JJ so sorry to hear that you're dying with tiredness. No idea how you're managing to carry on through the day. As I said before I would have been on the hunt to smash someones face in and OOOOH LOOK it's the Sure Start woman! She would have been a prime candidate with the crap that she was spewing. Btw, my MW warned me that HV's and those of that ilk are 'biggest scaremongers that walked God's earth'. Those were the MW's words not mine. She told me as we had our parting chat on Monday not to get hung up on what they tell me and to go with my gut feeling (or even if in doubt, ring the SCBU). So, why didn't you tell her to go f**k herself? Go on...you're worth it I know you wanna....hehe.

If I'd lived nearer to you JJ I would have taken Iris off for an hour to the park and given you a few zzzzzzzzzzz's but by the time I've loaded up the Doblo-mobile, zoomed very slowly down the motorways and reached you, it'll be Boxing Day and you won't need me

'Who's that cheeky little feller,
All dressed in red and yeller?
It's Jo - Jo Jingles - walking down the street
It's Jo - Jo Jingles - it's a mooosical treeeeat'.

Yuk, that brings back awful memories of a big red-faced woman in a yellow, sorry, yeller tee-shirt bouncing about in front of a group of kids including ds aged 2, who used to leave the group and play at banging the heating pipes at the back of the room while I sat there like a lemon, playing the triangle and singing in an unnaturally high voice. [Shudder]

mrsboogie · 16/12/2008 16:44

eeek I don't know what this jo-jingles business is but I don't like the sound of it!

So had my scan. It was wonderful. The baby waved at us! I'll scan the pics and put them up tomorrow, I haven't a scanner at home!

Than had a very serious, slightly scary conversation with the OB about Downs. I have decided to do both the Triple Test and a Genetic Scan. Then I have to decide what to do from there. I am leaning towards keeping the baby no matter what. Simon is undecided right now. I am also curious how it works in NI, anyway, as terminations are illegal here.

So lots to think about!

johnworf · 16/12/2008 17:58

Tee glad that you had your scan and everything was ok so far. It's all worry this baby lark you know! Really annoyed that you were scared by the Downs chat. They should not do that to you. How many of us on this thread are over 40 and have down's child? Exactly. The odds are still small although there is obviously the possibility. Don't let the tests tinge what should be a happy occasion.

Hadn't realised that terminations were illegal in NI. Obviously they are in the south but very surprised they are in the north too. Wouldn't dwell on that too much right now. Enjoy your little baby now you've seen him/her.

Why don't you book yourself in quick for a nuchal? You've got about a week before it's too late I think? It's non invasive and you'll find out there and then unless you choose to have the scan and the bloods done and have to wait 24 hours for results. Tis up to you of course......

Jo-jingles sounds something akin to Chuckie.

poo ....posted twice. sorreee

ermintrude13 · 16/12/2008 17:59

Tee, glad all looked well on the scan. Presumably they did the nuchal fold measurement there and then? That should give you a reasonable idea of whether to go ahead with more testing.

johnworf · 16/12/2008 18:04

JJ found this and I want!

Tee2072 · 16/12/2008 18:45

No, they didn't do the nuchal fold scan. I have to wait for the Genetic Clinic to come back with an early scan date, although the OB thought it would be fairly soon. I am having a triple test done on 5th January, so that will at least give us some indication.

johnworf · 16/12/2008 19:21

tee if you're going to have the nuchal transluscency then you have to be quick. I think the maximum you can go to is 13 weeks and 6 days. After that they won't do it.

My hospital didn't do it on the NHS and I know a lot won't but I think there are some that do. I booked in for one privately but in the end I didn't have it done (but that was for me and I'm not saying that is right for you).

Please don't get too worried about it all though. They tried it on with me at clinic but I just stood my ground.

jeanjeannie · 16/12/2008 19:37

tee how lovely, you got to see your little one And he/she waved.....so sweeeeet!!!

Don't worry unduely about the Downs risk. I ended up with a 1 in 2 odds of both Downs and Edwards. Horrible situation. But, as you can see - Verity is just fine-and-dandy. However - testing is purely your perogative. We just wanted to know, but for some people - they just don't care- and that's cool Do they still do the triple test in NI ? I know they've dropped it here in Bucks and other places in the UK as there are way too many false positives. I favour the nuchal fold scan with bloods...swift and done before 14 weeks so no messing around!

ermintrude I am PMSL@ at your beautiful description of a Jo-Jingles session...Oh you've sooooo been there. Love the idea of your DS going off to bang the heating pipes. Iris enjoys the leaflets display stand and can't be prized away until she's distributed info on Free Meal Vouchers to Family Credits to everyone in the room

JW why, thank you for your offer of help. I love the idea of the Doblo-mobile loaded up - you and Katharine bouncing along like something out of Wacky Races We 'load' up the Berlingo like it's a storage facility on wheels...muttering 'we bought it for the space, so let's use it...blah, blah, blah.' Mind you - I am expecting to go out there one day and find that i'm going to have to use a front crank to get it going while shouting 'THIS made it to the Top ,Cool Wall

Night in with me and the girls - DP has gone to help a friend move furniture. Am hoping for a peaceful eve...

jeanjeannie · 16/12/2008 19:41

tee yep - jw is right - 13+6 for a nuchal scan as after that it's a wait till 20 weeks. Also if you want testing to make sure, you've only got till 14 for the CVS after that it's a wait till 16wks for the amnio and then a two week wait for the results.

