Hi all:

I have a question for you - what was it like telling people about your current pregnancy after having had a scare?

I'm from NY and we're going to visit my family next week for Thanksgiving. I'll only be 5+ weeks, and ordinarily wouldn't tell everyone, BUT I can't be there and not tell them all. Most of my immediate family will be absolutely thrilled no matter how I tell them. But there are a few people who might not know how to react. I can't not tell them either as they will be people attending dinner and I know my nan and my mother won't be able to shut up about it. I just imagine it might be slightly awkward...

herbaceous · 19/11/2008 15:54

Hi girls

Just off for my third scan - should be 8+5 or thereabouts. Send your positive vibes my way!

Back soon to tell all, and to actually respond to some others for a change!

lastboxoftampons · 19/11/2008 15:57

Good luck herbaceous Fingers crossed for a lovely scan!!!!

cece · 19/11/2008 16:19

oh yes good luck herb, hope it is all well.

LackaDAISYcal · 19/11/2008 16:40

Just a quick hello from me, to catch up with everyone and say Hi to all the newbies

Ladylush, hope things have settled down re the spotting. I'm keeping everything crossed for you here (now that I can cross my legs again )

all the february ladies....hope you are all well; it'll be here before you know it (especially as it'll be my 40th on the 1st; it is rushing towards me at a rate of knots!!)

sussexoldspot; so sorry to hear your news , but it's good that you are still finding this thread useful. TTCers are knicker checkers too!!

kate; good to see you posting again and good luck with the TTC

We are doing OK here, but my young lad has got Colic so our evenings and nights are pretty terrible. Have tried infacol and dentinox and seen the cranial osteopath to no avail. Got some colief drops today and will see if those work. I'm also going to try being dairy free (or at least get that lactofree milk). I hope it's just a passing phase or that our measures work as the sleep deprivation is starting to get to me!

Ooops, baby stirring again.

Good Lcuk to all and I'll try and pop in again soon.

some pics of the young man on my profile

lizzie9442 · 19/11/2008 16:56

maz - do you know who I would have to speak to if i wanted an early scan? could I ring the early pregnancy unit direct?

MoominMoma · 19/11/2008 17:11

I had my blood test results today. I am pregnant, they are saying six and a bit weeks. Off to the Drs on Monday evening to get booked in for the midwife etc. Trying hard not to get too excited after last time. Have stopped bleeding so the Dr has said to leave an early scan for now.

maz32 · 19/11/2008 17:27

lizzie my community midwife arranged it, so just give yours a buzz, although i had a friend who asked her midwife and the midwife said no way! so she waited a few days and rang her midwife back saying she had pain!! so got one that way. if you tell your midwife its affecting your everyday life and you cant stop worrying i think as part of patient care a reassurance scan is not asking to ,uch? good luck xx

lizzie9442 · 19/11/2008 17:47

thanks maz thats a great help will give them a call tomorrow see what they say.

Wheelybug · 19/11/2008 18:03

Hi All

Good luck Herby - thinking of you.

Ladylush - glad things have settled down. I think thrush is probably a good (if irritating) sign.

Moomin - great news

Lackadaisy - good to see you. Sorry to hear ds has colic but he looks gorgeous !

GrinningBee - there is a rather large number of girls on the March thread isn't there (another March here). I am so far, a surprise so don't if that means all us surprrises are going to have boys or if girls will just rule. When dd was born everyone had girls too (my nct group was 7 girls, 2 boys and the boys were 2 of the last out so we thought everyone was going to have girls).

Good luck getting an eartly scan Lizzie - I wasn't allowed one of the nhs and was told 'if there's a problem you'll be bleeding' . Thanks ! So, don't be surprised if you do come up against it but hopefully your midwife will be more accomodating (mine was a gp and one I don't have much faith in).

Lastbox - we told a few people v. early on (family and friend we were on holiday with). We did it very matter of factly - 'v. early days, could all still go wrong'. Everyone was pleased but kept their excitement to themselves for our sakes.

Ladyhelen - could your twinges be round ligament pain ? I get pains if I bend suddenly or change position too quickly - they're quite sharp. If it sounds like this they're nothing to worry about (although of course, its difficult not to).

