We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

yummm Greggs sausage roll how yummy. I do have a problem with healthy eating at times well all of the time really hence the size of my hips!

ladymac · 13/11/2008 17:32

Good job I don't work full time, I'd never get on here. Just finished catching up on 2 days of posts and other than the brilliant news about Katherine going O2 less it's ermintrude's sugar puff wee-wee that's sticking in my mind! Can't believe none of the rest of you have ever experienced this phenomenom. The really weird thing is that sometimes my wee smells of sugar puffs when I haven't even eaten them!

Tee2072 · 13/11/2008 17:56

I must confess, this American has never had a Gregg's sausage roll or sugar puffs. Am I deprived?

ermintrude13 · 13/11/2008 17:59

ladymac, glad somebody understands my strange sugar puff reaction. i shall take it that one step further and begin sniffing to see if my wee actually smells of sp or any other breakfast cereal. will report back forthwith.

jj i don't know any 18-month olds who are reliably dry; their parents must be slipping discreet tena-lady pads in those big boy/girl pants to fool you!

i was going to make cottage pie this evening but the dentist ran late and dd has a piano lesson so ran out of time - instead we bought fish and chips on the way home. at least i have a good reason to feel sick now.

johnworf · 13/11/2008 18:21

It is I, Leclere.

Been very busy all day with one thing or another.

Ok story of the oxygen so far.........

MW came y'day and told me to start her on 1 hour off the O2 each day until Saturday and if her SATS were good, then increase to 2 hours and she'd review at next Weds visit...so...took her off this morning at 9.30am and an hour later she was at 98% on her oxygen monitor so I left her off....and she's still off at the mo! So, to cover myself, rang SCBU and told them what I'd done and they said it was fine but not to leave her off overnight (I wasn't planning on doing this anyway). So now we're doing 12 on, 12 off (I think). Girl has done good! She's going to be off this all together soon, hopefully

All my evening meal came from the freezer and emptied out of either a packet or a box. Fractured sit down with the others as K decided she wanted her food as well.

New nappy bucket arrived today. Woot! Very organised now...one for liners/fleece/wraps and one for nappies. Means I don't have to stick my hand in the pooey wee wee nappies.

I'm supposed to be meeting one of the MW's from SCBU tomorrow for lunch but not had it confirmed yet. Am desperate to get out and have some adult conversation as DH has been laid up again today. This migraine is really lingering as we're on day 3 today

Anyhoo.....Tee you're missing nothing re Sugar Puffs apart from a huge sugar spike..don't do it! And you've never been to chavvie Greggs the bakers? Wow. My DS#2 told me last week that they've started selling a new festive pastie: turkey, cranberry, stuffing and white sauce all served in puff pastry. If they did one with roast beef and yorkshires inside my DH would die a happy man

johnworf · 13/11/2008 18:23

Oh meant to add, looking forward to celebrity come dine with me later this evening. I'm still wondering though what is the real definition of 'celebrity'. I'm thinking it's someone you've forgotten existed who is trying desperately to revive their career ?

Tee2072 · 13/11/2008 18:27

JW I don't think Greggs the bakers exists here in NI. I've never heard of it!

hedgepig · 13/11/2008 19:06

Tee - do not worry about missing out on sugar puffs they are very bizzare things IMO Greggs sausage rolls on the other hand are a lovely indulgence although not at all healthy.
JJ if it makes you feel any better Ben was not anywhere near dry until he started school at 4, he just didn't get it at all. we were very close to not starting him at school cos he was still wetting 2-3 times a day even in the weeks before.
Oliver is defanately off colour today, feeding frequently but not very much and only sleeping if held, he seems very acidy as well

hedgepig · 13/11/2008 19:10

fantastic news about the O2 JW and you managed to cook tea too what a super mum you are. Just for my interest how do you measure her SATS ? do you have to take blood?

jeanjeannie · 13/11/2008 20:11

Evening all. jw Brill news re O2 AND a new nappy bucket....go girl

OMG - Celebrity Come Dine with Me....Loving it already!! Don't the Osmonds have a tendancy to run to fat....not-so-little Jimmy Osmond. Caprice has a face that only a goldfish could love and Vic Reeves' wife looks like a 1970s Austrian porn star. Her prawn cocktail looked minging...like the katona had made it from an Iceland prawn ring. Talking of which, an Iceland advert has just come on.

hedgepig hope Oliver staves off the cold

ermintrude and ladymac I've had that with wee before....really strong, sugary smell....MMMmm...wonder what that is??!

OP posts:
johnworf · 13/11/2008 20:49

the wee smell is probably glucose (or mebbe ketones).

