Sazstar · 10/02/2009 16:42

Just been to the docs this morning with hubby in tow (couldn't face going on my own as I didn't think I would remember what questions to ask and seem to be on the edge of teary all the time). According to the docs calcs I am 5 wks 2 days pregnant - yeay (wasn't really a suprise as such as I had already done 3 home tests over the last week and a bit - not that I am paranoid). Discovered a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks back in November when embryo was 6wks 4 days. Just hoping this time that things all go well, but because I didn't know last time (still had all pg symptoms)it will be difficult to not over-analyse everything.

I haven't been sick yet which was really gnawing at me, but am glad that the docs confirmed that I was actually a couple of weeks behind where I was the first time when I went to see them. I had completely lost track of time so was 6 and a bit weeks when I went to see them because I had started to be sick (especially first thing in the morning in the shower - the shampoo had a nasty effect on me!!!).

All I can say is bring on the vom so I can feel more preggo and more like things are happening, but in the meantime am trying to keep my chin up and keep happy. Hubby is also trying really hard to be as excited as last time, but in a low key manner!

Currently weighing up whether to push for an early scan this time to check I am past the 8 wk mark (don't want to wait until 12 though) although I know there are no guarantees. In the meantime I am going to continue wishing to puke each morning when I wash my hair as a sure sign of things progressing and also keep checking the old knix whilst saying to myself "Still there!"

Am glad that you guys can have a sense of humour with stuff that is pretty horrid physically and extremely emotional. When I went through the medical method for my mmc I ended up doing star jumps to speed things up because foetus wasn't shifting and I desperately wanted to go home which had my hubby giggling. Just couldnt face going home to face the final bit of the process without the nurses (especially as they said I would have to keep the pieces so that they could be examined). The nurses were absolutely fabulous, but I don't know how they do their job day in day out.

Anyhow, glad to be able to post here so soon. Can't believe I have been so lucky again in conceiving fairly quickly, but v. nervous about the next 5-10 weeks.

Anyone got any good diversionary tactics to share?

SparkyMalarky · 10/02/2009 17:00

dan......is the baby here? Hope you're all doing ok.....

Lola - lovely news...will keep fingers crossed for your bloods, but sounds hopeful.

scotlass - dodgy tummy could be PG related, mine seems to be up and down, but there's lots of horrible bugs down south...maybe they're migrating with the snow!

tracey - can't believe your incredibly insensitive GP! - as sydney says, can you go and see someone else?

mumface - at still being stuck in the cold and with the vommy bug too.....hope you're feeling better and ex DH not getting you down

sazstar...diversionary tactics.....will see what we come up with. Medical management sounds grim - am glad I wasn't given that option (it was wait and see or an ERPC, so I opted for the latter). Lots of us on here had early scans - looking at the earlier threads should give you an idea of when we all went....

How's everyone else? and our new mummy DBNO - you ok?!!

downbutnotout · 10/02/2009 18:02

Hello and thanks for all the good wishes! I?m absolutely knackered but a very proud mum to a beautiful (if slightly lumpy) baby boy. The cyst does not look so alarming now it is out in the open and his skin is not at all discoloured.

And now for the full details. At 41+2 I was really fed up and couldn?t face the thought of yet another trip to the shops/school with everyone asking: ?You still here?? So i had a sweep booked for the Wednesday morning. However, I woke at 5.00am on Tuesday morning with what felt distinctly like contractions. I got out of bed and headed downstairs to watch some telly and see if things progressed. The contractions continued all morning, not really getting any stronger or closer together, so I wondered if this could really be it. But at about 1ish I suddenly had a strong feeling that I needed to be where I was going to give birth. We arrived at the hospital at 1.40 where a lovely midwife read my birth plan (and followed it to the letter, I might add). I was hooked up to the monitors for 20 mins and then an internal exam at 2.20pm confirmed i was 4cm dilated. The midwife left, saying she would come back in 4 hours to see how I was progressing. In the meantime, I carried on with my relaxation breathing then suddenly felt like an urge to go the toilet. The contractions suddenly intensified as I shuttled back and forth from the toilet a few times then at 3.00pm my waters broke all over the floor. The contractions ramped to an eye-popping intensity, the midwives were hurriedly called and ds popped out twelve minutes later. I had a very shocked expression for about an hour, but recovered enough to ask for tea and toast before delivering the placenta naturally!

