oh god jw soorry - no ideas on how to get rid of them but I feel your pain - we had a similar incident when a ripe banana fell down behind the fruit bowl and remained undetected for days. Took a few days for them all to go. Yuk.

We've just been out for our first walk with himself in the buggy. and I managed to pop into sainsbury's for some jam and cream doughnuts on the way back Undercarriage hooding up fairly well - so hopefully we can walk into town tomorrow and look at baby things.

mrsboogie · 17/09/2008 17:10

errr that was meant to be undercarriage (mine) holding up fairly well. Not some kind of weird post natal happening that no-one has ever heard of ....

jeanjeannie · 17/09/2008 17:10

mrsboogie I take it you mean your undercarriage and not the prams...???

Well done on getting out

Ok, we've not had it mentioned all day, so here it is....POO!

I've rung SCBU up as K's is now the verdant shade and consistency of pesto. They say it's fine if she's feeding ok but I'm sorry, it's too late now...I have on my head a hat which reads 'Fretting Mother'. So she's feeding well but having lots of trumps and was a bit sick tonight but I figured that could be the reflux or the vile coloured mobile I've just made her stare at. I've sent DH out for a thermometer just in case and I've noted everything down in my little red book (yes, I record everything in this; time, milk took, bowels, urine, sats, you name it) to show neonatal MW on friday. I'm not really that worried tbh but having a premmie puts you a little more on alert.

So mrsboogie did you take the brand spanking new pram - with it's very clean tyres - out for a run around the shops? Marvellous. And weatherman say 'yes' to nice weather this weekend. In fact, from tomorrow onwards if we're to believe him. Get your hot pants out girls

jeanjeannie your girls need a serious talking to. I think it's just Iris' way of showing mummy that she's fully recovered now and wants to make up for lost bothering time. Verity is obviously catching on quick and picking up lots of hints and tips on how to put mummy in an early grave. Oh I remembered a good tip for old ladies who stare at your children when they're playing up....stare back at them. Freaks them out every time.

Anyway, very busy this evening. New 'OK' magazine is out and I need to peruse and bring myself up to date on Jordan's surgery and who is shagging who

johnworf · 17/09/2008 18:58

I meant whom

pwcbird · 17/09/2008 20:44

JW I have the answer to fruitflies. Eat no fresh fruit or vegetables. If you must eat fruit - then tins only. Tinned fruit cocktail.

Also, fyi, my sister always beat us at Trivial Pursuit and swore it was because of all she learnt from Hello and OK magazines. They are our encyclopdia of modern celebrity.

Following on from this: Important question: Yes or no to Posh's pixie look? I am a big YES though Gok says No. I love Gok but disagree with him on this matter. She suits pixie so much better than Wag long hair.

On anothern note entirely went to the gp this week who got me an appt with a consultant on 21 Oct to discuss everything. She was lovely (gp) and said not to try again until after consultant meeting as it was a late m/c. I googled the consultant when I got home and found that apparently he's under a 5 year warning from the GMC after giving a woman MRSA and not treating her for it . Trying not to panic about it.

Love to all and mrsboogie you are a looker for sure. Crikey I'm going to have to get myself in shape to stay on this thread! Oh and btw JW I got called 'nana' by some dreadful oikish woman in a lift the other week when I was out with DS. I was mortified and have been entirely snobbish about this dreadful slur against me. It is utterly a disgrace!

jeanjeannie · 17/09/2008 22:21

johnworf 'The Katherine Diaries' sound riveting I'm sure she'll enjoy reading them when she gets older - a right little Bridget Jones raver!!

Jordan has had surgery? I thought she was 100% pure natural. Pray - do tell what she's had done!

And, not to be a pedant but I think you can technically say - 'who is shagging who' - it depends on the style of the person or publication. 'whom' is much like 'whilst'...a bit 18th century foppish! I know a few newspapers I've worked for don't use either word - so yer could've got away with it!!

pwcbird I can't abide that Posh bird BUT that pixie haircut just screams, yes, yes, yes I'm all agog that THE GOK says NO! How queer

Ooo the consultant sounds interesting. Still, I know doctors who say MRSA is fairly rampant and if a patient has been on antibiotics for any length of time, then they really are at risk before even walking into a ward. Still - worth bearing in mind.....perhaps you could ask him about it.....or maybe not! Hopefully he'll give you some encouragement and confidence. Good for you though for getting it all sorted and talked through so quickly

COSTCO! pwcbird my DP has just announced that one is opening in Croydon SOON All hail to the HUMUNGUS cakes, fake grecian marquees (that's yer summer patio sorted) and the catering size amounts of everything coming your way. Enjoy!