I measure K's oxygen levels with a pulse oximeter...I put little sensors on her feet or wrist and it takes it from there. I have 2 in the house at the mo ( a hand held new fangled one and a plug in one that they use on children's wards) as the MW is letting me trial a new one she's just got. In fact she's getting another off the rep next week and wants me to trial that one as well I'm obviously good guinea pig material.

hedgepig don't be too impressed by my culinary skills tonight. Fish fingers and microwave chips aren't that hard

Hoping little Oliver is feeling better very soon. It's awful when they're tiny and poorly. They can't even tell you where it hurts

News of full of the 2 LO's that were stabbed in M.cr last night. The area they're from is where I used to work; shitholeville. God, more social service blunders. I feel a witch hunt coming on.........must check the DM website. I'm sure they'll be recruiting about now...........

hedgepig · 13/11/2008 21:03

I'm wondering if there are more of these cases of Lo being killed or if I just didn't notice them as much before I had children
Thanks for the explanation of the monitoring, I was just curious how you could do it at home.
OL is asleep on daddies lap he seems fine as long as he is cuddled.
Ladymac I just watched university challenge, your boy is lovely you must be so proud

ermintrude13 · 13/11/2008 21:23

jw, i'm feeling sorry for your poor dh and his 3-DAY MIGRAINE. that's horrible, hope it lifts soon. i've only had a migraine once in my entire life - vision went all fuzzy, thought i had a brain tumour, felt like i'd been kicked in the head for 3 days afterwards. having had that tiny introduction to it, i've always been mad at people in offices who bang on about their 'migraines' when actually they have a headache. and people who say they have flu when they mean a bad cold. must be coming from a medical family; illness was a sign of weakness and simply Not Allowed in our house.

nor were gregg's sausage rolls. heh heh. they can't stop me now. (tee, i can't believe they don't exist all over britain and ireland. you should see if they'll give you the franchise; you'd make a fortune if you find the right scuzzy town centre location. tomorrow's mission: to find one of those festive pasties. if it all comes up later anyway it can't do me any harm, can it?

jeanjeannie · 13/11/2008 21:29

Just popped by before night nights. Ah hedgepig I love seeing LOs asleep in Dad's arms! Sounds like Oliver wants lots of comfort for his snuffles

All these social services 'blunders' makes you wonder why no one will take the rap for it. Ross and Brand make a ridiculous, ill-thought out phone call and top bods at the BBC go tumbling. Yet, young, innocent lives are lost and those in charge carry on. It all seems so out of proportion

I hadn't realised that the mum of baby P had another baby while in prison Luckily it was taken into care - what a happy escape for the little one. These people must be seriously metally ill and devoid of any normal human emotions. They walk amongst us. It's so awful.

JW Hope your DH is getting over his migraines. Hideous things.

I may pop into Greggs tomorrow to see if the festive pasty has made its way to High Wycombe! Oh and the Gingerbread Latte should be in Starbucks....horrah! I'm feeling a treat coming on

rosebury · 13/11/2008 21:52

Evening ladies gosh you have all been very chatty, I have only skimmed the posts but what on earth is going on when you are talking about sugar puff smelly wee whatever next.

I am writing this quickly as ds will wake up any moment he has been asleep since six four bloody hours why can he not do that at night i am sure that he has a sensor which detects when I am asleep.

We had our six wk check up today and i also came home astounnded at the lecture from my gp on being careful I am nearly 47yrs old for f=ck sake i think that I know how babies are made by now. Anyway other than that all is well and ds is now 12lbs 3oz these frequent night feeds are obviously doing the trick.

Oh yes and tried one of those coils a couple of years ago I bled for nine weeks it was dreaddful in the end i pulled it out shock horror got to go baby now waking for feed.

mrsboogie · 13/11/2008 23:13

yet again I have missed the evening chats yet all is not lost as I have spent it buying yummy baby clothes from Yellow Lolly and I found a 10% discount code by googling hurrah!

Rosebury I had exactly the same chat from several docs who were years younger than me today. Spoke to me like I was a 17 yr old single mum - if I didn't have a cold I would have given them what for but I hadn't the lung power for it.

Tee2072 · 14/11/2008 06:09

Good Morning all!

ermintrude when I asked my husband about Greggs he said they only exist in NW England, so I guess I'm out of luck!

Had a bit of a hypo last night (low blood sugar) which has me worried because I was within the range the docs want me to be. Definitely calling the diabetes clinic today.

Still feeling a bit woozy, so may call off work. I'll feel a bit guilty if I do, but not guilty enough to endanger myself or the blob inside of me!

johnworf · 14/11/2008 07:45

Tee mebbe your insulin dose is too high? Never had that problem myself as I was always hyper.

K's done marvellously off her oxygen. I put the nasal canulae back on before bed at around 9.30pm and she was happy as a sandboy. I've taken it back off her this morning for the day and she's hooked up to the SATS monitor so we'll see how she goes on.

See that there's a big hoo hah on the news about more social worker failings. Is it the cynic in me or do they whip up these witch hunts (think brand/ross, social workers etc) as a temporary diversion from failing economics? It's probably just me.

