Ooooo, Ooooo, just thought. There's been NO ipanemagirl today............I wonder if there's a pitter patter yet???

johnworf · 16/09/2008 16:01

jeanjeannie no BM left in the fridge. It's all gone. Last supplies ran out 2 weeks ago so not sure why her poo still looks like it's full of breast milk. Very confusing (scratches head).

Just looking at Amazon for a copy of that S**t encyclopaedia. Could come in handy.

Hark! Is that the screams in the distance of ipanemagirl I heareth???

Hope little Iris gets better quick. Poor thing

hedgepig · 16/09/2008 16:28

all this sh..1..t talk is bring back a horrid memory. I was wandering around for a couple of weeks with a slight poo smell, eventually I found the source Ben had had a spell of really pellety poos and one had flicked off when I changed him and landed in the bottom of my hand bag uggggg . JW have you tried one of those disposable liner sheets while her poo is such a sticky consisitency?

Well ipanemagirl's husband will be pleased as he will get his day of work!

Ben has a friend over to play so I am hiding, we have managed a hr so far and no fights - tres brill!

mrsboogie · 16/09/2008 16:55

I bet ipanemagirl hasn't been on because today she is clearing out the attic!! or doing the guttering...

Yep midwife finally turned up at 3pm. Denying all knowledge of having been supposed to be there this morning. First she tells me that as the baby is four days old she will need to come back tomorrow to do the heel prick test. I said no - he's five days old. Nope, says she, its four. When that one was ironed out she went on to commit the ultimate insult. The woman is now dead to me. She was nattering away asking baby's name etc. Then she turns to OH and says to him "and what does mummy call you?" I was like "?" for ten seconds until I realised that she thought he was my 20 yr old son!! she was mortified when I said no this is the child's father. We have met dozens of medical types over the past week and not one of them even too a second look at my OH - they just assumed he was the daddy.

I swear I don't look that old - I have stuck a piccy of me with bubs on here so you can see. Dead to me, she is. Cow.

At least she's not coming back until next Monday now.

ps Hope Iris feels better soon jj

Can't believe I've missed all this sh*t talk today! And cake talk. I've had 2 welsh cakes, buttered of course, and some ginger biscuits this afternoon. Would love a slice of lemon drizzle though.

Had my first scan this morning and got all tearful when I saw a proper baby with a beating heart, albeit one with short little legs. Got a lovely text from DH when he got in to work saying how proud he is of me and how excited he is about number 5 (our original pet name for the bump) and so I got all tearful again. I cry at the drop of a hat, me.

Still in a tizz about having the CVS next week and the closer it gets the less sure I feel about my reasons for having it. Did any of you have CVS? Can't remember if I've asked this already.

My but you're a feisty lot out there. I wouldn't mess with any of you. I reckon the medical profession has a collective quaking in its boots when one of us 40+ mums pushes open the saloon doors of the ante-natal department (searches for tumbleweed emoticon) looking like we could eat a junior doctor for breakfast.

johnworf I too am loving the stripes. Katherine is gorgeous and just doesn't look like a prem baby at all. Elizabeth's drawers are full of all things striped and mine would be too but for my large boobs that tend to make the lines go a bit wiggly.

jeanjeannie · 16/09/2008 17:21

OMG! mrsboogie The woman is an evil, jealous WITCH. You look about 18...seriously woman - you look bloody amazing! at your luscious glossy hair! From here (squints) I reckon you're actually in Casualty. Aren't you that nurse who used to be in Brookside?

hedgepig that's GROSS! Now I'm thinking we should start a 'poo story' thread. I reckon they'd be some in there that'd make it a Mumsnet Classic!

Talking of Poo.....Iris is now making up for having been in bed for 5 hours........the place stinks! Maybe I've been feeding her too much.....CAKE! Nah....never have enough CAKE!

Yes thanks to all who enquired - she's much perkier now - in time for dinner and In the Night Garden

OP posts:
ladymac · 16/09/2008 17:22

MrsB why you're gorgeous!

Personally I would have killed the woman and buried her under the patio. How dare she? I am fuming on your behalf. Stupid bloody cow.

mrsboogie · 16/09/2008 17:40

she is a stupid cow - I mean why would my son be stood around listening to me talk to a midwife about breastfeeding and blood loss and swollen ankles or any of this?

