oooh, I do love a new thread

OP posts:
Sabs1981 · 02/02/2009 12:16

Hello ladies, sorry i havent posted for a long time on here, ( i know i havent even been on this thread for that long!) RL has been taking over a bit, plus ive been just stressing (i know I shouldnt) over this new pregnancy. I'm now 6+2, and due to have my 7-week scan next Tuesday 10th.

I have been lurking though, and want to say how sorry I am to VM and 4ever, I know nothing I say can make it any better, but just to let you know i'm thinking of you lots

Well, last week, I had a bit of brown discharge, but then yesterday it got heavier. I've also got a cold and sore throat, which is exactly what i had before my last mmc kicked off

Rang NHS Direct, who told me to ring my out-of-hours GP service. They then told my to go into my local A&E, where they have a new GP out of hours service located there. Saw a doc who was so unhelpful who made me feel like i was just being a paranoid woman who was wasting his time, who didnt even examine me internally, just checked my temp, throat, urine, chest, blood pressure etc. I didnt even want to go in, it was the GP i spoke to on the phone who said I should go in to be examined. I even took the (sorry TMI alert!) panty liner as evidence, and asked him if he wanted to see it, and he wasnt really interested.

Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) of brown discharge in early pregnancy..I didnt have this when i miscarried, but had bright red blood then

sorry, selfish/"me, me me" post over

dan39 · 02/02/2009 15:03

Yes sabs there are regular posts on here re brown discharge. Its often 'cervical erosion' and brown is often good as old blood - but red can be ok too - I had a bright red lumpy bleed at 7 weeks which was an extra chorioric haemmorage and did bean no harm. Just a shame you weren't treated better!! Could you try your local EPU?

herb don't worry about the custard (but what a thing to give a pg woman!!! ) as you would know about it by now if it was gonna do you any harm.

I too am home and due in 2 DAYS!!! Have booked refelexology session (>) on wed too - but given the weather might not make it, gonna google closer to home in a min to see if there is one I can walk to.

Had a trip to hosp last night for a trace as babe been quiet over the weekend - all was fine (of course) and the main result was that we completely ruined the beef joint we were trying to cook for tea - overcooked it til 11, veg mostly charred, no gravy (I only like roasts for the gravy...) and therefore had to have hysterics. Dh very good about it and calmed me down saying the baby more important than the veg.....

Off for some home made tomato and lentil soup and a few sky+ episodes of Bones now - its a hard life!

Also - I am running out of raspberry leaf tea; I stink of clary sage (mixed it in with my neals yard lovelty belly rub and am burning it in oil burner with lavender as I fall asleep; I have had chilli in everything for the last week; we have done a playlist/cd for the birth (on ipod and cd in case end up in hosp; am dropping heavy hints about sex but doesn't seem to be working - will have to just pin him down soon. Hows dbno?

Hope everyone else well.

Wheelybug · 02/02/2009 15:09

Daisy - we eat a bit late to be honest but it seems early compared to what we used to do when DH worked properly (he's been off sick for 5 months - although getting back slowly) so don't usually eat until about 8.30. By the time we've got dd into bed we don't get the chance much earlier. I try as early as I can. It seems to have been a little better though - last night I had roast and pudding and it was fine. Maybe it was a bug ?!?!

Herby - the custard is a right worry but I think you'd know about it by now and I think generally food poisoning is to be avoided because you feel even worse in pregnancy rather than (most forms) being bad for hte baby.

DBNO - Hope DH is home safe and sound and that labour only kicks off soon if you're nearish the hospital .

Sabs - hope all is ok...

Dan - glad all was fine with the trace. Maybe I was right and it is the calm before the storm. Sorry to hear about the dinner but DH is right - the baby is more important ! Hope the snow clears soon and you go into labour very soon !

cece · 02/02/2009 15:29

dan - my mind boggles at you pinning your dh down for some sex! LOL

Snowed in here. Just heard schools all shut tomorrow too. Been snowing steadily all day and must be a foot and half by now!

maz32 · 02/02/2009 17:00

thanx everyone, got scan tomorrow so will wait and see, if its not one things its another i thought by nearly 21 weeks i would be stress free!! guess not!x

herbaceous wot can i say mils!! who would serve someone food that out of date!? im sure you will be fine so dont worry, but i would be careful if she invites u again vet the ffod first!

daisyj · 02/02/2009 18:43

herby - your mil sounds like my parents - lovely people, but god, some of the things that live in their fridge! Seriously, though, you would have been ill by now if you were going to be - I know how you feel though - I ate an yoghourt that was off the other day (our work fridge is dodgy, and it was in date, but tasted really weird, and my colleague confirmed it smelled odd after I'd eaten at least half of it, as I thought it was just me having weird taste buds.) Anyway, I was quite upset after food-poisoning at Christmas - it's really distressing, particularly when it's not your fault.

dan lol at the baby being more important than veg. I ruined a meal I cooked for friends on Saturday - still feel embarrassed about it, and about blaming DH - of course it was all his fault, as everything will continue to be for the next two months - poor thing, he's so lovely I don't know how he puts up with me...

