ladymac your booking in appointment sounds fab - I remember being asked to confirm that OH and I were not blood relatives but I definitely received no midwifely wisdom about neglecting a man's carnal needs

johnworf · 19/09/2008 19:11

mrsboogie I asked if the meds affected her poo and MW thought not. Just a blip as it's now back to mustard.

hedgepig · 19/09/2008 20:17

JW sorry my brain not in gear at all, Ben had green poo when he was very small he had a bit of a cold at the time and I was told this was totally normal.
Hey MrsB you are now officially a lady that lunches! well done for sorting out a baby friendly place already it is best to go with the flow than struggle with a buggy into places it just won't fit.
Ladymac what a bizzare thing for a mw to be on about! Does she work for Relate part time.

I'm very pissed off today I struggled into Cambridge today to Bravissiomo to try and get a nursing brs, their catalogue claims they stock a 36L so I was hopeful it would fit but no they have discontinued it argggg. The fitter was lovely and apologetic and said they were going to complain to head office. I did found a lovely Scandinavian childrens clothes shop though, whihc I will have to go back to when I know what flavour baby I have.

I have just taken the stabilizers off Bens bike and have been trying to help him balance on it running up and down the road, on reflection maybe this isn't the best thing to do a 8 1/2 months pg !

jeanjeannie · 19/09/2008 20:22

Ah - cake/choccy news.....good girls, as it should be!

Johnworf we shall stop off at Morrisons first thing tomorrow - I shall make DP get shed loads of G&B for my b'day That'll keep me happy!

mrsboogie the M&S cake sounds devine - very partial to a nut-based cake! Glad you got out with young master-boogie - it's been totally gorg weater. VERY of his ability to sleep!

Off to the nursing home to see my Nan tomorrow - best pack a swimsuit then as it's that blinkin hot in there! It's her 97th birthday not sure if she'll recognise me though

Caught DP on the John Lewis website last night - said he was pressie hunting for my b'day..........Oooooo, *claps hands like a small child

JJ he wasn't looking a hedge trimmers was he???

johnworf · 20/09/2008 08:46

Argh. PC ate my post.

Is it your b'day today jj? If so, many happy returns. Hope you like your new pipe rack that your OH gets you from John Lewis. Mebbe you'll drop lucky and get the workbench or jigsaw drill.

Have fun seeing your nan. DH's dad is in a home and although he's pretty fit physically, he's away with the fairies most of the time. Lovely though. Hasn't seen LO yet as those places are a hive of disease.

hedgepig I phone ahead everywhere now so I don't waste any time. Just a tip to avoid disappointment Thanks for tip on green poo. I shall write it down in my little red book

johnworf · 20/09/2008 11:06

Just been checking out the Bliss website regarding RSV as the season is now upon us. Seems I should be booking a flu jab for myself and DH as a just in case. K is to have the Bronchiolitis jab (1st one next week) each month so fingers crossed. Just means we have to avoid crowds, people with colds, kids! etc until March next year when the season is over. K is targetted as she is high risk from anything chest related because of her chronic lung disease.

I'm off to hibernate

hedgepig · 20/09/2008 17:25

that sounds like a good reason to be terribly anti-social JW. Just ask friends and family to post CAKE through the letter box . You could also go all Japanese and wander around in surgical masks for the winter months. Seriously it is well worth being as careful as possible for her 1st winter

johnworf · 20/09/2008 17:41

hedgepig I've already considered the surgical masks but not mentioned it to DH as he thinks I'm well on my way to being a cranked out Howard Hughes wannabe. It's so hard though cos you really do want to protect them and K is very high risk.

I've just ordered 2 humidifiers/air purifiers for the house which I believe help.

I am officially a recluse now

mrsboogie · 20/09/2008 18:27

well, I was going to say that its a very good excuse to limit all kinds of contacts. I take it this is just for her first winter jw? Not easy though if you have a child in school living in the house - that's the main route for spreading colds and nasties - you'll have to put the whole family on Vitamin C and echinacea and garlic capsules and all that type of thing. There's nothing daft about using masks if anyone in the family did have a cold - if it works who cares! Your DSS might even find it a novelty...

update re my latest cake discovery: - the Marks and Spencer Hazelnut and Caramel is absolutely effing gorgeous - moist and yummy and tasted like a home made cake. A definite thumbs up from Boogiemansions ! Only prob is it looks like it might go stale quite quickly so you have to have two slices at a time ..ahem..

