We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

ermintrude13 · 15/11/2008 22:20

Gosh, there's no let-up on this thread on a weekend, is there?

May I add my welcome to Ginger and confess that I will be 42, if I'm spared, (I have to say that even though I'm not superstitious or religious) when I have dc no 3 in June. But my dh is only 6 months younger so I'm an extremely lightweight cradlesnatcher compared with the pros you'll meet here. By which I mean professionals. Honest.

I did a whole day of public talks and discussions that I'd never have scheduled if I'd known I was pregnant, and was v scared I'd have to rush out whilst projectile vomiting all over the audience, but managed to get through it all, drive an hour back home, kiss dh and dc hello and then rush straight to the bathroom to hurl. It must have been adrenalin that kept me going. Sore tum now but at least I never got time to digest the 2 huge muffins and 1 giant mince pie I scoffed after the sarnies.

Off to bed for Guardian puzzles, the sad, middle-aged reason I love Saturday. Night all.

johnworf · 16/11/2008 08:28

ermintrude you poor thing I'm very impressed you managed to keep it all in until you got home. Wow!

JJ just chuckling at the bra wearing girlies Hope you got a couple of snaps for future embarrassment opportunities!

I remember seeing that 16 year old a couple of years ago when he was looking for funding. I'd say he's the exception and not the rule...most are sat in their bedroom drinking cheap cider and listening to emo music

Seems the Dr Browns bottles have been a success and we've so far avoided the 'throw yourself around in sheer frustration as you're full of wind' episode last night. I'm off to pick up another 8 this lunchtime as I'm constantly washing/sterilising the one I bought to try out. If anyone else has had any dealings with these bottles, please tell me what your thoughts were.

Of to pick up DS#2 from the gym this morning. He's coming for the day and to eat his mums good old sunday roast So glad I'm not yet redundant!

Tee2072 · 16/11/2008 08:32

JW so long as you keep making Sunday roasts, you'll never be redundant!

Good morning all. Had a very nice sleep last night for once! Think it was because I slept in the spare room as OH was running to loo all night due to prep for colonoscopy today. Wonder how to break it to him that I sleep better away from him...

Getting really weird aches and pains. I have arthritis anyway, and I think the various hormones are making it worse. Oh joy!

Hope everyone has a nice day. I will spending the afternoon at the hospital with OH!

johnworf · 16/11/2008 09:29

Tee the hormones during pregnancy relax your ligaments so maybe that's where the aches and pains are coming from? I know I had a really achey back.

Hope all goes well with your OH today. Poor man. The mere thought of it makes me feel a bit icky

Tee2072 · 16/11/2008 09:44

Yeah JW I know that's what it is. But that on top of the arthritis is just no.fun! And if you think the sound of it makes you feel icky, imagine how OH feels, after loo running all night and morning!

Also, need to vent for a moment...

Maybe its just because we are all older, but does it seem to anyone else that some of these MNers are severely lacking in the common sense area?

One has posted that DD throws a fit when mum leaves her to do chores, after spending time with DD, and the mum can't figure out why the DD is throwing a fit every day around the same time? Makes me want to slam my head against a wall, really it does.

jeanjeannie · 16/11/2008 10:24

Morning all. Operation sleep was quite a success [proud emoticon] Got a full 5 hours followed by three.....oh, how I shan't be neaded the botox if I keep this up!!

JW I've heard nothing but fab things about the Dr Browns bottles. Even mates who are Docs use them...so I reckon that's some sort of endorsement!

I think if we start out now we could just about get to yours for Sunday roast

ermintrude I'm stunned by your achievement! Well done you. I could probably hold a public discussiion on poo and CAKE....but very little else

tee you have ALL my sympathy. I contracted a form of arthritis (reactive) after DD1 was born. It came along after a nasty infection and it was hell. I had no idea of pain like that. jw is right - unfortunately preggy hormones can set it off - or relax it. Apparently it can go either way Very much like SPD - which is also evil.

Glad you got sleep - even though your poor DP obviously didn't. And shan't today by the sounds of it

Off to dunk the girls in a bath...play with their toys amongst the bubbles. It's our fave thing to do when the weather is rubbish

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 16/11/2008 11:00

JJ yayayay for sleep!

I will have to look into Dr Browns bottles. OMG SO MANY DECISIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

johnworf · 16/11/2008 12:44

Actually tee Dr Browns are an american invention I believe. Not that I expect you to be acquainted by all things that are invented in your homeland but seriously, look into them. I'm impressed so far

Glad the girls are letting you get some rest JJ. Mebbe Verity was just going through a phase. Mind you, kids always seem to be going through some kind of phase

Am employing DS#2 as a santa's helper this year in the family business. Just about to show him the ropes and get him trained up for the xmas rush. Need to start negotiating wages as he drives a hard bargain.

