Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mrsboogie · 28/11/2008 16:42

'ere ladies - please tell me if this is me being pathetic or what:

I have been trying to get into town all day however young master D has prevented me from doing so by doing the following:

/wake up and demand food

/have one ounce then decide its time for fun, giggles and sitting on my knee, while refusing any more food

/spend 30-45 mins noisily trying to fall to sleep

/sleep for 15 mins

/wake up and repeat

He has done it four times smirking most cheekily throughout. I couldn't take him on a 40 minute walk in the freezing cold because he hadn't had a proper feed and couldn't predict when he might suddenly want one. Should I have just bundled him up and stuck him in the buggy regardless?

/reaches for the gin bottle

johnworf · 28/11/2008 16:57

hmmm tricky one...mind you, K has not been far off young master Darragh's tricks today. Last night she refused her cot until 2am. Slept until 8am. Had 2 ounces fell back to sleep until 1am (). Had a couple of ounces on and off but like you say, refusing and smiling etc. Have they both reached that lovely milestone of 'little git'?

I probably wouldn't have risked taking him out if it was me. You can guarantee half way down your road and he'll be starving and not give up crying until you got him home by which time, you're ready for a nervous breakdown.

mrsboogie · 28/11/2008 17:00

that's exactly what would have happened jw

He has def been a wee git but I can't get annoyed lookin' at his cheeky grin all day

jeanjeannie · 28/11/2008 20:47

Evening all. Well, the cake wasn't very nice - bit dry and hard

Verity is a ball of cough and snot. Bless her, this is her first cold and it's a corker. She's snoring in bed - Olbas oil on a muslin hanging off the cot and her little cheeks glowing all pink! Gonna be a ruff night tonight - I can tell.

mrsB I'd have done the same as you. It's way to much hassle and upset dragging them out when they're not settled. You'd only end up saying 'I wish I'd not bothered'

lilibet hope your DS has a lovely B'day tomorrow.

ladymac pleased you're feeling perkier today and that you've been out making merry with vouchers

DP has gone for a soak in the bath - which is code for - I'm feeling poorly, I'm going to sleep in here till it's time for bed!

mrsboogie · 28/11/2008 21:35

oh jj poor old Verity hope she gets over it quick. Can you feed her a bit off a spoon now rather than totally relying on her trying to suck with a blocked nose?

lilibet happy birthday to your DS tomorrow.

ladymac - glad to see you are bearing up. Sorry the old bleeding malarky is dragging on - does seem a tad excessive.

I have just done another ebay auction - for a bed throw - didn't win but I don't think I wanted to - as the deadline approached I was praying that one of these silent lurker types would sneak in and outbid me. And they did. With ten seconds to spare. There's a whole breed of people out there who wait to bid on things at the very last second. Hmmm..

Tee2072 · 29/11/2008 08:42

Morning all.

Well, I had a good night. DH, on the other hand, was vomiting between 5:30 and 6. We think it was the wine he drank, not that he drank too much, but that it was bad wine. Poor baby.

johnworf · 29/11/2008 08:44

mrsb sorry to say this but I'm one of the 10 second lurkers It's the only way to win these days.

Talking of which, I'll be photographing babygros this morning. Nope. Haven't gained a babygro fetish but I'm flogging outgrown stuff on Ebay as there's no insertion fee this weekend. Just had a quick sort out of her clothes and a) can't believe how much I've bought b) how much she's grown out of and c) how little wear she's had out of most of it The words of DH are now coming back to haunt me.

The fog is really thick here today so any plans I fleetingly had of braving the elements have been shelved. Not that I have anything to actually go out for.

JJ so sorry that LO has the snuffles There's not much you can do for them at that age apart from calpol and olbas oil (I've noticed they've brought a baby olbas oil out now but no idea what the difference is). And they can't even tell you where it hurts or how miserable they feel Sleep usually helps to sleep it off though. Hoping she feels much better very soon.

Was reading about the measles epidemic that is gathering pace in the north west. Not surprised one little bit. All those parents out there who opted out of the MMR on the back of some crappy research (now discredited) are now reaping their rewards; i.e. kids hospitalised and I'm sure that a few will die. I'll be putting 'opting out of jabs' in with 'baby led weaning' and sending them both to Room 101.

I'm wondering if we could get a new saying out of JJ's cake. Henceforth I shall now say 'hard cake' instead of 'hard cheese' when something doesn't go DH's way

johnworf · 29/11/2008 08:45

tee how much 'bad' wine did he have? Crikey, now I remember all the reasons why I gave up drinking a long time ago.

