aye hedgepig his ears are fine as are his lungs and voice if today's yelling and carryings on are anything to go by

Have been totally doing the laid back chilled out parents thing here but no-one seems to have told D. I'd say he has slept for a grand total of 2 hours in the last 18. Keeps having screaming fits - including in the middle of feeding. Don't think it is wind because he will stop when placed in a different position then start up again as he is falling to sleep. And daddy goes back to work tomorrow.

Oh, and Lost in Austen? worst ending ever.

Am off to bed t eat a tub of Ben and Jerry's - there's nothing else for it...

johnworf · 29/09/2008 08:14

awww mrsb. Impending return of OH to work too. Sounds like Darragh has got wind of this (pardon the pun) and is playing up like a good un. Have you tried doing your usual stuff with him in a sling on you or OH? Can be good, can be bad. Depends on how much you want him to stop yelling

I'm having the opposite problem; having to poke K awake to feed her. Dunno what's up with her of late Will ask MW on weds if she has any ideas.

Wow JJ I'm slightly envious of all your country fairs. There's hardly anything round these parts apart form organised drive by shootings and the ASBO olympics. Sighs.

I say we all chivvy hedgepig along...here is my mine effort; BOO!!! Bet you didn't expect that did you?

I'm off to winkle DH out of his pit. He's most def in the dog house today after not doing his fair share of nappy/bottle duties

hedgepig · 29/09/2008 09:17

Ooooo that made me jump , no contractions though.
MrsB when he is screaming where are his legs? if they are pulled up it may be wind. I think boys just like screaming to be honest

johnworf · 29/09/2008 09:47

hedgepig I think you're right that boys seem to cry more.

Sorry mrsb

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 09:50

well, his legs were rigid - held straight out like he was trying to stand up. The shrieks do sound like he is in pain but I'm not sure as he will stop for a while when he is being rocked to sleep but if we stopped rocking he would start screaming. Don't have a sling yet but do intend to get one.

but hurrah - last night he kept it up til 12am then slept peacefully till 5am when he woke for a feed and went straight back to sleep until 8. Practically a miracle! He has been quite content so far this morning.

Thing is, I started him on Infocol before the 12 o'clock feed just in case it was wind or colic or whatever - surely this is a coincidence and the stuff isn't that bloody good?

OH gone back to work now. sigh.

hedgepig · 29/09/2008 10:30

sounds a bit colicy to be me from the description a friend gave me of her DD. They found the infacol helped with her, maybe worth posting on feeding???? to see what others think. So you are flying solo, I'm sure it will be fine, is he going to try and get home a bit early?

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 10:45

yeah i wondered whether it was colic... might pop over there and see...

How are you feeling today hedgepig?

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 10:49

oh and yes, OH is hopefully going to come home early...

ladymac · 29/09/2008 10:50

No idea how to describe it MrsB but mine would often be comforted if I held them face down along my forearm, with a leg dangling either side. Does that make any sense at all? I think the pressure on their tummies seemed to make a difference.

Wow jj it's certainly country fair tastic round your neck of the woods. I'm hoping that we'll be able to actually do stuff on the weekends now that the blasted cricket season has finished. DH plays for a local team and cricket took up the whole day on a saturday. Wasn't so bad when I could go and watch whilst nursing a beer or two but it's not so much fun when you can only have lemonade. By the way, I was wondering what kind of pushchair you have. I remember you saying that Iris wasn't walking when Verity came along and it's looking like Elizabeth won't exactly be running around. I have a bugaboo at the mo which I love cos I can fit tons of shopping in the basket bit. The shops are walking distance from home so I do most of it that way. Baby group and park also a walk away. I keep a Maclaren buggy in the boot of the car. Where I live is bugaboo central if you've got one child, Phil and Teds for 2. I'm leaning towards a Phil and Teds as friends that have them rate them but they get a bad press on MN and I do worry that the poor child underneath only sees the underside of the top seat. Not much of a view is it?

Hedgepig backache and period type pains are very good signs that it's all happening. Will your hospital let you go to 42 weeks? Over 40s at our local large teaching hospital are monitored thrice weekly from 38 weeks and they aren't keen for you to go far over 40 weeks. I had Elizabeth at 39 weeks so didn't have to get in a row with them! May I recommend a sweep followed by a curry and some sex which is what did it for me!

