oooh, I do love a new thread

OP posts:
glimmer · 13/02/2009 20:46

Oh and congrats, Dan!

Wheelybug · 13/02/2009 21:40

Sorry to hear about the bleeding Lilly - it may be implantation ? Am glad your GP is being pro-active. Good luck for Sunday.

Glimmer - glad all went well. As for it all being real - I still don't always believe I have a 4 year old !!

tsom · 13/02/2009 22:24

lola cross posted - great news about your blood results

wheely yes, I quite like patrick, but not patricia - I have an irish ex-nun step aunt called this, so enough said

winemakesmummyclever · 14/02/2009 12:15

lily - try to stay positive. It looks as though you have a great GP - so many of us don't and have to fight for scans or sit things out not knowing what is happening. good luck!

Tsom - you could always go for an Irish-themed name rather than the v obvious Patrick (though I like it), not keen on Patricia either. If this lo had been she would have been either Niamh or Saoirse. Never get to use them now - def stopping after this lo.

glimmer - great scan news! Keep up the good work!

CS just 3 days away - getting quite excited now and cannot quite believe have got here safe and sound. Still have worries that something will go wrong, but trying to keep them at the back of my mind.

LoobyLou36 · 14/02/2009 15:23

try to stay positive lily everything crossed for you

HerNameWasLola · 14/02/2009 18:29

Thanks so much for all the good wishes

Lily am thinking of you, hope you're doing ok. You're right you probably won't see a hb this early if you have a scan, but if you see a yolk sack in the right place etc with no obvious cause for the bleeding it could still be reassuring. Are you going to go? Will be thinking of you.

WMMC 3 days to go!!!!!! FANTASTIC! How you feeling? Am loving the cupcakes before lunch philospohy Great to see you posting without having to talk about work Are you done now? PLEASE don't put work in your hospital bag, so not worth it!

Glimmer you probably won't remember me. I have name changed though, I forgot about that I was kate 2179. Hope things go more smoothly for you this time round A friend of ours had pre-eclampsia so badly with her first they couldn't do an EMCS for a while, but second time round she was absolutely fine - went to term and beyond! She was booked in for her CS, went in and they looked at her and said 'hmmm... think baby looks quite happy in there still. Maybe we'll leave it another week' If that doesn't raise your BP I don't know what will but she was fine, they now have a lovely DS, my DH's godson Your consultant sounds great btw, so important to have the support of someone you feel you can trust

We went out for a posh lunch today for V-Day And I actually enjoyed the food Twas great. Now at home about to snuffle through my mum's homemade carrot cake I went to Blooming Marvellous before lunch (feeling like a big fat phoney) and bought some mat jeans in the sale and a top. Not saying I ate a lot for lunch, but I had to go and change into the jeans in the loos after the starter Still scared of buying things, that's when it all started to go wrong last time, but I think I just need to get over it. Going to order a heap of stuff from the Next Directory to get the most of the £3.95 delivery charge, I'll probably end up sending it all back, but trying a load of stuff on might give me a few more ideas about what I'd like/not hate...

Sydney my extra anomoly scan will be on 9th March, I guess yours will be about 3 weeks after that? Are you getting good care from your consultant? Do they think you were just terribly unlucky last time? Really hope things go very differently for us both this time round.

DH and I were talking about whether we can afford a holiday (ie 10 days in the sun) before LO is born (am thinking positive right now ) We can't really go before the first week in June when I should be 28 weeks (DH works with my dad and my parents are going away for basically the whole of May ) What do you wise ladies reckon? Is that too late? Will I hate the heat by then anyway? Am normally a bit of a lizard And more importantly, will I be able to use sun screen and insect repellant or do they have too many horrid chemicals in?

Hope everyone's having a stress free weekend

Wheelybug · 14/02/2009 18:38

Lilly - hope tomorrow goes ok.

WMMC - 3 days to go, how exciting - are you going to let DH update us or will we have to wait until you're out ?

lillylivered · 14/02/2009 22:08

Thanks again ladies for the positive messages and sorry for not being more sociable about everyone's comments...

I've decided not to go for the scan tomorrow. Still bleeding properly and know in my heart that it's a MC, I also have no pg symptoms. I've agreed to wait til bleeding stops and then test again just to be sure everything's gone.

You're right, I was so lucky to be able to get the offer of a prompt scan at 5 weeks and at the weekend too! I made sure I cancelled it so that another lady can have the appointment.

It was nice hanging out with you all if only for a day!

Hopefully see you again soon. I start my clomid next cycle xx

HerNameWasLola · 14/02/2009 22:58

Lilly
You must just do whatever's right for you, and it sounds like you know what that is. Am sure you already know this, but bear in mind that the hormones hang around in urine longer than anywhere else (iykwim - can't think of a nice way to say that, sorry ) so you may still get a positive test after you POAS even if everything has gone as you suspect it will. It may have to be a blood test for you to really know Although if your GP is as efficient as it sounds you should be able to get the results the same day if the take the bloods in a morning. Take care of yourself. xx

MrsHappy · 15/02/2009 10:03

May I join you?

