We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

lilibet HCG is the hormone that's measured by a home pregnancy test (and other pregnancy tests come to think of it). It's nicknamed 'the pregnancy hormone'. It should start doubling every 24 hours I think..very early in pregnancy. It's usually a good indicator that all is going well. BG - I'm assuming Tee means blood glucose levels? She's diabetic so these are important when you're pregnant and have to be monitored closely (I know this as I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy).

Our xmas lunch will be a very sedate affair. Just the 4 of us and the dog. I doubt K will eat much; just a turkey leg and a bowl of sprouts

He's working at the Schuh in M/cr city centre on Market Street. He's starting tomorrow so me and DD#1 will be scurrying down there next weekend!

I have niece's b'day on 17th Dec and DH's on 28th Dec. Must watch the latter as that's when I got pregnant last year Will not be happening this year for sure!

We've been to the Chill Factor and it's a lovely day out. DSS went on the bottom play area (for young uns) and he's also been to a party where they slide down the small slopes in a tyre (and get back up on a mini ski lift). He's loved it! There's some nice coffee shops/cafes dotted around the complex too. I know my MW has booked a whole day's skiing tuition there as well. It's a great day/afternoon/whatever out (but it is chilly so dress up. btw think you can hire boots etc there). Oh, and it's not cheap. Check out their website.

Ah yes, JK Rowling NOT Ken Dodd got the badge. It's so easy to confuse the two of them! (alzheimers creeping in).

Great that you've navigated around the problem of the docs/work colleagues! Good luck xxx

I see Sophie Ellis Bextor is up the duff again. Oh and what was the Katona person thinking in that get up???? The travesty that is her life goes on........and on.....

JJ have you managed to close your eyes at all durinig the night????

lilibet · 07/11/2008 09:48

I've had my quick DM fix and once again - what is with the shoes????

Is it me, am I the only one who doesn't like these shoes with dresses? Kerry Katona, Alex Curran, and earlier in the week Gwyneth Paltrow, are all wearing them and I think they look dreadful.

jeanjeannie · 07/11/2008 10:28

Morning all. Got some sleep - from 3.30am till 7am Tres pleasing.

tee well, that's going up - so that's got to be good. Will keep on willing it to do so
even further

JW JK Rowling and Ken Dodd....separated at birth, I've often thought how similar they look and how alike their comic styles are

Xmas lunch - can't believe it's that time again. What to do with the bonkers Serbian FIL - that's the question? We're at MILs for Polish knees up (still haven't coached Iris into appreciating beetroot) and then driving to Nottingham to see my folks for Xmas day. I'm tempted to see if Verity will wraps her gums around a turkey leg - be worth it for the photo opportunity if nothing else!

lilibet I can't bear big shoes like that with a dress....awful. It's not even OTT like UGG boots - just dumpy and gives you pregnancy ankles....and who'd want those eh!?!

Baking a choccy cake today for Iris's B'day. Be lucky if it lasts that long May go to ASDA for el cheapo balloons. Are any of you ladies and LOs coming over tomorrow afternoon? Be lovely to see you all....and Bucks isn't far.....!

Wow jj, 3.5 hours sleep all in one go. Way to go! Fills me with dread - one thing about a big age gap btwn dc is the sleep issue. My dc sleep soundly til at least 6.30, having gone to bed around 7.30-8, so am very used to getting my sleep. And at my age, my eyebags puff up if I get less than 7 hours. Gulp.

Do you have to feed Serbian FIL? My dh was doing some research about Serbian communities in the UK and got friendly with a few people who invited him to a bbq. It was round the back of an industrial estate somewhere near Bedford I think, it was a men only event and they just had meat. Huge amounts of meat followed by meat followed by meat. Plus an evil home-brewed vodka, cheap lager and a few spliffs to finish off. He came home off his head and about 3 stone heavier and his bowels suffered for a week.

Maybe not v practical for Christmas Day?

jeanjeannie · 07/11/2008 10:41

DM news: I see Phil (location) Spencer...(once heard saying on TV down the phone to generously calfed Kirsty..." got the house at a snip - just £350,00 and they're cock-a-hoop!")has had to close one of his businesses due to the property crisis and further scaling down is likely....................[weeping emoticon]

Hah - in this house it's Lactation, lactation, Lactation and there appears to be no scaling down in sight

*hides in corner after dreadful pun...