Anyway - jump on your DH and call your tutor!! But not simultaneously

Hope everyone's having fun in the snow - looks like southeastern are running some trains tomorrow - damn, i was quite enjoying this staying at home today. Will I be ostracised if I admit that I watched the Jeremy Kyle Show today. Really, I did. For an hour.

scotlass · 02/02/2009 22:40

wheely - have you packed the bag? . I?m so excited about these babies who are due soon ? it feels like ages since we had a graduee. Are you the same as me with the diarrhoea thing? I was blaming the indigestion medicine, then put it down to a virus when DD was unwell too and now have it again. It just feels really weird cos I remember it being constipation with DD?s pg. Sorry for all this bowel talk!
Moving on ?? names. I reckon don?t say anything till after the baby has been born then insist on the name you have pre chosen ? your DH won?t dare argue after you going through the labour and birth! That?s my plan this time anyway. Having said that our girl name is picked and agreed by the 3 of us. Boy name I?ve picked and DH and DD can like it or lump it.

dan I?m glad the trace was ok and the movements calming down I?m sure is just a space issue. Your girl is nearly here ? I?m so excited!!!!! Have you persuaded your DH to do his bit to get your labour going? Maybe wait till after all this snow now. I did giggle about your hysterics over veg, we all understand but our poor men must think we?re all mental! My pram is dark grey base with sand canvas. I still can?t quite believe we?re having a boy so have gone for something that will match pink or blue ? we have a real girl thing in our family. It?s strange it?s the first normal pg thing we?ve done and feels like a big deal.

sabs brown discharge can be nothing. I had it with DD who is now a stroppy lovely 9yr old and also had it with this pg which is 29wks tomorrow. Have you had it checked out? Any discharge after mc experience can be a worry but I hope it?s nothing.

herb - hope the custard hasn?t caused you any problems ? MIL?s, don?t get me started

and finally daisy - Jeremy Kyle?

Hope everyone in the 0-20wk bracket is holding up and am willing the weeks away for you all.

scotlass · 02/02/2009 22:42

oops
maz good luck with the scan tomorrow

dan39 · 02/02/2009 23:03

daisy - tutor...oh yeah....

Good luck maz will think of you.

wheely - bag!!

LoobyLou36 · 03/02/2009 08:12

Morning ladies.

Hope you are all well. wheely pack that bag!

Had a bad day yesterday, hardly anything to do at work ( and I'm still cos I haven't been paid for 8 weeks) so booked half day holiday and spent the afternoon cleaning and packing up stuff I'd sold on ebay.
Then my local vets rang to say my cat Maisie who'd been missing had been brought in by someone she'd been hit by a car and was dead I burst into tears on the phone (poor woman must have thought I was nuts - I did explain I was pregnant and so a bit emotional).
I've got to ring them back today and arrange picking her up so that I can bury her in the garden (note to self: must try not to get hysterical this time). Trouble is I can't see the garden at the moment - its under 3 inches of snow.
I am back at work today and still stressing cos I have no money. Just bucking up the courage to ask my boss AGAIN.
I am just so fed up.
LO keeps telling me to snap out of it - I seem to be getting punched and kicked at both sides of my belly at the same time. He/shes co-ordination is amazing.

herbaceous · 03/02/2009 08:13

Hello girls

All well on custard watch - no discernible ill effects, and Cromwell was kicking away yesterday afternoon, so all is forgiven.

Poor MiL - it was an honest mistake, and she looked mortified when she realised what she'd done. She has had a lot to think about recently - her husband's just had a heart attack - and I think she just went a bit dippy.

Excited about all the ladies about to pop. I trust coming to tell us all about it will be your first port of call when you come out of the labour room!

dan39 · 03/02/2009 09:39

Looby so sorry to hear about your cat - and for what it's worth I reckon you are allowerd to get hysterical about it, pg or no pg! I hope the snow thaws a bit so that you can bury her. And 8 weeks without pay - !!!! Poor you! Ask him - whilst sticking your belly out!!

herb glad to hear the custard isn't giving you or Cromwell any gip.

