Hell, I've just found out I'm expecting No. 3 mid November, and am very excited. A bit scared too - I can't remember a thing! How can I possibly have done this twice already??? Hope more of you can join me soon!

Rachael17 - me again!!

I just did a search on your posting name and I see you had your scan a couple of weeks ago. You should be about 14 weeks now?? That's normally when morning sickness eases off. Mine did then. A few more weeks and you'll be feeling all those little flutters!

StripyMouse · 27/05/2003 08:23

1stimer - hope the meeting with the husband went as well as it could and that talking it through helped to give you both some sense of closure. Hopefully you can now start to look forward and concentrate fully on you and the baby - after all, there is plenty of exciting times ahead. Best Wishes.

Rachael17 - if you are around the end of the first trimester, losing all those pregnancy symptoms that you cursed only a few weeks ago (sore boobs, nausea etc.) is very very normal. If you feel the need to check with a doctor or midwife, then do it - it is part of their job to support mums to be through all pregnancy related issues, especially first time mums and c ould make you feel more relaxed about it. Otherwise, don?t panic and start to enjoy the next phase of your pregnancy with (hopefully) a bit more energy and feeling more healthy. The next three months are often the best three months of the pregnancy (the end can leave you feeling a bit heavy, tired and uncomfortable for some). Another thought - some women are sick 24/7 for 9 months....much easier if it eases off after 3 so feel happy that the symptoms are dying down. Soon you will have a big bump and feel movements that will never let you forget just how pregnant you are! Hope that cheers you up...

WideWebWitch · 27/05/2003 09:56

Rachel, I agree with everyone, go and see the midwives if you can, they should be able to reassure you. 1stimer, I hope the meeting went as well as can be expected, what an awful experience.

How is everyone else? Especially the vomiters! Rhubarb, have you stopped puking? And you susanmt, tinyfeet and allatsea? Grommit and zippyb, glad your scans went ok. How come everyone's been told to have a full bladder at scans? I didn't have to for my nuchal fold, any idea why anyone? The leaflets positively told you not to bother with a full bladder in fact. Monkey, how are you doing? We haven't seen you on this thread in a while...

I'm 15 weeks this week which seems a bit unbelieveable really and I'm feeling OK except for dog-tiredness bang on 4pm every day, without fail. Hmm, nicely timed for ds getting home from school, why couldn't it be at a time of day when I can sleep? But I feel happy and slightly excited and can't wait to feel the baby move, maybe not long now.

elliott · 27/05/2003 12:04

zippyb and grommit, good news about your scans!

www, any more thoughts/progress on the home birth issue?

I'm 13 weeks today! - breathing a huge sigh of relief now I can really start to BELIEVE it...

grommit · 27/05/2003 12:12

WWW - I was told to have a full bladder for my nuchal scan - difficult to judge full and about to burst . No idea why!
Elliott - I'm too much of a scaredy cat to consider home birth - I like the idea of drs and surgeons being close in case of problems... There is a midwife run birthing unit near me which sounds like a happy medium...

1stimer · 28/05/2003 05:22

Thanks everyone for the support, the meeting was not good and set me back again (cried all weekend!), but all over now and getting on to enjoying the pregnancy.

Can't remember who it was that was asking about the baby beat but found out some more interesting details, apparently the sound can reverberate inside and is very loud for baby so sometimes they will kick at it, or hide! very cute i thought but I guess the answer is not to use it too often!?

sprout · 28/05/2003 07:59

Well, just a quick post to say that I've now reached 16 weeks, and doctor has finally decided on due date of 11/11, which is at least easy to remember. Feel absolutely huge, and wore maternity trousers to work yesterday for the first time. Really frumpy, but wonderfully comfortable! Off to a holiday in Greece for the next ten days . Not exactly relaxing with dd aged 3, but much better than sitting in the office. Just have to remain strong-willed enough to keep off the Greek salad (too risky for toxoplasmosis apparently ) and the wine at the wedding...