Nothing to report here except I threw up my breakfast this morning (having already thrown up pre-breakfast). Am assuming that at 24 weeks tomorrow ( ) its here to stay. At least its not every day though as it was. Anyway, am sure you all wanted to know about the workings of my digestive system....

dan39 · 19/11/2008 18:12

Lacks hello! Sorry about the colic, yukky, hope it passes soon and yuou get some sleep!

Lastbox echo Wheely, we decided not to tell ple but then at work I had to take time to go for scan due to bleeding so cat out of bag - we did the 'early days' speech with others and tbh with ourselves too to cope with possible disappointment.

Lizzie it must depend where you are - my GP referred me, but then later (at 9 weeks) when I got another one at EPU they said that would replace the 12 week one as a dating scan, there was no chance I could have gone 9 - 20 so I paid for the 12 week one which was £70. But this differs, from reading on here, like re whether you have a private clinic near?

Fingers still crossed for herb.

lizzie9442 · 19/11/2008 18:15

Hi not sure if I have a private clinic near but I am hopeing I will get seen sooner than 9 weeks. Just so paranoid and would love the reassurance. I have been having cramps the last few days which doesnt help but I know this is probably where I'm stretching down there. I'm also not feeling anywhere near as sick as I have in all my other pregnancies. I just hope its ok.

ladylush · 19/11/2008 19:28

Herby - hope all went well today. Please let us know.
Daisy - sorry to hear about the colic. My ds had it as well. I was bf and got fed up of people saying it doesn't happen to bf babies. It's such a miserable time and it put dh and I under a lot of pressure. I think peppermint tea may have helped a bit (me drinking it)and avoiding acidic food. Hope it calms down soon. We took ds to a cranial osteopath too but didn't work.
Wheely - sorry about the sickness Did you get sick in your pg with dd?

herbaceous · 19/11/2008 19:34

Hello!

Once more, can't stay, as DP wants me downstairs destroying cupboards. Long story.

Anyway, everything's great! (S)he is now 20mm, and has doubled in size in a week! Statistically, she said miscarriage now unlikely. Been here before of course, but trying to think of this as a clean slate...

ladylush · 19/11/2008 19:37

Great news Herby Positive thoughts, positive thoughts Don't overdo the DIY though.

Wheelybug · 19/11/2008 19:43

great news herby - although saw your post in 'threads I'm on' and just read 'once more, can't stay' and thought you meant on this thread and it was bad news.... my heart plummeted. Glad its just DH's demands though !

Ladylush - I was sick with dd from week 10-13 once a week, then everyday until about 18 weeks then it disappeared. This time it was everyday from week 9-19 (with nausea 7-9) and then a couple of times a week since week 19. So similar to with dd but a bit more. Generally my pregnancy symptoms have been more exagerated this time round but that's probably because I didn't get much at all except the above with dd. Its only ever first thing in the morning and usually stomach acid so its not too inconvenient although have pregnancy gingivitis which I suspect is accacerbated by the stomach acid. A small price to pay though really so mustn't grumble...

ladylush · 19/11/2008 19:52

You poor thing. I only got sick twice with ds and was fine after week 13. Now feeling queasy in the morning and around 4pm onwards - usually relieved by eating. Think it might be related to blood sugar fluctuation in my case.

maz32 · 19/11/2008 21:10

lizzie, did your unit say anything wen u had your miscarriage, cos just say to your midwife the unit said i mite be able to get an early scan, i know its rubbish that it depends where you live! we arent offered any of the nucheal scans etc but id i lived 15miles up the road its free, for us its about 200 pounds i think. gud luck tomorrow wen u ring, let us know how it goes xx

scotlass · 19/11/2008 21:27

Would love to stay and post but am unable to keep my eyes open for a minute longer. have had 2 full on days with work then parents evening last night and DD's rehearsal tonight. I keep thinking how on earth am I going to cope with a new baby on top - bizarre to be panicking now after the shennanigans of last year!

Have made it to 18wks! Am seriously going insane with nerves though. Why do I still feel like it is all going to go wrong again? I honestly thought I'd be calmer by now.