I am 4+2 and am very nervous, having had 2 ectopics and a CP last year. I have today made the fear even worse by peeing on one of those fancy-schmancy tests with the conception indicator. It said "pregnant 1-2 weeks" instead of "2-3 weeks" so now I am worried my HCG is not behaving normally. Although I have read that CB admit these tests are only 76% accurate in the 2-3 week phase, but that doesn't stop me worrying and wondering why I can't manage a straightforward pregnancy anymore... The irony is that I am always telling women on the conception pages not to put too much store in these tests (having seen how doctors won't often say anything definitive based on one blood HCG test!) but I guess it is hard to practice what I preach.

To make matters worse, every twinge is, of course, another ectopic and not just normal (in my head anyway).

I am going to try to get a scan at 5+3 to see if the pregnancy is in the right place. I'm flying overseas for 2 weeks when I hit 6 weeks so I need to know this is not ectopic, as my insurance will never pay up if it is and I run up foreign medical bills. I know that the scan won't tell me if the pregnancy is viable, but obviously my main concern is its location. Am I right in thinking that at 5+3 they should at least see a gestational sac?

Lilly I was sorry to see your news. I hope you're as ok as you can be.

There are some familiar names on here that I remember from last September (not sure whether I was using this posting name then, though). Scotlass I think I remember you and it is lovely to see that your pregnancy is still progressing as it should.

Fozzie78 · 15/02/2009 17:54

Hi MrsHappy congratulations and I hope things go well for you.

I had a scan at 5+4 and they seen the sac only but they confirmed measurments were all normal and correct so it does ease your mind a little. I then went on to have a scan at just over 7wks where I seen a HB. Good luck and keep us updated.

hernamewaslola great news on blood results.

glimmer congrats on positive scan.

lilly sorry to hear you're having a hard time I hope everything works out xxxx

Hope everyone else is okay

My 12 wk scan is tomorrow a/noon and im so scared it may all have gone wrong. I've had sickness all day every day, so tired and no more bleeding and not forgetting my unbeliveably sore boobs. I just keep hoping this is positive news. What am I to expect at the 12 week scan? I've never made it this far before, is it similar to an early scan? xx

cece · 15/02/2009 18:00

H4ello all,

Been off line for a week and it feels like an age!

Congratulations to Dan and the Dan family.

Mrs Happy - Those clearblue tests. Mine came out 1-2 weeks when it should have been 2-3/3-4 weeks (can't quite remember which). Anyway I will be 27 weeks tomorrow so try to remail calm.

Hello to all the other newbies - anyone heard from joyfuleyes lately?

HerNameWasLola · 15/02/2009 18:19

Good luck tomorrow Fozzie! No reason to think everything won't be ok PMA (easier said than done I know) Exactly what your 12 week scan is like will depend on whether it's going to include a nuchal? If not it'll be pretty much exactly like your early scan ime, although the docs will be able to see and to show you a bit more detail which is great. They should be able to point out skull bones, stomach, bladder, arms, legs, feet etc. Pretty incredible given that your LO will probably be only about 5.5cm long! If they're doing the nuchal they'll also measure the thickness of the fluid at the back of the baby's neck, which will mean your LO will need to co-operate by getting into the right position! This can take a while. And you might have to give a blood sample. Don't know what others think but my top tip is to have a chocolate bar on the way to the scan (if you can face it!) I knew I'd feel more reassured if my LO was bouncing around (Thomas was quite still at 12 weeks and I just want this pg to be as different as possible from the last one) Babies react to sugar, caffeine etc. Don't know if it was just a coincidence, but baby was leaping around all over the place which was great. Consultant said that while you can't say for sure it's a good sign if they're active, it certainly isn't a bad one See what the wise ladies of this thread think about it, I may well be speaking rubbish! Good luck tomorrow though, will be keeping everything crossed for you

MrsHappy Welcome, and STEP AWAY FROM THE TESTS!! Though it sounds like you already know that! I think those fancy new tests should come with a mental health warning, I got one free from MN and haven't used it for the exact reason you describe. Please try not to worry about it (if only it were that easy ) there are so many things that could affect what it said - how hydrated you were and whether implantation was delayed slightly being only 2 of many! I haven't had a scan as early as 5+3 so I'm not sure what they'll see, but Fozzie said she saw a sack at 5+4 so hopefully you should be able to get the reassurance you need before you go away

sydneysuze · 15/02/2009 18:56

Hi Happy and congratulations! Try not to worry re test - I'm pretty sure the Clearblue ones date you from actual conception, whereas docs all measure from LMP, so it's actually bang on if the test says 1-2 weeks and your LMP was 4 weeks 2 days ago.

Lily I was so sorry to hear your news but are you sure you don't want the scan? I had bleeding, cramps and clots (sorry if TMI!) at just under 6 weeks with this one, was convinced I'd miscarried but my little monkey is still hanging on in there and fingers crossed I'll be 10 weeks on Tuesday.

Fozzie78 · 15/02/2009 19:10

Thanks for the info and advice HerNameWasLola I will try that with the choc bar xx

Wheelybug · 15/02/2009 19:47

Lilly - take care - thinking of you.

