Aitch you poor sod! I haven't read the whole thread, but just wanted to say that 3lbs is not that bad, especially as it's all planned (as opposed to sudden unexpected labour) and the docs will be able to prepare her lungs.

My little bro was born at 30 weeks and was 3 lbs and is absolutely fine. In fact he's 6'4" and a bloody genius boffin. And that was 20 years ago! You will be fine. The baby will be fine.

MN will be rooting for you both.

PS - I'm making your vegetarian moussaka tonight. Thanks for the recipe

Thinking of you Aitch and hoping all goes well

TheMadHouse · 26/08/2008 17:55

Just wanted to add my calming vibes and also growth vibes to you.

Both mine were early and DS2 had the steriods as they knew he was coming.

akent · 26/08/2008 17:56

Hi Aitch,

Thinking of you and sending lots of relaxing vibes your way.

My friend had her first at around 34 weeks because of IUGR. The little girl is still a tiny person but the feistiest 2 year old I know.

Hope all goes well.

FrannyandZooey · 26/08/2008 17:57

lots of love aitch
tell us if you need anything at all
am thinking of you and wishing all the best
xx

DonDons · 26/08/2008 17:58

Aitch - best of luck - one of my friends had her little girl at 33 weeks - 12 months on and she is a cracker. Oh and she BF'd for about 16 weeks too.

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/08/2008 18:03

Aitch - sorry to hear your news.

You will be in the best place, and hopefully will be able to relax and calm down about things, which should help the BP (once you've consumed all Califrau's calm stuff!).

I was in for a week before DS1 arrived and found it impossible to concentrate on anything so books were a non-starter. Odd, as usually I'm a voracious reader, so I would take a load of magazines in with you as well as books.

Calm and positive vibes from me as well.

CvQ · 26/08/2008 18:08

good luck aitch xxx

Bronze · 26/08/2008 18:12

Just try and keep as calm as you can as obviouslt that will help your condition. 33 weeks is doing really well and you just need to keep faith in your little one. Will be willing you good stuff from here

(dd was born 27 wks and is fabulous)

ForeverOptimistic · 26/08/2008 18:19

We thought we were going to have ds at 33 weeks but he managed to hang on until 37.

I know that feeling that it is too early and you haven't got anything ready etc. It will be fine. Good luck. Sending positive vibes.

fryalot · 26/08/2008 18:20

just saw this, have no experience or words of wisdom, but adding my thoughts to those of everyone else on here

xx

Squirdle · 26/08/2008 18:22

Aitch, I had exactly the same experience with DS1. He was born at 33 weeks after it was discovered I had Pre Eclasmpsia. He was 4lbs 15oz, but we were told he would be around the 3 and a half/4lb mark. He was in Special Care for 10 days, but that was just so he could gain weight and feed properly.

He is now 14, taller than me and wonderful.

Even if your little one is only 3lbs, it really isn't that small, not by special care standards. They will give you steriods to mature her lungs...probably tonight.

I am thinking of you. I know just how utterly scared I was when we knew I was going to have DS early.

Take care.

PookiePodgeandTubs · 26/08/2008 18:24

Two of my best friends, both gorgeous, both did brilliantly were twins born at 33 wks. Hard for their MUm I bet, but they are fine.

Squirdle · 26/08/2008 18:26

Oh and breast feeding. They will ask you to express milk for her whic they feed to her via tube (assuming she will not have the sucking reflexes developed enough) When she is a little stronger you will be able to feed her and they will top up her feed with your expressed milk. Eventually she will be able to feed well from you. I don't know if they still do it, but DS was given a dummy (much to my horror, but I soon understood why) to help with his sucking reflexes. Once I had breastfeeding well established I ditched the dummy.

PookiePodgeandTubs · 26/08/2008 18:29

I think it is the removal of all placenta tissue which triggers the body to produce milk. So you will make milk and they will use tiny amounts. Hopefully somebody will be around to advise you how to keep supply going.

Jacanne · 26/08/2008 18:41

Thinking of you Aitch and really hoping that everything goes okay. If baby comes early and you are worried about BF try www.iwantmymum.com - one of the ladies there had a preemie and managed to make sure he had nothing but BM - I'm sure she'd be able to give some advise.

Also Aitch, my eldest brother was 2lbs at birth over forty years ago and he's fine! Technology has moved on a lot since then!