Tee2072 · 29/11/2008 08:57

JW only about 2 glasses, so not much at all. It wasn't how much he drank, that's for sure. Not even sure it was the wine, could be a bug, that I hope I don't pick up!

jeanjeannie · 29/11/2008 09:45

Morning all. Verity was very good last night - snuffled her way through although woke loads just to be de-snotted! Now our room stinks of Olbas (junior is less pungent) and I can't stand the stuff.

tee your poor DH Ugh, bad wine....nasty.

jw Hahaha a 'Room 101' of modern things designed to re-invent bringing up babies!! I'm so fed up with it all. Folk moan about 'pressure' on kids but then they (and the government) should look at how they're targetting us all from birth!

My current bug-bear is Parent's as First Teachers. On the surface it's a nice idea - meetings, all get together , share ideas etc. But then it slips into 'project workers' coming to your house and telling you all the things you should be doing with your child All very well and good - but why aren't they forcing this on the shabby people like the parents of Shannon Matthews? Not wasting the funding on harrasing people like me so they can again - tick boxes and say they're making a difference - cos they're NOT. Beware of getting trapped into all this stuff cos it's very hard to get out of it!!!! We don't let any of them darken our doorway

mrsB sorry, I'm also a last min lurker! Keep my eye ont he goods - never show my hand - then If I still want it - I pounce!

People round for dinner tonight - huge lamb shanks.....MMmmm, should I do them all Moroccan? Ladymac where are you when I need you? How much do you charge to do a home visit

mrsboogie · 29/11/2008 12:12

mornin all

I can see I am going to get into this ebay lurking business

jj glad your little Miss didn't suffer much in the night. LoL @ her being "desnotted"

OMG this parents as First Teachers malarky sounds ehmm horrendous. My worst nightmare would be some box ticking twat coming round to patronise me in the latest buzz speak. I get enough of that kind of crap at work. Like everything else of course, the kind of people this is aimed at won't take it up and the kind of people who already know that they should be their child's first teacher will already be making a good fist of it.

Have we seen the Beckhams and the Cruises out and about for Thanksgiving (courtesy of the DM website) - now who's idea was that little get together? Sure as heck wasn't Posh's judging by the sour look on her face.

OP posts:
johnworf · 29/11/2008 14:01

haha mrsb I saw posh's slapped arse face! She's got miserable off to a tee (sorry Tee that's nothing in connection with you!).

Parent's as First Teachers sounds so faux right on that it makes me angry just reading about it. As you so rightly say, the ones who need the help can't be arsed and won't take it up and the ones who don't...well they don't! Simple as. Grrrrrr. I feel a Victor Meldrew moment coming on. mrsb I feel that we are indeed grumpy old women

OOH friends around for dinner. How social of you! Myself and DH have a date with a frozen pizza and it's cousins, frozen garlic bread (it's the future). May even squeeze in a dvd if we're both awake and K isn't screaming the place down.

OMG the christmas madness is almost upon us. I went (stupidly) to the supermarket early this morning and you can see the panic in people's eyes. Jeez. Gets them every year...and I mean, there's no warning or notice or anything

lilibet · 29/11/2008 14:04

Good Morning everyone, I hope that Darragh and PrincessK are behaving themselves today adn that Verity is feeling a bit better

We are off to se the new Angelina Jolie film, The Changeling then coming home for X factor and fajitas (veggie of course)

and of course, as it's Saturday "we're going on a carpet hunt, we going to get ........................etc!!

Tee I hope your dh is feeling a bit better and your time off work rejuvenates you a bit.

Ds had a fantastic time at the Chill Factor thingy last night, couldn't really get any photos as we were too far away from them. But next time I want a go !!!!. Me and the luge were made for one another

I had my hair cut this week and my haidresser, who is also a very good mate, was in a bad mood, so my hair now looks ike it has been cut with hedge clippers and my fringe is horribly short!

Ladymac Ds2 has been invited to a girl's 12th birthday party next weekend, any present suggestions for me?

lilibet · 29/11/2008 14:07

I must just add my usual defence of Posh and her DH, many years ago my exh used to work at Manchester Children's Hospital (when David Beckham was at Man U), and they used to spend an awful lot of (unpublicised) time there. They would very often spend an afternoon on the wards, just turning up unannounced.

I'm always a bit defensive of them after knowing that, but I do agree that she does very often have a face like a slapped backside.

jeanjeannie · 29/11/2008 15:56

Oh the Beckham-Cruise publicity wagon is just awful. Perhaps they're both stunt wives...... if you get my drift Oh I DO like a stunt wife. I'd name a few I thought were it but the MN lawyers would probably get on my case. *put's hand over mouth and sneezes....Cheryl Cole..

Who else makes my Gaydar go a hooting....MMmm, let me see. Well, John Travolata, George Clooney and Mr Tumble....although I'm reliably informed that Mr Tumble is very straight!!!

lilibet so pleased your DS had a great time at the chill factor. I'm gutted about my hairdresser. He was named this week as Hairdresser of the Year....which is all very nice for him and I'm thrilled and all that - but what's the chance of little old me getting a cut before Xmas eh?! PAH - Humbug.