Anyway, great news Herby am chuffed to bits for you.

wheely poor you still being sick - I heaved a huge sigh of relief when the nausea bit passed.

lastbox I found it really hard talking about this pg after losing the last 3. It always went I'm pg but it might not last. Even now every man and his dog is finding out thanks to the oracle that is DD I have to stop myself from saying thanks for your congratulations but I'm a recurrent miscarrier and could lose this baby , think that would be slightly impolite so try desperately to keep my mouth shut and say thank-you!

grinning bee definately girls are stronger than boys . I remember being really hurt when my MIL said to DH after my 1st mc 'maybe she can't carry boys'. Thought she was talking shite as usual at the time but am kind of wondering if there is something in it. Will fall off the couch if sonographer tells me it's a boy in 2wks time. I am convinced I'm having a girl.

OK off to search internet for a posh evening frock for xmas ball in 3wks - will be 21wks 2nd baby - do I go for maternity or squeeze into long skirt from coast I've already got and buy a bigger corset top? dan you look bloody lovely in your frock - I think I'm just going to look fat.

Wheelybug · 19/11/2008 21:34

Thanks for the sympathies re the chundering but, I know it sounds cheesy, but I remember saying when we were struggling to get pregnant that I would throw up every day of the pregnancy if I had to so I've only got myself to blame ! If I have to throw up to be pregnant I'd rather be throwing up !

(although even dd is getting bored of it - she used to be quite concerned, now when I run off to the loo she just turns to dh and says 'mummy's being sick again' and the other day was standing outside the loo saying 'have you finished yet' pause chunder 'have you finished yet' pause chunder etc. Bless... )

dan39 · 19/11/2008 23:00

Herb BRILLIANT - tho I thought the sanme as Wheely, that you 'can't stay' - I have been out with a friend this evening and was telling her about your scan as I was worrying...?!!
Wheely Sorry about the sickness too - I am doing that burpy sick thing at the mo, keep thinking I am going to chuck up which would be annoying as I haven't yet in the whole pg.

Scotlass the whole POINT, my dear, is that you WILL look fat, but fat and FABULOUS!

SparkyMalarky · 20/11/2008 08:54

No time for a long post but just to say HEEELLLLLOOOO to everyone and herb am thrilled for you

Suffering from horrible cold (DH and DS have it too) and totally snowed under at work - fabulous. Fabulous.

OP posts:
winemakesmummyclever · 20/11/2008 09:45

Wow - a chatty few days!

Pretty much recovered from the exorcist bug - thank god ds didn't get it. Hope that anyone else who is suffering from it get well soon.

On the morning sickness thing, I just kept telling myself "oh well, it means all the hormones are zooming around ok", so it made it more bearable. Didn't go until about 20 weeks - hope it tails off soon for you Wheely.

Just to throw a spanner in the boy/girl debate - I am having another boy. I don't think I can carry girls though I would love one . SIL just had wee girl and am v . Have great relationships with my 3 teenage nieces (all of whom are now taller than shortarse me ), so just spoil them with girly stuff instead.

scotlass - if you can afford it, treat yourself to a new dress. You will be so much more comfortable. I shoe-horned myself into a regular dress for a wedding a while back and spent all day with bits of corset digging in me. There are some pretty things here and they have a sale on .

herby - great news about the scan - you go easy on the DIY now! Though cupboard destruction sounds like great anger management therapy

lacks - hope that the colic begins to ease soon. Content yourself with the fact that you have got a beautiful little boy there, and that it will pass soon enough.

sparky - hope the cold gets better soon. Paracetamol and lots of fluids for you m'dear.

moomin, ladylush and anyone else who has been through a recent scare - hope things have settled down and you are being pampered outrageously by your other halves.

lastbox - we chose not to tell anyone (well, apart from my immediate family & best mate)until well after 12 weeks had passed. As the last mc was around 11-14 weeks (depending on whose dates you believed), I was understandably reluctant to tell anyone at all until it was becoming obvious that there was another lo on the way. It is entirely up to what you feel comfortable with doing. If you do tell people, it may reawaken feelings and issues that you thought you had dealt with, and you need to be sure that there will be someone around who can support and care for you if that happens. On the other hand, you could keep it to yourselves and then you'll have a great xmas secret for your family. Hope you have a great time anyway!

Phew - I really do get keyboard diarrhoea don't I? Anyway, hi to everyone else and have a good day

maz32 · 20/11/2008 12:46
