oooh, I do love a new thread

OP posts:
dan39 · 07/02/2009 19:32

wmmc flip flops for the shower too...

Ladyh I am trying to book reflexology in the village as worried about snow getting in the way of getting into town, the woman who was gonna do it cancelled due to shingles!! Hoping to get reflexology or acupuncture booked for this week. However, having read loads on induction etc, it seems that if its not ready its not ready and DIY induction is not a million miles from chemical/hospital medical induction, in a way (except for the maybe not working bit!) So I am trying to chill and enjoy my freedom. Just wish it wasn't so uncomfy at this stage!

Welcome newbies too - wishing you a long and uneventful stay!

tsom · 07/02/2009 22:41

herby would second recommendation for lanosin (also not sure of sp) nipple cream, when I had ds2 4 years ago I had to order it specially from the chemist but now john lewis, mothercare etc have it on the shelf

had forgotten about packing such things as breast pads, have a very half packed bag on the landing, nothing for baby in there yet expect wipes and nappies, think I am still in denial

ds1 whining last night as potatoes were boiled and not roasted (I ask you), dh walked in from work and pulled his face when heard it was fish for dinner - got my full "don't you start" fury. Almost felt sorry for him when I calmed down a bit. Nah, he probably deserved it

tsom · 07/02/2009 22:49

Am going to buy some cheap slippers for hospital bag and throw them away afterwards in case they are covered with mrsa etc and so not walk it over carpets at home. Yuck

dan39 · 08/02/2009 12:40

So I was really crampy last night and found it really hard to sit down - pressure on my fanjo - that's gotta be a good sign hasn't it? Still crampy waves today - wonder if I should go for a walk? Tempt fate?

SparkyMalarky · 08/02/2009 14:07

get walking Dan....and keep us posted (DH does know he's to keep us updated?! )

Hi to all the newbies - I second Dan and wish you all a long and uneventful stay with us here.

All this talk of labour and hospital bags is reminding me this baby will be coming out in 14 weeks......

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 08/02/2009 17:22

Did the walk help Dan ???

Napa - good to see you. Take care of yourself and hope you're back here soon.

WMMC - uni work in your hospital bag . You are so well disciplined - good for you !

HerNameWasLola · 08/02/2009 19:09

Thank you all so much for the lovely welcome

Dan sounds really promising! Good luck!!

Bunny lovely to see you again

wmmc fantastic hospital bag list! Because I am an old saddo, I have cut & pasted it into a word doc in case I am ever in a position to be needing such a bag Loving the flip flops tip too Dan! I have a bit of a thing about showers so that could be pretty essential for me!

Sydney I know exactly what you mean about the love/hate relationship with scans - I need them to (try to) keep me sane(ish) but I HATE going in there. If I didn't have DH with me I'm not sure I'd stay...

We have our next scan at 2pm tomorrow. Should be 11+2 (my dates) or 11+1 (scan dates) The consultant is going to do the nuchal if LO is big enough. Am terrified, but want to get on with it. This is such a big hurdle for us, I just hope it's one we can overcome... Will let you all know how it goes. I'm guessing the few days between having the scan and the bloods taken and waiting for the results will be amongst the hardest in the pg...

Sorry to have forgotten so many people in this post, didn't sleep much last night (I wonder why ) and brain has turned even more mushy than normal. Promise will try harder next time

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend

winemakesmummyclever · 08/02/2009 20:38

dan - anything?!?! When I went into labour with ds, I remember it felt just like bad period pain, until it started getting worse of course .

I intend to snaffle a pair of pillowpaws (sexy foam hospital slippers) for the shower. Will no doubt look so sexy in my Ted stockings, oversized nightshirt and bright green foam slippers, trundling gingerly off to the bathroom .

lola - don't forget though that I am having a cs so won't have the labour bag that most women prep (although I didn't do that last time either). Hope all goes well with the scan tomorrow afternoon - will be thinking of you.

