We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

Maybe its just me, but BLW just sounds idiotic to me. How does a baby eat a Big Mac anyway?

I think I'll go with the traditional way, when we get that far. Mushed up food.

hedgepig · 12/11/2008 20:06

i just found this article here which provides an explanation. I was wondering if it was to do with weaning later and it does seem to be. I think I will do a bit of a mix of puree and finger food, you have to get some food into them and if the LO faffs with one bit of brocolli all mean that will not keep their weight up will it.

johnworf · 12/11/2008 20:48

Soldiers with thin scrape of marmite. Mine used to love it!

Still in shock over the cake and coke babies. Shit. That is really very bad

hedgepig · 12/11/2008 20:56

just read my crap typing (sorry it was one handed) I meant "one piece of broccoli for all of the meal...."
JJ just looked at some of the weaning threads ekkk

jeanjeannie · 12/11/2008 21:03

That's it hedgepig I think if they just faff with bits of carrot and sticks of sweet potato they're going to get bored and not eat it. I always gave Iris a little bit of something to hold and chew - but not exclusively. MMmmm, and I have my concerns over the woman who advocates it via UNICEF - she's been very quick to bring out that book on BLW

Nothing on telly Should tidy up but can't be bothered...tee hee...I'm such a slob.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 12/11/2008 21:06

Oh yep hedgepig I know - they're all really hardcore. I always get the feeling that there are the 'big, older girls' who are the leaders and the less brave ones who just want to do it because 'the popular girls' do MN does remind me of school sometimes...the dynamic it can create.

jeanjeannie · 12/11/2008 21:10

Ah now there is something on telly. It's Martin Kemp and his son, learning to fly in The Dangerous Adventures for Boys. It's from White Waltham - where DPs step-dad keeps his plane - and lets me have a go!! It's a bit like driving a Fiat 500 with wings that's had the wheel replace with a wobbly stick....

hedgepig · 12/11/2008 21:13

JJ we are stepping over the lego and toy cars here, they will only get dragged out again tomorrow! I must go and get OL his coke and cake for super

hedgepig · 12/11/2008 21:18

sorry .....supper (JW will be telling me off for my bad typing again)
LOL about the big, older girls

jeanjeannie · 12/11/2008 21:22

Yep - I'm looking at a box of Duplo, a playgym, one Bebepod chair, one Mickey Mouse, 3 balloons, one easel, one vibrating chair, a cat on a cushion, toy dumper truck, various books, pens, pencils and a ball.

PAH - tidying up is for whimps

OP posts:
hedgepig · 12/11/2008 21:25

I'm deliberatly keeping it messy to show any visiting HVs that I am coping well and not neglecting the babay by doing too much tidying up!
I am worried Oliver is coming down with a cold, he has been feeding every 2 hrs all day but not taking very much formula and he is only cat napping for 20 mins max and then waking up, it could be a long night

lilibet · 12/11/2008 21:28

Ah - weaning!! I always found that a bit of toast/apple/carrot in the fist while I shovelled in pureed gunk worked very well.

The BLW folk seem quite inflexible - then again that can be said of so many of the young 'uns on mn

Tonight we have been looking at sixth form college with ds1. When we were sat listening to the Principal's chat, they played a video of all the wonderful, smiley, teenagers doing lessons. One bit showed a group of girl's bathing a smiley (real!) baby and I cried. I sat there with tears pouring down my face listening to "what have you done today to make you feel proud" and watching that baby and it was all just too much. I'm a hormonal wuss.

hedgepig · 12/11/2008 21:43

lilibet - hopefully hormonal weeping is a good sign. Is your drs appointment in the morning or the evening, I lost track of if you managed to move it or not.
Gosh 6th form how scary is that. I wonder who lent them the baby for the bath!

lilibet · 12/11/2008 21:55

It's in the eveing but I'm thinking of not going until after I have had the second scan, what do you think?

When I was pregnant with ds2 I went with my friend who was a special needs teacher for th age group 16-18 to her class talk about having a baby. They were lovely and all felt him move and had lots of questions. One of them asked what was the worst bit about having a baby and I jokingly said "the cost", they looked at me in astonishment then on of them said "they charge you???"

hedgepig · 12/11/2008 22:10

Oh bless them!
Is your Drs supposed to be a booking appointment? I'd probably go if that was the case.

mrsboogie · 12/11/2008 22:42

hey - are we not the older bigger girls on MN? the really cool ones who don't follow the rules and don't care what anyone thinks? rather than the dull bossy types who boss the little 'uns around...

sorry - all girl convent education - I have a terrible rebellious streak

Tee2072 · 13/11/2008 06:12

Good morning all.

Man you girls are prolific while I'm sleeping! I may have to give up on sleep to keep up!