Anyhoo...breathes...

haha hedgepig the poo in the handbag - fab story just ehm glad it happened to someone else.

ladymac I always had a tear sliding out of my eye when I saw the little one on the scan - it all becomes so real and possible and lovely in that second. I'm not even that emotional but the heartbeat flickering away promising things to come always got me. And how lovely that your DP is still as proud as ever and not all blase cos it isn't the first time. I used to call scan days "happy days" and not allow myself to worry about anything because I had seen that all was ok.

johnworf · 16/09/2008 18:02

mrsboogie at least you're mistaken for a MUM. I was mistaken for a GRANNIE in ASDA last week. Anyway, you don't look old enough to be your OH's mum. Oh I so wish that had happened to me. I would have kicked her sorry ass! Take heart from us on the thread mrsb. We know you and we'd tell you what we 'really' thought and I for one think you look in very good nick, far better than myself

hedgepig all I can say is that I bet you're glad you didn't have an open packet of Revels in your bag when that poo was there. Now that would really have been a surprise melt in the mouth moment.

Oh ladymac I'm so jealous that you're seeing your LO on screen for the first time. It's magical and I blubbed when I saw all of mine. Especially katherine as I'd miscarried a year before getting pregnant with her and was convinced I'd lose her as well. How on earth can a grey/black blob with a pulse turn us to jelly though?

I opted out of all pregnancy tests out of personal choice but feel it's very much up to the individual. We had a long debate about this very subject way back on this thread Part 1 but I'm sure that jeanjeannie can help you out as I know she had the tests.

mrsboogie · 16/09/2008 19:23

ladymac apologies I meant to reply to your question about screening tests. I can't remember how far gone you are but have you not considered having the nuchal/bloods done first?

I decided early on that nothing would do me but to have an amnio or cvs. I felt that my age and our personal circumstances (both have to work full time) would absolutely preclude my being able to cope with a baby with Downs |(aside from any other considerations).

When it cam to it I looked into the private screening side of things (I don't rate the NHS blood tests) and felt that it wouldn't hurt to see what results I would get there first. In the end the risks of the child carrying either Downs or Edwards were something like 20,000 to one. Also at some clinics if they can see the nasal bone it can reduce the risk still further. This made it easy for me - there was no question of a need for further diagnostic screening. Obviously I didn't have a guarantee that everything was ok but then you can never have that. I know I was lucky but looking back I'm glad I did it that way. If I had not had such good results I would have gone ahead with the cvs/amnio. As it was I was able to put the worry about those conditions out of my mind.

As jw says it's a personal choice. No right or wrong answers.

mrsboogie · 16/09/2008 19:25

oh and jw I was mistaken for the mum of a 28 year old!! somehow I am not consoled

jeanjeannie · 16/09/2008 19:44

Oh ladymac the scan was today - how fab I shed a tear with mine - just all seems real when you see it (and it's stubby legs) on the screen.

Number 5 - that's nice - all warm and cosy Like a post-office queue..."baby number 5 please"

I had a CVS but i honestly, honestly wouldn't have done if the nuchal scan and bloods had been good. I had them done with Iris and although my odds for 40yrs were around 1:42 to start with they shot to 1:3,200 - so really no point at all in a CVS.

However with Verity it was 1:2 as bad as you can get - so decided to get it done. I took no chances and went to the man who invented it - Prof Nicholidies (sp) and the procedure was so quick and easy. But it was the waiting for results - 3 days of utter hell. Obviously the outcome was fine

Could you not wait and see what the nuchal scan and bloods bring about?

Oh great - Iris is now running about like a mad thing from mad-land. Great that she's better - bad that it's nearly 8pm and no signs of going to bed!

Oooer, that johnworf comment about mistaking the poo for a Revel has made me PMSL and feel sick at the same time! Cheers....just before my dinner too.......

