Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of really premature rutured membranes ?

My waters went on monday as a result of an infection i picked up having an emergency stitch put in last week.

Babys fine and the stitch is still holding, i've not gone in to labour but obviously this is a grim situation and we're likely to lose our baby boy.

I'm on some wacking great antibiotics which are making me feel hideous but i have been discharged from hospital, there is nothing mroe they can do there apparently so i am home on bedrest praying babys lungs develop and he stays put for a few more weeks to at least give him a chance.

Does anyone know anyne who has been though this ?

Worzel you're doing so well! Very best wishes.

eekareindeer · 17/12/2008 19:51

Worzsel - I have been with your thread since you started it and have been checking in daily but not posted because I didn't feel I had any relevant information to share.

But its just dawned on me that I do: my Aunty was born very prematurely at home. I'm afraid I am not sure of dates but I do know she weighed under 3lb and this was at a time when she wasn't expected to survive, and so she and her mum weren't taken into hospital, they were left at home for nature to take its course. Aunty's mum wrapped her in a blanket, and put her in a drawer in the living room (only room in the house with a fire), they didn't have a cot because they weren't expecting her then, and managed to feed her and look after her.

So Aunty grew up to be a 5ft 11in and tower over her tiny mum who, by the time I came on the scene, was living in my Aunty's house and being looked after by her. Lol! It was so hard to imagine such a tall woman coming from such a tiny Mum.

Sadly my Aunty died on Sunday. She was 82.
She was severely premature in the 1920s and yet she made it and lived a wonderful life and had two daughters (my cousins) of her own.

Wishing you and your little boy everything xx

Great news, I'm so happy that baby is happy and he's growing and developing by the day. We're all rooting for you. You're so positive, your little boy is very lucky to have such a lovely mummy. I'm fairly new to mumsnet and don't really post much but I keep checking your thread every so often.

LenniEd · 17/12/2008 20:22

Worzel - I've also been checking in on you daily but not yet posted. Good luck, will be thinking of you

And wouldn't worry about bringing others down, quite the contrary, you make me realise just how precious this pregnancy business is.

jabberwocky · 17/12/2008 21:11

JumpingJellyfish · 17/12/2008 22:41

So glad the scan went well, really hoping and praying your little man keeps tucked up inside for a good bit longer but as keeps being said every day is a bonus- you are both doing so well. Be gentle on yourself and keep resting! xxxx

WeWishEWEaMerryXmas · 17/12/2008 22:45

Oh what good news! Your little boy sounds like a real fighter and FWIW, I think you sound like you're coping really well.

WorzselMincepieYummage · 19/12/2008 12:49

Just popping in to update you all that nothing's happening still I have a very odd body !

26 week today and feeling fine.. well the pregnant part of me is fine the rest of me is full of stinking horrible cold.

Babys still ok. He was up to something last night though so i wouldnt be surprised if we find he's managed to turn around when i have my scan on Tuesday, my bumps changed too. The mw i saw this morning wouldn't have a feel for me and i cant feel anything myself so will have to wait and see.

Same midwife had to be reminded to take my temp and blood pressure... said it didnt need doing everytime anyway when i told her to do it it was fine anyway but my pulse has been between 100 and 120 for the last week do i have to start taking the iron pills again.. horrid things , i might just get Df to buy me a couple of cabages for christmas and some spinache. yum.

Hope your all well, thanks again for the support

xxxxxxx

Good luck Worzsel - like many others, I've been keeping an eye on this thread, and thinking of you - hang on in there!

If you need to go back on iron - you could always try a liquid iron supplement - I think it is called Floradix or something - but they sell it in health food shops, and apparently it doesn't have the same constipating effects as iron tablets etc. Not had to take it myself, although got close to....

BIG HUGS!and hoping another peaceful week ahead for you - good luck with the scan.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 19/12/2008 13:22

Floradix an option, but also Spatone. Spatone comes on sachets and you can add to orange juice (or water if you want, but adding to something with lots of vitamin C will increase iron uptake).

WorzselMincepieYummage · 19/12/2008 13:24

Oooo i'll look in to that thanks the ferrous sulphate are miserable !

Thanks too for the hugs and the luck

eekareindeer · 19/12/2008 13:52

I had the Floradix. Much nicer than the tablets.

Hooray for 26 weeks!

CrochetDivaMadeTheElvesNewHats · 19/12/2008 14:14

I've been following your thread, but not posting as I had nothing to add - but I can heartily recommend Floradix (you can get it in tablet form too - your GP can also prescribe it under the generic name, ferrous glucamate as it's less stomch-clenchingly awfulthan the ferrous sulphate, which is the cheap option).
I've also had Spatone, and that was fine too.

I'm thinking of you, and praying for you and your family - every hour of every day makes a difference.

WorzselMincepieYummage · 19/12/2008 14:17

Thanks

I'll try and sweet talk my consultant on Wednesday and see if i can get some out of him.

reluctantincubator · 19/12/2008 14:27

Another lurker - so chuffed you have reached 26 weeks. Hang on in there Wee-Worzsel!

JacksFirstChristmasMama · 19/12/2008 17:01

Cheers for 26 weeks!! I am so happy for you!!
My mum and I have been following your thread, they just arrived at ours for Christmas and one of the first things she asked me was "is the woman with the PROM still ok?"
Floradix is wonderful - tastes sort of like honey but you can also taste the iron it it... not too bad though.