Did you say chocolate cake jeanjeannie? What's your address?

mrsboogie · 07/11/2008 10:53

mornin all

Still waiting to see if the LO catches OH's cold - there have been lots of sneezings this morning - more than usual at least he is old enough (8 weeks) to be drugged up to the eyeballs now if he does get it. He's still very smiley though so hopefully he is ok.

Oh the poor old Katone - at least she has made an effort - looks better than she usually does I think - not so hot on the shoes though.

mrsboogie · 07/11/2008 10:57

Oh and in my sleep news - D fed at 1am and again refused to go to sleep until he was put back in his rocker downstairs at 3am but then he slept until 7.30 am !! hurrah. There was no middle of the night waking for me (although it was a very short, very late night) Four and a half hours - count 'em ladies

So, sufficiently rested, I will be fit for the party jj get the gin in old girl!

lilibet · 07/11/2008 11:17

My Christmas plans may be changing as we speak! When I was with my ex, my inlaws would never come to ours, always to his sister's and I used to dream of a proper family Christmas.

I'm an only child of only children so relations are pretty thin on the ground. My dad died 8 years ago and mum is nearly 82, but incredibly independant. I do nothing for her, I'm a pretty crap daughter really . I hope my children do more for me when I'm that age!!

Now I have in laws coming and maybe Bil and maybe his new gf and maybe Bil's children, but they will already have eaten so jsut run riot round the rest of the house while we eat, I want a quiet Christmas again - never satisfied!!

A party - . You can keep the gin at the moment JJ, but I'll come a long way for some nice cake.

and both of you got over 3 hours sleep - well done to Darragh and Verity!!

JJ - I've jsut seen Bob, absolutley gorgeous. I have two cats, Jemima and Harriet. And therefore I have ruled out two very nice girl's names.

This year will be my 46th Christmas and I have NEVER had an invite to anywhere for my Christmas dinner

mrsboogie · 07/11/2008 11:31

I love not receiving invites for Christmas dinner! means no traveling at Christmas, I can stay in my jammies all day, cook what I want when I want, watch what I want on the telly, and never have to put up with annoying people.

lilibet · 07/11/2008 11:44

Ah but Mrs B - then the annoying pople come to you!!

And it's the cost - my dd nearly dropped this year when she found out how much turkeys were!

mrsboogie · 07/11/2008 11:51

Oh God - I never invite anyone either no way - unless people invite themselves and even then its only ever if one of our single siblings find themselves at a loose end at Christmas - which is fine.

hmm yeah Turkey - don't even tell me how much they cost! I always want to do goose or something a bit different but OH won't have it. I bet everything will be very very expensive this year so I might just do an easy turkey roulade as seen in the Sainsbury's food magazine this month.

hedgepig · 07/11/2008 11:52

morning all.
even fashion unconscious me can see that the shoes are not good in the Kerry K get up. I am getting a bit worried about myself I have a desire to wear skirts ekkkkkk and I never wear skirts. Do you think it is a post-pregnancy hormone problem
well done JJ and Mrs B on on reasonable nights. It was OK here I lay in bed longer than DH so he did the 3am feed RESULT!!!
Christmas I haven't done anything and we are going to my parents, I didn't have the heart to say we were staying here. Also Ben said we had to go because Santa only knew to go to Grandmas ahhhh how cute.

johnworf · 07/11/2008 11:54

NO one is coming to me on Xmas day apart from my children....I've already pre-warned everyone Although BiL and SiL are just about to pitch up today....I've asked if either have a cold and it turns out he does...so he's made to sit in the car outside. Seriously. No messing here.

Hope Darragh hasn't caught daddies nasty germs and he'll be ok

JJ I'll come down for the cake but I fear it'll all be gone by the time I get there

lilibet if I can do the sleepless nights after 17 years, I'm sure you'll get back into the swing of it!

Oh, and K went from 10.30pm - 6.15am last night so I think she needs to share whatever it is that making her kip with your LO's

Tee2072 · 07/11/2008 12:32

We will be spending Christmas with my in-laws, as we always do!