Kaz1967 · 16/09/2008 20:01

ladymac you could be right about the medical profession quaking when it comes to us over 40's we tend not to put up with shit add to that an over 40 who worked not only as a nurse but as a neonatal nurse and asks why and the reasoning and statics behind everything and that really gets to them and then says no and they almost shake LOL the poor paeds that looked after Kez in hospital got growled at when they were taking blood I even had to show one of the SHO's how to take the spot test they do at 6-7 days as she had never done one before. Like JW I had waited 16 years for Kez I opted out of every test from the triple which I felt would not give me a yes or no and would only make me worry and certainly anything that would risk a miscarriage but we are all different with differing needs you have to do what is right for you. All I can say is talk to your partner about how you are feeling and remember once it is booked you can change you mind and not have it if you do not feel it is right for you even when you arrive to have it done and are sitting there with them ready to do it.

Jean Poor Iris (and you no fun having a sick child) hope she is back to her delightful self soon.

mrsboogie the midwife needs glasses you go not look over 40 at all would have put you closer to 30 and totally gorgeous she was probably just jealous you have a toyboy.

hedgepig this is my birth plan created it using the blooming birth book and website I had offered the book to someone (cant remember who was it you? have no brain since Kez) but they did not email me

hedgepig · 16/09/2008 20:04

Yes - thank you Johnworf for the revel comment I feel most queasy now. Must find some Cake to take away the thought.

MrsB what a bag the mw is, I'm with the others you look really young and glamtastic.

ladymac I had a nucal scan combined with PAPA (?) blood test and the triple test I was happy with the result. Also the Dr could see a nasal bone on the nucal scan. If the results had been bad I would have gone for further testing but I was happy not to have further testing. I haven't worried about it since. As the others say you have to decide what you need to know for you and your family.

JJ I'm very please young Iris is feeling better and I like the idea of a poo thread. Before I had children my BF warned me we would be chatting about poo as soon as the baby was born. Being rather reserved I looked at her as if she was insane, how wrong I was

hedgepig · 16/09/2008 20:17

KAZ thank you for the link to your birth plan it is just the right tone I am looking for (Some of these American ones are really aggressive (is the only way to describe them). It wasn't me that you offered the book to, but I will have a look at the web site, I need to get this finished today or tomorrow as I need to email it back to the hosp to go through their procedures, so probably not time to post it (but thank any way).
How are you feeling? and how is the lovely Kez??

johnworf · 16/09/2008 20:40

Not sure where you are ladymac date wise, but nuchal with bloods and nasal bone is up to 1 day before 13 weeks (think this is correct cos I looked into it but was a while ago so confirmation from anyone?). Can't be done after this for some complicated scientific reason which eludes me. This was the only test I considered as it's non invasive (almost) yet it doesn't really give you a yay or a nay like say amnio does.

My personal reasons for not having the amnio were mainly miscarriage but I was also prepared to accept whatever nature gave me.

Although it's late in the day, the 21 week scan does give an indication of some anomalies such as Down's although the official line is it's not 100%. My sonographer told me that a good sonographer can tell from soft markers such as the chin and also they're looking for heart defects. My hospitals policy was also that if they found anomalies they were instructed to inform and so to avoid 21 weeks scan if not happy with this. However, as I said, it's very late in the day to do anything about this one and when I think that my LO was born only 3 weeks after this

On a lighter note...glad the revel comment made you cringe. Actually, I know someone who did eat a baby poo pellet thinking it was a malteser. It was a man and he was sat in the dark half drunk...so he deserved it.

Hey Kaz! Was wondering where you were. Any news on the house hunting?

mrsboogie · 16/09/2008 21:09

kaz apologies - it was me you kindly offered the book to but it was just at the same time I got told about the GD and that kind of put everything else out of my head. I don't know if your book contains anything about being induced but I am glad I didn't know any more than I did abut this business or I wouldn't have gone ahead with it!!

FloriaTosca · 17/09/2008 10:13

Hi Honeys I'm Home!!!!!!!

Not had a chance to read through and catch up yet just going to copy and paste what I've told the girls on my postnatal thread and go and catch up...goodness but you lot have been chatty!

