We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

tee I have to say I was eyeing up one of the pictures and it's very good. Looks like a field of poppies. Me thinks it could be worth ebaying !!

jw one reason not to have wallpaper. I can remember as a kid starting to peel some off the landing wall. I can still see my mum and dad looking bemused as I thought I was helping them out as I heard them saying they wanted to redecorate!

Wow lilibet I reckon your mum is having a baptism (no church pun intended!) of fire - first a black person and now you - 40 something, having a baby. Gosh, she'll be absailing and going on a gap year next Ah - it's good for her - keep her young!! Bless. I'm fascinated to know which part of the country you hail from - being so sheltered..???

Think that it's addresses? Stop me if I'm wrong - or a pendant. I think it's apostrophe s after a name or thing ending in S when it belong to someone. I alway wonder with Iris. I add an 's -like so...."It was Iris's ball." However I'm told it is also acceptable to put "It was Iris' ball." But BAH - I'm having none of it!!!

jj I'm from Wigan, we have communities of other races in nearby towns but somehow it has completely passed us by until recently.
We now have friends who have gained asylum here from Iran and there are increasing numbers of darker skins round and about but I am ashamed to say that there is an awful lot of racism, everyone is regarded as a 'paki', to which I usually ask, "do they come from Pakistan? I didn't realise you knew them?"

ermintrude13 · 14/11/2008 14:31

jj if you are a pendant, then i am a necklace!

jeanjeannie · 14/11/2008 14:46

WHAHAHAHAHAH hahahahah ermintrude FAB - can you tell I'm tired??? That's almost as good as the time I wrote a fashion piece for a magazine with the immortal line....."the rich textures enhanced the jacket which subsequently gave the collection a sole" No - I didn't mean a fish...I meant life and spirit. Luckily I had a sub on the phone half hour later howling laughing, so it never appeared in print.... I like to think of you as a lovely, sparkly necklace....maybe from Elizabeth Duke

lilibet here in High Wycombe most people usually have come from Pakistan!!

ermintrude13 · 14/11/2008 14:58

Elizabeth Duke, how dare you! Ratners is more like it.

Re: multicultural places, since I've always lived in big cities full of all different communities it's never been an issue. But my in-laws live in the whitest part of Essex and used to get embarrassingly jumpy about the number of black faces they saw when we lived in North London - lots of 'Goodness, I wonder where he's from?' type comments about our neighbours. It always gave me such joy to tell them 'Birmingham.'

lilibet · 14/11/2008 14:58

So, what is everyone doing this weekend? Tonight I am off to.....................................Bingo!!

Only ever been once before in my life, but one of the girls from the office has recently lost her husband and we are taking her for a night out at bingo ( not my suggestion, I'm just making the numbers up and driving!!)

Other than that dh and I have no real plans, I must go and see my mum, I mustn't drink, have lovely soft cheese, or nice runny eggs, but I can have some Dairy Milk and cake!!

Tomorrow night it's the double delight of X Factor and Strictly - I vowed not to get hooked into either this year and now I'm an addict. And tomorrow I am going to vote on both for the first time.

lilibet · 14/11/2008 15:02

Ermintrude - showing your age there with Ratners!!

I remember the prawn sandwich quip from Gerald. I am very, very old

Tee2072 · 14/11/2008 15:05

Unfortunately, DH is having a colonoscopy done on Sunday so we will be spending this weekend at home, since tomorrow night and Sunday morning he will be spending in the loo as his system cleans out.

I am still shocked they are doing it on a Sunday, but I guess they are trying to meet new NHS targets? Anyway, at least this way I only have to take one day off work (Monday) to make sure he's okay!

ermintrude13 · 14/11/2008 15:07

heh heh. i'm a Tiffany's girl really (not). And yes, I remember Gerald R making a fool of himself.

Are you pregnant ladies scoffing peanut butter? There are no peanut allergies in our family, and if I have any cravings at all it's for the Wholefoods wholenut pb which is so gorgeous it can't possibly be wrong - can it? Not sure what the advice is nowadays, but since I shan't be rubbing it on my nipples - unless our sex life takes a very disturbing turn - I don't think it's harmful.