Anyway, have to finish an essay as it is due in tomorrow (e-submission thank god, couldn't waddle to uni to save my life!) and still a pile of twaddle

Have a good evening all. Hope everyone is well and good luck to anyone who has appointments/scans this week. Take care of yourselves .

tracyea · 08/02/2009 22:06

Hi everyone
I dont seem to have time to come on MN until the DCs are in bed!!
Ladyhelen did you go to see the VM in Nottingham? I went on Friday night too - funny but also sad I thought.
Lola good luck tomorrow - everything crossed and please let us know how you get on.
Dan are you still walking???? Or are you good to go???
talk soon

tsom · 09/02/2009 11:26

hmm.. silence from dan - update when you're able please

Wheelybug · 09/02/2009 14:42

lola - hope the scan went ok.

Dan ??????????????

ladyhelen2 · 09/02/2009 14:47

tracy yes it was Notts I saw the VM's. A couple of very poignant bits I thought. I did laugh at other bits but I think my expectations were very high, hence my pelvic floor wasn't troubled too much.

dan we're all dying for an update here. Put us out of our misery! But do hope all is well. xx

downbutnotout · 09/02/2009 15:33

Hi - no sign of dan?

Welcome to newbies! I am still getting to grips with motherhood again but will be back to swap birthing stories when dan's time comes...Hugs to all in the meantime!

herbaceous · 09/02/2009 16:29

Thanks for the nipple recommendations ladies - the foot cream is working for the moment, but I may need to wheel out the big guns in due course. Another crazy nipple symptom - if they're mildly irritated, by a duvet, or similar, it makes me feel all sad! WTF?

Now then. Baby movements. Last week, especially Friday, C was leaping about all over the shop. Then quite quiet over the weekend, now pretty lively. Is this normal? I'm 20 weeks...

robberbutton · 09/02/2009 17:05

Hi everyone,

still here, yey. Feeling pretty rotten as well. DD (11mos) throwing up all night, I was up between 3 and 5.30am when dh took over! She hasn't thrown up since this morning, is keeping down water and hopefully milk now. Ugh.

herby don't worry about movements too much, it is possible to drive yourself completely mental. I remember thinking that mine hadn't moved for hours and desperately poking and prodding them, and of course they were fine. It's still quite early for you to be feeling movements - enjoy!

Also, you used to have to do a kick chart to tick off when you felt the baby move through out the day, but they stopped doing that as it was not a reliable gauge of how the baby was - all it did was worry poor mums stupid!

Also lots of best wishes to dan where ever she is...

Wheelybug · 09/02/2009 17:27

Herby - quite normal I think. My baby has active days and quiet days and often goes in stints - i.e. 2 days on, 2 days off. Also if you're busy, you're less likely to feel movements (or the baby is likely to sleep more as you rock it to sleep if you are walking lots). Also, I can sit and see the baby moving now it is bigger but still can't actually always feel it even though my stomach looks like something out of Alien !!
Its the next thing to worry about though (and I still do worry about it despite knowing all the above.

Robber - sorry to hear dd is ill.

DBNO - nice to see you, looking forward to hearing all the gory details.

V. little to report here - Am going to pack my bag tomorrow as have to wait in for plumber and dd has a playdate after nursery so I have between 9.30 and 2 ish to get it all done. I might even write my birth plan....

sydneysuze · 09/02/2009 17:40

Hey everyone - just checking in and also wondering how the scan went today dan? Hope you had good news.

I have now had 3 days straight without spotting so am quietly excited as that had been going on since 5 weeks (am 9 weeks tomorrow). Am thinking that all these knicker checking trips must surely count as exercise so it doesn't really matter that I'm much too knackered to do anything like yoga????

sydneysuze · 09/02/2009 17:49

Oops - pregbrain alert! I meant to ask lola how your scan was!!!! Sorry

scotlass · 09/02/2009 19:33

Silence sounds promising ...........dan I hope you're OK and baby girl is here or nearly here.

Had to come home from work today, upset tummy again - this is really weird as it was the other way with DD. Could be pg related???

DD had a lovely day with her granny making a snowman . Was beginning to feel left out with all this talk of snow down soutn.

