oooh, I do love a new thread

OP posts:
SparkyMalarky · 03/02/2009 13:08

X-posts wheely Enjoy the snow (now I fancy some cake....)

OP posts:
LittlePolly · 03/02/2009 13:27

Thanks wheely and sparky. So I've worked out I must be 5 weeks and 5 days, which is more than I thought.

Sparky, I was told the same as you with my mmc, that the baby stopped growing at about 6 weeks, so this is a really scary time. I think it is probably sensible for me to wait until 8 weeks before trying to get a scan ? an inconclusive one would be awful (specially if we end up having to pay for it). How am I going to stop myself going insane in the next two and a half weeks???! When are you due?

bunnyinheadlights · 03/02/2009 13:40

hello everyone! hope you all enjoyed a fun day in the snow! it was glorious wasn't it? but all the same, glad to be getting back to normal - am terrified that i go into early labour and cant get to hospital due to the roads (or worse, get to hospital and there's no one there as no one could make it in...)

wheely you put me to shame - i am almost 37 weeks and still havent packed my bag! mild panic setting in....have got some dispoable pants from tesco (yeah tesco delivery guy had to drop that one on the floor and then pick it up to give it to me! ). anyone recall which breastpads have a plastic backing to it - i have been wracking my (non existent) memory as to which brand it was. i used those ones with DD and they were the only ones which kept my leaking boobs in check.

daisyj hello - i found that sitting still and drinking or eating something very sweet always gets little bunny to kick. had a scare last friday morngin when i didnt feel movement for a few hours and then ate a huge chocolate donut...bunny went crazy.

herb think you should be safe. earlier on in my pg i ate some raw chicken (dodgy bbq) and panicked for a week about it. body is more resilient than one thinks.

sabs always good to get spotting checked out if you are really worried, for some peace of mind, but i did spot (brown, red, large clots, small clots sorry if tmi) up to 16 weeks and no number of scans could determine where the bleeding was coming from. hope it eases up soon.

scotlass good choice of pram! i got a bugaboo cameleon too! a red one, if you must know. as dan asked what colour did you get? my mamas and papas pliko that i got for DD is just a wreck! what a waste of money that was!

dan any signs of labour yet...??

welcome littlepolly to our mad knicker checking world. you are in good company!

feeling better overall today. must get the rest of my stuff sorted out....

SparkyMalarky · 03/02/2009 13:51

Oooh bunny am jealous of the pram - a red bug! I had a pliko for DS which is trashed but don't know whether to get another single and a buggy board or bite the bullet and get a P&T...DS will be just 3 when newbie arrives - what's your age gap? We also broke the M&P car seat (we're not that careless honestly!)so we need a new one of them too....

Am trying to remember what breast pads I used (it's all glamour isn't it) - I would probably have ordered mine from Ocado with my weekly shop and I don't think they had a huge choice) but am pretty sure they had a plastic backing...there's some new thing now called lily padz? Which I don't understand at all...how do these work?

OP posts:
bunnyinheadlights · 03/02/2009 14:13

hi sparky my m&p pliko also gave me wrist and back problems so i decided to indulge in new buggy. dd's m&p cot also broke after hardly any use - so my conclusion is that although mamas and papas products may look glam and good (and arent cheap!), they are actually of rather shite quality.

dd is 3.5 but we stopped using a buggy for her at 3. got her a scooter instead and she whizzes around on her own with that. she was just getting to heavy to heave around town. not sure if i would bother getting p&t if your ds is already 3. mind you, i bumped into friend with his dd on the weekend and he was still pushing her in a buggy and she's 5 years old...so to each their own i guess? i just havent go the strength myself.

thanks for tips on breast pads - oh yes, the glam part of childbirth...!!

Wheelybug · 03/02/2009 16:15

Back from my traipse in the snow - our pavements are still really covered and a lot of the roads. Then had to play dd's fave new game - hunt the chocolate coin in the snow !!

I had a pliko too with dd and was generally quite happy with it although only used it for the first 8 months or so before going to a lightweight one. Its still in pretty good condition so I intend to use it for the first couple of months in pram mode and then my brother has given me a 3 wheeler air tyre out and about nipper thing which I'll probably then use. I want it mainly for exercise but think it'll be nicer pushing something with air tyres (until i get a puncture). DD is 4 and she stopped using a buggy at about 2.5 so have escaped the double buggy trauma. All my friends though with P&T's think they're the bees knees. I think it probably depends how much walking you do Sparky. A friend of mine got when her ds was 3.4 and although a good walker she had to walk him up to a child minder at 7.30 in the morning and found it invaluable.

