VJay · 16/02/2009 18:12

Congratulations fozzie on a fab scan xx

Wheelybug · 16/02/2009 18:38

Great news on scans Diji and Fozzie.

Hope all goes well tomorrow WMMC - will be thinking of you and looking forward to hearing the news.

Dan - hope you're all settling in back home !

scotlass · 16/02/2009 20:40

Hi everyone. This thread is so lovely and busy it takes me ages to catch up and remember where everyone is at.

mrshappy - Congratulations! ? yes, I was here in Sep, in mad panic and disbelief early stages. Can?t quite believe I?ve made it to 31wks tomorrow , have to keep staring at my belly moving to try and reassure myself it?s going to be OK. Can you remember your posting name then? I would have a scan at your stage cos even if it?s just a sac they see that?ll give you a boost and dispel a very understandable fear for you of it being ectopic. I had a few scans through EPU and have to say each and every one helped my mental health. As for the CB digital conception test ? bah! I got a freebie one to trial from MN and used it, got the lower end of conception and told them in my feedback I thought it added unnecessary panic and anxiety, fair enough if you?ve no clue but not good for us that know exactly when we had LMP etc. As it is my due date on scan is 6 days later than LMP but baby will come when ready I?m sure. I?m booking a dbno birth type too!!!

glimmer fozzie and gentle - great news, I?m so glad the scans were good.

WMMC - good luck tomorrow my lovely, hope it goes smoothly. You?ve done so well with all your studying, I hope it?s been left out of the hospital bag. Can?t wait to hear from you about the new addition

bunny and ladyhelen - I had a bikini wax last week (and eyebrow and eyelash tint) ? I?m definitely booking in before D-day. DH did mention perhaps it was time for a trim , wasn?t bothering me much, I couldn?t see it. DD wants to go swimming though and I thought I might clear the pool.

So it?s official, I?m mental ? have booked the caravan for first week of easter hols will be 38wks so grand-parents (who are kindly lending us their little palace) are on standby as substitutes just in case, I?ve made sure it?s only an hours drive from home. Secretly I?m hoping it will mean I?ll go into labour early but if not I can sit in a cosy cocoon watching DVDs eating chocolates getting looked after by DH. Life?s an adventure . DH leaves the forces next week and will be starting a new job early summer so may be last chance for a while for us to get away.

tsom · 16/02/2009 20:42

Hoping you're not bringing any work in your bag tomorrow wmmc.

Good to hear about your scans diji and fozzie

Wheelybug · 16/02/2009 21:59

Gentle - hope everything went ok today.

bunnyinheadlights · 17/02/2009 09:44

fozz congrats on the good scan - isnt it great to see a little bean with heartbeat moving arms and legs? hope that keeps you smiling for a while

wmmc thinking of you!!!!

scotlass and ladyhelen - thanks for sharing re bush trim - gonna get the lawnmower out (ha ha) now and get booked in for a wax. so easy to neglect when it's out of sight!! i did get a pedicure done about 3 weeks ago and am contemplating going for another one in the next few days.

welcome mrshappy as scotlass says, the early scans kept me mentally sane. i had so many but it really helped me focus on positivity.

ashleighbeee · 17/02/2009 14:11

Oh my goodness! I havent been on since Thursday and you have all written sooooo much!! Sorry if i miss people out!!

fozzie & Diji congrats on the scan its just the most amazing feeling isnt it, just wondering if we know how Gentle's scan went?

WWMC good luck hope that you've not taken any work with you, just to reiterate what the others have said, you've worked very hard!

We had our 12 week 3 day scan on Friday and it was perfect.. absolutely brilliant, we saw feet, hands, bladder basically more than i thought we ever would have i had a little cry - i just didnt think we'd make it to the 12 week scan.. we've taken the plunge and booked a scan for 14th March for sexing (i'll only be 16+4 but they said if they cant see then they'll bring me back for free so i might get two scans for the price of one we're off to see if we're having genetic screening on Thurs morning (as partners brother is Albino), I am wondering if they will scan us there as we're going to see a consultant who will have machine in their room... maybe if i just hop up on the bed and get my belly out they might oblige??

