Hello all - well, this is our third message board..so it's a popular topic.

If you're a fab forty something then please come and say Hi!

The thread lives in pregnancy as that's where it started....but it's certainly no longer confined to just being about pregnancy. It's for anyone whose a gorgeous 40 something. So get a cuppa, bring some biscuits - or cake - and have a chat x

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mrsboogie · 24/09/2008 22:26

I totally agree - just tell the little blighters what to do!If someone had asked me when I was a child whether I wanted to do x, y or z" I wouldn't have done anything I didn't want to.

Very suspicious about the motives of that school - do they have their own team of scientists to tell them that the vaccine isn't that effective or what? The idea that giving girls a vaccine will make them more promiscuous is utterly ludicrous. What girl ever didn't have sex because of the fear of developing cervical cancer in ten or twenty years? If the thought of getting pregnant there and then doesn't stop them why would the threat of cancer in the dim and distant future? Even the Catholic Church supports the programme.

Oooh hot chocolate reminds me of lovely treat I had to stop during pregnancy; had a bottle of Disaronno (almondy liqueur) left over from Xmas and popped some in a Whittards' hot chocolate one night. Totally yummy. Must recommence this naughtiness forthwith...

johnworf · 25/09/2008 09:07

mrsboogie I suspect that the school's motives are indeed religious. If so, then K will have it done privately as otherwise, the school is excellent. As you say, if they think that by not offering the vaccine then the girls will delay sex then they're not of this world!

Peter has been doing 'the limp' today to get out of swimming. Obviously the arm band episode traumatised him. No way is he getting out of it. His leg would have to be hanging off!!!!

DH is in dog house as he did the old coma routine at 2am this morning. Nuff said.

Anyhoo, oven cleaning lady is here and it's already looking sparkly Doesn't take much to make me happy

mrsboogie · 25/09/2008 14:24

fantastic jw its a very pleasing little luxury to get someone in to do a horrible job like that. Plus since they are getting paid to do it they are bound to do it better! I can't think of a better way to spend a few quid!!

We are just back from the hospital for D's hearing test anafternoon. His vibrating rocker chair has arrived and it is keeping his all relaxed and sleepy despite his best gimlet eyed attempts to stay awake and grizzle. So we are at liberty to listen to my new cd which also arrived this morning - its called the mix tapes and is a load of sevenies and 80s indie stuff like David Sylvian, Ultravox, talk talk etc and the tracks are not the obvious ones. It's fab. Takes me right back, it does.

jeanjeannie · 25/09/2008 15:29

mrsboogie - you've set me off, I've now got Talk Talk in my head! Oooo, now that sounds like a proper CD - with proper music. Although - I am very much a woman stuck in the early 90s with my Stone Roses, Primal Scream and Oasis...sad I know! Not sure if it's having kids later on wot does it but I've been reminiscing of late about the good old days!

Oven lady johnworf you are indeed a woman of means. How damm marvellous.....didn't know such people exisited

Hope you DSS wasn't too traumatised by his swimming today!

I needed you lot around me today to stand up to an old battleaxe of a woman. She told me off at the playgroup because Verity was crying as i put her under a playgym. I had no choice as Iris was disembowling another youngster who'd ripped a push-a-long pram she was playing with away from her. She yelled at me to pick up my baby and take care of it And then she went to pick Verity up while shouting at me WHAHHAHAHAHA GGggrrrrrr....biatch! Anyway I shouted 'leave her' by which time verity was very happy playing away. So she bad-mouthed me for the rest of the session. Turns out she's a real hard-nosed childminder. Nice.

Off to attempt to make Iris something she'll actually eat for dinner....any ideas?

johnworf · 25/09/2008 16:35

Come across those commandant child minders on my travels in the past JJ. Just take your coat off, roll up your sleeves and shout "ok lady, outside now!" WTF do they think they are telling you what to do with your children? OOOh it so brings out the beast in me when people start telling me about my children. Didn't you shout 'step away from the baby' when she picked up Verity? I would have been absolutely furious if she'd done that to one of mine .

Wow mrsb you've been on a proper spending spree. Aren't they fab? Nothing like a bit of retail you make you smile.

Oh, I cannot praise oven cleaning lady enough. Bloody marvellous and the oven looks new! All for £60. Cheap at twice the price. If any of you ladies are interested, here is their website. She used none of those smelly acrid chemicals to do it. Just elbow grease Oh, and some acid stuff for the shelves but those were all done outside in her van and they came back smell free and brand spanking new.

Well K has had her Synergis jab today to ward off evil bronchiolitis. Hopefully it'll do the trick. She screamed the place down but what can you do apart from feel their pain and also feel mightily guilty?