It was a bit of an eye-watering experience but ds and I got the best start, having had no interventions or pain relief. DS is a great feeder and is generally pretty placid. He needs to sleep more at night, but I?m sure that?ll come in time. I?ve had a few wobbles with the baby blues but I think it will be OK in the end.

Sorry for all the me me me stuff, but I hope you?ll excuse me under the circs ? after 3 years and 3 mcs, this is a great place to be!

Wheelybug · 10/02/2009 18:19

Aw DBNO - Thanks for sharing that. It bought tears to my eyes esp. the 'after 3 years....'. I too will be coming up to 3 years from starting to conceive DC2 and can't believe it should be happening.

I'm so pleased all went well and here's hoping he gets his night and day round the right way soon. Are you publishing his name ? (don't worry if not, just being nosey !).

Hi Sazstar - hope the sickness starts soon !!

Dan ??? Where are you ??? Hope all is going ok.

LoobyLou36 · 10/02/2009 21:02

congrats again dbno nice to hear the details

any word on dan?

scotlass · 10/02/2009 21:27

Aww, dbno you just made me cry (in a good way though ) I?m so glad you had a lovely birth, it sounded so calm. It?s amazing to hear about a fabulous outcome after all that heartache.

sparky I?m wondering if tummy bug is being brought up from down south by DH, thankfully it?s been a lot better today, I think it must be pg related, I?m glad bunny and wheely have had it too ? not so you both suffer but it makes me feel less worried.

lola brilliant news about your scan, it sounds really positive. Fingers and toes crossed but it sounds like it?ll be good news.

tracey WTF???? your GP sounds like a complete dickhead!! Most pg end in mc (em?1 in 4 means 3 quarters don?t). You?re too early for sickness isn?t that sometimes the first symptom apart from a missed af some women have? And as for should I congratulate you, yes you bloody well should cos it?s the first tentative step towards getting something you?ve obviously been trying for. DO NOT GO BACK TO SEE HIM, find someone who?ll think before they speak.

mumface you poor soul still without heating and winter vomiting. I?m glad your mum has helped out a bit and sounds like your ex also could do with some sensitivity lessons! Glad the baby is active for you?.. it definitely helps to be reminded there?s a jumping bean in there.

sazstar congratulations, diversionary tactics ? LOL, one word? mumsnet ? this thread is such a roller coaster it helped me to realise there are other people out there trying to get through each day dealing with the same worries and woes as I was. I just willed each week by and am trying to take heart as I pass a new milestone. The fact that they?re all also raving loonies on here has also helped

dan I?m getting really worried, I hope everything?s OK ? not that I?m stalking you or anything but it?s been 3 days and it feels weird not having you around. Hopefully you?ve just been busy having a baby.

30 wks today?. , it feels like a huge milestone. DH wants to go away (just in the caravan) the week before I?m due, school easter hols. What do you reckon ? are we mental?? I figured an hour and a half away from home tops might be ok.

tsom · 10/02/2009 22:03

dbno lovely birth story - glad it all went well

dan I expect you are busy with babe and have decided against giving dh your log-in details to keep us up to date, in case he reads back through the thread

herb yeah that is a weird nipple symptom, ?related to oxytocin release - the milk of human kindness hormone

scotlass caravan at 39 weeks

mumface hope things get a bit easier for you soon

have had a sudden and very out of character urge to clean the kitchen tonight, bit early for this at 34 (?32 weeks), dh is hoping I get round to cleaning the oven before going into labour

made choc eclairs with peruvian dark choc tonight, oh yum, felt a bit sick afterwards

bunnyinheadlights · 11/02/2009 11:45

dbno what a great story - like the others, brought a lump in my throat - it's so fantastic to hear of success stories after so much gloom of the 3 mcs. i bet you are cuddling ds extra hard! congrats again

lola fantastic news on scan. all things crossed for the blood results - breathe breathe breathe- it all looks positive

had a bit of a panicky day yesterday - thought i started having contractions and spent most of day and night in hospital. they could see mild contractions on the monitor but not enough to do anything (ie they didnt want to give me a c section as it's still early if i am not in full labour) and as i wasnt in full labour they sent me home in the end! very confused. pains are coming and going but less strong than yesterday. has anyone had /heard of this before? ie a "false" labour? is it realistic to think i would be able to hang in there until c section date in 12 days (i am now 38 weeks).

