I’m exactly 3 weeks post birth- had a natural labour and then had to have an emergency c-section right at the end. Been needing sex the last few days (does that mean ovulation has returned?). Not breastfeeding (formula feeding) and wanting to have another baby as soon as possible. Have had unprotected sex this morning for the first time. I did start birth control (noriday) on Thursday last week, taken Thursday, Friday stopped Saturday started Sunday and stopped since then. Not planning on starting it again and want to see what happens. Am I crazy for wanting to get pregnant again ?? I want my children close in age.

I felt really broody when my youngest was this age. Must be the hormones!

RiaOverTheRainbow · 05/10/2026 20:05

I think the usual advice is to give your body twelve months to recover before ttc again.

MeerkatEyes · 05/10/2026 20:06

You’re crazy for having sex so soon. There’s a reason why they tell you wait 6 weeks. Medical advice is also to wait 18 months after a section to TTC.

CaffeinatedMum · 05/10/2026 20:06

It’s the hormones….. ignore them. You might think you want a close age gap but honestly you have no idea yet what it’s like having one child, let alone two, let alone two under one! Plus you really do need to let your body recover from pregnancy and especially because you had a c section. Getting pregnant again so soon could be very risky for you. There is no rush. Enjoy your baby.

SpookyHalloweenDeviledEggs · 05/10/2026 20:06

Respectfully are you absolutely insane? Google the health risks of sex before six weeks. Your in the fresh out the packet honeymoon stage at the moment. Let your little one be your baby for a while. Unless there are fertility reasons why you might want to try sooner which might change my opinion slightly but absolutely no.

Jaxinabox · 05/10/2026 20:06

You’ve just had a c-section! I think you need to take a moment. It’s hormones. Wait. Your body will thank you.

Waitingfordoggo · 05/10/2026 20:07

It’s inadvisable. Your body needs time to recover from pregnancy and birth.

I mean I’ve just Googled it and ‘significant health risks’ was the takeaway phrase. Lots of those risks are for you but some for the new baby too- premature birth and low birth weight for example.

I’m sure you’ll do whatever you like, but I think it would be a ludicrous thing to do.

SandyY2K · 05/10/2026 20:07

You shouldn't be having another one so soon after a C section. Your body needs to heal... be sensible.

In addition, how much attention can you give to the one you've just had, if you have a newborn so quickly.

plutopuff · 05/10/2026 20:08

You can't get pregnant that close to having a c section, the risk of rupturing your uterus is too high.

My first two are 16 months apart and I love the age gap, but what you're suggesting is actually quite dangerous.

Bitzee · 05/10/2026 20:08

It would be really risky to get pregnant again so soon after a c section. You still have a massive internal wound. And they’re really serious risks like uterine rupture, placenta problems, pre term delivery etc. I’d get emergency contraception first thing tomorrow then talk to your midwife but usual advice is to wait a year, with a pregnancy before 6 months carrying the biggest level of risk.

MauriceTheMussel · 05/10/2026 20:09

Horrifically selfish thing to do

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/10/2026 20:12

It’s dangerous to get pregnant again so soon after a c section, it would be selfish too, you’ve not even enjoyed this baby yet. Enjoy your baby and let the hormones calm down, it’s probably all the post partum hormones meeting the birth control so hopefully the urge will settle soon. Until then, use common sense and stay on birth control! Congrats on the baby

Gotthattee · 05/10/2026 20:13

Impressed at managing sex 3 weeks post section, though wincing at the idea of jizz in the dinner plate sized wound in your womb.

Seriously though theres a reason breastfeeding naturally spaces out pregnancies. Bodies and babies need time.

SaveMeFromMyBoobs · 05/10/2026 20:14

Extremely dangerous post C section. Particularly with danger of rupture or implanting in a non-healed scar. Its dangerous for your life, the baby and your future prospects of having more children if you need an emergency hysterectomy to save your life if you have complications.

Just wait a few months.

W0tnow · 05/10/2026 20:14

Give it 6 months. Mine are 18 months apart.

ScotiaLass · 05/10/2026 20:15

I know someone who had a vaginal delivery and got pregnant a couple of weeks later. She fell pregnant with twins and spent most of her pregnancy on bed rest because her pelvic floor hadn't recovered enough to cope. I can't imagine that would go any better after an emergency c-section. There's also the risk of infection because you've got a huge internal wound where the placenta was attached. Just enjoy your newborn and give yourself time to heal please.

littlemissalwaystired · 05/10/2026 20:18

The risk of infection with sex that soon postnatally is really high, even with a c-section as you still have the wound left behind by the placenta. Advice is to wait 18 months before TTC again and that’s for a really good reason, your scar makes your uterus weaker and at a higher risk of rupture. Finally, as someone with an almost 10 month old, WHY would you want a newborn and 10 month old at the same time😅absolutely notttttt

Dryshampoofordays · 05/10/2026 20:22

You still have a large wound healing in your uterus where the placenta detached from. No more sex until 6 weeks postpartum. It’s not worth the infection risk.

TheLadyOfWinterfell · 05/10/2026 20:23

I had a c section 12 weeks ago and wasnt told to avoid sex for any particular length of time. In fact, the midwife who did our 14 day check told me if I needed contraception before the 6 week GP check then I should contact them.

It is utterly stupid to be TTC though. Your body needs time to heal after the major abdominal surgery you’ve just had!!

Anyahyacinth · 05/10/2026 20:24

Was warned about sudden death from air embolism before healing too (super rare but why risk it?)

seahorsessky · 05/10/2026 20:26

Don't they say give it as much time as possible, especially if you have CS. Friend was told at least a year.
Even after natural birth, the mw said to me your body needs time to recover. You're likely to be depleted, and even if you don't bf it's better to wait. Some people don't though, she said.

user1476613140 · 05/10/2026 20:26

If you're gagging for it use a bullet vibrator! Seriously though wait this out until you are fully healed. CSection is major abdominal surgery. You need to recover first.

Jellybunny98 · 05/10/2026 20:27

Please take emergency contraception OP and do not TTC. 3 weeks post emergency section if you did fall pregnant could rupture your very new scar which could well mean no next baby, ever, plus placenta attachment issues with such a small gap post section increases the chances of miscarriage or other issues. Don’t do it, if you want another child at some point.

RandomMess · 05/10/2026 20:28

I had a natural birth and 14 month between 2nd & 3rd, after a c-section you definitely need a bigger gap as it’s major surgery and there really are so many risks associated with a subsequent pregnancy.

Give yourself 4 months to recover !!!!!! I think 6 ideally but you need to heal. 18 month gap here . I remember being broody weeks after birth ! But it’s hard having a baby and a toddler xxx

edited to say birth were c sections .