Cornwall was lovely..the log cabin we rented was gorgeous, idyllic village setting, equipped with everything you could want, lovely stream running through the bottom of the garden (though could have done with more sound proofing...I slept worse than ever waiting for Alex to wake so he didnt disturb my Mum and brother in the bedrooms downstairs)and the weather wasn't so bad that we couldn't enjoy good days out and fabulous food(5 mins from Padstow and just landed fish). Alex however now thinks his name is Alex,no! ... fortunately the house was equipped with a stair gate as, living in a bungalow, Alex hasnt had much experience of stairs, the frightening thing is that he wont let us teach him to crawl down again, he wants to turn round and step down like an adult! And he looks like a battered child because the house had a slate chimney breast with razor sharp corners which he wouldnt stay away from, and he has started trying to spin on the spot, turning his head suddenly and trying to get his body to follow just as fast..needless to say he is covered in cuts and bruises. Dh and bro swear Alex repeated "cheeky peacock" when I was trying to chase the sandwich snatcher away and he has developed a taste for the dregs of cider his Dad and uncle hadnt tidied away...oh, and he sadly thinks sand is ediblerequiring lashings of sudocreme to sooth the opposite end as it exited his system... and he has got his 3rd tooth!!!

I've got a lot of washing etc still to do but hope to be back later ....

johnworf · 17/09/2008 11:07

LOL @ FlorigaTosca. Other than Alex most probably getting a visit from social services, sounds like a good time was had by all.

Glad you had a better (and longer) time in Cornwall than we did.

I'm also back. From the dentist. What a pleasant experience that wasn't On the up side, it's free. Can't really grumble as I'm having everything they'll offer me and be grateful.

mrsboogie · 17/09/2008 13:13

welcome back Floriatosca - it does sound as if a good time was had by.. Alex!!

oooh jw how long does the free treatment go on for? I thought I'd missed that boat as I couldn't face the dentist during pregnancy.

jeanjeannie · 17/09/2008 13:22

floriatosca glad you had a lovely time and that young AlexNo! enjoyed himself! Sand...Mmmm, I remember Iris having dermabrasion of the bum when we were in Norfolk.

LOL@ finishing off the dregs of cider....good lad...he'll be buying rounds soon.

johnworf oh I've got to go to the dentist. I go to a mate of mine in London and even though I get mates-rates it's still gonna hurt

Friend of mine went to a 'celebrity tooth-fixer' and has had such a bad job done that she's sueing him! She's about...wait for it......11 grand out of pocket and now is having to pay to have it put right. She wrote about it the other week in a national paper and surprise, surprise...she's not the only unhappy one. Even without naming him the phone calls to the paper came flooding in...!

Off to the shops...yip de do!

OP posts:
johnworf · 17/09/2008 13:50

mrsboogie you should get free dentist for until your LO is 1 year old. Or, the date on your maternity exemption card (the one you flash in the chemist to get free 'scripts).

jeanjeannie I would never go to a private dentist nor have celeb smile installed. Stories like yours just reinforce my belief that it's a waste of time/money. As long as your teeth are in good nick, your breath doesn't stink and your tongue isn't too furry, leave well alone. I had a rather splendid filling and a root canal filling in preparation for my new gold crown. I've already got a couple of gold uns so hopefully I won't start looking like fiddy cents mum I'll have to pimp my pram if I do..........

Anyway, we have a man coming tomorrow to talk about moving our mortgage. I hate these kind of wolf in salesman's clothing type. They're on commission and that's the bottom line. I know, I used to work in financial services....I feel an awkward chat coming on - just to put him through his paces Look, I have to get my thrills where I can!

Waiting for car to come home; it's having it's MOT. I have a very important appointment in Mothercare as K needs some socks

johnworf · 17/09/2008 13:52

House is full of fecking fruit flies. Prime suspect is compost tub in kitchen. Any suggestions of how to get rid of the f**kers?

jeanjeannie · 17/09/2008 17:07

SNAP! Blinkin kitchen is full of fruit flies......nasty, pesky things and it's our compost tub too

No suggestions - apart from a huge, fruit-smelling sheet of sticky paper....!

We've cut short our trip into town to find some long-sleeved vests for Verity - the two of them were having a shouting competition and I couldn't hack it

Oh wind up the money man - go on - poor bloke is probably scared witless about the markets anyway - you'll just finish him off
DP enjoys a good debate with the Jehovah Witness people.....OOoo, he does like a religious tussle! Usually I end up hearing something along the lines of 'I'm a man who likes science - proof man, give me proof'...