JW am stil PMSL at your description of panic stricken shoppers who never saw it coming Wish I'd got frozen stuff for dinner. I started doing lamb shanks ala red wine - got bored and switched to Moroccan....MMmmm, me thinks it may be a triffle too spicey and my mate is 17weeks preegie !!!

johnworf · 29/11/2008 16:19

I might sound like I've been living under a rock but wtf is Mr tumble?? And absolutely YES! @ the Cheryl Cole gay deflector!

Wow. I wish my hairdresser was famous and won awards but alas, no. It's tony, DH's bridge chum. He's a lovely guy and all but thinks that demi-waves are still in His hairdressers shop is straight out of 1977. Sayiing that he's safe and never hacks my hair off cos he's in a bad mood! Scary hairdresser lilibet.

I'm salivating at the thought of moroccan lamb, spicey or otherwise. I'm sure your friend will be fine but I'd give her the heads up on the spices.

lilibet the Chill Factor is fab isn't it? we've taken the little one a couple of times but I couldn't partake as last time I was up the duff And now I'm on house arrest until March. However, I've put an idea to DH in that come 2011 we're all going to take skiing lessons (even K) with the hope that we'll start going on skiing holidays in the winter Glad your DS liked it though. I bet he's at that right age for yomping through the snow, down the hill in the inflatable and a quick whizz on the luge

I'm sure 'in the beginning' the Beckhams were down to earth people and did nice, ordinary things. I think they're way beyond that now. They almost from another planet. Put it this way, I bet posh doesn't spend much time looking for David's other blue sock or getting the grease out of the grill pan.

hedgepig · 29/11/2008 17:13

Mr tumble is on cbeebies JW, he dresses as a clown does some talking and signing. Mr tumble of Justin as his mom called him alos does tikkabila and higgledy piggledy house - there you really wanted to know that didn't you?? here. JJ I think you may well be right.

I've just been for a lovely wall with the boys and my parents and then scoffed lots of National Trust cake - yummy but you don't get a cheap lunch there.
This made up for my lovely day yesterday NOT! I went to the gP about this blocked milk duct I have which still hasn't cleaned up after 2 lots of anti biotics. She though it may be a breast abscess and so she sent me to the hospital to see a surgeon. I spent 4 hrs in A&E and got nowhere, the surgeon chap I saw gave me more a'biotics and said he would get me an appointment at the breast clinic on Monday as they were the best people to look a boobies. I was so relived to get out I just grabbed them a'biotic went but they are making no difference to the lump and pain but I don't see any point in going back i just hope I can get seen on Monday

Tee2072 · 29/11/2008 17:28

Yikes hedgepig I hope you get seen on Monday. That sounds really painful!

The good news around here is the DH is feeling well enough for the Indian take-away as planned! I was afraid I'd be having a ready meal while he had soup! And somehow a Tikka Masala ready meal from Tesco just doesn't sound as nice as the real thing from the take-away!

hedgepig · 29/11/2008 17:31

Tee I am in awe of your ability to eat curry while pregnant . I would have just thrown up.

Tee2072 · 29/11/2008 17:34

Baby likes spicy food, hedgepig! And I'm so glad she does!

Also, you're all going to think I'm insane, but I swear I felt her move last night! I'm only 10+3, but I certainly felt a little tug, push thing while I was lying in bed.

hedgepig · 29/11/2008 19:44

wow tee that is very early. Enjoy your curry we are going out too leaving Grandma and grandpa in charge, I think we will try to get into the Thai restaurant.

johnworf · 29/11/2008 20:00

tee it's probably wind

hedgepig any luck with cabbage leaves (I know this works for mastitis and I know it's not the same as you've got but you never know)? Have you tried massage like when you're bringing your milk down when you're BF? Sorry if you've tried all of these to no avail but thought I'd throw in a couple of suggestions.

Thanks for englightening me on Mr Tumble. I'm sure in a couple of years I'll know all of these

Tee2072 · 30/11/2008 07:43

Good morning all.

JW you're probably right! But it was fun to think it might be the baby for a bit!

I am feeling much better than I have been, but I think I will still take advantage of my doctor's line and take the next week off. She really didn't want me to push it, and I agree with her.

My exciting Sunday plans are to clean the bathrooms and change the bed. Can anyone beat that?

hedgepig · 30/11/2008 07:47

morning what a fun packed day you have Tee . I will look at my bathroom thinking it needs a clean but not get around to it.

we have paid for going out young Oliver has been up wanting to play since 4. DH ended up taking him down stairs and has been buying vegetable peelers off the shopping channel - it is amazing what sleep deprivation wil do to the brain.

hedgepig · 30/11/2008 08:36

JW thanks I haven't tried cabbage but I have pretty much everything else nobody seems sure what the problem is, hopefully I will find out tomorrow