JW I'm glad you got the thrush sorted out. How wonderful to have people looking out for Katherine like that. Good old NHS. I agree with you about the missed appointment thing. Whatever happened to a bit of courtesy? Apologies for sounding like my mother/daily mail reader.

Am hoping I might get my CVS results later today. They said today at the earliest but I'm guessing it's more likely to be tomorrow. My belly has expanded so much in the last few days that I just want to be able to tell people I'm pregnant. I've been disguising it at work with scarves and long dangly necklaces but I'm running out of suitable accessories.

ladymac · 29/09/2008 10:57

Also Mrs B if the colic/going stiff thing carries on you could take him to a cranial osteopath. We are very lucky to live near the Osteopathic Centre for Children but if you are too far from London I'm sure they could put you in touch with a paediatric osteopath in your area. Their number is 0207 490 5510.

hedgepig · 29/09/2008 11:07

Ladymac I have had no comment about my age from the hosp yet. But I am just waiting for one of them to do the sums 2008 - 1966 = 42! . tbh if i have to go in for monitoring I will I think in Cambridge the average age of women giving birth is at the upper end of the spectrum that than aren't too worried about it.
Fingers crossed for the CVS results, then you can get you below the belly trousers and short tops out to show of the baba

hedgepig · 29/09/2008 11:14

MrB NHS direct has this on it about colic does it sound familiar?? here

hedgepig · 29/09/2008 11:15

sorry for suggesting a sex change MrsB

johnworf · 29/09/2008 11:37

I have tried Infacol with Katherine but MW told me it takes 3 days to kick in properly. Colicky babies usually draw their knees up to their tummies though I thought? Anyway, K is full of wind all the time..parping and burping even in her sleep. Just like her father.

Her backside is still red today but she's pooed practically every nappy change - which doesn't help matters.

hedgepig 1966 was an excellent year for bearing children. I was one of them I'm a July baby. What are you?

Very surprised no one has rounded on your re going over. Give it time

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 12:03

thanks for the link

I thought it was a knees up thing too but everything else fits. He is much improved so far today (fingers crossed)

ah yes hedgepig I think you will definitely be given the talk about Not Going Over 40 Weeks At The Advanced Age of 40+. Although if you were determined not to be induced early you could perhaps think about having a private scan to check the placental function?* I did and they said mine was perfect so I would have been ok to go over if it wasn't for the GD kerfuffle.

*this advice may not necessarily receive medical approval

hedgepig · 29/09/2008 12:13

I'm expecting a "discussion" about placental function and age this afternoon but all the information I have seen is anecdotal there doesn't seem to be a good clinic trail to support over 40 weeks at 40 and you placenta is doomed. I had a scan last week for fluid level and placenta and it was all fine then so we will see.
Glad young D is a bit better today, if he continues maybe a different brand of milk powder (not Chinese obviously) would help???? (I have no idea really)

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 12:37

I wondered what the evidence was as well but it never came to anything in the end for me. You'd think they'd give you some idea of the risk levels involved so that you could make an informed decision...

ladymac · 29/09/2008 12:39

Fluid levels and placental function was what I was scanned for 3 times a week from week 38 on. Then they sat me in one of those relaxer chairs (that June Whitfield or someone similar advertises during the ad breaks in Countdown) for half an hour to monitor the baby's heartrate. It was lovely not being able to do anything but relax for 30 minutes so I was quite happy to go. Guess it won't be so relaxing this time round with almost 2 year old in tow!

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 12:42

forgot to say in earlier post - fingers crossed for your cvs result ladymac do keep us posted!

johnworf · 29/09/2008 13:41

ditto what mrsb said, ladymac

ladymac · 29/09/2008 16:29

Thanks for all your good wishes everybody. Had phone call from hospital with GOOD NEWS! I am so relieved and happy. Now I can let it all hang out!

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 16:32

oh fantastic ladymac so pleased for you!!

mrsboogie · 29/09/2008 16:39

oh dear, I have a horrible feeling that I just fed D with a bottle out of the steriliser which hadn't done a sterilisation!

I filled the steamer up and swanned off then came back later took a bottle out for a feed and used it and when I came back later I noticed it wouldn't work because the lock was stuck.

would it be really bad to feed a 2 week old with a bottle that had only been rinsed under the tap?