Sex life....ah yes, I remember that. DH was quite relieved at being granted a bit of a rest after we discovered we'd hit the jackpot, having made such valiant efforts for so long, but he's a bit bored now of me feeling constantly sick - and therefore not at all in the mood. Yet another reason to wish this nauseas away, sharpish!

johnworf · 14/11/2008 15:09

MMMMm Elizabeth Duke. I've an idea for Christmas prezzies now; you can all ask for a 9ct gold rins with spelling out the words 'mum'

Not many black faces round these parts although lots and lots and LOTS of Jewish people. However, go 3 miles down the road and you could be mistaken for thinking you are in fact in Bangalore. But that's Manchester for you. Pockets of different cultures in different area...they kind of take them over as their own.

JJ it is addresses btw. And I so love you as a pendant

johnworf · 14/11/2008 15:11

ermintrude all nuts are off the menu I'm afraid (if you follow their advice). Nut allergies and all.

Not sure I made the link between lack of nipple rubbing and substitute peanut butter

lilibet · 14/11/2008 15:15

oooooh Peanut butter - I love peanut butter. Don't dare buy it as I can eat a full jar in 48 hours. I just have to take a spooonful evertime I go in the kitchen.

Tee, I hope your dh goes on ok.

ermintrude13 · 14/11/2008 15:20

No brie, no raw eggs, no shellfish, no pate, no blue cheese. I'm going to have the odd bit of peanut butter - did so through my other pregs and no problems there. And it's a good way of getting protein. Do I sound like I'm making excuses?

jw the nipple reference was because some nipple creams were made of peanut oil and caused some allergic reactions from babies who subsequently fed from said nipples. I wasn't just being pervy. Honest.

johnworf · 14/11/2008 16:14

Ah I see the connection now. I used Lasinoh nipple cream which I don't think has peanut oil in it but it does contain lanolin.

ermintrude as one for bucking trends myself, go for it girl. Another rebel joins the ranks

Huzzah!

mrsboogie · 14/11/2008 16:20

my goodness you lot ain't half been nattering!

re peanuts/ butter I'm sure the current advice is that its ok so long as there are no allergies in the close family. It was forbidden then they thought it might actually have the wrong effect as babies can get acclimatised via minute amounts in utero rather than have a reaction caused by sudden exposure in childhood. If you wait a while the advice will change to suit you!

Trust K is having another O2 free day jw

ladymac I missed your son on the telly - set it to record when I saw your post but when I went back to look at it I had only caught the closing credits - and could only see vague silhouettes of the contestants in the dark

Have just been to town - yay the cabin fever recedes - avoided the temptations of Greggs but have returned with a nice bottle of Gavi, a Now magazine (I know, I know) and a packet of toffee Viennese biscuits from Marks and Spencer of which I have already eaten four

Must away to do my Tesco online order

jeanjeannie · 14/11/2008 16:29

Nipples, peanut butter...SEX HATE peanut butter - it's up there with Marmite and lard. And as for lanolin - it's the only thing I am allergic too. No nipple relief for me

I think there is much controvesy surrounding the nuts thing in pregnancy. Unless you've a history then I was told it was ok - so I munched away!

Ah - the weekend. Off to SILs b'day bash and Costco on Sunday........living it LARGE! Oh and Operation Sleep...... You'll probably hear the screams down you way! Mind you - it all sounds more fun than tee's DH is going to have Hope it all goes ok - poor thing

Take away tonight - MMmmm chinese...want it NOW

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 14/11/2008 16:52

Thanks everyone. Actually, according to everyone who has had it done, the actual procedure is a piece of cake, its the preparation that totally sucks. Two lots of what is called KleenPrep (isn't that a cute name, NOT!) that does exactly what it says on the tin, totally cleans you out over a 8 - 12 hour period. Poor boy can't eat a thing from after lunch tomorrow until after he comes home Sunday night.