Oh, and we went to Greggs today where I tried out the famous festive pasty. Was ok I guess but my DS#2 was mmmmmmmmmmm and ahhhhhhhhhing all the way through his. I'll leave to you lot to decide!

jeanjeannie · 16/11/2008 12:49

Hahahah The Greggs Festive pasty - it the new CAKE!!!

Liking your style jw roping in the offspring for the crimble rush. My DP can't wait for the girls to start showing an interest in carpentry tools....

All my lot are asleep....soooo nice. I've had toast and jam in peace and quiet JW how are your DPs migraines? Is he feeling better?

We've just been offered a freebie holiday cottage near a place called Heaton in Lancs....sort of near Morecombe and the lakes. Reckon it's worth going? Anyone know that area? I'm quite up for it - or is it really UGH!....?

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 16/11/2008 13:20

mornin all

must say the Gregg's pasty thing sounds eehhmm a bit minging to be honest .

Just preparing ourselves here for a week of chaos as we have the builders coming first thing tomorrow to knock through our front room into the back living room. Front room is currently used to store bikes, buggy and the large collection of cardboard boxes amassed by DP (as he will never throw away the box of anything he buys in case he needs to sell it later on ebay). Anyhoo all said boxes are currently on their merry way to the tip.

Unfortunately have got the hv coming tomorrow so we will have to entertain her in the bedroom where I will be in exile all day with D on account of the dust. This would be ok except we have randomly piled everything from downstairs into the bedrooms to make space for the demolition work. Not sure what she will make of the state of the place

johnworf · 16/11/2008 15:40

mrsb I really don't envy you. Builders working is enough to test a relationship. When we had our kitchen and bathroom done we were still finding brick dust months later. Thankfully K wasn't even a twinkle in our eyes at that point. Phew.

Am loving the image of your OH and his boxes. Kind of like a modern day Mr Trebuss.

No idea where Heaton is tbh JJ Mind you the Lakes are are way up the M6 from us. Hmmm Morecambe. Great when the rain is sweeping across the prom and gale force winds a blowing. Sorry, that's the only image I have of Morecambe in my head.

Am loving Iris off to work with her daddy. So it'll be chisels, hammers and workmate benches under the tree this year

We watched The Illusionist with Ed Norton last night. Twas very good (the bits I saw when wasn't wandering around with clean nappies and bottles). Anyone seen it? Whaddya think?

mrsboogie · 16/11/2008 16:04

nope, didn't watch that but did watch outnumbered - v funny sitcom just returned for a new series on bbc1 - think it used to be a bbc2 or 3 thing. Its about a typical middle class couple and their three young kids who run rings around them and all the adults who have the misfortune to meet them. The kids are the stars of the show really. Worth catching.

Tee2072 · 16/11/2008 16:15

Hi All

back from hospital. DH is fine, no big deal on the procedure. Diagnosis is IBS, so I told him he'd have to start eating more green veg and salad, he looked horrified!

I'm totally exhausted. Who know sitting in a hospital waiting room could wreck a person? Or maybe its that little person inside of me who's wrecking me?

We both took tomorrow off in case he had a bad time, so looking forward to a day of doing zip zilch nothing!

johnworf · 16/11/2008 17:12

A day of doing nothing. Nope. Can't remember that one! Don't worry Tee, once you have your LO it'll be a dim and distant memory to you too

Glad your OH is ok btw. Have you got him a nice comfy cushion to put under his sore botty?

mrsb I've seen that tv prog advertised. Is it the one out of Punt & Dennis in it? (can't remember which is which). The cute little girl with the tooth missing annoyed me on the trailer so didn't see the rest of it.

Btw The Illusionist is a film we watched on DVD.

It's football all the way at Worf Towers today. Man City are on the box so all eyes are glued to tv (not mine hasten to add). DS#2 is still here so I'm running from kitchen to LO.

On the back of buying the Wimmer-Ferguson toys I've been looking at more of the Manhattan toys. Anyone got these? I'm looking at a few more for K for xmas. Recommendations please ladies!

Tee2072 · 16/11/2008 18:45

See, JW that's why I am doing as many days of nothing as I can!! In another 31ish weeks, its all over!

And his botty isn't sore! I know, I'm surprised also!

And I really enjoyed the Illusionist.

johnworf · 16/11/2008 18:57

Sure will be all over Tee. At least you know what's coming

Doc must have done a good job on your OH. I really would have thought that shoving something up your bum would hurt - I hasten to add I only 'think'...I don't actually know

I love Edward Norton in anything so yeah, The Illusionist was a good film..although I found him in American History X very sinister I always like him and John Cussack - especially in High Fidelity. What a great film.

No idea why I'm rambling about films today. Perhaps because I haven't sat through one for such a long, long, long, long, time.

lilibet · 16/11/2008 19:02

Avery quick post!