I hoping to go to the states next year for baby's first Christmas, but who knows if we will!

ermintrude13 · 07/11/2008 12:48

I've got my parents for the day, in-laws arriving Christmas day and leaving on 27th, and one sis and her 16yr old son plus her bf who has extremely weird eating habits (only meat and chips or roast potatoes, no veg, no bread, and NO COLD FOOD!).

Only 11 including us - seems quite small since the whole family went to a hotel restaurant last year and there were 20 of us. Glad I don't have to cater for that many though!

mrsboogie · 07/11/2008 12:53

Which part of the states do you hail from tee?

dead right jw I'm sure everyone will understnad anyway - tough if they don't!!

Tee2072 · 07/11/2008 12:59

I grew up in Connecticut, MrsB, but moved around the country several times. I lived in California before I moved to Belfast and that's where I would go for Christmas, because that's where my brother and his family live.

johnworf · 07/11/2008 13:05

ermintrude the thought of cooking for 'only' 11 makes me break out into a cold sweat. I'm with mrsb on this one. We've both joined the Bah Humbug Society (or BHS for short) and we like nothing more than holeing up for the festive period in jim jams, stuffing Terry's chocolate orange's into our mouths, and watching re-runs of Only Fools and Horses. Sweet sherry optional

So that's why people get stressed out over Christmas?....they're all pulling their hair out in the kitchen wondering what to cook for picky rellies!!!!

johnworf · 07/11/2008 13:05

Tee I know if I had a choice of the British weather and Christmas in California I wouldn't be taking too long booking my ticket.........

ermintrude13 · 07/11/2008 13:14

I'd be off to California in a shot if I had an excuse! Wish my family would travel a bit farther afield - my ma used to dream of each of her 6 kids* settling around the world so that she and dad could sell up and go globetrotting, staying 2 months in the Everglades, 2 months in NYC, 2 months in Singapore, 2 months in the Fjords etc etc. Sheffield, Nottingham, London is what she actually got.

PJS and choc orange option also v seductive, jw! And I shan't be catering especially for sis's fussy bf; I don't mind cooking for veggies/vegans but 40 yr old men who've developed silly eating habits because they still live with their mothers who have spoiled them are NOT to be pandered to in my book. I expect he'll manage with turkey, chipolata, bacon rolls and roast pots - provided I serve them piping hot. ooh, I could do with a hostess trolley, my mum used to have one of those!

*hence my being relaxed about cooking for crowds!

Tee2072 · 07/11/2008 13:19

OMG how unfair is it that Terry's Chocolate Orange now comes with hazelnuts and I can't have any!?!?!

Just found out I am going on insulin on Monday, so maybe I can eat chocolate then?

hedgepig · 07/11/2008 13:24

poor Tee, I'm not an expert but I suspect chocolate is still banned even with insulin petal . I really don't like nuts and chocolate together, separately fine.
are we going to have a snowy Christmas do you think?
well done K on the big sleep, you must feel like a new woman JW

Tee2072 · 07/11/2008 13:29

Actually, hedgepig, nothing is banned from a diabetic, its just how much you eat! It might actually be less banned with insulin! Because you can counter it!

jeanjeannie · 07/11/2008 13:29

Like lilibet I'm an only child so folks are thin on the ground! Mum is 79 & Dad almost 84 but still going strong - they go shopping for 'the old people' on a Friday to help them all out...most of whom are younger than them!!!

ermintrude I dread to think what your DH uncovered about the Serbian community....that they're tribal, bonkers and have very long memories for a good old fued..?

Actually FIL is from a Very grand, old Belgrade family and he hates with a passion anyone else from the Balkans - including his mother who was Croatian! Apparently the Bosnians 'sold their soul to the devil'.. Oh, he's soooo much fun. And even when Tito took away ALL their wealth and riches....they all made friends with Tito and DPs grandfather became the highest ranking general in Yugoslavia despite refusing to become a member of the communist party!

FIL won a scholarship to Imperial College in '68 and is a top bod in industry - oh the arrogance is scary - as is his moustache

tee Conneticut AND California - how Fab DP was married to a Bostonian for 10 yrs....no such luck for a nice get-a-way Xmas with me!!!

OK ladies - the bar is fully stocked & cake is ready - see you here about 2 onwards tomorrow!