Off to bed - just eaten way too much again. When will I learn that this isn't the way to get back into a size 10

mrsboogie · 17/09/2008 23:20

nana? what an effin' cheek pwcbird how very very dare she? I would never be so bold as to make assumptions like that about a complete stranger. A good kick up the ar*e she wanted!

mrsboogie · 17/09/2008 23:26

oh and the latest Posh coiffure? a definite yes I say, although I cannot abide the woman. It really suits her face and takes years off her. But don't get me started on Posh; the woman has everything a person could wish for yet seems to live a life of abject dissatisfaction and misery and is obsessed with her appearance to the apparent exclusion of almost everything else. She is one of those people who is miles younger, richer and slimmer (not to mention the husband )than me yet I wouldn't trade places with her for a second.

Kaz1967 · 17/09/2008 23:51

mrsboogie no prob I was a little worried I had deleted the email by accident

The flat is happening slowly not going to say any more in case I jinx it

Kez is getting nice and fat had her weighed at the breastfeeding group and she is now a porky 11lb 10oz (5.28kg) She slept through last night from about 22.30-6.30 what is the betting she will not do that again for months or years LOL we have also had 2 evenings of tears and hysterical screaming (Her and me on Mon night and her tonight)

johnworf · 18/09/2008 08:40

haha. I love 'Katherine's Diary'! It's a product of becoming institutionalised. My life for the past 4 months has revolved around how much she's drank, how much she's expelled etc etc and it's a very hard habit to break. Although being super dooper organised, it does help me to look back to see that she's taking enough milk to honour a weight gain. Tomorrow is weighing in day, so we'll see.

Glad to hear that Kez is doing fab on the weighing in front. Blimey, she'll be relegated to the 'heavy weight' rank soon Hope the unmentionable is coming along. I shan't mention the unmentionable in case, well you know

Pendantry is to be admired jeanjeannie. Not enough of it nowadays hence all standards are plummeting. And what is wrong with the word 'whilst'? I use it liberally

Glad you mentioned those fake Grecian marquees jeanjeannie. WTF buys those monstrosities?? And they're not even cheap. They're about £2k or something outrageous.

No comment on the posh hairdo. It'll be long again next week. In the rare interview I've seen of her she comes over as being 'almost' down to earth. Not sure if she is or not and it's just a media hype that puts out mood pics of her. Dunno but honestly don't really care. However,Jordan's surgery of late has been a marathon. That women either needs a medal or a straight jacket. Hmmm which one.....

hedgepig · 18/09/2008 09:28

pcwbird good news on the lovely gp and the quick consultant referral, sometimes it can take ages to get to see a consultant. You can't catch MRSA off him from talking, just take some gloves to shake hands . Good reminder too about tinned fruit, I have just scoffed some peaches yummmm
JW I think K's diary will be a good read along with my friends sick diary. She was ill all the way through her pg and kept a diary of every time she vomited It includes hints of what tastes nice going down as well as coming back up (all dairy is a no no) . She's a bit odd my friend.
Kaz fingers crossed for the thing that shall not be named!"
Off to the hosp this PM for a late check on fluid levels and placental function. TBH I'm stressing about it (I had no fluid at the end of the last pg which along with the breech position and no movements was the reason for the cs), I'm sure it will be fine but am just concerned there will be a problem and I won't be coming home tonight. I have nothing to base this on apart from the previous experience but I'm irrationally worrying (twit!!)

johnworf · 18/09/2008 11:28

hedgepig I'm loving the Sick Diaries. I would gladly buy it

Good luck with your appointment today. I'm sure you'll be back on the thread this evening telling us all about it. The stress of it all!! It just doesn't end does it?

johnworf · 18/09/2008 11:29

kaz1967 I meant of course that Kez would be promoted, not relegated. Duh @ me

hedgepig · 18/09/2008 11:56

thanks JW I'll let you know how I get on. I will let my friend know that she may have a market if she ever publishes it. I think she kept the record to show her daughter but it's not really the sort of thing you would want to show your child is it???. I can't imaging saying and "Look how sick i was to have you...." to a child.

Just saw on a childbirth thread that Ipanemagirls waters have probably broken - how exciting.

johnworf · 18/09/2008 12:14

ooh hedgepig. Breaking waters news! The stork's about to land...again

For anyone interested, here is today's news re CVS testing. Was a piece on Channel 4 news last night featuring jeanjeannies Doc, Prof Nicolaides.

hedgepig · 18/09/2008 12:26

cripes that CVC article is very interesting. Luckily I never had to get that far. woopss I just scoffed loads of cheese and onion crisps, I must brush my teeth before the hosp visit.

jeanjeannie · 18/09/2008 13:53

OOer johnworf that's a very interesting article. I have to say the consultant at our hospital seemed soooooo out of his depth that I genuinely didn't trust anyone but the prof himself! He was so confident and assured that I didn't have a hesitation in letting him do it - but I've read some scary things on MN with consultants seeming so unsure how to do the procedure....makes you wonder.