Someone from my NCT class had a girl yest - 10 days early! Me and another who are due today (her ) and TOMORROW (ME) are feeling left behind!...

Felt a bit 'odd' in the tummy yesterday, but no dice. I did stop dh drinking all evening tho as he thought we were on! What a funny situation to be in - waiting for, indeed hoping for some really bad pain!? I bet I will be another bloody two weeks...

Wheelybug · 03/02/2009 10:42

No guys - no bag packed. Mainly because I was planning to do a mothercareworld run yesterday and into town to do primark bits today. Alas, 8 inches of snow has got in the way. The roads are still terrible so not going anywhere today either (DD is off nursery for the 2nd day in a row because they've shut). Am trying to decide whether to do an internet mothercare shop to cut out one trip. Am getting a bit nervous about it this morning as had some wonky vision earlier - that said, I had been bending down for a while (Turn away those who are faint hearted) trying to pull my big toenail off (I appear to have developed some weird toe rot amongst everything else this pregnancy) so am hoping/sure it was that rather than pre-eclampsia rearing its head. However, it did make me realise I would be more relaxed about it if I had bags sitting there waiting. So I will get everything bought by Friday (have tomorrow - fingers crossed dd is back at nursery or at least the roads are ok, then she'll have to come with me) and friday morning.

Scotlass - tummy seems to go through phases so guess it is just one of those things ??? One of the glamorous sides of pregnancy !!

Looby - sorry about the cat. I'm sure you're not unusual crying at the receptionist when given that news, pregnant or not.

Maz - good luck with the scan

Daisy - sorry about Jeremy Kyle - hope you get out of thehouse soon .

Herby - glad the custard hasn't come back to haunt you...

Dan and DBNO - thinking of you bothand wishing you lots of contractions (providing the snow is a bit clearer with you....)

herbaceous · 03/02/2009 10:56

Aw Looby. So sorry about your cat. I would be inconsolable if anything happened to either of my two. Feel free to cry all over the receptionist - I'm sure they've seen it all before.

I was in the waiting room of the vet's one time, and a lady rushed in with a limp cat wrapped up in a towel. They were rushed into the surgery room, were in there five minutes, and she came out without the cat, crying. Everyone in the waiting room, including me, started crying too!

LoobyLou36 · 03/02/2009 11:17

Hi Ladies

Thanks for all the king messages about Maisie I'm still bucking up the courage to ring the vets.

Quick question: I am right in thinking that when you go on maturnity leave your annual holiday accrues whilst you are away? So you still have that holiday to take either when you go back or at the start of maturnity leave?

I've just had a run in with the secretary about this. My holidays go April to the end of March so I have said that I will finish on 9th April then take 2 weeks annual leave and start my maturnity on 27th April. She says this is wrong. I told her that I was correct and she got a bit pissy. I HOPE TO GOD I AM RIGHT.

Wheelybug · 03/02/2009 11:23

Looby - you do accrue holiday leave whilst you're on maternity leave. However, I don't know if you can take it before hand or not - probably only what you have left from this years. Unless of course you can get it agreed by someone.

If you don't go back after maternity leave, they have to pay you all your holiday !

Wheelybug · 03/02/2009 11:24

Actually, just re-read your post and I can't see what you plan to do is a problem as you've already started the new holiday year. I thought you were starting in the old holiday year, if that makes sense. There's no reason why you can't take 2 weeks holiday as soon as the holiday year starts in the same way you could if you weren't going on maternity leave.

LoobyLou36 · 03/02/2009 11:31

thanks wheely I thought I was right.

So I am not completely preg head yet then, lol.

Think she's just trying to diddle me out of my entitlements. As I said earlier I am owed 8 weeks pay - anyone would think the money was coming out of her own pocket!

LoobyLou36 · 03/02/2009 12:02

Snow is coming down thick and fast here now.

Wheelybug · 03/02/2009 12:09

blue skies here at last - and its melting - hooray !! I was so excited yesterday and had great fun but now I want to get on !!

Anyway, just thought I'd update and let you (Scotlass and Dan particularly) that I have just done a mothercare order,a john lewis order and a Jojomamanbebe order on line. So once that's all arrived (actually the mothercare one is the only one I really need) I'm almost sorted. Although still no maternity pads... Mind you, I will go into town tomorrow and get cheap birthing nighties from primark, cheap pants, a pressie from the baby for dd (although what I don't know given she's just had christmas and birthday) and can pop to boots and get some maternity pads. Oh yes, by 35 weeks I will be sorted.