Welcome Mrshappy - it shows how long I've been pregnant, those new fangled clearblue tests weren't available when I got a BFP (makes me sound like an elephant... admittedly I feel like one !).

Good luck with the scan Fozzie - let us know how it goes when you can.

Nice to see you Cece - 27 weeks !! Am pleased all is progressing well.

DH and I have been doing loads of house sorting and baby stuff sorting this weekend so feel like we're almost ready for the baby to come. My parents are coming up next week to help get the nursery furniture/cot out and up and move some other bits around. I have a big 'to do' list but as soon as I strike one thing off it I add another 2 !!

Gentle · 16/02/2009 09:53

Hi everyone, sorry I've not been around much, have found it easier to avoid the whole subject.

Good news is that my 93,725 toilet checks since December have all been clear and I am having my 12 week scan later this afternoon. I can't believe it's finally happening, feels like it really is too good to be true and the sonographer is probably going to tell me I've imagined the whole thing!

Any advice on how to not go completely doolally in the waiting room would also be very welcome.

Also morning sickness stopped a few days ago. I know from past pregnancies that this is normal at this time, but I have been relying on it to reassure me that I'm still pregnant.

Love to everyone here whatever stage you're at.

Gentle · 16/02/2009 10:00

Hey Fozzie, not only are you named after my favourite Muppet but it seems we both have our 12 week scans today - I will be thinking of you, it's kind of nice to know of someone else out there in the same boat.

I think others have given lots of good advice but I would also remind you that the sonographer often doesn't let you see the screen to start off with - it doesn't necessarily mean anything's wrong, it usually just means that they want to find the baby first before turning the screen to face you. The point is not to start off by scaring you with an empty screen!

GOOD LUCK! Ask all the questions you want to and let us know how it goes!

bunnyinheadlights · 16/02/2009 10:50

wmmc one more day to go!! how excited are you? good luck for tomorrow and we look forward to hearing all about it!!

lola great news on blood tests as well - phew! what a relief! you must be feeling a weight off your shoulders. i know you have another scan coming up soon and i know you will naturally be nervous given what you experienced with Thomas, but do try to enjoy the next few weeks. i look back and see that i spent most of my pg in fear and hardly took time to enjoy, so that is one regret (tho it Is hard to relax). i think doing a huge shop at next maternity is a fab way to start tho

sorry lily to hear your news. will your gp refer to you to further tests after this? take care of yourself.

good luck to all who have 12 week scans comng up - fozzie, gentle.

ps question - any ladies bothering to have a bikini wax/shave down under before birth? i havent seen mine since who knows when and am quite afraid of the state of affairs...

Fozzie78 · 16/02/2009 12:16

Hi gentle good luck for your scan too, mine isnt until 3.30 so I will be on later to let you all know.
Thanks for the advice and support ladies xx

grinningbee · 16/02/2009 12:35

There I was saying I'd post more regularly...

I must go back and read what I've missed!

Little update - I had the first growth scan a fortnight ago today where it turned out that nipper was a blinking good size (4.5 pounds at 32 + 4) but I hardly had any fluid around her. Cue much panic from me, not to mention prodding and poking from consultant and student. They couldn't work out why I was measuring 38 weeks at that point.

I thought I was then going into labour on the Thursday night as I had horrific period pains, but it wasn't (oh, wishful thinking!).

Further scan last Monday showed the fluid was back up again but I have a big fibroid which the sonographer referred to as "Freddy Fibroid". She was lovely! She even confirmed that nipper is a girl by pointing out the girl bits, which do now look recognisable. Freddy is about 8cm across and the same deep, but out of the way under my ribs...

So.... maybe that's why I'm measuring so big, and it's nothing to do with hot cross buns or scones...

I have the most fab scan picture of her face now, she looks quite chubby and seems to like pouting for the camera. I just don't know how to put the pic on my profile though.

Ok, off to catch up now on everyones news!

Diji · 16/02/2009 13:55

Hey everyone,
Trust you are all well? I have been awol for a while due to being really busy at work.
Went for my 23 week scan today. All is doing very well. Doc commented on how big the baby is and how well endowed he is. So without realising it, she told us we are expecting a boy. Dh let out a loud hoorah, and then slinkered away into the corner. We just laughed. It was an amazing feeling seeing our precious little miracle on the monitor.
Baby has been very active, and I am really battling to sleep at night. Have tried pillows and changing positions etc.... but nothing helps. But it is so fantastic becuse it is reassuring that he is okay and healthy.
Hang in there ladies, i am still nervous because of my history, but as each day goes by, I know that everything is going to be fine. Trust your instincts, they will never be wrong. Hugs to all....

ladyhelen2 · 16/02/2009 14:03

bunny re your q about waxing! I had a bikini and half leg wax before the birth of DS. Am glad I did really. This time will do the same, plus a pedicure, eyebrow shape and eyelash tint too. May as well go the whole hog.

Hope everyone's scans today/this week go well.

grinningbee · 16/02/2009 14:40

Blimey - took two hours to read what I'd missed!

Huge congrats to DBNO & Dan!!

I'd like to order a birth like DBNO's please.

Fozzie78 · 16/02/2009 17:23