Just have to say pwcbird that tinned fruit is evil. Although tinned fruit cocktail is a genius concept. I once took it to a party with some evaporated milk as the hostess (miserable old posh hag) asked everyone to bring something for pudding

But do you remember "Trout Hall Grapefuit" - ahhh, that label, with a soft focus cut glass bowl against a dark background - now that just said class to me as a kid.

Good luck with your water levels hedgepig and check back in with us this eve - I'm sure you won't be held hostage there.

kaz1967 no jinxing it - i'll just say 'break a leg'........we shall refer to it like actors refer to 'that' play Gosh, Kez sounds like she's tucking it away - good girl. I bet she's filled out so much in the short space of time since I saw her.

johnworf there is nothing wrong with 'whilst' if you are foppishly waving a fan, wearing a wig and thinking that rumours of a revolution in France are utter tosh!! Yes, as a newspaper editor once told me "it should be condemmed to the 18th century!"

ipanemagirl NEWS!
Just crossed over to Childbirth and she sends love - and she's just about to call her MW!
Her sister - who's also a MW said to do that - as she's had a leak and it looks like the start.

CAKE - start baking CAKE!

hedgepig · 18/09/2008 14:11

Lemon drizzle it is then I will get ingredients on the way back. Glad she is calling her mw I was getting a bit worried she wasn't going to. Off to the hosp now see you all later

johnworf · 18/09/2008 14:23

oOOh impending birth. *runs around hysterically shouting "hot water! TOWELS! Now!"

Can't stand tinned fruit in any guise no matter how good the pic on the tin is. Although as a child, I do remember fruit cocktails always caused an argument in our house as there were simply not enough cherries to go around 3 children Evap milk in a 5 words devil semen in a tin

Ok, well I'm stuck in the 18th Century and happy there. In fact JJ I sent you a message on Facebook with the wonderful Shakespearian insult generator. Would rather say 'whilst' 'whom' and even 'whence' at a push than use text talk. I mean who cud rite lik dat al da tme? eh???? Makes me wince just typing it. My kids say I write the longest text messages ever as none of it's abbreviated.

Glad you found the article interesting ladies. Just glad I'm not pregnant and just seeing it (if I'd have been considering the test). I would be really confused and worried then (Ok, more so than usual!)

mrsboogie · 18/09/2008 14:38

'ello all

oooohh exciting...ipanemagirl's finally got to the end of her to-do list then!!

I'm with you jw on the old fashioned language - I love it. As a civil servant I always want to write letters full of hereunders and heretofores but we are not allowed to I hate Plain English. Dumbed down English I call it.

johnworf · 18/09/2008 15:25

mrsboogie what about herewith and aforementioned? Love them!!

Word for today whall be hitherto.

Totally agree with you on the dumbing down. It's crept into all aspects of society so now our kids are spoonfed information - no digesting needed (or thinking). It incenses me the type of tv programs that are so prevalent at the moment; strictly morons, Big Bother, The F factor (for failures). We've had the same kind of conversation regarding DSS where teachers have to 'ask' him if he would 'mind' doing something. What happened to 'you child! get it done!' and no arguing. We grew up ok on it. Now we have 8 year olds that suffer from 'stress' and are 'depressed'. The world has gone stark raving.

ladymac · 18/09/2008 15:38

Oh lordy. I didn't really want to read that article. However, being a naturally suspicious person I googled the Buckleys, authors of the original report and read the whole thing. Just so everyone knows, they are against any kind of antenatal testing for Downs (including nuchal testing) as they disagree fundamentally with women terminating a pregnancy if DS is diagnosed. On the positive side, if there is one in all of this, the consultant who is going to perform my test has a m/c rate that is half the national average for CVS.

I had fully intended to have CVS when I was pregnant with Elizabeth. However, after bleeding at 10 weeks I was advised that the threat of m/c was probably too great. Nuchal test put my odds of DS at 290-1 and amnio only recommended for anything under 250-1. I became terrified that amnio would cause me to m/c. Fab consultant did a very thorough scan at 16 weeks instead, looking for any kind of marker, saying if she spotted anything remotely suspect I could have an amnio then and there.

This time round I am 45. Odds for DS at my age are around 25-1 and there is an increased risk of other chromosomal disorders. I feel I need to know if there is anything wrong and with CVS I will get the main results in 3 days. Chances are I will get poor odds if I have a nuchal test and with amnio not being performed until 16 weeks and results taking another 2 weeeks - well, you get where I'm coming from.

Sorry if I'm going on, I just need to talk it through. Very few people in RL know about the pregnancy so you're all getting it in the ear! Will break for cup of tea then come back and chat about more cheery subjects. Thanks for listening. X
