omg hedgepig. I'm all of a tizzy now. Tell your DH to PASTE FASTER, MAN!

Very exciting news dear. I really hope that IT is happening

If you're not here for a couple of days, then we'll guess where you've gone and what you're doing

hedgepig · 26/09/2008 22:03

I'm off to have a bath and go to bed. Papering is finished & DH is reading the instructions for the TENS machine (something techy for him to do I'm sure it isn't the real thing and I will be here tomorrow am talking about cake.. nighty night

johnworf · 27/09/2008 10:36

Well.....where is hedgepig? She said she'd be here...hmmm...maybe it was the real deal!

jeanjeannie · 27/09/2008 12:57

OOOOooooooooooooooo....just checked in and read Hedgepig's last post............WHAH!!!! *runs round in circles...babyhedgepig a coming? Remind me - is it hedgepig who's giving the homebirth a shot? or is that someone completely different???? Brain fog has set in.

I hope her papering got finished!

mrsboogie I think getting onto the Wiifit means that you are allowed CAKE!! Oh I'd love a Wii fit...have to make-do with the very real, non-cyberworld stepper

Night out was fab - didn't get to bed till midnight.....and yes, Verity woke up twice - sob. Am sooooo tired today and she's insisting on being picked up all the time.....my left arm is about to drop off.

Fog (weather and brain) has lifted and we're off to the farm - see those pesky goats

johnworf · 27/09/2008 14:40

I recall someone having a home birth but without the time to go back over the posts, I'm not sure who it was.

Lack of hedgepig must certainly mean that's she's on her way? Praps has the baby hedgepig in her arms are we speak?

I'm in self exile as DSS has a cough so not risking mixing in the common areas of the house. Just me and the girl holed up in the bedroom with food, water and bottles being pushed under the door on a tray. Needs must and all.

Have fun with the evil goats JJ. Glad to hear that the girls have punished you for enjoying some time off. As it should be

hedgepig · 27/09/2008 16:45

hedgegpig sheepishly sneaks in (sneak) (sneak) (sneak) ..........................false alarm I'm afraid nothing has happened at all day today, sorry I feel a bit of a twit.

JJ I'm trying for a VBAC nothing as exciting as a HB (although I am starting to see the appeal of a HB) hope you enjoyed the gaoats and they don't eat you cardi'.
JW enjoy the exile, it is a bad time of year for colds and with DSS going back to school after the break there are lots of new virus's for him to catch. Hope you can repel it at the door.

johnworf · 27/09/2008 18:43

Oh there you are (looks around for a baby hedgepig to no avail). So, baby just putting you through your paces to see how you cope? Good good.

I'm shopping online for....wait for it....christmas presents. In my defense, it's only because I can't get around the shops this year so I'm getting them out of the way and making good use of the sales. If left to DH no one will get a thing. No, I'm not going the whole hog and putting my tree up in october like some people who live on council estates do. Not worked out why they do, but they do. Anyway, Bliss has some nice xmas cards if anyone is doing charidee this year and fancies them

mrsboogie · 27/09/2008 19:35

ag hedgepig you tease us with promises of baby hedgepig when's your due date again?

Your self-imposed exile sounds very pleasant jw I'm sure the novelty would wear off but being waited on, no housework and internet shopping sounds quite good actually

jeanjeannie · 27/09/2008 20:56

hedgepig you monkey - you had us all excited. Yep - looks like Babyhedge is giving you the run-a-round before it even pops out

johnworf Crimble shopping - go on girl! I'm in awe of your planning. Well, when you're holed up in excile (all the best dictators do it!) what else is there to do but shop.

Do you NOT put lights all over the exterior of your house? We have people here who have fake snow, huge sleighs, life-size snow shakers and reindeer a go-go. I blame Costco! How can they afford it - their bills must be massive.

I usually make Xmas cards but this year I really can't be arsed....or have time. I shall take a look.

Gosh the farm was busy today but Iris only had eyes for the Donkey, the rope ladder and the tractor - everything else might as well not have been there!

Early night beckons...........ZZzzz. Oh, Casualty and a hot choccy x

OP posts:
johnworf · 27/09/2008 21:13

I'm watching Casualty as I type and listen out for K who has hiccups and has been feeding on and off since 6pm. Her bum is really sore at the mo and even after using Metanium, still not clearing. I'm thinking it might be thrush so I'll go to chemist tomorrow and try that one out.

In answer to your question re outside decoration it is a huge NO. I'm a very understated xmas decorator. It's a tree (used to be a real one every year but last year we bought a real looking artificial one - Costco natch), a wreath on the door and cards on a card tree. That's it. The first year me and DH lived together he wanted the works - just like his mum used to do. That includes tinsel from every flat surface, balloons a go-go and fake snow on anything window type. He was very disappointed when I'd finished. Ah well.

