Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
johnworf · 16/12/2008 21:29

I'm not sure I would be happy having a diagnostic test in late 2nd trimester. If you did want to do anything about it, then for me, it's too late.

Bearing in mind I've seen what a 24 weeker looks like

Tee2072 · 16/12/2008 21:34

That's a good point JW.

I am so conflicted over this anyway. I really don't think I could terminate regardless, but DH and I discussed it and agreed we'd rather have all the facts.

I am not the praying type, but I think I'm praying over this a bit.

johnworf · 17/12/2008 06:56

As we've said tee the decisions are completely yours and your OH's. Not saying the decisions are easy but yes, you are right. You need all the facts before you before you start to think what you're going to do.

When I was pregnant I chose not to have any of the tests apart from the 21 week scan as both myself and DH had decided that we'd take this baby whatever. However, I must stress, everyone has their right to choosing what to do. Mine was 100% right for only us.

Yep, it's very hard and the worry never ends I'm afraid! I still worry about my older ones and the oldest is coming up to 23! So, get yourself buckled in the the long haul. I think you stop worrying about your kids when you've taken your last breath

Only advice I can give tee is inbetween all of the worrying don't forget there is also immense joy and happiness so make sure you enjoy this too and don't get caught in the worry trap especially from the healthcare professionals.

Tee2072 · 17/12/2008 07:40

Great advice JW. And I am mostly loving being pregnant. Seeing the scan yesterday was just amazing! And we both enjoy when I the next week starts and I go running for the book to see how developed it is! Its our weekly ritual!!

johnworf · 17/12/2008 08:37

Ah yes, the milestones Your next biggy will be movement and that's very exciting. And of course your next scan you'll see how hugely different LO is! Crikey, I'm almost getting broody myself here.....eeeeeeeeeek!

ermintrude13 · 17/12/2008 08:47

Last night I threw up in the loo, flushed, looked again and decided it needed another flush, at which point my mobile fell out of my dressing gown pocket straight into the floating bits. Picked it up, rinsed it and took it apart to dry but it's dead dead dead. DH has taken the day off work so we can go to town, find him a present, buy a tree and some new decs and have lunch out. Will have to spend the first hour buying another bloomin' phone! Grrrrrr. . Still, I suppose I'll look back on this and laugh. In a few years' time...

johnworf · 17/12/2008 09:42

ermintrude it is quite funny My niece also did the same but her phone fell out of her jeans in the loo and her mum said she'd done a number 2 so you can imagine the rest....

Nice day you have planned there I see. I was going to say wish I could get out for lunch as well but just remembered I'm meeting up with my older 3 tomorrow for our xmas lunch. Just us 4 DH will be at home with K. Anyway I can relax when it's just us 4 with all the 'in' jokes and reminiscing..never the same when there's an outsider there as well.

Look on the bright side. You get a new phone! Yay!

When I said on previous post I almost felt broody, that's now been quickly fixed by ermintrude reminding me of the morning sickness. There. No broodiness left. Cheers!!!!

jeanjeannie · 17/12/2008 09:48

Morning all. In a mood this morning. Have decided lack of sleep has made me look ten years older. Am feeling that ridiculous South African woman with the glasses (hambledon Jones?) breathing down my neck and mocking my wardrobe!!

ermintrude you can laugh about it in a few years' time. Can I laugh about it NOW? Too late - I have already

LOs over to play with Iris this afternoon and then someone for dinner tonight. Will my stint in the kitchen ever end...??!!

Am just about to buy DP his xmas pressie and yes- he wants the only tool Bag not in the sale......

ermintrude13 · 17/12/2008 09:49

JW I have a few friends who have started clucking gently, but then think of my 9pm bedtime armed with bucket and repeat the mantra 'Remember the bucket, remember the bucket, remember the bucket...' Seems to be working.

I don't want a new phone! You can't get one that doesn't have a satnav infra-red laserbeam satellite i-camera coffee-maker feature and I just want to call and text, like we did in the old days. Bah!

Tee2072 · 17/12/2008 10:05

Okay, I'm laughing, ermintrude! And you can still get a phone that just texts and phones, I have one! Its a Siemens from Orange.

Tee2072 · 17/12/2008 10:16

I forgot to say, if anyone wants to see my scan pics, they are in my blog!

jeanjeannie · 17/12/2008 10:25

Get a 'builders' phone. My DP has one (being a builder!) and they're indistructable - and do very little too. DP loves it! So do the kids!!

Am going to bake a cake, play with the kids and check out your pics tee

johnworf · 17/12/2008 11:18

Blimey. Seems a lifetime ago that I was looking at K's scan pic Lovely pics tee and as I said, next one you'll be amazed at how your LO has changed (and grown!).

ermintrude I have ye olde mobile phone too. It was made by Oliver Cromwell. All it does is ring and text. Not even in colour! No blue tooth or any other fanciness. DH still can't work it though

I'm not really clucky. I'm still getting up the odd night when I shouldn't be. Mooching around in the dark, grumbling obscenities under my breath, stubbing toe etc etc. Why on earth would I want to do it all over again? I'm holding that thought and running with it.........

JJ why are you entertaining when really you need a lie down? And get you and your fancy tool bag (is that a euphemism btw for a man thong or something?)