mrsboogie · 20/09/2008 18:32

using some of that anti-bacterial hand rub before handling Katherine might help also as cold germs are supposed to spread via touch quite a lot aren't they?

johnworf · 20/09/2008 21:00

mrsb way ahead of you! We use anti bacterial handwash soap before picking her up and before/after doing anything. Honestly, my hands are in a terrible state at the mo with it all. DH bought some of that Carex stuff which basically strips your hands of skin so made him go back and get some nicer stuff. So we're using the Simple now. Not nice having bleeding knuckles

I'm formulating a plan this evening in the event of someone having a cold or even worse, a cough. It'll involve me, being in isolation with Katherine in our bedroom. Food pushed under the door. That kind of scenario. Only fly in the ointment is if I'm the one with the dreaded lurgy. What then? I feel I should banish myself to the shed or at least, the office.

Sorry to sound so boring but did I mention I was talking to 2 of the mums at school on Friday about Katherine and her dodgy chest, coughs, colds, hospitals etc? Anyway, one of the mums said yeah, keep everyone away as she would. Don't spare feeling etc etc much as I would say. The other mum nodded all the way through then at the end said to me (I kid you not) "so will it be ok if I pop round later to see her then"?) Mind you, this is also the mum who phones up to see if her son (who is in DSS's class) can come and play .....like the day that Katherine came out of hospital. I mean she's nice enough but FFS! I need to spell everything out to her.

calm blue ocean. calm blue ocean.....

I'm liking the sound of this m&S cakey. I shall write another list and send DH out for some as I must give it a try

jeanjeannie · 20/09/2008 21:22

Evening all!

johnworf - I think that all sounds like a splendid excuse to all stay indoors over winter - crank up the heating and be all cosy - with surgical masks, obviously! Frankly - going outside and socialising in the winter months is - over-rated

Well at 97 my nan is official away with the fairies and looks like a very thin tortoise It's the first time she's not recognised me and we didn't stay long. She kept shouting "I can't concentrate - I can't take it all in" Iris was a bit freaked out and Verity - who'd been up all night with the onslaught of a heavy cold just sneezed in her car-seat. Reckon leaving was a good idea as the germs from her alone could possibly have wiped everyone out in there who was frail and over 90

DP came in from Costco last night with a huge CAKE! Yes, my birthday CAKE (43 tomorrow...) It's a supersize-me white cream thing with strawberries - pleasing I'm gonna put my face in it tomorrow and suck hard

mrsboogie good to hear the caramel and hazlenut number lived up to all expectations - then again, it wasn't just cake - it was M&S CAKE!

hedgepig hedge trimmers you say? I shall keep you posted - if it's a toaster - I'm leaving !

OP posts:
johnworf · 20/09/2008 22:07

jeanjeannie I'm putting my money on one of those nose/ear trimmers. You did say you needed a pair didn't you?

OOoh I likes those Costco b'day cakes. Managed almost a quarter by myself last time one was shoved under my nose.

Sorry to hear about your nan. I'm imagining a scenario of your nan and DH's dad (also in a nursing home) and wondering what mad conversation that would be like. I reckon there'd be a lot of shouting and some extra incontinence pads involved.

Hoping you have a lovely day tomorrow and that Verity isn't laid too low with her sniffles. Are you having 43 candles on your cake? Have you alerted the fire station? Do you have a fire extinguisher? etc etc. I'll await my piece arriving by post; flat and stale

Yes, yes yes! You're all right of course and I shall not leave the house unless it is burning down. I'm thinking of having one of those perspex sheets fitted over the front door with just a slit to speak through. That should also ward off germs. Perhaps sealing DSS in a bubble until March would also help matters.................

Anyway, I'm in bed as I type this. DH has been watching Ryder cup all blinking afternoon/evening. I'm bored stupid so taken to my bed with Katherine who just will not settle. Probably all the excitement of the golf. She's just guzzled bottle after bottle with an hours gap inbetween. Not sure if this is a short growth spurt or she has worms.

mrsboogie · 20/09/2008 23:50

sorry jw telling mummy how to suck eggs eh?

