quite understand yet, how stupid am I

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 10:22

mid day eh? mum41 racey

aye I know, its only a couple of hours today - in fact I will have to start getting ready to walk into town and pick him up soon - so no time for housework or much of anything else!

poor Ben hedgepig I remember it well, when you get those fantastic snow days or the school's boiler expires and you hope it will last forever!

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 10:27

I'm not very well up on them either mum41 but tell us which ones have you foxed and we might be able to help

it took me ages to figure out what bfps and bfns are.

ermintrude13 · 06/02/2009 10:30

MUM41 I swear I wasn't questioning the date of conception! Midday eh? . Just meant that 2 wks after conception makes you 4 wks pregnant officially, because they take the date from first day of last period - even though REALLY you have only actually been pregnant for 2 wks. IYSWIM. So to know you're 2.5 wks pregnant would entail a pg test that works around 4 days after actual conception - actually, I think there are some that are almost that effective now, amazingly.

Just noticed, you say Nov 2007. ?! . I keep writing 2008 on cheques...

hedgepig poor Ben - mine were whingeing at having to go to school this morning, tho DS has a school trip so that cheered him up.

aww mrsb, you can look forward to seeing him again very soon. Hard not to pass on sad vibes - you have to do that cheery waving whilst feeling like weeping. But it's so good that it's where you both work; I used to hate the panicky journeys on late buses and trains to fetch DC from nurseries near home. So glad I don't have to do that any more esp in this snow.

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 10:32

the d in dh dd ds etc I can guess must be husband, daughter, son, partner etc but dont know the d? as for bfps bfns, well not a clue

hedgepig · 06/02/2009 10:39

mum41 midday hey what fun
The D stands for darling or dear so DD is darling daughter etc. If you click on useful links at the top of the page it will lead you to the acronym list where a lot of the abbreviations are (not all).

Have a nice walk mrsB

ermintrude13 · 06/02/2009 10:41

bfp = big fat positive (preg test)

hedgepig · 06/02/2009 10:43

sorry it's useful stuff not links

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 10:43

ermintrude now you really have foxed me IYSWIM ????
and yes you are correct, even in the circumstances of the conception of my boys in which we and all the health proffesionals involed know the exact time and date of conception they still worked it from 2 weeks prior

mrsboogie sorry have looked at so many profiles since joining but aren't you the lady with the lovely pic of the little one in bear suit

MUM41plus5 · 06/02/2009 10:49

just checked and yes it is just makes me smile so much that pic

guess you can all get what I'm saying now about conception but if you all want to think of me as racy thats ok too

Tee2072 · 06/02/2009 10:50

mum41 its my married name. My parents in law are from Scotland, although they've lived here in Northern Ireland for over 30 years.

I really wanted my father in law and my husband to wear kilts for our wedding, but father in law absolutely totally refused!

mrsboogie · 06/02/2009 10:59

Yes, that's my Mr D in the bear suit mum41 - we used to call it the roadkill suit - doesn't fit him any more - it was ridiculously cute although a tad embarrassing to actually take him out in it . My sister bought it for him when he was born.

IYSWIM is shorthand for If you see what I mean.

hedgepig · 06/02/2009 11:01

I've finally cottoned on Mum41 I'm a bit slow this morning well done you.

Tee happy day off, is this your belated Birthday day off?