The one thing I do find frustrating about MN (as well as other boards I'm on) is how young everyone else is. I'm so glad I found you guys!

I am even having that issue at work, where this one girl I work with, who has 4 children at 33, is being so condescending to me, since its my first. I'm like, I'm pregnant, not stupid. It is so annoying.

Have a lovely day everyone!

jeanjeannie · 13/11/2008 08:50

Morning all. Bad, frayed temper hear. Operation "sleep" may have to start earlier than planned. Actually don't feel safe to drive but have to go out. Verity was in with me most of the night and still it was every 40 - 50 mins waking. Even DP noticed how bad it was. it's just how you parent two children the same yet they react so completely differently

Anyway - onto important stuff DM gossip. That woman Macca (McCartney not Pacca!)is stepping out with is 47....wow - she looks FAB!

Oh gawd, Verity has burst a nappy - it's all up her back. Feel like sobbing WHAH!!!

lilibet · 13/11/2008 09:08

Oh yes, I reckon we are the sixth formers! When I was at school and was in the lower years it was always the 5th form that were horrid to you. The sixth formers who didn't have to wear uniform were so cool, they didn't tell you what to do, just swanned round looking good and obviously knew everything. (and they used to smoke in front of the teachers at break times!!) And when they deigned to speak to you it was like getting a word from God.

When I think now that they were 16 - 18 year old kids I can't beleive the hold they had over me

And the sad thing is that my school did away with the sixth form before I could go - so I never got to be cool.

Tee I think there is a temptation for some mothers to look down on first timers, with a "oh just you wait" sort of attitude. It's not big or clever and it's not something us very cool older ones would do

jj loads of hugs coming your way. I really don't know how you are functioning (and looking so good) on so little sleep. If youare going out - buy cake

Where has scared gone?

mrsboogie · 13/11/2008 11:45

mornin all

STILL full of cold but just been for my six week post natal check up. Apparently it required three doctors and a nurse to stare at me for a bit, ask if I was well (yeah - ish), ask if the baby was ok (yes)tell me I am not diabetic (I know) and give me a lecture about contraception (sigh). I said we wd use condoms as I am too old/fat for the pill then one doc started waffling at me about the Mirena coil. I said condoms will do fine thank you - they have worked for the past 20 yrs for me and then he said well they have worked well for so long they have exhausted their good side and are now due to fail on you!!! I was v tempted to ask what the scientific basis of his assumption was but I didn't have the energy. I am 40 ffs not some dopey 17 year old .

How's Oli hedgepig any sign of the lurgy? D still doesn't seem to have succumbed although he threw up tis morning for the first time ever.

jeanjeannie · 13/11/2008 12:18

Afternoon. Just had one of those "wish I'd not ventured outside the house" mornings...

mrsboogie Wow - that's a heavy going check. My doctor took one look at me and Verity and basically said...bye! The coil always looks soooo evil to me. I bet a bloke wouldn't have a bit of wire shoved in his nuts

Where's JW today???? Is it the busy time of year...or are you having a nap for me?!

lilibet cheers for the hugs. Haven't got the strength to buy cake - I'm on a tea and toast binge

Afternoon sixth-formers. Ventured into town and only got one thing before I came over all dizzy in Boots and had to come home. Must have been calculating all those threefers I was trying to buy. But on the plus side, I gave in to a sudden urge for a Gregg's sausage roll so queued up amongst the girls with their buggies buying breakfast for their babies. I know it's pig lip and arse baked in grease, but it was dee-licious and I don't regret it so there.

mrsb, your doc deserves a slap for his unscientific comments about condoms. jj, am still laughing at the 'wire shoved in his nuts' comment! And I may join you in tea and toast because that sausage roll was ages ago...

mrsboogie · 13/11/2008 12:42

I have had half a large galaxy bar with a cappuchino for breakfast - even worse than a pig's arse sausage roll but equally yummy.

yep - no way am I having what looks like a fishhook inserted up my nethers - I have had enough things inserted up yonder that didn't out to be there in recent times thank you very much

mrsboogie · 13/11/2008 13:19

I meant ought not out

jeanjeannie · 13/11/2008 16:23

ermintrude I'm stil LOL@ your description of a Greggs' sausgage roll....priceless That vision will pop into my head next time I'm passing Wycombe's most pikey Greggs outlet!

Been a poo'tastic' kinda afternoon. Shame Iris is showing no signs of potty training There are people round here with LOs of 18 mths and they're all clean and in pants...! Oh well, if it's heriditary then I'm buggered. My mum tells me I was reading and writing before I got the hang of it - made it to school out of nappies by the skin of teeth

Suppose I should make dinner....mince, with veg and spud - in a pie. I think it's got a name can't remember what....cottage perhaps?
