Wow Issymum, it all sounds incredibly exciting and no doubt fraught with worry also. Scabies I know nothing about but I can only imagne how poor little Pixie must feel. The standard of care sounds impressive I must say but it must be hard to leave all the same..........now you have the flight to deal with

Still no news from Bekki............OOOOOOHHHHHH it's all so exciting.

Bekki · 03/09/2003 20:59

I have been in labour now for 17? hours and now contractions are 5 mins apart. They shifted quickly from 15 mins to 5 and so we rushed to midwife unit. only to be told after an hours wait that cervix was no where near dilated enough to be admitted. Argghhh!

The contractions are very painful and so frequent that theres no chance of me getting any sleep tonight. All the toing and froing has really upset my ds. It just seems incredible that contractions can be so close together yet be so ineffective. The midwife even suggested that labour might stop completely and I could still have two days to wait. Two days in this much pain, I don't think so!

On the up side I've gone into labour naturally! I'm having contractions that I have produced myself (even if they are useless). And thankgod, finally the head has engaged, I should have realised when the pain subsided slightly on my ligament the other day.

I have no idea what to do with myself or ds. He has his first day at playgroup tomorrow and I have a midwifes appointment in the afternoon. Are these appointments that will be kept or will I be admitted tonight? I feel like I'm teetering on two realities. I need to soften cervix, can I stomach sex? Has anyone else had sex during contractions? Oh no its too awful to contemplate. Its very exciting though I hope you all are doing well.

ANGELMOTHER · 03/09/2003 21:07

Oh Bekki my thoughts are with you and the distress caused to your ds can't be helping but you have to RELAX.
Have a bath with some lavender oil and take some bachs recue remedy ........unfortunately what will be will be and if at all possible let your ds go to playgroup tomorrow, better for him to be occupied than unsure what is happening to Mummy.
Will your midwife visit you at home instead ?
At least you know things are happening
Keep the faith girl

Good idea about midwife visiting me I mean I can't really walk into town in labour its ridiculous. I'm not sure about the playgroup situation I'll play it by ear.

I'm going to have a baby!!!!

ANGELMOTHER · 03/09/2003 21:29

This is getting quite exciting

Fingers crossed there should be a September baby by the morning.

We'll all be thinking of you on our toilet trips during the night Bekki.

Ragtaggle · 04/09/2003 08:01

Bekki - I'm sure you are too tired to write but when you read this do write and let us know how the birth went. Am absolutely dying to hear your story.

Oakmaiden · 04/09/2003 12:55

Well, an eventful few hours for me - or, um, not as the case may be! Last night I had a bit of a "pop" and lost a fair amount of fluid (I'm 34+4 today). But since it seemed to be "pop" "gush" and not much else I decided to leave worrying about it until the morning. So having dropped ds off for his first day in his new class, I phoned my midwife, and we decided to go into the Antenatal Day Assessment unit so someone could do a "quick speculum" and see what was happening. Which happily is nothing. My midwife suspects that it may have been a small amniotic fluid leak, which then healed itself (as can occasionally happen). Certainly nothing to see now. Which is good - but managed to mostly fill my first day of being childfree with things that weren't on my "to do" list.

wiltshire · 04/09/2003 14:29

Bekki, hope to hear from you soon. Good luck. Oaky, glad it was nothing serious. Well my news is that I have just returned from a visit with consultant who informed me that my baby will be born on 26 Sept by C/s. Apparently baby is huge and pelvis ain't big enough. He also said that due to my age (34) and it being first one c/s is better. So I am very very excited now. a)being told I have a small snatch was quite flattering and b) I have a date - 3 weeks. Yee hah, bet this time goes ever so slowly.

EmmaTMG · 04/09/2003 15:54

wiltshire at your small snatch comment. As you all know this is no.3 for me so the same couldn't be said here!

ANGELMOTHER · 04/09/2003 17:02

Looking forward to some news off Bekki, funny but after Emma's comment I was up for the loo at 4am and first thing I thought of was Bekki . Wiltshire lol at "small snatch"

My midwife brought over my "pack" this morning and checked me over, all excited to find baby is fully engaged and ready to go. I'm only 37+1 but am SURE things will happen sooner rather than later. I am also nesting like a lunatic, I always know when I start cleaning the kitchen cupboards that things aren't far off !!!!!

Oakmaiden that must have been a bit of a shock, glad it's nothing serious.

Issymum, I've just clicked who you are! I'd love to get in touch with you, but I know you have moved (as have I) and I don't have any of your details now. It is your curly headed ex-colleague here - fellow slave under the lunatic La D. Now living in the west country (but not L.A you'll be pleased to hear) with third baby due... 5 days ago. Would be really great to catch up, I'm delighted about Pixie and hope C and I are very well..
please do get in touch, it would be great to hear from you. Love, MSHC

Bekki · 04/09/2003 22:08

I've done it, too tired now to talk anymore but will again soon. Good luck Oaky! Thanks for everyones thoughts

wiltshire · 05/09/2003 08:09

Congratulations Bekki. Can't wait to hear all about it. Hope you are both well.

Bekki · 05/09/2003 14:36

I'm excited for everyone else now. After spending ages obsessing about whether I could be ready to pop, heres a few things which I realise were definate signs-

.no engagement whatsoever but a heaviness and pain in my pelvis that felt like my body was giving up.
.mood swings, I was very down in the last few days.
.baby completely changed his movements, from hardly any to constant kicking and squirming.
.needing to eat constantly, I just couldn't stop in the last three days.
.restlessness.
.you just sort of know.

Signs of labour approaching-
.pooing all the time.
.feeling tense and anxious.
.a show, again.
.lots of Braxton Hicks.
.having a serious look at your hosptal bag for the first time, I mean really seriously, checking every little item is in there.

So incase anyone thinks that it may be imminent you are probably right. Check it against my list and we can compare later.

So Angelmother your baby is engaged do you have any other signs yet?

Oakmaiden, that would really have scared me, waters breaking spontaneously. That has never happened to me, my waters had to be broken for me as it slowed everything right down.

It must be nice having a date to look forward to Wiltshire. Did you want a section?

Can I just announce my jubilation at only having to go to the toilet once last night!

motherinferior · 05/09/2003 20:31

SamACon, v interested to hear about the birthing centre - a friend of mine who edits a midwifery mag had a tour and said it was fab. I'm thinking of writing a piece on birthing centres when I'm back from maternity leave in November (I'm a journalist) and was fascinated...dying to hear what it's actually like, it sounded like giving birth in the Sanctuary and was the only thing to give me a twinge of regret about my own home birth in June!

Keep up the Buffy in the meantime

wiltshire · 05/09/2003 20:57

sorry bekki, I am assuming you have had your baby, you haven't said what it is, weighed or name. Have I missed something which is going to make me look really dopey. I don't have any preference to c/section or natural birth, whatever will be best for the baby really.

wiltshire · 05/09/2003 20:59

sorry bekki, just read birth announcements, still getting used to the fact that there are other discussions!!!

samACon · 07/09/2003 23:17

Motherinferior, I'll let you know what its like, but I'll definitely be the last on this thread! Both my DS's were late, so I probably should have posted on the 'due in november' rather than this one. Still, you never know!

I would have liked a home birth, but I live in a v. small flat and it just wouldn't be relaxed or calm. Also DH said it looks like a car accident after I give birth ( I do like to keep active) so we'll let someone else worry about the laundry!

Getting my Angel fix watching the new Dido video.

Congrats Bekki!!