Bunny - I am under strict orders from DH to have bag packed by 35 weeks (friday) as I was admitted to hospital at 37 weeks last time (and dd delivered shortly after) and he had to sort out my bags which he found rather stressful ! I popped into boots whilst out and got a few more bits (although they'd sold out of maternity pads !! Might do an online grocery shop to include them ...)

Right I so hope life is back to normal tomorrow - I have spent too much time on here today. Tsk tsk.

tracyea · 03/02/2009 16:41

Hi Polly This is my first tme on here so I will probably be rubbish at this! I don't even get all the abbreviations so sorry! I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in Dec 08. We had been trying for a year or so. After the miscarriage, we tried again for another year but no joy so decided enough was enough - we already had 2 children. Well now I find myself 5 weeks pregnant and completely gob smacked! No one is more surprised than me! I'm 38 so feel like I may be the oldest Mum at school in a few years time!! I'm hoping to go on the NHS for an 8 week scan but I'm still going to worry myself sick for the next 7 weeks
Good Luck

tracyea · 03/02/2009 16:43

See i'm so rubbish I even got my own dates wrong!!!! I had a miscarriage in Dec 06 so 2 years ago!
This is definitely turning my brain to cotton wool!

LittlePolly · 03/02/2009 17:21

Hi tracyea

Let's be rubbish together! I posted here for a while after my m/c and found it really supportive, so that's why I've come back for a bit of moral support (and hopefully a happier outcome) this time round.

Really sorry to hear about your m/c and quite a similar story to ours with it taking a long time for you to fall again. But congratulations on your BFP. We're at about the same stage and I'm 39, so we can compare elderly mum notes. And I know what you mean about worrying yourself sick. I wish I could just go to sleep and wake up once I'm past 12 weeks.

By the way, there's a link here somewhere that explains all the abbreviations, but I can't find it. Maybe one of the other ladies can help?

SparkyMalarky · 03/02/2009 18:12

thought it might be useful to include the list

Hi all - feeling odd tonight - went for a walk (in the snow, dh insisted on coming too bless him) this aft and everything hurts since. I think I have feet up under my ribcage which makes me wince - but also kind of dull pain in my bump and fanjo. Perurbed. (and uncomfortable!)Don't know quite what to do with myself - been on the ball, but most comfy walking around. False alarm methinks? Nothing regular like cx (not that I have any idea what they like but I am assured I will know all about it when they happen. Also babe still madly active.

Bunny get the bag packed!!

Wheely get the bag started and none of your 'waiting for the post' excuses!!

Polly and tracyea welcome and congrats ad sending you sticky thoughts. If you can hold off til the 8 week mark you might feel more reassured but we are all different...see if you can have an nhs one first re history/anxiety, if not the private ones are very nice. Well - scary but nice too.

dan39 · 03/02/2009 20:23

AND I haven't been in touch with tutor yet...

napa · 03/02/2009 20:41

dan thats sounds positive - hopefully softening your cervix nicely
welcome littlepolly and traceyea hope you both have a long stay
hope everyone else is ok
I've been manic at work. Hardly any staff could get in because of the snow and babies don't stop just because of the weather so I've worked 2 14 hour days and I'm really tired. As pretty as the snow is I'm glad its getting back to normal. Some of the staff stayed overnight too.
I've got my next scan tomorrow and I'm pretty nervous cos my preg symptoms seem to come and go, some days I feel rubbish and others I forget I'm pregnant.

tsom · 03/02/2009 22:27

sounds exciting dan, keep us posted

herb my MIL once fed my dcs choc sprinkles that were from my dhs childhood (yes the exact same packet), were too old to even have a bb date as they hadn't been introduced yet . It's not funny when you're pg though, I would have been

dbno hope you are surviving the inlaws

napa my pg symptoms used to come and go too

welcome littlepolly and traceyea, most of us on here are mid-late 30's+ so you are in good company

tracyea · 03/02/2009 22:53

Hello everyone
Polly i would like it if we could stay in touch
dan it sounds to me like the beginning of labour - been there done that!
I'm swinging between excited and terrfied that a new baby will change everything. We already have 2 children 10 and 7 and this feels like huge gap - that was why we stopped trying a year or so ago. We have spent 7 years being "a family of 4" I don't know how 5 works...