DSS off to his mothers again this weekend. I've already upset him by telling him a few home truths - which didn't go down very well. Apparently everything she says to him is true (?), she's a model mother (??) and can do no wrong - oh, and her house (council) is far better than ours. I shouldn't lose it I guess but all the work and effort you put in then some benefits arse who doesn't work and frankly, makes Karen Matthews look like Joan Bakewell comes along and she's God (apparently). (calm blue ocean....calm blue ocean). Now I remember why I didn't want to get involved with a man with kids and all his baggage but I think it's a bit late to go back

Anyway, it's Friday. Woot! Same as any other day for me. Supposed to be out for lunch today but she's not rung to confirm and tbh, I can't be arsed. My hair is greasy and that will warrant a shower before going out....now if I could cancel, then I can put off shower until tonight. Yes, I am waynetta slob

jeanjeannie · 14/11/2008 08:14

Morning all. Rosebury I've gone all weak at the thought of pulling out your own coil...UGH These babies definately detect when you're asleep!

JW sounds to me like you're do a stirling job - I would really struggle to keep my temper. You could get a pic of Karen Matthews and a pic of DSSs mum and ask him to see if he can spot many differences!! Just a thought but maybe he actually really knows what she's like - but it's better to pretend that it's you who is the witch. Kids are like that; admitting a difficult truth is quite hard for them and sad. None of us would probably like her as our mum

Great news on Katherine's oxygen I checked out some pics of her on facebook - she's looking gorgeous...and superb outfits - natch! Plenty of hair too - Verity is virtually bald!

Tee sadly we have Greggs here and this is the Home Counties - very South! Mind you our town is very pikey despite being in posh surrounds - so that's probably why. Still tempted by the festive pasty mind you

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 14/11/2008 08:19

JJ you mean my OH is wrong?!?! gasp

JW I am thinking the same thing about my insulin. We are still adjusting the levels, so I speak to the Diabetic Clinic on a daily basis, will ring in a bit (or maybe go lie down and then ring, feel really gluuregh right now) and talk to them about it.

johnworf · 14/11/2008 09:02

Tee if you're hypo a jelly baby or anything high in sugar (sugar puffs praps?) does the trick. Sorry you hear you're feeling yucky. Not nice feeling wobbly

JJ I was told by DSS's headmistress that in her experience, children will suffer tremendous suffering/heartache etc at the hands of a parent and the child will still go back for more and continue loving that parent. It beggars belief really.

I spoke to SiL last night telling her about diagnosis is official for his Aspergers and she said to me 'don't tell his mother or she'll be fighting for custody so she can claim Disability allowance and all manner of things for him'. I've already told DH not to tell the mother for those reasons. That is the sort of person she is

Anyway, on a more lighter note I have a few pics of K to put up without her pipes and tubes combo on her face. Just her cute little nose!

JJ poor K is bound to have mad hair. I'm naturally curly and DH's nickname is Grizz (after Grizzly Admams). Go figure!

Still laughing here that you want to try out this new Gregg's pastie! I must tell DS#2 that I've sold it to you. Shame you didn't hear him eulogising about it. lol. Oh, and news from him (apart from pasties) is that his driving test is 11th December!! Double Woot!

Tee2072 · 14/11/2008 09:11

JW just looked at your pics of K, what a beautiful little girl! Can't wait to see the ones without the pipes and tubes!

lilibet · 14/11/2008 09:47

Wow, what a lot of posts to read! Good job it's Friday - on Thursdays and Fridays my desk isn't overlooked

I don't think I have ever had sugar puffs either and the delights of Greggs tend to pass me by as I'm a non meat eater. I do know that asparagus also makes your wee smell funny

Ladymac we saw your boy last night, you must be so proud of him, he looks lovely. And if Jeremy happened to mention to him that he has a penchant for middle aged, over weight, northern, pregnant woman, tell your son that he can pass on my details [lecherous emoticon]

I went to the drs last night and she was really lovely. She's new and I hadn't met her before, then again my family aren't frequent visitors. My first appointment with the midwife is on the 9th Dec, which seems ages off but I do have the make or break scan next Friday. I asked about prenatal tests and anything that we want before 16 weeks we will have to have done privately. She told me to contact Fairfield directly and arrange it myself which seems a bit strange?

JohnWorf, she is so lovely. I love the curl on her forehead, you must be really pleased about the oxygen. Go K!!

Tee are you having any additional tests?

hedgepig · 14/11/2008 09:56

just checked Greggs web sit for location information (how sad is that) did you know they have recently opened 4 branches in Belgium!! however none in NI the nearest they have to you is Scotland tee
wat to go Katherine she is looking very bonny JW

johnworf · 14/11/2008 10:00

lilibet my hospital was also Fairfield. Must be a popular name for hospitals unless it's the same one

I shall pass on lovely remarks to my DD especially re her curl. I used to have one right in the middle of my forehead when I was a baby too (there was a little girl, who had a little curl.......was written for me )