I've called an embargo on buying xmas presents now. I've already bought far too much...that's it.. finito!

don't tempt me anymore oh evil interweb...

mrsboogie · 17/12/2008 12:29

blimey tee that's a fancy blog, lovely scan pics - much clearer than mine were - your LO is obviously going to be photogenic doesn't seem long since I was looking at our pics and sending silent wishes to his little fickering heart to keep on beating. Well, he was a good boy and did what mummy wished.

and stop y'all with this broody talk - I didn't have any morning sickness so I don't have that defense mechanism to stop my brain from wanting to do it again!

just been for D's second set of jabs.
nurse said she couldn't believe he was only 14 weeks as he seems much older because he was sat up looking round at everything and grinning his head off at her (not for long tho)

still there's only one more lot to go and then no more til he's 12 months.

OP posts:
johnworf · 17/12/2008 12:40

aye mrsb the dreaded jabs. We're all done with them until 12 months. Apart from the monthly ones

mrsboogie · 17/12/2008 12:57

what monthly ones jw ?

OP posts:
johnworf · 17/12/2008 14:12

The bronchiolitis !

mrsboogie · 17/12/2008 15:50

oh. didn't realise it was every month. Poor K. Still, better than the alternative.

OP posts:
johnworf · 17/12/2008 16:15

Well it's every month until February. Costs too much - £500 a jab - and also the bronchiolitis season starts to decline March and then starts off again in September.

Yep, better than the alternative.

I'm being santa today and delivering prezzies to all....well, family members. Lovely. I get my loft back. So I'm off out this evening. Woot! See how excited I get over nothing?

My DD#1 tells me that all the chocolate in Tesco is reduced to half price so may have a drive by gorging session later methinks.

mrsboogie · 17/12/2008 16:35

£500 a shot? wow! but she's worth it

well, we have finished our Christmas present buying just this very afternoon. Had to go to Marks' to get sis's bf some carpet slippers. OH was horrified at the "old man"ness of them especially given the bf is only a couple of years older than him and made me carry them to the till.

Still got to wrap the lot though.
Tree arriving courtesy of OH's mum on Friday. That's OH's last day at work 'til Jan so wahoo!

although the time at home for me and the little man all alone just we two is fast running out

good to hear you're warm again hedgepig

OP posts:
johnworf · 17/12/2008 20:46

Crikey mrsb you're not back until Feb are you? It has squizzed by hasn't it?

Just chuckling at your OH and the old man slippers. I've asked my kids for slippers..good old fashioned ones that stay on my feet. They bought me some backless ones for my b'day and they keep falling off when I come down the stairs so they're a bad H&S risk! Yep, I'm an old lady who likes old lady slippers.

Got rid of quite a lot of prezzies but I'm keeping back my older 3's until xmas eve as then it really seems like xmas as I deliver them to them at home.

Taking DS#1 and DD#1 out for lunch tomorrow. DS#2 can't make it as he has college work to get in...then off with DS#1 to take him for his big xmas shop around Tesco's...whick I've offered to buy Are you lot with young ones taking note of what you have to fork out in around 18 years time?????? I don't mind really though...always there to help them out as and when I can - usually involves a cheque though. I'm hoping they'll all look after me in my dotage

mrsboogie · 17/12/2008 21:52

mid Feb jw - it'll be here before we know it. I never would have believed I would be like this - thought I would be dying to get back but five months seems so young to be leaving him with strangers. Boo hoo. Dreading it. Don't want anyone else looking after my little man but me.

Golly but you are a generous mum jw. Bet your DCs think you are the bees knees

OP posts:
johnworf · 18/12/2008 07:45

Well, he's at uni and trying to make his way in the big world. Every little helps as they say. I just don't want him spending all his uni hours working overtime at work to meet the bills. He's in his second year now so half way there to finishing. I'm sure when he's got a 6 figure salary he'll be thinking of ways to pay his old mum back (probably not!) Plus I couldn't bear to think of him not having anything in over xmas and not letting on. Main reason I've offered really.

I suppose when you think about it February isn't that far off. Poor you. Don't envy you at all although I might do in 18 months time when you're off to work getting a break from the tants and I'm here ripping my hair out! It's funny what you said about anyone looking after him but you...my mum had my daughter at 6 weeks when I went back to work and it really didn't bother me back then. I was glad to go back but I had no choice as we needed the money. Now, I'm like you. I don't even want a night out as I don't think I could leave her with a babysitter at the mo

On the plus side, at least the creche is at work and you can go and see him when you like

lilibet · 18/12/2008 09:13

Remember me? Sorry I have been absent for almost a week but it's been chaos chez moi!

I've spent the first hour of my working day catching up( no wonder the NHS is in trouble!)

MrsB you have the same birthday as my dd - but she was 20

JJ you have truly gorgeous girls.

Would anyone like to buy a 12yr old boy? Or at least have him on a long term loan until he turns 20? Ds2 has turned into a mightly pain in the arse, he is cheeky, sullen, and I want my nice little boy back! I know it's his age but it's still bloody horrid!

johnworf · 18/12/2008 09:17

lilibet nice to see you back here dear

'fraid that all the symptoms your 12yo are displaying are very normal for his age. They go to bed as a sweet 12 year old and wake up one morning tranformed into a teenage monster. It does wear off as you know...but it takes about 8 years