Am 30wks tomorrow

bunnyinheadlights · 09/02/2009 20:15

dan where are youuuuu? methinks baby must be on her way (if not already here)

lola hope your scan went well was sending good vibes. xx

scotlass 30 weeks! fab isnt it? there has been a weird tummy bug going around, so not sure if that's the cause of upset tummy? tho i have noticed that in the past few weeks, tummy has been runnier than usual (tho not from sickness). sorry for tmi!!

sydney glad to hear that bleeding has let up. dont worry about yoga till later on- just rest rest and be good to yourself - listen to your body if you are knackered, sleep!

dbno tell us your story!

thanks for tips on flip flops for shower - i dont actually remember what i wore the last time around (could be becoz i was high on morphine as had a c section then). but the thought of catching cooties from the showers has sent me fleeing to the nearest shops in search of flip flops (kinda odd when there's still so much snow on the ground!)

HerNameWasLola · 09/02/2009 21:14

Evening lovely ladies

Just a quick one from me tonight as I still have some work to do for tomorrow before I collapse into bed.

The scan went well

Baby appeared to be trying to body pop which made me giggle - s/he kept jumping up and down whilst laying on his/her back - very funny Measured big enough to do the nuchal and consultant was satisfied the measurements should be reliable. In fact from measuring a day small for my dates LO is now measuring 3 days big for dates! (11+5 today when I think I am 11+2 & consultant thinks I am 11+1) The nuchal measurement was 1.1mm which is good (should be on the small side due to dates anyway) so now we just have to wait for the blood results... Should be some time within the next 48-72 hours... not sure I'll have any fingernails left by then. Consultant is going to call me himself either way (i think i love him...) And I'll let you all know when we hear. Please keep everything crossed for us in the mean time... At least we're getting somewhere now...

Am hoping no news is good news from Dan - good luck Dan, wherever you are!

Sydneysuze glad to hear the spotting has stopped Please excuse my dreadful memory but where are you scan-wise? Are they keeping a close eye on you? fab that you're now 9 weeks And knicker checking DEFINITELY counts as exercise, don't you worry

Sorry ladies, gotta go. Bloody work.... Back soon xx

HerNameWasLola · 09/02/2009 21:16

PS forgot to say thank you so much for all the good scan wishes Really does mean a lot, even though I forgot to mention it before... [hangs-head emoticon]

Wheelybug · 10/02/2009 09:32

Good news Lola - good luck for the nuchal results but the measurement sounds pretty good - I think mine was similar and doctors were assuming my risk would be low before the bloods came in (which was a good job because they took 2 weeks to get to me !).

Still no news on Dan - hope all ok....

Sydney - glad the spotting has stopped - fingers crossed for no more.

Scotlass - hope the tummy is improving. I think I've said previously that I've had bouts of it from about 32 weeks so might be hormonal. Congrats on getting to 30 weeks - the next mile stone !!

Right - remember yesterday I said I am going to pack my bags today..... I won't be back on here until they're done (ahem... although leaving computer on and bimbling around the house there's not much chance of me not popping in...).

tracyea · 10/02/2009 13:47

Hello everyone
Coming for a moan...hope that's ok!
Just been to GP-I know it's early 5+6 but next week is half term so I have DC's and I wanted to book in for an early scan after last MC.This is what HE said
"Should I congratulate you???" - has he not been listening for the last 3 years???
"Don't get your hopes up, most pregnancies end in MC" - does he think I don't know that??But surely you are allowed some hope??
"You are too early to have morning/ all day sickness!" - this is my 4th pregnancy don't tell me I don't feel like crap!

Finished moaning now, thanks for listening

Of course good luck Lola

sydneysuze · 10/02/2009 15:01

Hi traceyea is your GP part of a large practice? I'd ask to see a different, maybe female one next time or contact the midwife if she's more understanding. Don't understand why GP's think it's helpful to remind us about the chances of mc - it's not like their warnings make a mc any easier to bear when it does happen so why cause such unnecessary anguish? I'm v on your behalf!

I got an early scan (5.5 weeks) this time by ringing our local Early Preg Unit directly and it definitely helped my peace of mind. And as to the sickness, of course you can feel it this early. Time for a change of GP