LoobyLou36 · 03/02/2009 12:10

well done wheely

LittlePolly · 03/02/2009 12:47

Hi everyone
Can I join? Not sure if this is the right thread...

I'm 39 and had a missed m/c in May 2006. Been trying to conceive again ever since. Finally decided to get fertility investigated and just before Christmas were told that even though the tests had found no probs with either of us, we had only a 2-3 per cent chance of conceiving naturally.

We were just about to sign up (reluctantly) for private IVF, when I got a BFP! I'm amazed, delighted and terrified in equal measure and have convinced myself that the same thing is going to happen again ? every little twinge is the sign of impending m/c!

I'm very early on at the moment. I don't even know how I calculate how far on I am, cos this would be our first baby. First day of my last period was Dec 26. Do I count from there to know what week I'm at, or from when I think I ovulated???

I'm thinking of paying for an early scan. Last time I was walking around with the baby dead for six weeks before I miscarried. Did anyone else have an early scan to set their mind at rest? If so, how soon can you have it done??

Phew! Sorry, so many questions.

SparkyMalarky · 03/02/2009 12:58

Oh Looby am so sorry about your cat, and don't feel in the least bit worried about sobbing down the phone - I'd do the same even if I wasn't pregnant. Lovely to bury her in the garden tho - you can talk to her when you're out with the new baby (yes, I am a complete softy when it comes to cats!

And as others have said, you definitely accrue your holiday whilst your on maternity leave - you should be able to take it before or after your mat leave(or get the money for it if you leave) and I think that you get full pay for that time - not maternity pay. As wheely says - surely you can just book it off as a normal holiday, and start your mat leave immediately after? Have you managed to make any progress on getting paid?

Wheely - well done on getting some stuff for the bag sorted! Maternity pads are easy (and could probably be delivered in an online sainsbury's shop?) Am almost 26 weeks but it seems like a hundred years til I have to worry about that (someone nag me to do it when my time comes won't you!)

Dan - have you called your tutor? Am worried that you'll be worried about your work and not going into labour!! Oooh, it's exciting No news from dbno either....(hello if you're lurking )

maz have fingers crossed for you

herb - glad to hear you survived the custard, have a similar issue with my MIL (DH always checks the use by date on anything we eat from her larder!)

daisy - jeremy kyle ......having said that, just had to stop myself watching Loose Women, it's a slippery slope!

sabs brown discharge can be nothing - I'ev had a few instances this time round including one where I panicked myself so much that I headed off to hospital for a trip to the antenatal ward one evening. Was nothing, but if you're worried you should get it checked out (the hospital were lovely when I went in even tho I felt like a bit of a fraud as we could see LO bouncing around on the screen)

scotlass my tummy is not right at all - had thought it was a virus, but think it's actually just being PG! another 14 weeks to go.....

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 03/02/2009 13:01

Welcome little polly - you're in the right place.

Congrats on your BFP !! You do count from the first day of your last period so from 26 Dec which makes you about 5 weeks. I had an early scan at 7 weeks which was inconclusive so had another at 10 weeks. I think if you can hold out to 8 weeks you get a better idea of what is going on. The earlier it is the less likely you are to see a heart beat and so much changes so quickly that if you're a couple of days out with your dates it can be inconclusive. But, having said that, having the 2 scans in the first trimester broke it up a bit and made it more manageable !

Right am going to drag myslef out in the snow for a walk (and a coffee and cake) otherwise I am going to sit here all day and dd is going to watch beebies all day !

SparkyMalarky · 03/02/2009 13:07

littlepolly welcome and congratulations this sounds like it's the place for you!)(missed your post from my epic last one!)

You should count from the first day of your last period, so that would make you about 5 weeks or so (maybe almost 6?)and I think mumsnet have a handy due date calendar somewhere (will find the link) but due sometime around the end of September?

I had an early scan after my MMC, and lots of us on here have done. I have a lovely GP who arranged it on the NHS, but others have gone private. Depending on how you feel (and if you can wait) it's sometimes better to wait until you should see a heartbeat - generally around 8 weeks. Any earlier than that and you might not see anything which might be even more worrying...I worked on the basis I'd rather wait and had one at 8+4 when I saw a heartbeat (with the MMC, it had stopped developing at about 6 weeks they think) so that got me through til the 12 week scan!
