We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

OMG jj writing for Corrie has been my dream job since like, forever. I also love whatsername - the blond woman who lives with Fiz and is Kirk's new Mrs. She is a great character - a proper Corrie female.

mrsboogie · 14/11/2008 22:41

there's summat not reet about Tina's dad as well, mark my words!

BoffinMum · 14/11/2008 22:58

Fetal Medicine Centre is absolutely great. It's a lovely atmosphere and they are brilliantly thorough. Very cheerful way of getting tests done.

jeanjeannie · 15/11/2008 08:42

mrsB I LOVE Kirk's new woman - Julie. Feels like she's been there forever. And I'm quite taken with the bonkers aunt of Molly. Could tell she was going to stay in the street when her first line in the Rovers was "Don't talk to me about the sad demiss of milk-based puddings" Genius

I agree - I think Tins's Dad is a wrong'un. And I reckon that journalist will unravel the mystery of Tony Gordon....OOOOoooo, he's an evil pantomime character.

Sorry everyone - it's the only soap I watch - and was one of my earliest memories!!!

boffinMum Hello! Are you one of us oldies too?! I went to the FMC and they were very nice indeed. Didn't help that I already knew I had a 1 in 2 odds....but the prof was lovely. All turned out OK in the end. Many girls on this site haven't - or aren't bothering with testing...that's what I love about this thread...we do want we want and no one judges We don't even shout if you OD on CAKE!!

Hello.

Did I win at Bingo?? Did I heck!! I was astounded at how much it cost (£14) for such a short time (less than 2 hours). I wasn't the happiest as I was on pop all night to the amazement of my mates. I drove everyone home at the end, very drunken women singing and talking about things that you would never talk about sober!! The girl whose husband has died seems to be coping ok, her son, who is 9, isn't doing that well tho'. Very sad situation. A Christmas night out was discussed, oh dear, another night on the lime and soda, I need to find out some symptoms that I can fake so I can go down the antibiotics route.

This morning I am feeling very bad, like a hangover but without the benefits of a good night out. I can't sit in a comfy, slouched position as I keep bringing bits back into my mouth (yeurch!), so it's either standing or a dining chair rather than the comfortable couch. Any suggestions ladies? At one point, I asked dh to go and make me something and he said "yes, anything" with such enthusiasm and without finding out what I wanted that I was desperate to thnk of some thing a bit more complicatd than a cup of mint tea

I think we are off to the cinema this afternoon, if Mum wants to come I may take her to see Easy Virtue. As she doesn't like anything with sex, violence, swearing or americans (Yanks!), it might be right up her street. But of course, they don't make films like they used to.

This morning, dh and I were in bed cuddling and listening to dd getting ready for work, ds1 getting ready to go and do his paper round and then meet some mates in town and ds2 was sorting out his stuff to take to his dad's. He commented on how lovely it was that they were all doing their own thing and getting on with it and we were just lying there cuddling. Ha! Just you wait sunshine!! The lying in bed at 8.30 cuddling will not last much longer.

mrsboogie · 15/11/2008 11:33

yes apols ladies for the Corrie chat - but I am addicted to it and have been watching since I were a sprog. I get really irritated when that steaming pile of crap that is Eastenders wins all the awards.

Oh excitement!! got my delivery from Yellow Lolly today - must say they are very good - v fast delivery and when my payment didn't go through on the website they rang me first thing next morning to fix the problem. I got a gorgeous cream long sleeved body/vest with owls on and a lovely blue and green babygrow/suit thing with with turtles on - from ej sikke lej - and a fab hat and mittens from lille barn.

Also in spending money news, we got a Tomy little star baby show thing - its one of those nightlite things that plays a lullaby and ptojects a soothing little light show onto the ceiling. And it actually worked! What it seemed to do was distract Darragh from objecting about being in bed, thus distracted from the business of crying for about ten minutes he fell to sleep. He was lying in his bed smiling rather than demanding to be let up. Result! and only a tenner...

lilibet · 15/11/2008 11:34

mrsB, we had one of those for ds2, he loved it. I used to spoil it a bit by staying to watch his little face light up with amazement.

Johnworf, been meaning to tell you - I was born in Bury!

mrsboogie · 15/11/2008 11:42

oh yukk lilibet sounds very not nice that - sounds like to much acid production in your stomach - is it reflux? would the old Gaviscon miracle worker be of any use? others may be able to suggest

don't mean to be rude but do you have any excess poundage at all lilibet? if so you could pretend to be on a diet - lots of them |most of them it seems to me) forbid drinking so you can claim to be following it for a longer period than you would, for example, be on antibiotiocs. Just a thought. Its what I did. Everyone believed it 'cos I said the same thing every time I was avoiding drinking. I did have the odd glass of wine at home but never out - as the wine glasses are so big.

lilibet · 15/11/2008 11:51

Can I have gaviscon? Good idea if I can.

Oh yes, I have excess poundage, my love of cake and drink doesn't really go with being skinny . That may be worth a try.

mrsboogie · 15/11/2008 12:04

I think you can have it yes - its only an antacid - do check but I'm nearly sure as its one of the few things that are fine to take. I took it for pg heartburn - worked a treat.

Tee2072 · 15/11/2008 12:05

Next time I complain of no symptoms, some one remind how badly my lower back feels after walking around City Centre shopping for 2 hours, k?