So tonight, by his request, as his last meal (as he keeps saying) we are having a curry. And Sunday he has requested this casserole I make, which is totally not low carb, but I'll have a tiny bit and big ole salad!

mrsboogie · 14/11/2008 16:54

oh my weekend - not so great - having to move half the downstairs to upstairs as we have builders coming monday morning to knock a wall through and skim the kitchen.

but tonight is chinese here too - making a nice spicy pork and aubergine dish with jasmine rice and spring rolls (the latter ready made by Messrs M and S) yum yum.

johnworf · 14/11/2008 17:04

Just getting my coat as I'm off to mrsb's house for my tea

Tee don't envy your DH having a camera shoved up his arse. IMHO backsides are a one way street and anything going against the flow of traffic is not natural. Still, I'm sure he'll have a nice nap while they do it (btw, my father had it done a few weeks ago and they asked if he wanted to 'have a look on the monitor'...bleugh). I can understand why they want it all clean for the camera (I wonder if they ask you to smile for the camera as well?). I mean, I wouldn't want to be wiping poo off my sureshot.

Nice eclectic mix you having going on there mrsb...Now, Gavi and toffees That's what I call a night in.

Yep, she's still off the O2 having developed a nasty habit of playing the game of 'pick me up or I'll cry'

No idea what is on the menu at Worf Towers...I'm thinking possibly curry.

mrsboogie · 14/11/2008 17:49

Oh I know how to show mesel' a good time jw

good news re the o2 - well that's the days sorted - I guess nighttime might be a little bit of a leap of faith for you as you can't be watching over her all the time - will you have to do it in increments?

johnworf · 14/11/2008 18:43

I stick her back on the O2 about 9.30pm. When MW comes next week I think we'll try her for half the night off it. Crap. That means I have to get up in the night again Not sure about waking LO up either as she's sleeping through every night now. I'll see what MW says. I'm inclined to think leave her off the O2 but keep her SATS monitor on all night. That's what I'm doing in the day time. Of course, I can't have her hooked up to a SATS monitor 24/7 so I'll be lead by MW's advice regarding this.

I can't believe we've actually got here! Never thought we would or if we did it'd take freakin ages. When I think back to May what things were like I wasn't even sure she'd make it through the night so, yeah, it's progress Just this heart thing now to negotiate but TBH, once she's off the O2 it's not a biggy. It's the O2 that makes the op hard (if she needs it) as she'd have to go back on a ventilator afterwards. I think once she's off, its an in and out affair.

DH just gone off to fetch our curry. Looks like it's curry for tea then

You know this 'tea' term? When I came back oop norf from darn sarf I was really all mixed up about it. I'd adopted my ex partners terms so DH gets mightily confused with me...ok this is what I mean:

Breakfast is breakfast (same). Lunch is dinner (eek). Supper is tea (double eek) but in the north supper is something you have before bed time. Can you see how confusing this gets with us two???

Gah!

mrsboogie · 14/11/2008 19:14

Oh I hadn't realised that the implications for the heart op were dependent on the O2 situation- that really is good news then - even if she had to have it done. Big Progress!!

ah we have the same thing here re tea and dinner, OH says the same as yours does, whereas me being Irish said something entirely different and then having lived dahn sarf for so long I now say dinner for the evening meal. So he calls it tea and I call it dinner except sometimes I call it tea

Tee2072 · 14/11/2008 19:17

JW image how confusing it is to an American!

When the Dietician was talking to me about what and when I should eat she said "so have 60 carbs for tea and 15 for supper" and I'm all "But I have dinner at 7!" But she meant a snack before bed! I was so confused!

To me its breakfast, lunch, dinner. End!

johnworf · 14/11/2008 20:12

LOL. Confusion reigns

I'm pretty much the same as Tee in what I say these days. I've completely abandoned saying supper as you say, it's too confusing.

jeanjeannie · 14/11/2008 20:44

I'm a breaky, lunch and dinner girl too. I thought supper was something posh people had at around 8pm....with After Eights - afterwards, obviously

jw I'm amazed, Katherine has come on soooo well since May. I'd not thought that the O2 was so crucial to the op situation but yep, looking at it logically I can see that it would be.

Anyone watching Corrie? I'm quite liking the ex jail bloke stopping with the Platts....some great lines. Like a nutty philosopher. I'd love to write Corrie scripts....it'd be my dream job!

Oooo - frozen fruit with cream yum, yum
