I had 18months between mine. But recently had a scare and my baby is only still a baby!
But i guess it must happen to some people, do they go ahead and how do they cope?

i have a 3.5yr between first and second, then third came along five years after baby number 2 was five, i have baby number four on the way which means i will have a 12yr between the baby and the first born, so help me i must be mad

izzybiz · 04/08/2008 11:47

11 years between my 1st and 2nd, and my 2nd will be 4.4 when Dc 3 arrives.

honeydew · 04/08/2008 12:04

I've had three in 3 years (and 2 months). It's nice for each other that they are close in age and you get all the sleepless nights, nappies and potty training out of the way. DD4, DS3 and DD 16 months. It's very hard work though and leaves almost no time for anything else. If I had my time again, I would leave a larger age gap as the last few years have been exhausting.

Elmosgirl · 04/08/2008 12:05

18 months between mine.

Jackstini · 04/08/2008 12:13

Will be 2.8.
Wanted about 20-24 months but things don't always work out that way!

hollyhobbie · 04/08/2008 12:21

DD was 2yrs minus 16 days when DS was born.
In retrospect I'd say 2 years was the WORST age gap possible. We're coming out of the other side now, but that first year was HARD.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 04/08/2008 12:29

DH & I have been discussing ttc our second baby.
We're planning on ttc @ Xmas, so even if I go pg right away, DD would be nearly four when they arrived.
Factor in several months as I'm coming off the mini pill which can stay in the system for "ages" (though nobody wants to give me a time line!) and she could be reaching 5!
I could come off the pill earlier but eeekkkkk, I might get pg right away!

frazzledbutcalm · 04/08/2008 13:13

dc1 - dc2 - 5yrs 11 mths
dc2 - dc3 - 3 yrs 11 mths
dc3 dc4 - 21 mths

Think you cope no matter the age difference, simple fact is, you have to!!
I found all differences pretty much the same tbh. Biggest problem was prob the biggest age gap - when it came to play things, dc1 was sometimes too old for dc2 activities and vice versa.
elf - according to gp, all pills stop working imm after you stop taking them, thats how you can get pg if you just miss 1 pill. sil took almost a year to conceive her 1st, she came off pill early to conceive 2nd and fell pg 1st time!

VinegarTits · 04/08/2008 13:33

I waited 17 yrs before having ds2

thequietone · 04/08/2008 13:34

3 years between my two. We wanted it to be a smaller gap but, hey ho, we find it hard to get pregnant. It's worked out perfectly though, as DS1 is old enough to not be very jealous, and dealt with it brilliantly.

sallystrawberry: do you mind me asking their ages please, and do you have a problem finding activities that they will both enjoy?

Ds is 6 and very into boys things just now... football, running, Ben 10 and has no time for girls!!!
Dd is only 11 months and although he clearly adores her he finds her "boring"!!

Am i in for years of arguments over what to do or where we go?

Sorry......... don't mean to pinch the thread, just curious.

marymungoandmidge · 04/08/2008 14:28

almost 13 months between mine - DS was 5 months old when I found out I was pg for the second time! Challenge at first but they get along wonderfully and are already good company for each other... (DS 2 now and DD almost 1).

MummyAnnabella · 04/08/2008 14:53

will be 14 months if no2 arrives on schedule! no1 was 2 months early so could be 12 months between!

i was broody from ds was 3 months old and also ds took 1 year to conceive so i expected to wait a while again. imagine if i had got pg when ds 3 months old - now i think "what was i thinking???!!!"

do like the idea of them being close in age and also just getting all the night feeding, nappies etc done in one big go as it were.

interesting though that people here with small gaps arent excactly recommending it!!

FruitynNutty · 04/08/2008 15:03

If I'd had a choice DS would have been nearly 3 but my rubbish body made me wait. Thankfully, I'm finally pregnant so DS will be nearly 4

CaptainKarvol · 04/08/2008 15:10

I was aiming for 2 years, if all goes well with my pregnancy it will be 3 years, almost to the week.

caykon · 04/08/2008 15:48

There is exactly 12months ad 2 weeks between my two

Josie57 · 04/08/2008 16:00

Fleecy - I can beat you, I've just had my second (22 months gap) but I am broody for no 3 and my dd is only 6 weeks old .

MrsBoo · 04/08/2008 16:07

4 years and one week between my two - ideal for me, I couldn't have handled any less of a gap

colacubes · 04/08/2008 16:07

ds was 10, when dd was born, was like being a new mum all over again, trying to figure out which end to put nappy on!

Flossyjim · 04/08/2008 17:16

18 month gap between DS1 and DS2. I did actually get pregnant again when DS1 was only 4 months! Suffered a miscarriage (which wasn't so bad really!) then conceived DS2 extremely easily. I'm really glad we had them so close together, and both being boys, they are the best of friends. Now 5 and 3.5.

DanJARMouse · 04/08/2008 17:17

15mnths between DD1 and DD2

2yrs 1mnth between DD2 and DS

No more for me though.

Flossyjim · 04/08/2008 17:19

Forgot to mention, it wasn't so hard coping with the small age gap whatsoever. In fact, it's probably easier that way.

lou33 · 04/08/2008 17:19

4yrs 8m between dd1 and dd2
23m between dd2 and ds1
27m between ds1 and ds2

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 04/08/2008 18:43

frazzledbutcalm - I thought it was immediate after coming off the pill (being able to get pregnant) but I'm on cezarette which I have been told can take ages to come out of the system? I'm not sure if it is true - knowing my luck, I'd get pg first time if I came off early, but if I wait until I want to get pg, it will take me ages!!