Tee - glad he's ok

The Illusionist was wonderful, try The Presige for something similar but different.

And!!

My dd has spilt leg wax all over my hall carpet!!!!

Bum!

jeanjeannie · 16/11/2008 21:00

Evening. Gosh - knackered after rapid trip to Costco in the pouring rain and then Iris has just fallen out of her cot - again. She landed awkwardly and only just gone back...bless. A bed for her as from next week!

Not seen the Illisionist. Think Ed Norton is rather marvellous though - was just about to say he reminds me of John Cussack.

mrsB we watched Outnumbered - thought it was bloomin great. Don't usually like sitcoms - especially DP - but this was so well written - and actually funny

tee pleased it all went well for you DP. Odd it's not sore... He'd not been preparing himself I hope.... Good thinking about taking the Monday off!

JW We've got some Manhatten toys. There's The Whoozit...or 'Mr' Whoozit as he's known here! And the Shooting Star rattle....which doubles up as a nice bath toy. Oh and the photo albumn...which is only just coming into its own as Iris is obsessed with photos.

lilibet leg wax over carpet NO!! Let us know how the hell you got that lot off!

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 16/11/2008 21:47

Good evening all. JJ I can't think what will get wax out of the carpet unless it's something to do with ironing brown paper on top of the wax but that could be some other household tip, or possibly witchcraft. Good luck!

JW I too am fond of E Norton and J Cusack - especially the latter, and one of my favourite films ever is Grosse Pointe Blank - all 80s music and daft plot in which Cusack is a hired assassin. Halfway though I leaned over to my husband and said admiringly 'Ooh, I do like a man who can handle guns'.

Lilibet's recommendation of The Prestige is worth taking - an odd and problematic but sometimes fabulous film.

Tee glad your dh's bum is in good nick.

On which note, goodnight sweet ladies.

johnworf · 17/11/2008 08:18

Will seek out The Prestige from Love Film and reserve my seat for next Saturday

JJ I've seen the Whoozit and like the look of it so may go for it. She'll probably end up playing with the box but hey ho.

I remember the escape from cot routine. My DD#1 used to throw a pillow down first (back in the days that toddlers were allowed them and yes, she was also very resourceful!). First the pillow, then a muffled thud and she was away. We've got a cot bed for K so she won't have too far to fall - hopefully.

No idea ermintrude re the leg wax on the carpet. Ask Aggie comes to mind (if you look on The Times website). Aggie always has a solution. If it was me and because I'm a meithering bugger, I'd email Lakeland and they would definately know and also sell a product to deal with it! (probably).

I'm also pondering how many men you've met who handle guns?. I've met 1. An american online b/f many years ago. Met up with him in DC for a week of.........talking . Didn't work out funnily enough.

ermintrude13 · 17/11/2008 09:45

Morning all.

JW, I've never actually met a man who handles guns and really don't want to - there was just something about the sight of John Cusack loading and firing a scary array of weaponry at great speed and remaining terribly cool that clearly did something for me on a subconscious level. Hmmm. Your US b/f experience doesn't sound like much fun.

Off to Sainsbury's now. Shopping with M/S is no fun at all - I can't bear to think about what to cook so come back with mad things I've stuck in the trolley in the hope I'll feel able to deal with them later, plus lots of bread products. Have put both dc on school dinners every day so that at least they'll have one relatively nutritious and not too weird meal every 24 hours...

jeanjeannie · 17/11/2008 09:47

Men handling guns..? Not attractive - scary I'd say. When i lived in Brixton a neighbour of mine used to clean his gun while sitting in his car, door open, music blaring - even had a conversation with him once while he sat there with it - as though it was all perfectly normal!! Not as fun as jw's American though!

Mr Whoozit - the heart shaped one with the squeaky nose is probably our best-surving toy. Verity can't get enough of gnawing on that snout!

Busy day - off to playgroup and then round to friend's house. Feels odd as in two years we've only had 3 invites and she's round here weekly. Was beginning to think it was cos we woz ruff or something!

OP posts:
johnworf · 17/11/2008 09:53

jj she's a freeloader! Rather have her cake and eat it

Make sure Iris takes a nice big marker pen to draw on her walls.

Yes, I'm feeling particularly evil today (I'm sat here stroking my imaginary white, fluffy cat a la James Bond villain).

Just glanced at I'm a Celeb news/pics from last nights opening episode on DM site. Already scenes of fake boobs and bikinis, back biting etc etc etc. Glad I missed it.

gingermumi · 17/11/2008 10:37

JJ am indeed ginger! and i love cake, thanks for the welcome! DH is also only six months younger ermintrude. Hope all ok, just a quick post as am at work!

johnworf · 17/11/2008 10:41

for anyone interested....La Redoute sale is on. You can find some bargains HERE