This must sound horrible selfish to everyone but we have spent the last 2 years telling ourselves that we were better off as a 4 - it helped the children accept the miscarriage and allow us all to move forward when we couldn't conceive again.

Did anyone else feel like this??

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 04/02/2009 10:59

traceyea don't worry about age gaps, my 2 are 11 and 3 (and get on brilliantly as there is no direct competition between them).

I had also pretty much given up hope of more. I don't ovulate and couldn't stand the IVF route (it made me quite insane). So ds2 took 3 years to conceive and I had given up hope of having another one. But not quite enough hope to use contraception

5 is going to be a big change for me too. It seems so many. But as I keep reminding ds1, he can't remember a time when ds2 didn't exist, and ds1 was nearly 8 when ds2 was born, so once baby number 3 appears it will be as though they were always a part of the family.

polly welcome too

Any sign of dbno? dan do we have any news?
So many ready to pop

I hope everyone's doing well.

winemakesmummyclever · 04/02/2009 11:54

Morning folks,

All quiet from dan & dbno today - let's hope they are busy producing their little bundles of joy eh? Good luck ladies

Welcome to tracyea & littlepolly - I hope that things go smoothly for you guys.

scotlass - how are you feeling now? Is dd better?

tsom & bunny - enjoy your mat leave. Guess I am on unofficial mat leave from uni. Doesn't feel like it yet though. Am looking forward the little man arriving so I can have a bit of break!

looby - so sorry to read about your cat. FWIW, you are not the only one who cries over their lost pet (lost my dog 2 years ago ). Better to get it all out and feel better, than keep it in and feel utterly miserable. Don't apologise for caring!

grinning - hope you are all settled now - just wait until until those nesting instincts kick in!

daisyj - little and often is the way to go on the food front. Helps with the dreaded heartburn too

herby - euuurrggghhh! Hope you are okay - am sure it will do no harm.

maz - glad scan was ok. napa - hope your scan goes well too.

Have got my pram sorted finally - red bugaboo bee. Got my money back from original shop & went to John Lewis on Sunday.

Still ploughing my way through this mountain of coursework. Taking so long as some group work involved and have to constantly redo other people's work to make it usable. Am a bit of a pedant, so probably make a rod for my own back!

Am amending my EDD on the list - woohooo! Less than two weeks. Have ANC next week for rescan as anterior placenta & need clerking in pre-op. Was all packed and ready to go but ds has found my secret hospital bag Pringle & Jammy Dodger stash , so will have to replenish that asap.

Hope everyone is getting along fine and wrapped up warm against the cold . Back to work for me now .

Still here - nothing so far altho maybe last nights pain did have a purpose...getting the irritating texts all morning - how do you do an eye role in text speak?? (you lot are allowed to ask tho - that's what we are all here for!!) Hope dbno is having more luck....

I was really uncomfy last night - baby seems to be doing massive somersaults (as I type in fact) which is annoying as a)it hurts, and b)isn't the little bugger supposed to be concentrating on burrowing into my pelvis?? Got upset and have to say dh was not brilliant as he said a few things along the lines of 'well when it starts it will be like this and worse so you need to get on with it'!!

I know what he means..sort of...but it wasn't what I needed! I also felt confused as it was dull pain not cx as I imagine them - at least I would feel like I was geeting somewhere!

Anyway spent all morning in bed, think I really should have a wee walk now. Thing is dh at work (after 2 days at home) and I can't tie my walking boots any more!! S its inappropriate footwear for me!

tsom great choc sprinkles story....!

wmmc bet you beat me. I kinda wish I needed a c section just to get a date!! Good interpretation of 'little and often' too -

ps I am such a whinger - not even late yet and listen to me!!!

pps the new design is annoying cos of the big gaps caused by ads. Is there a feedback bit anywhere so I can tell mnhq??

ppps think I am just grumpy....

herbaceous · 04/02/2009 12:54

Hi girls! Just back from 20-week scan, which was fab. Everything is perfect - heart works fine, brain all present and correct, placenta all good - I can't believe the relief.

And Cromwell really is a boy! Took a while to find his tackle - he was sat down at the bottom of my womb - but after a while of me leaping about, he shifted, and let the lady get a view of him from below. And there it was - meat and two veg.

Little part of me wanted a girl, but I'm hoping Cromwell will be a gay.