Hope everyone is okay, and sorry i have been crap getting updated with everyone's stories.. loving the bush trim convo... i hadnt even thought of things like thigs will re read now to catch up, i think i am 2/3 pages behind, i cant even find my last post!! xx

ashleighbeee · 17/02/2009 15:32

p.s CONGRATULATIONS DAN FAMILY!! ahh Rose is a beautiful name!! xx

Wheelybug · 17/02/2009 17:24

congrats on the scan Ashleigh

dan39 · 17/02/2009 17:56

Hi all - bloody hell this is hard work..lucky Rose is so lovely! I will write more when I am feeling more human, for now i wanted to post a few pics...spending all my waking time trying to be asleep basically! She is utterly lovely and doing realy well - the midwife has been today and she is doing everything she should. Bfing is going well (she has only lost 20g in her first week ) but it doesn't half hurt! Sleeping beside me now - she does this feed feed feed thing every hour, then she goes 5 or six hours and scares me.
Motherhood Myths Parts 1 and 2:

  1. Bfing doesn't hurt
  2. I can't remember as I am too tired but will let you know.. oh - no - I remember - your own child's poo does not smell.
Wheelybug · 17/02/2009 18:30

Aw Dan - she's gorgeous ! LOL at your own child's poo doesn't smell - my Mum has always said you don't mind changing poo-ey nappies when its your own but oh how I beg to differ.

Hope things settle down soon - sounds like you're doing really well !

Fozzie78 · 17/02/2009 19:42

Ahhhhh Dan just seen your pictures and she is beautiful, you must be so happy and proud.

Thanks for kind words everyone, I keep staring at my scan picture, cant put it down. Is that really inside me???? wow its just so amazing.

Congrats ashleigh im so happy for you xxxxx

Hows gentle?

scotlass · 17/02/2009 20:06

Aww, dan she's lovely
Just relax into the feeding and it'll be fine. Just make sure you ensure she's positioned and attached properly each time and the toe curling should settle. Once your nipples get tougher it gets easier, I found it took me a good 6 wks to get the hang of it, don't be shy about asking your MW or HV to check your positioning every so often then you should avoid the problems.

I'm missing you so hurry back - I don't think there's a post natal thread for knicker checkers is there? Perhaps we should start one.

ashleigh fantastic news about your scan, that pic will be your most precious possession for a little while - I still have mine by the computer and it gives me goosebumps.

tsom · 17/02/2009 21:20

oh dan, she is a little sweetheart

agree with scotlass, your nipples do harden up but get mw/hv/ breast-feeding clinic to check your attachment - I went back to breast-feeding clinic with ds2 even after having bf ds1 for a long time because the first few weeks are the trickiest. Hope you get some sleep soon.

MrsHappy · 17/02/2009 21:36

Dan we haven't "met" before, but I wanted to say well done for producing such a little sweetie. Rose is a lovely name . Don't worry about her feeding every hour and then having a long break - that is her learning to go longer periods which is a good thing IMO. I'd echo what the others said - breastfeeding can be a bit sore, but get your latch checked because it might make all of the difference.

Yay for fantastic scan results ashleigh, gentle and Fozzie. Scotlass I think I was Scaryhairy back then, but I'm not too sure. I was only on here for a couple of weeks until I had a scan at 6 weeks and they told me it was ectopic. Better news today though - there is a bean, it's the right size (2.5mm!!) and it is in my uterus. No yolk yet but we'll get there! I'm booked in for a repeat in 4 weeks and I guess now I am only as high risk as any other pregnancy, which is so flipping great! The consultant said it was encouraging that it was so easy to spot the bean, so fingers crossed!
(I don't normally write with so many exclamation marks, but am very pleased!!!)

HerNameWasLola · 17/02/2009 21:53

Woo hoo MrsHappy! FANTASTIC news Now you can just concentrate on wishing the next 4 weeks away You're right though, you'll get there!

dan I know people say this about all babies but she is sooo beautiful So thrilled for you

Great news too for Ashleigh & Fozzie Has Gentle posted yet? Hope you're ok Gentle if you're lurking

tracyea · 17/02/2009 22:49

Fantastic photos dan - Rose is beautiful and hang in there on the BF - it gets easier...
MrsHappy that's fab news - hang in there.
Still feel sick and eating for England
Gentle - I hope things are OK with you

cece · 17/02/2009 22:54

Dan she is gorgeous.

fab new from all the recent scans.

glimmer · 18/02/2009 02:41

Hi everybody,

Dan - for me Bfing hurt in the beginning a lot, but now I hardly notice it (unless there are teeth involved - but we won't go there..).
But: after the initial toe curler, once the milk was flowing, it was very bearable. Good advice on having the latch checked, but it might not be a latch problem.

