Odds are great at 33 weeks. And every baby I know born with IUGR has flourished.

What do you still need to sort? Is it stuff MN can help with?

BellaBear · 26/08/2008 16:32

Good luck
xx

sallyforth · 26/08/2008 16:32

(am not a regular as such really so you might not know me but am earnest student of your blw blog and forum!!)

Forgot to add - another friend had a baby at twenty six (?) weeks and was able to breastfeed. She had to express at first for the feeding tube, then syringe, but did really well (even though it was exhausting). Her DD is now healthy and no long-term effects at all (although very scary at the time as she was so very little).

Oh Aitch, you poor love.
My ex boss's daughter was rushed into hospital at 7mos, with pre-eclampsia, sky high blood pressure, they kept her in for a week giving her steroid injections to strengthen the baby's lungs. He was delivered by c-section as was just over 2lbs.
He is now a boisterous 2 year old, who gives his big brother a run for his money!
Sending you and your lo lots of positive vibes!

JulesJules · 26/08/2008 16:46

Just want to say Good Luck to you and the little Aitchette

(I was born 7 weeks early, about 100 years ago, pre-Scbu, weighed 4.5lb,and I'm fine!)

EachPeachPearMum · 26/08/2008 16:50

Sorry to hear this Aitch.
TinkerBellesMum has had 2 very early dds, though not due to p-e if I recall- hopefully she'll be around later with some positive advice.

PortBlacksandResident · 26/08/2008 16:53

Upwind · 26/08/2008 16:55

Just to back Jules up - I have suddenly remembered that I too was born at 33 weeks gestation due to placental abruption and very tiny even at that (can't remember the exact weight though).

Aside from being born with an inguinal hernia that required surgery(about a third of preemies have them) I've not suffered from any noticable ill effects and technology has no doubt improved since!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 26/08/2008 16:57

Oh Aitch I am shocked to hear this.

Crossing fingers for you.

Aitch · 26/08/2008 17:03

(and looking up hitmen who specialize in builders)

Keep us posted!

DontNeedAnything · 26/08/2008 17:09

Blimy - I didn't even know you were pg!!!

I delivered at 27wks with a pair of 2lb babies. They were home from hospital at just over 4lb so hopefully that makes 3lb sound a little bit less tiny.

32wks is the key date peads refer to for lung maturity, so you are past that - which is great.

IIRC Callum (SKG's DS2) was a 32-34wker and he was home within a couple of weeks...so she needn't have a long stay in SCBU.

Express as soon as you can and as often as you can. Literally every 2 hrs....even if you get what appears to be nothing. It can be hard to get a supply going in the early days. Double pumping is better and stimulates more than single pumping too if you can convince them to let you have 2 pumping kits.

In hte NNU DTDs were in the only parents that went home bf were those who had older siblings that had been bf - so they knew what they were doing IYSIM. There was very little support for bf. I would recommend getting in touch with a bfc NOW that will come in and physcially be with you to support bf when the time comes to increase your chance of success.

Good Luck.

Buda · 26/08/2008 17:11

Oh love. How scary. Hope it all turns out to be not nearly as bad as you fear. (I didn't know you were PG either - congratulations!).

Will be thinking of you.

SorenLorensen · 26/08/2008 17:13

Oh Aitch, you poor thing - try not to panic (too much...that's a daft thing to say, isn't it?) and I hope they can keep her in there as long as possible (do you know for sure she's a she ?) Will be thinking of you - keep us posted as much as you can.