Don't get the whole full size sleigh in the front garden thingy. Nor the white icicles dangling from the gutters. Noticed that the latter are usually still dangling there in July. It's an enigma

I usually make cards with Peter for his class and help him write them but this year I noticed that ASDA do card kits in the photo paper section so might give them a go with a pic of us all or just the children on it. I'm going to buy some from BLISS as well so that should do it.

I do like to be organised as you've probably guessed (bordering on the control freak-ish) but as the Girl Guides say, 'be prepared'. Works for me but not for DH

mrsboogie · 27/09/2008 21:39

Christmas for me is generally a fairly last minute although v laid back affair. I have to confess I don't really send Christmas cards. Bah humbug and all that...

Am with you on the xmas decor front jw am the very model of restraint with one real tree - last year decorated in clear glass and silver baubles and white lights only. Have to confess I love coloured fairy lights but you can't really get the old fashioned ones any more.

What's metanium jw ? D has a red arse constantly despite us lathering on Sudocream like there was no tomorrow.

johnworf · 27/09/2008 21:46

mrsb it's available from any chemist without prescription. It's v good stuff for red arse.

www.metanium.com/

mrsboogie · 27/09/2008 21:50

ta v muchly jw

mumsnet for me has been a bit like what you imagine it was like in the olden days when you had a baby and all the other mums in the village gave you the benefit of their wisdom and told you what the remedies were etc.

its great!

jeanjeannie · 27/09/2008 21:58

Oh I like your style. A wreath on the door says SO much about a person! That tinsel (lametta) stuff should be set fire to - it's hideous.

I'm very partial to co-ordinated decorations - in fact if I'm not kept in check I can become a bit 'Martha Stewart'. As a child I was virtually besides myself at the idea of making the Blue Peter coat hanger candle-holder I like making Xmas cards - I've been wondering if I'll have the time - or inclination this year. Doubtful.

We have two Crimbo days here. First is with DPs mum on Xmas eve as that's the Polish bash with lashings of beetroot soup, mini dumplings and carp Then it's to my parent's house the next day for a full English tradional. And with DPs Dad being Serbian - I reckon there should really be a knees up on the 12th night - the Orthodox new year. Should show our face at that one if we want the girls at the font around Easter

Awww - nasty bum - yep, maybe thrush. No fun at all. Verity is teething badly - she's always got her fist in her mouth and her neck get so wet in the creases it almost bleeds. In fact there's more cream on her neck than on her bum

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 27/09/2008 22:11

Evening mrsboogie just seen your post. When Iris was in SCBU we were told that sudocrem stuff should be avoided if the bum was too red as it's got a stringent antiseptic in it which can actually make it worse We were recommended Metanium.

I agree with you - I've found out sooo much on MN - from nappies to breastfeeding, weaning to house cleaning. It keeps me out of mischief too

Shame about Paul Newman. What a gorgeous man he was. Hadn't realised he was so old. I saw him once, about 15 yrs ago - trotting down Bond Street - he saw me realise who he was and beamed a smile and nodded. His eyes were soooo blue.

OP posts:
hedgepig · 27/09/2008 22:33

evening, I have to confess I have a string if icicles that we hang off the carport, I think they look lovely. But no flashing santas or anything.
I have a big issue this Christmas which is will this be the 1st year in 42yrs I don't go to my mum and dads? I love to see them but this LO will only be 2 months old maximum and I know with previous experience with Ben that babies don't sleep too well in strange places. I really don't know how to bring the subject up with them. We don't have room here for my parents and brothers and it is 2-3 hrs drive between us so staying over will be necessary.

MrsB you only need a dab of the metanium and it is really trick to get off you hands so go easy with it. But it is brill. JW ben had thrush when he was little, his rash was white rather than bright red.

My due date is 4th oct, so getting close. I have back ache and grumbly period type pains so I think something must be happening.

mrsboogie · 27/09/2008 22:51

will get the metanium on Monday

Wee D has been scoffing like a good 'un all day - nearly every hour. Is it possible for baby to eat too much I wonder? the child is starting to develop a rather startling resemblance to Jabba the Hut about the face...

I love wreaths too but I fear that where we live if I put one on our door it'd have been kicked down the street by drunken oiks within half an hour

jeanjeannie · 28/09/2008 09:07

Oh hedgepig I think icicles about the carport are lovely. Reminds me of our John Lewis - they hang icicles around the store that you can see twinkling from the M40 motorway - all very chic

I'm sure your parents will understand. We took Iris to my parents for Xmas when she was just 8 weeks old. It was OK - she was fine but it was me that struggled. I needed my own bed, all my stuff around me and own routine. I think it can be like that when you've just had a baby.

Period type pains and back ache - sounds like it's all stirring in there. How exciting. Is Ben looking forward to it?

Off to a another country fair thing today - it's glorious out - best make the most of it

OP posts:
johnworf · 28/09/2008 10:47

JJ how many country fairs do you have near to you? We have an annual jumble sale by us and that's if it's not raining.