OUCH!

lilibet that sounds horrid! I think you can take gaviscon, but check with the chemist, they'll be able to tell you. And I second MrsB's suggestion about telling mates on huge diet. Or be like me, and just tell everyone you are pregnant!

mrsboogie · 15/11/2008 12:14

haha I was forever complaining of having no symptoms tee and saying I don't feel pregnant! Later on when I had SPD, Gestational Diabetes, hearburn, constipation, huuuge feet and ankles I didn't say it so much

johnworf · 15/11/2008 12:17

lilibet I'm not actually from Bury. I'm a Manc through and through but I'm living in Bury now...I'm BL9 area. You probably know it as something else in old money

mrsb ah good choice with ej sikke lej. K has quite a few of their babygro's. Molo is also nice too I've just got back from TK MAXX in Bury where they do rather cheap No Added Sugar and Katvig - which I purchased naturally Got her a few more toys as well.

Was talking to the cashier in TK Maxx and she was telling me she has a 27 year old and a 4 year old and we were comparing notes! Mind you, I don't know her so not like we compared that many notes. But still, was nice whilst it lasted.

I've also invested in a Dr Brown's bottle today. Now, I've been reading up on these for a while but K is very picky about what goes in her mouth. She's always had the Closer to Nature teats but they don't go with Dr Browns. Anyhoo I've bought one Dr Brown's bottle to see if she lets me try her with it. It'll be great if she accepts it and they actually cut her wind down. She's full of it (think it's the Nutriprem 2 formula she's on but the reflux doesn't help either).

Gone off corrie for some odd reason but then again I've not really watched any of the soaps since K was born. No time I think is the reason. If it's on I'll follow it but don't make a note in my diary to turn it on.

Went to bed in a cowish mood last night...very early at 9.30pm. K was doing her usual evening scream the house down so off we both went and had a lie down. Feel much better today for it - must have been knackered.

johnworf · 15/11/2008 12:17

I believe that Gaviscon is safe for preggie ladies

lilibet · 15/11/2008 13:48

Johnworf - I may have been born in Bury but at 6 weeks was adopted by a Wiganer, two in fact so I consider myself a Wiganer too.

johnworf · 15/11/2008 14:29

ahhhhhh fair enough lilibet

Just reading through the featured topic on the front page of mumsnet regarding bronchiolitis......very scary indeed. If anyone didn't know about this terrible illness before, read it. Btw, we're now in peak bronchiolitis season - tails off at the end of February.

K has jabs against it but it doesn't take the risk away completely. It just lessens the effects of it.

I'm definately staying home until March!

gingermumi · 15/11/2008 15:52

Hi can I join you guys? Am 42 have two dds aged 20 and 17 and a ds 10months and have just found out I'm pregnant again.

DS was in hospital for a week recently with bronchiolitis (oxygen, IV antibiotics, nebuliser the lot, not fun!). We were sent home initially but were re-admitted next day and stayed a week, if any little ones do get it, don't get fobbed off by docs saying you'll be ok.

Tee2072 · 15/11/2008 15:59

Hi gingermumi! Yikes about DS being in hospital. Definitely something to look out for.

johnworf · 15/11/2008 18:13

hi and welcome gingermumi. My LO has the jab to protect her against bronchiolitis as she was a premmie however, I remember one of my older children getting it when he was 5 months old and it was awful.

Mine are 22/19/17 years old and the latest addition is 5months actual (2months corrected). Great to have another young/older mum around

gingermumi · 15/11/2008 19:08

hi tee and johnworf.

I asked about jab but was told only for immunocompromised babies (like your lo johnworf). My dd1 was born at 29 weeks so i know what it's like to have a little little one.

So glad I am not the only crazy mummy having babies at 40 plus.

johnworf · 15/11/2008 19:50

gingermumi you're not even the oldest on this thread! By a long shot..........so no, you're not mad (although it really does help )

Yeah, the jabs are given out to only the special ones I know there's only been 12 in the whole of the PCT I'm in (that's 3 hospitals). Think it's really down to cost.

gingermumi · 15/11/2008 20:59

I've been mad for years! So cool to find a thread for older mums, When i looked last year there didn't seem to be one, when i first got pregnant i felt like a bit of a freak but actually as it went along there seemed to be quite a few older mums around.

johnworf · 15/11/2008 21:38

Yep gingermumi I remember feeling a bit of a dinosaur when I first stumbled into Mumsnet. I think that is how this thread was borne.....and we've been going quite a while now - February if I remember rightly.

Think a lot on here are busy with one thing or another at the mo but they do come out to play when the children allow it!

jeanjeannie · 15/11/2008 21:54

Evening all. Been out to DPs sister's 30th party....the girls loved it! Iris found her aunty's bra and took to wearing it to cries of 'boobies'

Gingermuni HELLO, welcome and congrats!! You sound like you'll fit in a treat - grab and chair and have some CAKE!

...*now for the Alcoholic Annonymous style introduction I'm 43 and a later starter to this kiddy malarky. I had DD1 at 41 and 18mnth later had DD2 - who is now 5mths old. And like many of the mums here - I am a craddle snatcher with a DP 7 yrs younger. But that's nothing compared to some of these sirens on here....some of them have men decades younger than themselves !

Judging by your name I'm assuming your ginger..??! Excellent, as am I'm a ginger, as are both DDs - we are the chosen ones

lilibet if that's heartburn - don't suffer in silence - it's horrendous. It was my only big problem with DD2 and Gaviscon made me feel all sick. I got something prescribed called Ranitidine but I understand now that Zantac is the same stuff but available over the counter. I found yoghurt helped.

jw I saw the Broncholitits featured on the homepage - I'll read that.

Anyone see that 16 year old who is going off round the world on his own in a yacht.... That's taking the teenage angst thing, of wanting to be on your own, to whole new heights! Couldn't he just be miserable in his bedroom and pick his spots?!

Fingers crossed for sleep...Verity did sleep for longer last night AND found her thumb...hurrah!