Mummy dilemmas.

mrsboogie · 25/09/2008 17:00

what a cow jj that would really annoy me - especially if she carried on muttering about me afterwards. That would give me the raging hump, nosy interfering old baggage!

ehm yeah jw I have kind of been spending a teensy wee bit too much of late - making up for lost time, plus sat here at home with the internet at my fingertips positively humming with yummy things to buy. Must. stop. spending.

johnworf · 25/09/2008 19:04

mrsb you're preaching to the already retail converted....although in my defense m'lud, I do buy a lot from Ebay...but also Amazon, M&S and anywhere else that sells nice stuff

jeanjeannie · 25/09/2008 20:51

Evening ladies. I've calmed down now. I shall have my obligatory hot choccy for soothing purposes and I'm watching The Restaurant so I can shout at people who seem to know nowt about cooking! It's lowering my blood pressure

Shopping...MMMmmm. I don't count ebay as shopping. It's not really real

I want a whole new wardrobe of clothes. I'm depressed by my look. Even with 20 years in the fashion industry I still need GOK to come and shop with me! It's these knockers....I've never had them before....and i don't like them...I don't know how to dress them. Which reminds me - Iris's new word of the moment is....Boobies! She thinks they're hilarious.

OP posts:
johnworf · 25/09/2008 20:57

We're also watching The Restaurant. What a load of disorganised idjits. Can't believe Msr Blanc is so desperate. Even DH looks organised against these lot. Ho hum. Good entertainment factor.

Make the most of your boobs while you have them jj. Once your milk has gone, then they'll be like mine; spaniels ears I vote you go for the Barbara Windsor look circa 1973. OOOOh Matron!

mrsboogie · 25/09/2008 21:17

I am recording the Restaurant and watching the baby mind reader for a laff - bloke what reckons he has a telepathic connection with teeny babies and toddlers. Goes to people's houses who have problems with their children and comes out with random stuff that he reckons the child is telling him like mummy has a bruise on her arse! Tells them the most blindingly obvious stuff like your baby is looking for your attention or your baby won't go to sleep when you want him to but when he feels like it...

johnworf · 25/09/2008 21:25

NO! Surely not! A baby that wants attention The man is obviously a genius!

jeanjeannie · 25/09/2008 21:44

OOooo jw 1973 you say? - a Dahling year for fashion

mrsboogie I shan't say who good old Ray kicked off - but let's just say I was delighted with the choice

Oh God - now we're watching some bunch of weirdo Americanos who are into the whole 'no sex before marriage' malarky Oh no - there's a creepy Dad (who looks like he'd download porn once all his 7 kids were out of the room) and now the Mum is weeping cos she's all overcome with lurve..........BUCKET.....I'm gonna hurl

OP posts:
johnworf · 26/09/2008 09:01

Obviously qual-i-dee tv time in your house last night JJ.

Me and the Princess went to bed early as she'd done nothing but feed from 7-9.30pm so was clearly STUFFED!

Not bad though; 4.30am next feed. Result!

hedgepig · 26/09/2008 09:54

morning I was awake at 4:30 JW for some reason I can't think of....... oh I needed a wee AGAIN. Very good going young K soon it will be 6 o'clock before you want a night feed an mummy will be an extra happy bunny.
I'm really bored of waiting now, have a mw visit at lunch time to look forward to, I suppose I should try and tidy a little bit.
JJ what a old bat at play group hope you slashed her tyres on the way out!
MrsB like the sound of the CD, any Jesus and Mary chain on it?? I love feedback so much. Currently blasting out Metallica in the car DH hates it tee hee Ben seems to like it hurrah

johnworf · 26/09/2008 10:15

hedgepig really didn't have you down as a Metallica rock chick at all! Err J&MC??? Wow, that takes me back some years to the Hacienda, circa 1985. Those were the days indeedy. From the hazy early onset dimentia memories I have, they were FAB!

Nice to know there was another soul up at the ungodly hour I was. You should have rung me. We could have had a chat about your weeing and my burpings oh, and the ginormous poo K did Always a bright side to everything.

Well, hope all goes well today with your MW, which I'm sure it will do. On the home straight now eh dear? This is the worse time methinks....waiting...taps fingers...more waiting....

I've been let out today. WOO HOO! I'm off for lunch with one of the sister's from SCBU. She rang me on Weds to arrange so I'm very much looking forward to a fine trough, a gossip and seeing the big wide world once again

Huzzah for me.

hedgepig · 26/09/2008 10:31

lunch out how splendid stuff your face my dear. I am toying with going to a coffee morning as this is the most excitement I have as an option today, but I'm really sure what a coffee morning is!

johnworf · 26/09/2008 10:50

hedgepig it involves gin and gossip

ladymac · 26/09/2008 10:53

Can I join the 'up at 4.30am club'? My bladder kindly woke me at 4am and I tossed and turned for a while before giving up and reading. Fell back to sleep at six, only to be woken by DH's alarm going off at 6.30. So I have just laid Elizabeth down for a nap and have got back into bed for a wee rest.

