I’m exactly 3 weeks post birth- had a natural labour and then had to have an emergency c-section right at the end. Been needing sex the last few days (does that mean ovulation has returned?). Not breastfeeding (formula feeding) and wanting to have another baby as soon as possible. Have had unprotected sex this morning for the first time. I did start birth control (noriday) on Thursday last week, taken Thursday, Friday stopped Saturday started Sunday and stopped since then. Not planning on starting it again and want to see what happens. Am I crazy for wanting to get pregnant again ?? I want my children close in age.

Yep, crazy.

seriously, you need time to recover. Pregnancy and birth is a big strain on the body.

Iocanepowder · 05/10/2026 20:46

Fucking hell have some respect for your body

littlbrowndog · 05/10/2026 20:51

Made up post. No one who has had a section is having sex so soon.

just nonsense stuff

FieryA · 05/10/2026 21:00

What is wrong with you? You have just had a baby- aren't you concerned about that newborn? Instead you are thinking about some nonsense age gap. Bond with your baby and give it the love and affection it needs. Enjoy these precious moments. Don't put your health at risk for something unreasonable.

Pinkissmart · 05/10/2026 22:16

I’m staggered that your partner would do this. Clearly your hormones are all over the place, but why tf couldn’t he have some restraint

Figgygal · 05/10/2026 22:18

This can't be real as it's ridiculously stupid and dangerous

Gengha · 05/10/2026 22:21

There’s close in age and close in age! Give your body a chance to recover and enjoy the baby you have

Gengha · 05/10/2026 22:22

Also I FF my 2 babies and even so it was several months before my periods returned

Impressed at managing sex 3 weeks post section, though wincing at the idea of jizz in the dinner plate sized wound in your womb.

Seriously though theres a reason breastfeeding naturally spaces out pregnancies. Bodies and babies need time.

And a reason in lots of cultures it's seen as impure to touch a woman after birth (look up churching which was normal here until the 50s) or there is a very set lying in period after birth.

In addition, how much attention can you give to the one you've just had, if you have a newborn so quickly.

This. You have a baby op, stop looking down the line

I agree. Wondering if this is some gross fetish post by a man

CarbonArtist · 05/10/2026 22:31

It’s a great idea if you want to maximise your chances of uterine rupture, or if you like the idea of delivering a preterm or growth-restricted baby.

raisinglittlepeople12 · 05/10/2026 22:32

Your baby deserves your undivided attention for at least a year, it’s best for their development, but also your body needs to heal or you could risk miscarriages etc.

Savoretti · 05/10/2026 22:35

Ok i believe you. Of course

HiCandles · 05/10/2026 22:35

Apart from the health risks, which others have concerned, I feel desperately sorry for your baby. Only here a few weeks and already mum is bored of the novelty. Put your love and attention on your baby for now. I say this as the mother of children born intentionally 20 months apart, so I do understand the desire for 2 siblings to close in age, but I also see the impact me being pregnant and lugging a newborn around had on my eldest. Still does, and vice versa. Each of them both loses and gains something compared to being an only, I think.

ThisUmberSwan · 05/10/2026 22:37

It’s 100000% the hormones I felt like this too and it soon passed. I didn’t have sex at the 3 week mark and have a 4 years and 10 months gap between my children

this!! I wanted my baby to be a baby for longer I wanted to devote my entire being and time to one child and let them be a baby/toddler for as long as possible.

Babyboomtastic · 05/10/2026 22:39

I could have been you. Heck, I was you.

Planned section. Back to having sex at day 10,(14 for my second ), cleared by midwife first and following NHS advice that you don't have to wait for 6 weeks, and it's safe to have sex when you felt ready. Frankly I was ready on day 5 but I wanted to check with the midwives first. Lochia had long gone by day 10 or I'd have waited. Recovery was pretty much painless for me though.

At about 2-3 weeks in I suggested that we start TTC at the 3 months mark. Husband wanted to wait a bit so we did. I absolutely loved having a newborn, found it much easier than I expected, and knew that I'd likely suffer badly with SPD from the first trimester, so I wanted to be pregnant before I'd have to chase a baby when I couldn't walk!

By six months postpartum, aside from the SPD issue, I was glad we waited. Both of my children have never been easier than in their first few months. It was later that their sleep declined, sleep deprivation properly hit, and toddlers although lovely were so much harder work.

I got pregnant after a year so I've had 2u2, but not a tiny gap.

Medical stuff aside, thinking about trying to conceive a second when you're in the newborn period is like signing up to another marathon when you've only done 100m run.

Give it some time. You'll also find those happy hormones will calm down a little bit, and that you think of the bigger picture, rather than a cuddly newborn potato stage

🤮

SarahAndQuack · 05/10/2026 22:42

I admit, the phrasing of 'been needing sex' makes my spidey sense kick in, because it sounds to me like something a man would imagine a woman would say or think.

But ... there is a real hormonal drive just after you have a baby. And if no one told you the risks, you might think it was a good idea. How would you know? Lots of people feel just fine, and most of us will know someone who had babies with a very close gap, because it does happen.

I think even if the OP is a troll, it's not necessary to act as if the very idea of TTC another child is stupid and/or selfish.

Horses7 · 05/10/2026 22:43

Yes you’re crazy - to quote Meagain Markle ‘you’ve got baby brain’ - be sensible and wait.

TallSturdyGirls · 05/10/2026 22:44

Either you are a man, or you are a bit post partum poorly.

It's quite common after sections because there's no vaginal damage. Recovery can be very quick and near painless is you get lucky (which I did thankfully)

Well, but also ... I had a second-degree tear and it was horrible for about ten days, and then it was rapidly ok. I'm 3 months postpartum and I must get someone to check it's healed ok, but it's not painful. I'm a single mum so sex wasn't on the cards, but I think if no one had told me not to, it wouldn't have occurred to me it'd be a totally stupid idea. I just wouldn't personally have fancied it at 3 weeks. But at 6 weeks, yes, probably I'd have assumed it was all fine.

Imisscoffee2021 · 05/10/2026 22:54

My sister was pregnant 3 months post partum, it was so hard for her having a 1 yr old and newborn. It's lovely now they're 3 and 4 and play together but I'd say she and her husband survived the baby years not thrived during them. Her second pregnancy she felt very sick throughout too so felt she couldn't give her first the attention he needed too.

Biologically it's best to allow womb to heal, let alone after a section. I had a section so know the recovery. Enjoy your current child, all the beautiful milestones to come. You will have bursts of wanting another throughout the first year.