well at least the hospital bag has had its dry run and dh and i concluded that it's got way too little in terms of food!! going to stock up on that.

sorry for the me post...

tracyea · 11/02/2009 11:59

Morning all
dbno thankyou for sharing - it's lovely to here that people do get out the other side of this with a gorgeous babe.
Proper in the loo sick this morning so yah boo sucks to my GP. Thankyou so much to all of you for your support about my crap GP - you all cheered me up immensely!
Scotlas - caravan at 39 weeks?? Are you insane?? You won't be able to sleep properly in a real bed by then never mind on a caravan mattress! Everyime you change position it will be like turning the bloody titanic!
Mumsface your ex sounds like a complete dick! I'm really sorry you are having such a rough time - it's good that you have your mum for support.

robberbutton · 11/02/2009 12:09

7 weeks today

tracyea can't believe about your GP either . Definitely ask to see another one next time.

mumface so sorry you're having a rough time, hope you all get better soon.

DBNO congratulations on what sounds like a great birth experience! Thank you for sharing, and good luck with the sleeping (11 months down the line with DD and we still haven't cracked it!).

ladyhelen2 · 11/02/2009 12:29

dbno thanks for posting your update. Sounds like a text book labour and delivery to me! Hope mine goes like that.

Well done.

Have I missed it, but do you have a name for him?

Wheelybug · 11/02/2009 13:42

Afternoon all. Still no word from Dan ?? Hope she's just too busy with LO to worry about us internet freaks friends.

Bunny - I had a friend who had contractions on and off from about 35/6 weeks only to go 12 days overdue. Also one of my NCT lot with dd had really early labour start (30 weeks) only to go overdue. That said, if you're already 38 weeks you're term so if you do go into labour and they do the c-sec it should all be fine (dd was a 37 week c-sec). Not long to go whichever !!

Scotlass - I'm afraid I'm with the others to say no to a caravan at 38 weeks, although you may be used to it but at almost 36 weeks its enough trouble sleeping in a bed !!

ashleighbeee · 12/02/2009 11:23

Good morning all,

Congratulations DBNO Thank you for sharing your story very happy to hear it all...

Nothing from Dan still? has she had that baby yet?

Tracyea boo to your GP, what a big idiot!! urgh i'd pay no attention to him and see someone either at the same surgery or move else where...

lola fantastic news on scan..

mumface try not to worry about ex DH too much, another silly plonker..

I had my first midwife appointment this morning at 12 weeks 2 days... we have been reffered for chromosomal testing as partner's brother is albino... luckily is testing on me and partner not on baby to see the liklihood of the baby being born with the condition... Not being offered a scan on the NHS until 20 weeks... We're off to our little cosy private clinic tomorrow for private 12 week scan which im over the moon about... wish us luck..

Off work tomorrow so will update on Monday.. hope everyone has good weekend. xx

valz · 12/02/2009 13:45

Hi all,

just back from my first ante natel scan, im 13+3, all seems to be well which is good, babies measuring as they should however i was a bit dissappointed with the dr. any of my earlier scans i had lovely bubbly midwifes all chatting away and i suppose making me feel welcome. this doc was such a dry arse, absolutely no criac out of her or her two assistants, i could see the babies moving about and i know they measured fine, but i expected her to montior their heart rates to make sure they were ok. there was an awful airy silence in the room and it just wasnt very pleasant, its so apparent now why some people have great experiences in a hospital while others have shite experiences, its all in the staff. i was offered the big scan between 20-24 weeks which i accepted so it is in 11 weeks time, i will be 24 weeks by then. i then have another scan at 28 weeks which im very surprised at as ive read with twins you get monitored more often and had i refused the big 24 week scan i wouldnt be seen again for 15 weeks which seems an awful long time. does anyone know is it just in the last few weeks of pregnancy you are seen more often if having twins? anyhu, i suppose i should be just greatful all seems well with the babies.

hope you are all doing well, notice dan is still awol, fingers crossed all is good with her.

Wheelybug · 12/02/2009 15:17

Valz - a friend of mine is pregnant with twins and is about 28 weeks - she's had the same level of appointments/care as with a single which I was surprised at too. I expect it'll start stepping up in the last trimester.

Good luck with the scan Ashleigh. What are the implications (if you don't mind me asking) of albino-ism (if thats the right term ?) other than the obvious ??