Had the dreaded CVS yesterday and it wasn't too bad. It was done by a very nice (female) consultant, with my (female) consultant assisting so feel I had the best possible treatment. They took their time explaining the procedure to me and made me feel at ease so I was fairly relaxed when it was time to lay on the bed. The placenta was in a good position to access and the baby cleverly kept away from the giant needle going in through my tummy so all seemed to go okay. The positive thing was that when she scanned to check the baby's position she measured the nuchal fold and said that it was a normal measurement. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that's a good sign. Results to come monday or tuesday. I had the period type pain that I was told would follow and as yet I have had no bleeding. Watch this space for updates!

hedgepig · 26/09/2008 13:02

well done ladymac fingers crossed it will be a good result. Take it easy (if you can) and insist DH pampers you over the weekend.

JW oh bugger it was gin and gossip I decided it would be twee middle class ladies so I decided to stay here and wibble on the "net", I have done very well I haven't spent any money yet

jeanjeannie · 26/09/2008 14:04

The 4.30am club - I'll join. That was when verity had her feed. I forgot to give her boob at 11pm - so I was rudely awoken. Mind you we had a hooting owl and sexually frustrated cats making one hell of a racket outside our window at that time - bloody wildlife

ladymac glad it went well - now just the wait. A good nuchal fold reading is already a superb sign keep us posted.

hedgepig I never had you down for a Metallica fiend either!! Mind you - wasn't their album the album of the week on Radio 2 the other day - I was slightly perplexed! The Jesus & Mary Chain.....oh my word. Taking me back to Rock City and my student days! Happy times
When I had great skin and hair like a mad gothic bird's nest

johnworf hope lunch and gossip was fun. I've been out spending. Found some FAB vests in Mothercare - almost Scandinavian'esque'

I've put up a new pic of Verity the porker wearing it. She's just a riot of colour!

Going out tonight - so see comedian Mark Steele - can barely conceal my excitement about being unleashed on the world minus children

OP posts:
hedgepig · 26/09/2008 14:34

mumsnet is so slow today it is driving me crazy. Lovely colorful picture of Verity, hmmmmm she thinks maybe girls clothes aren't too bad after all.
I have posted a new bump picture with me in a pink shirt ....it was 2nd hand and cheap! and one of Ben looking very cute with a sticker on his nose (don't ask).
J&MC are fab, DH hates them too. Unfortunately I think they will never reform

johnworf · 26/09/2008 15:26

JJ like the babygro. We've a few like that in K's drawer. Very trippy yet girly pink too

hedgepig nawwwwwwww you don't look fat. You look up the duff old girl! Won't be long now before it'll just hang there, flabby and limp like mine. Look! I'm just trying to cheer you up!! (luckily for you I didn't post 'hang there, flabby and limp and match the boobs that are almost meeting it' like mine )

Lovely lunch. We're going to do it all again next week I think. Gosh it's all go this week. What with lunch AND oven cleaning, I'm knackered.

ladymac well it's done now so we'll all be crossing our fingers and toes that your results is scorchio! I'm sure it will be. We're all having PMA today aren't we girls?

JJ enjoy tonight. I've seen Mr Steel on a couple of programmes and he's very good. I'll be with you in spirit although in body I'll be somewhere between coma-like state and hysteria.

Think the goblins/hamsters that run Mumsnet are doing some tidying up work which is why it might be running slow.

mrsboogie · 26/09/2008 18:10

'ello all

Ooooh love the colourful outfit jj I would be feeling envious of the girly loveliness but am much consoled by having seen some yummy little boys clothes in Zara this week - wee argyle type sweaters and teensy itsy bitsy little duffel coats - most cute - can't wait till D is a wee bit bigger and can sport these.

hedgeig you look positively trim - when I was pg and unexpectedly caught sight of myself in that side on view in a shop window or whatever I would be momentarily stunned - size of a bus I was. Because of my huge boobies I was convinced my bump was small - and every time I said this to anyone else I would get a raised eyebrow in reply.

I have my own small contribution to add to the thread's general sense of re-entering the real world - I got my hair done today!! yay By the judicious application of certain lovely noxious chemicals the great streak of wiry grey at the front of my barnet is no more!! And its all straight and silky. I am me again!

Oh, also ,in CAKE news - I popped into Marks to replenish my supply of the new hazelnut and caramel cake and guess what I espied upon the shelf? yep.. another new CAKE-this one is ginger and rhubarb and is, if anything, even nicer - like something that would take first prize in a baking competition.

I think I will shortly be forced to retire, at least temporarily, from CAKE reporting duties ladies we are invited to the wedding of some work colleagues in a few weeks and there are at least three or four of my male work colleagues who will not hesitate to tell me how fat I am, recent childbirth notwithstanding. Starting with the Wii Fit on Monday....

johnworf · 26/09/2008 19:24

life is far too short to be cake free

hedgepig · 26/09/2008 20:44

Ooooo Rhubarb & Ginger sounds positively yummy, pity m&S is closed a the moment. MrsB you can not give up cake, why not give up real food and stay with cake

I don't want to jink anything but I think something may be happening I have been having realy strong BH type contractions from 3 this afternoon and they are not letting up, also my back is aching. I'm going to get my timer out and see if there is a pattern ekkkk. DH is furiously wallpapering as I type, so even if it isn't the start of labor at least the decorating has stepped up a pace hurrah