I am not moving anywhere on xmas day. Mind you, we didn't go anywhere last year either and I wasn't even pregnant by then! I'm a real Grinch at xmas. Actually, I'm not. I love it for the children but I hate the getting sloshed, sat in front of the telly asleep thing. When I lived in the south, I did one xmas day on the beach in Southsea. And another year I did serving at the local Salvation Army Love to see the children's faces on xmas morning and also love it being their day. My 3 will show up here with partners, have a chat, some food and usually go off to wherever they're eating. Not usually with me as now they're older they have partners parents to negotiate and they know I'm fine with them being somewhere other. Must say, not the same giving the older 3 a cheque instead of something in a large box with a bow tied to it. Still, it's K's first one this year and that's usually one of the best!

I've just been very naughty and pulled in a favour. K's bum is still no better and her feeding has dropped right off which isn't like her. Anyhoo, I'm thinking it could be thrush so I rang SCBU at Bury and spoke to my friend who I had lunch with last week.......and...she said the doctors are about to do their ward round, to bring K in and they'd look at her. If it was thrush, they had the appropriate meds there on the unit. I feel very guilty that we're getting first class treatment but if it's offered

hedgepig you're def gonna have this baby very soon by the sounds of it. And it's no point waving that calendar at your bump and babies cannot read

BTW mrsb you can get the Metanium from the nappy aisle of most supermarkets. You don't have to wait for the chemist. I found that ASDA is a full £1 cheaper than TESCO btw

mrsboogie · 28/09/2008 11:35

gosh that is good treatment jw excellent. And you shouldn't feel guilty - they offered!

johnworf · 28/09/2008 14:10

Well mrsb I don't feel guilty at all. I feel very happy though that we've got lovely friends at the unit who really are looking after us even though we're not there anymore.

We arrived there at the unit, saw doc pretty much straight away, gave us the nod that it was indeed thrush in mouth and on bum, gave us the meds and we were away. Only there 10 minutes. What splendid service we received

It's such a lovely day here today. Managed to get the washing on the line and DH has been very good and done the garden. I gave him a list y'day and he's managed most of the tasks set (think Hercules but with a slight paunch).

mrsboogie · 28/09/2008 14:20

that really is fantastic treatment JW just goes to how how much they care - that's not the sort of thing that often gets mentioned when the NHS gets slated.

when we went to have D's hearing tested on Thursday the technician told us that out of her whole day's appointment so far only we and one other couple had bothered to turn up. No-one else had even rung to cancel. She was rightly saying that people are willing to criticise the NHS but don't think twice about wasting its resources. They wouldn't bloody do it if they were paying!

johnworf · 28/09/2008 15:00

mrsb totally agree. We've had brilliant service (on the whole) with Katherine and it's still ongoing. They really have gone above and beyond for us

These parents who don't turn up - I just don't get it. Why don't they turn up? Is their child's health so unimportant to them? Ok, so a hearing test isn't life or death but do they think that people have nothing better to do than sit around and wait and see if they'll turn up or not? Pees me right off. No courtesy or thought there.

I remember one of the sisters at St Mary's talking about the eye follow ups and she said 'pound to a penny, I can tell you the parents that won't bother turning up for the follow ups before they don't bother turning up'. She gave us a knowing look after she said it and I'm giving you a knowing 'nod' via the interweb as I'm sure you'll all know the kind we're talking about here.

hedgepig · 28/09/2008 20:24

evening. Its been quite a sunny day here, I've done some baking with Ben and been to the supermarket how exciting, saw 2 people from work in Tesco and had a bit of a chin wag which was nice. Apart form that haven't done much, DH continues with the decorating it is starting to take shape. I have appointment at hosp tomorrow to book me in for my elective cs if I fail to go into labor in the prescribed time (so no pressure there then!!!). Not quite sure how long I can go over. I will be pushing for 42weeks.
JW well done on getting the thrush thing sorted so quickly, much better than trying to get a GP appointment.
MrsB I can't believe people don't turn up for screening tests it is just so daft, and then if there child does have a problem they will be 1st in the queue to complain nobody picked things up.. I hope D's ears were all OK.

jeanjeannie · 28/09/2008 20:45

Evening all - such a gorgeous day here

johnworf Nice work - fantastic NHS service - way to go! Thrush is so horrid - brill you got it sorted so quickly. I like a woman who gets an in-road to the top!

mrsboogie I think it's beyond rude not to turn up for appointments. Our doctors has a weekly DNA (do not attend) poster, highlighting the number of folk who didn't show up. I wish they'd name 'em....AND make 'em pay!! Because if they had to part with cash they'd think twice.

hedgepig Perhaps it's time to start scheduling loads of hot curries and plenty of SEX That should make sure it puts in an appearance before the 42 weeks!

jw we've got loads of country fair things here - next week over at the Hambledon Village Estate in Henley (think The Archers!) there's a Ploughing competition alongside Terrier racing