Lily - I am very sorry about your news. We had cross-posted and so I replied to Weehlys post but not to yours. Take good care of yourself - that's so frustrating.

Congrats on the good scans of wrigly babies.
I decided to have a nuchal, so my next scan will be in 4 weeks. That will be my next milestone. Morning sickness kicked in - am happy and miserable.

ladyhelen2 · 18/02/2009 12:35

Dan just peeked at your pics. You have the most beautiful little girl. Well done.

I remember BF making me wince in the early days.Me and my ante natal pals called it the ten second wince. Like glimmer said once the milk started flowing it was better.

I have my 28 (although I am now 29+3) week check with the midwife this afternoon. I have a list of q's but most relate to money! The preg in health grant, forms for work, the forms for dental care and prescriptions (lost first one, doh) and ante natal classes. Think I will be in line for the good old anti D jab too which is soooo painful.

We were at the consultants last week for another check and I ended up with a surprise scan. And not only that a surprise 4D scan too so I could see baby's face. Shame DH wasn't there to see it. But I'd taken DS so was delighted he got to see baby on the "special camera that can see in mummy's tummy". DS reckons its a boy and will not hear of the possibility of it being a girl. We haven't found out as I love a surprise.

Glad most of the other scans on here have being going well.

Rachel1963 · 18/02/2009 12:40

Hello everyone, I've been having a bit of a wobble the last few days and need some wise words (or a slap!). I was 16 wks on Monday and can't stop feeling that it's all gone wrong. No particular reason to think so - I haven't had any bleeding or pain and all my scans (3 reassurance and the 12 week one) have shown a baby that's exactly the right size for dates and with a good heartbeat. And I've got a bump which is getting bigger.

BUT I've had 4 mcs, I'm not feeling any movement yet and I'm in that hinterland between scans - my next is due at the end of March and I don't see the midwife for another two weeks (when I'm terrified she won't be able to hear a hb). I know I'm probably being silly but what can I do to stop this? Do I book a private scan for reassurance as DH has suggested or try to adopt a state of zen like calm and take the view that what will be will be??

herbaceous · 18/02/2009 12:56

Rachel - you are me six weeks ago. I too have had four (well, five) miscarriages, and no kids so far, and at that in-between stage you're at was going mad. After the frequent scans of the early weeks, it felt like I'd been dropped like a hot brick. I had to console myself with the thought that it is in fact VERY unlikely to have gone wrong at this stage, and adopt a que sera sera attitude.

I had a MW appointment at 17 weeks, and she couldn't find the heartbeat, which sent me into a frenzy, but it was a bonus in the end - she sent me upstairs for a scan instead, which was gREAT! With luck this will happen to you too!

And don't worry about movements - I didn't feel anything until 18 weeks, and even after that it was erratic. Now nearly 22 weeks, and feel him most days, sometimes quite violently!

ladyhelen2 · 18/02/2009 12:59

SOunds like your DH has the best idea. If you are that worried about it, and it sounds like you are, go and get some reassurance with a private scan.

ashleighbeee · 18/02/2009 13:50

Rachel I think DH is coming up with the best idea! We're having our first NHS scan on Monday 2nd March which is a surprise as midwife said that I wouldnt get one before 20 weeks... I'll be 1 day prior to 15 weeks... then we have booked our sexing scan at 16 weeks 4 days privately on 14th March, but then i dont know what we'll be doing.. I will be in your position until my 20 week scan! I am already worried about it now.. even though i only saw the little gorgeous baby on Friday!

Herb I cant believe you're almost 22 weeks.. I think when i joined you were only 17 weeks or something - thats gone quickly for me although going from my 8 - 13 weeks has not gone so quickly.. although i am sure you think otherwise!

Dan your baby Rose is gorgeous! Congratulations again!

I need some advice/other people's knowledge my trousers are not doing up.. I am only 13 weeks 1 day.. didnt think this would happen yet!! What should I do?? Head straight for the maternity or shop in the 'bigger size' for a little while?? I am a size 10 normally, and i'm not carrying weight anywhere but my tummy.. Anyone help??

Thanks to all for the congratulations on the scan, its such a lovely relief to know that all is ok..

I am nervous about what to expect tomorrow (we're going to see consultant about genetic screening for Albinism)..

Hope you're all having good Wednesdays, sorry if this was a long boring Wednesday post!! xx

ashleighbeee · 18/02/2009 13:51

p.s Rachel the NHS scan is the 1st since my 4 private scans... I forgot to slot that in there..