Definitely worrying about Dan now...

I've had an interesting 24 hours. I started monitoring my blood pressure at home this week as I was getting a bit nervous as this is when it went up with dd. Yesterday lunch time it was fine and then in the late afternoon (don't normally take it twice) it was on the limit of acceptable. So of course, I kept taking it and it remained high. Decided to sleep on it and check again in the morning. Didn't sleep very well - still high this morning. Rang DAU to ask if I could leave it until my consultant appt tomorrow to be told I should go and get it checked. Got there and BP absolutely fine so a relief there but then they tested my urine and I had +1 protein. So, sample is being sent to the lab for further testing and then they'll run all the checks again tomorrow at hte consultant clinic. So, baby wheelybug may be making an earlier appearance than we'd hope. I am 36 weeks tomorrow but would really like to get to at least 37 as that's when dd was born and I know there were no issues and also its half term next week so it wouldn't be very convenient to be in hospital !!

So, I nervously await tomorrow (actually can phone up in a bit for some of the results - don't know whether too or just leave it until tomorrow...).

glimmer · 12/02/2009 16:59

Hello everybody.

bunnyinheadlights · 12/02/2009 17:03

wheely hello - thanks for stories of your friends. i've had chats with some rl friends who also know of the same, so a little less worried. re your blood pressure - that;s good that the bp was fine when tested at doctors. do you think your home test gives a correct reading? not fun to have to worry. i also had protein in my wee on tuesday so am on a course of antibiotics even though they dont really know whether it's uti or not but as a precaution. am trying to hang on as long as possible (just need to get stuff in order) - so i know what you mean when you say that you would like to hang on at least one more week! i cant remember if you know whether baby wheely is a girl or boy?

valz some doctors can be so insensitive! at least you are measuring right for dates and you could see two heartbeats - that's always great isnt it?

ashleigh good luck with scan tomorrow.

dan where are youuuu?

glimmer · 12/02/2009 17:04

May I join again? I am currently 6+4 week pregnant and hope to have a viability scan today.

My first pregnancy ended as mmc@12 weeks, my second resulted in wonderful DS (14 months).

Wheelybug - sorry to hear about your BF. I developed pre-eclampsia in my last pregnancy, so know what you are talking about.
There is a strong daily cycle to BP - it's high during the day and drops at night. So it's best to measure it at the same time of the day (I would do it at night before going to bed :-) ) Also, they can do a 24h urin test, because it is the average protein per day that's important to monitor, not a single event.

I hope all goes well - it's great that you are so cautious.

Wheelybug · 12/02/2009 17:12

Hi and welcome Glimmer - here's wishing you a long and happy stay here !

Hi Bunny - its possible the home one isn't as accurate although it was measuring ok at the start of the week. I am going to discuss it with the doctor tomorrow to see whether they think its worth me continuing wiht it or not. Good news though, I rang about the wee results and the level of protein has come back as 11.1 (and they said 30 was where they started to worry !). So all fine. I have since googled and found that protein in urine can be caused by not enough fluid and I am terrible at not drinking enough and I had gone up the hospital without having a drink this morning so maybe I only have myself to blame. Will start drinking lots.

winemakesmummyclever · 12/02/2009 18:49

Evening all - just a quickie to mark the thread.

dan - hope everything is ok with you and yours and you are busy settling into family life. Update whenever you feel ready .

mumface - hope the heating is fixed - brrr!

glimmer - congrats & welcome to you!

Wheely - hope you are ok - remember to use the same arm each time & same position (i.e. sitting or standing) too - it can vary immensely.

bunny - hope things have settled down for you. Am sure they will keep a close eye on you

dan39 · 12/02/2009 19:38

Rose arrived on Tuesday afternoon. 7lb 10oz, section after lengthy labour so no HB. Still in hosp - tired and sore, but she's gorgeous! Details and pics when home - DH was marvellous, but is also writing this.

Wheelybug · 12/02/2009 19:54

Hurrah ! Congratulations Dan - Sorry labour didn't turn out as you'd hoped but you have Rose which is all that matters. Hope you're both doing ok. LOL at DH. Lovely name too !!

ladyhelen2 · 12/02/2009 20:01

oh dan and mr dan so happy for you. We've all been on the edge of our seats here waiting for news. Glad all ok and your little Rose arrived safely.

mumface · 12/02/2009 20:18

What a relief, well done dan!