StripyMouse · 29/05/2003 08:48

Sprout - I have also been given the 11th of September !! TBH I am hoping that this one won?t be so accurate (dd born on due date) as Sept.11th has such sad memories connected with it but as you say, at least it is memorable! I have also given up wearing normal clothes and feel huge already - nice to know i am not the only one. I just wish I was off on holiday too! You lucky thing, hope you have a relaxing break. I doubt very much we will be getting away this year as money is tight and we are doing up our house. As I don?t work (from choice) I don?t feel in a position to complain though as dh works every hour God sends making ends meet. Enough self pity! Not feeling sick at all any more and starting to feel more relaxed about things so not all bad. Now I just want my bump to start looking like a baby bump rather than 2 stone of flab wobbling around my middle!!

allatsea · 29/05/2003 09:25

Thank goodness for you Sprout and Stripymouse I moved into maternity clothes yesterday and although I felt huge, at least it was more comfortable than wedging myself into 'normal clothes' Roll on November!

allatsea · 29/05/2003 11:52

Thank goodness for you Sprout and Stripymouse I moved into maternity clothes yesterday and although I felt huge, at least it was more comfortable than wedging myself into 'normal clothes' Roll on November!

grommit · 29/05/2003 12:32

Allatsea - I am only 13 weeks and need to make that move. With dd I did not need maternity wear until about 20 weeks. Terrified of how huge I am going to get !!!!! At least with maternity wear people realise you are pg and not just fat

Rachael17 · 29/05/2003 16:33

StripyMouse · 01/06/2003 10:55

sprout - don?t know why I wrote September 11th - I meant Nov 11th. Also sad but for different (albeit similar) reasons. My brain is definitely suffering during this pregnancy. I type and say alternative words without even realising it - eg. when dh asked me where I had put the milk I said "have you tried the shed?" - meant the fridge, but my sarcastic tone trying to state the obvious just created even more problems. I also am doing weird things that is beyond absentmindedness and is just stupid. Yesterday I did one load of washing, took it out of the machine then carefully loaded the same washing back in to wash all over again instead of pegging out - why? Dh says that he isn?t sure I am safe to drive anymore as I am so vague and forgetful - I think he may have a point!

StripyMouse · 01/06/2003 11:00

Rachael17 - so pleased to see that life is a bit better for you at the moment. It really helps to have friends and family around you for support at any time let alone when you are pregnant. Sounds like you are more organised than me on the shopping front. I haven?t bought a thing yet but then as this baby is number 2 I won?t need too much. I am still a bit cautious and superstitious so can?t bring myself to go in Mothercare yet. Maybe after the 20 week scan I will totally relax and feel confident enough to think properly about life after the birth. At the moment concentrating on each weekly milestone and considering birth plan options is as much as I can bring myself to do.

WideWebWitch · 01/06/2003 20:47

Stripymouse, IKWYM about being dippy. I slightly scraped a car while pulling out of my space at the supermarket today (never done this before in my life) and cried torrents when the other driver pointed it out and asked for my details. He wasn't even horrible or anything. A passing policeman came over, put both arms on my shoulders and said 'there, there love, I went through this with my wife when she was pregnant, you sure you're ok to drive?" I'm not sure I am actually! Nightmare! And embarrassing

1stimer · 01/06/2003 20:53

I'm the same as you stripymouse, haven't done any baby shopping yet, due date 9th November, I guess after the 20 week scan. Pleased to hear that all of you guys are wearing maternity, as almost impossible for me to squeeze into my 'normal' clothes!
Am actually feeling full of energy and not sick at all now, which of course had the paranoid side affect of me thinking that there was something wrong with the baby...had a listen on the baby beat thou and bump's still there heartbeat going strong!
It's funny I don't know whether it is because this is the first but I haven't really hit the excitement stage yet...maybe when bump starts moving properly, dp seems more excited!