You could try installing a decontamination shower at the front door - it might have the added bonus of discouraging your less perceptive visitors like the school gate lady

that's exactly what my wee fella is doing - bottle after bottle with an hour in between at least twice a day. You can nearly see him growing. Getting a bit more ratty and hard to settle too. Which is normal and therefore good. I still haven't fully got my head round the fact that he is here. He is so lovely it scares me.

mrsboogie · 20/09/2008 23:52

happy birthday tomorrow jeanjeanie hope your birthday pressie is fab!

johnworf · 21/09/2008 07:46

mrsb nah. All suggestions gratefully accepted. Never thought of decontamination shower. Excellent idea! I shall run out to B&Q and see if they have any left.

K fed and fed last night like there was a milk shortage. 3 bottles of 4oz's with an hours break inbetween....then slept. Amazingly well until 2am and it's 7.40 and she's still zzzzzzzz away. Actually if you look from crib to bed very quickly, father and daughter look very similar; slight snore, mouth wide open, trumping away.

mrsb did you change your LO's food to the next stage stuff (full curd is it?). I had a quick look in the supermarket on Friday and they all say from birth for hungier babies so might be worth a pop. Good luck and hopefully you'll find something to sate his appetite.

We've the decorator #2 tomorrow along with numerous hospital appointments throughout the week. The chuckle brothers finally showed up yesterday to fit our new radiator and I must say, it's very good (as radiators go). It's all falling into place nicely...mwahahaha

johnworf · 21/09/2008 10:15

HIPPO BIRDY, TWO EWES JJ

Sending you birthday ((hugs))

p.s. hope you liked your nose/ear trimmer from OH.

mrsboogie · 21/09/2008 13:12

yep I got the next one up - hasn't made any discernible difference though - oh no I tell a lie - he is pooing twice as much mustard out

johnworf · 21/09/2008 13:48

in one end.............

hedgepig · 21/09/2008 14:13

Happy Birthday JeanJeannie i hope you are having a good day.

Glad to see we are on poo again . The Ryder cup hey JW I caught 30secs of it on the news and I was asleep yawnnn

I'm very frustrated today, the decorating goes on (nad on and on and on) DH is feeling crap but he won't let me help so I am sitting on my hands like a real spare party. I love decorating (does that make me a bit sad?) I'm going to hoover out the car instead.

johnworf · 21/09/2008 15:19

blimey hedgepig life in the fast lane huh? You're as racy as I am...that's very racy indeed. I've been cleaning out the kettle. It's awful. Thinking of just buying another one as it's very old as well (and not efficient energy wise). Other than that, I've changed the beds.

Personally, I would leave your DH to the decorating. I used to love it but now my back hates it. I'm old

Glad it's not just me that finds golf boring. We also have snooker and today, it's chelsea v man utd on the tv. I'm off to poke my eyes out with a rusty fork after I've fed the K-ster. She's flat out (with all the exciting tv no doubt) and I'm having to poke her awake for food. Mind you, she did stuff herself silly last night. Perhaps it's a growth spurt?

mrsboogie · 21/09/2008 16:33

I have done no housework today - the sum total of my non-baby related activity has been reading the Observer Food Monthly supplement and mainlining caffeine (not had much in the sleep department last night) Darragh exerted himself by eating hourly and refusing to go to sleep in his cot all night. So today he is having to be poked awake for food and we are too tired to move . Which is fine except OH's parent's just popped round and the house was in total shite and I was still in my jammies at 3pm. Not that they care a jot of course...

johnworf · 21/09/2008 16:56

lmfao! excellent mrsb

very good

jeanjeannie · 21/09/2008 21:10

CAKE coming through....make way....CAKE!!

Yes, birthday sponge with lashings of starwberries and cream for everyone cos I can't finish it all

Thank all for birthday greetings. 43 is a 'Dahling' of an age - I LOVE it already

DP bought me just what I wanted - a do-it-yourself Brazilian wax kit...AND ear trimmers Whahah - NAH - not really.

I got one of those plasma screen photo frames. I'm a total photography bore - so I'm cock-a-hoop And my spa day at Hartwell House has been booked. Yep, I'm gonna get slathered in algae, wrapped in cling film and left to baste for an hour - cool!

Went over to the Chiltern Open air Museum today - Iris had a hoot. Took her on a cart ride pulled by a huge shire horse - she was very pleased with it all.

Meanwhile - you lot have been hoovering out the car, changing the beds and cleaning the kettle. WOW - wild weekend girls

mrsboogie In jimjams at 3pm, reading Observer monthly while mainlining caffenine - now THAT'S what I call a Sunday. Good girl - give yourself a shiny - sorry, too much Cbeebies!