No freebie scan here either - had to pay. Glad we did in hindsight. But, you know what - the odds are soooo slim it's not worth stressing over too much! x

Tee2072 · 16/12/2008 19:42

JW since I am 13 weeks today and they offered me a genetic scan, which I think includes nuchal, it must be longer than 13 weeks 6 days, because some how I don't think I'll be having it before Christmas!

And yes, they will be doing a triple test as well.

jeanjeannie · 16/12/2008 19:54

Gosh tee they do it very differently in NI. Never heard of a gentic scan. I went to the man who invented the nuchal scan and he told me that after 13+6 the nuchal fold measurment becomes fairly irrelevant as it can look very large but indicate nothing.

Mind you - look at me - our fold was huge/bloods were awful and he told us 'it's as bad as it can get without confirmation'....and it was fine. So - c'est la vie!!

jeanjeannie · 16/12/2008 19:59

On a completely different note - SHOPPING!! Gosh - I've just looked at this new London Shopping Centre in Shepherd's Bush - it's HUGE. There's a Tiffanys in there Plus there is a Hollister (Abercrombie defusion brand) and I love their tops as they are nice and long - no flashing belly button!Didn't even know they were in the UK! Me thinks a trip down the road is in order

FLORIAinexcelsisdeo · 16/12/2008 20:06

Helloooo![FT;Peeks head round the door sheepishly]I have been occasionally lurking but not posting( laptop-less for a couple of weeks and then totally run off my feet). No way I'll catch up thoroughly, I hope I didnt miss too much but I wanted to get back on to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (while I have the chance) . Wonderful to read of your good scan result Tee how lovely to be waved to..I had a nuchal done at 11+4 wks but turned down everything else as wouldn't have done anything about it but everyone has to make the decision that is right for them....oh and I think you have fab taste in b&w films JW and hope Santa slips that set in your stocking.

johnworf · 16/12/2008 20:07

I've never heard of a genetic scan either so maybe it's the nuchal...although I was told when I booked mine by the sonographer that the scan isn't as good on it's own as it is with the bloods (obviously). Yes, after 13+6 then it all becomes inaccurate due to sizing (I think).

Not sure of when the triple test is. Is it 16 weeks? JJ you might have already put when it is but I'm being very lazy tonight.

Can't believe how much K has slept today. She's been a bit sniffly so not sure if she's sleeping something off. But she wouldn't go to sleep until 2am last night so I think we've got night and day mixed up again. Sighs. That could mean another late one again tonight.....I'll meet you for coffee around 1.30 am JJ Your place or mine?

When we used to take DH's dad out we used his blue disabled badge in the Doblo. It's just so made for old people and wheelchairs. I should hire it out to ring and ride

johnworf · 16/12/2008 20:10

Hey! Floria! LTNS I see we have another Ealing fan in our midst.

I hope I get it as well. Hours of fun in that box

jeanjeannie · 16/12/2008 20:15

Jw See you later - come to mine - fire up the Doblo and bring the Ealing Box set with you

Floria good lord old bean - lovely to hear from you. Seasons greetings to you as well. I often wonder about your Mother's pesky mink Pop by when you can!!

Tee2072 · 16/12/2008 20:17

I just did a quick google search on Genetic Ultrasound and it would appear to be a 4D scan done later in the 2nd trimester. It is apparently very detailed and done in conjunction with the triple test in most instances.

It appears to be fairly new and instigated in the US just about 10 years ago. I am not surprised that I was offered it, as the NICU at the Royal Jubilee Maternity, where I will be giving birth, is rated in the top 5 of the UK.

jeanjeannie · 16/12/2008 20:22

Ahhhhh- that solves the mystery. Gosh - that sounds like a superb hospital....luck you

hedgepig · 16/12/2008 20:33

Hi Tee congrats on the scan (I'm going all soppy @ the thought of a little beannie ). If any one catches me going broody remind me my family is complete!

The big news is we have HEAT AND HOT WATER hurrah it is so fantastic. It only took the guy 5 mins to fix once he was here just disconnect the old bit and re-connect the replacement. If I'd know what was wrong with it I could have fixed it myself rather than waiting 2 days .

Evening Floria lovely to hear from you again.

Ermintrude you have bought the hell which is Jo Jingles flooding back ekkk Ben just used to sleep through it so I felt obliged to sing along and bang a triangle too even with an asleep baby on my lap. I don't think I will sign up with Ollie.

ermintrude13 · 16/12/2008 20:45

Sorry for the unpleasant Jo Jingles flashbacks, hedgepig and JJ. They catch me when I least expect it but I am, slowly, finding ways of putting the whole grueome experience behind me.. . I'm afraid this 3rd dc will not be musically encouraged in the same way...

Tee 250:1 translates as a 99.6% chance of having a baby who does NOT have Downs. Try not to get too anxious and just think of that wave!

JJ I think your story is amazing and greatly admire your fortitude! A friend of mine had slightly lower odds than you but still worrying, decided against further tests and gave birth to a healthy child with no chromosomal disorders who is now 11. Statistics aren't prophecies, thank goodness.

jeanjeannie · 16/12/2008 21:14

hedepig so pleased you're all now warm and clean

Gosh - Jo Jingles really does seemed to have scarred people! I was just so pleased that I had a spare change of clothes at today's session as Verity decided to unleash yesterdays carrot meal all over her leggings and top She was getting on down in an over-excited manner when she let rip. It was parsnip for dinner today - at least that's creamy white and we're not venturing out in public tomorrow

Hot choccy - bit of country house rescue on the box - fuss the cat and then bed. How pleasing.