1stimer · 01/06/2003 20:58

www, I know exactly how you feel have felt the need to burst into tears at any given moment, (at least there is a reason for the tears - no need for embarassment).
I guess as we all know this is something that is naturally going to happen and we just have to except it and go with the feelings, at least its not such a big scrape. Nice that the policeman was so nice thou?!

StripyMouse · 02/06/2003 10:32

www - you poor thing, i am sure i would have cried as well, but then i am really good at crying during pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I took my car for it?s mot test and it failed over a few minor things. I had asked them to fix anything minor if they had the parts as I really wanted it to pass - they were too busy/couldn?t be arsed - and so I got really angry unnecesarily, went bright red when I realised they were all staring at me and cried hysterically. They had to phone my dh to come and pick me up as I was too embarrassed/upset to walk the 15 mins home!! Whoops - I am blushing now remembering that one.
1stimer - after the initial shock and excitement of finding out i was pregnant, last time I didn?t get excited until the baby moved so much that I could actually see it moving as well as feel it. Then it really hit home when I went on the tour of the hospital and was shown the labour ward. It was the glimpse into the mother?s ward with several mums sitting holding brand new babies that got me really excited and it hit home. I went home and cried and then celebrated! It was an amazing feeling - suddenly it all felt real. I am still waiting for that euphoria to hit home with this one but have plenty of time for it to become "real".

grommit · 02/06/2003 11:09

has anyone considered buying a fetal heart monitor? I was so paranoid last time I thought this might be a good idea to put my mind at rest or is this a bit OTT??

chanelno5 · 02/06/2003 13:53

grommit - i would love one, but they're too expensive. i take my mind off worrying by eating. i'm eating lemon sorbet now with my other hand, hence the lack of capitals!

grommit · 02/06/2003 14:42

Chanelno5 - sounds like a good idea (typing with one hand and eating choc chip muffin with other)
Know how much they are?

Rhubarb · 02/06/2003 15:54

Well my sickness has gone and I feel more or less back to normal, apart from the bump, and sore boobs. Mine is due 11th Dec but I have a feeling it will be earlier. Don't know if I will feel it moving until quite late on as I keep getting 'wind bubbles' if you know what I mean!
Does anyone have any good remedies for hayfever?

monkey · 02/06/2003 16:21

www - my sympathies - horrible emough at the best of times. Are you feeling ok now?

Grommit - do you mean those with headphones to use while pg, or those mats to put under matress when baby is born?

For 1st pg I got one to listen in-utro & I have to say it was a bad buy. luckily the shop took it back & I got a refund. It turned me even more obsessive than I already was/am, but more seriously, it wasn't that good & coul;dn't always pick up the beat, so I ended up worrying myself stupid several times. I think they're only really effective once you're past about 20 weeks, by which point you can feel it moving anyway. I know some find them reassuring, but it had totally the opposite effect for me.

Anyway, just to share - I had my next docs appointment today & dh came too & we had a really long scan - saw all the fingers and toes lots of wriggling - it was VERY active, sucking it's thumb, yawning, the lot. Can't believe I'm not even half way through, though that's probably a good thing, because it looked so perfect. What a brilliant start to the day, especially as dh could come. Can't wait to meet my little Schlumpfli!!!!!!!!

Good luck to everyone coming up to their next appointments & scans.

Glad to hear you're feeling better Rhubarb.

grommit - I have recently bought a monitor off ebay (brand new, wholesale) and it is brilliant. It was fairly expensive but worth every penny. I was worried that it could be tricky to find a beat and that this might make me worry. We have used it several times a day since about week 14 and have never failed to locate the baby?s heart beat - sometimes it can take a while (about 10 mins in the longest stretch) but we have never failed. It is also fasinating - you can hear the whooshing of the placenta working as well as picking up the baby kicking the monitor...if you can, go for it! If you want, i could give details of my model if any use.
