I dont have a particularly close relationship with my mil. I dont also feel like I want to do much to get too close. Although she is nice and wonderful to my kids and sees me as her own daughter. I always had a superficial rel to her. Please try to read my previous threads to het a better understanding of me to get full picture.
i fell pregant two years ago and told her, I later dound out feom my SILs that she had told them. It came out and she at first said that in her defence, she had told them I think I might be pregnant, not that it was a certainty. She then later did apologise to me personally while in the kirchen. My husbnad had told her that it was not her place. I am still fuming at times now. My colleague told he mer mil did this and it just brought up old anger and resentment. Please help me to still maintain a decent relationship with her. She is generally lovely.

This was two years ago? Let it go!

Sirzy · 10/08/2026 10:34

It was 2 years ago. She has apologised. Nothing bad happened. You need to find a way to but it behind you for everyone’s sake.

people make mistakes. When people are excited they sometimes say things they shouldn’t.

MustardGlass · 10/08/2026 10:34

You are being unreasonable.

ACR7 · 10/08/2026 10:36

I don’t think it’s that big a deal to be holding on to for 2yrs. She was probably really excited. She should have kept the secret but I doubt it was malicious. I just can’t imagine still being bothered after the apology

Naurrr · 10/08/2026 10:37

You haven't said what the problem was? See her less if you don't like her, her son and grandkids can see her all they want.

AplineDaisies · 10/08/2026 10:38

Did you give birth- have you had your baby?
Did you ask MIL not to tell anyone?
I'm guessing she was v excited, otherwise.

My cousin's mum (my aunt) did this- she told us all about the expectant baby. Cousin was livid but I didn't think it a big deal. His daughter is an absolute treasure. The annoyance eventually passed.

LadyTable · 10/08/2026 10:39

I'm not digging out your previous threads that you haven't bothered linking to.

But it's unnecessary anyway as this happened two years ago.

It can't be undone so the choice is either let it go or spend the rest of your life being annoyed about it.

Jaxinabox · 10/08/2026 10:40

You are creating a problem. Maybe think about why you’re trying to look for things to dislike your MIL about.
Firstly she told her daughters, hardly crime of the century. But if you were disappointed that’s fine. She then apologised which presumably you accepted. Now two years on you’re making it an issue again? It’s a you problem.

Unblushingly · 10/08/2026 10:42

Respectfully, OP, you sound quite entitled. No one is going to poke around on Mn looking for your old threads. If you want people to consider them, link them.

It's not clear what the problem is here. If you tell one person you are pregnant, assume it will get out. If you want to keep it a secret, don't tell anyone other than your midwife and the father.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 10/08/2026 10:45

2 years ago, get over it! Move on with your life and recognise that you are now the problem for still holding onto this. She made a mistake, she apologised, it was incredibly minor in the first place.

ThisDreamyExpert · 10/08/2026 10:45

Thank you, I see I might ve unreasonable here.

Actually, out of curiosity I did dig out your previous threads.

You didn't bother returning to the majority of them and you've been told repeatedly that your 'problems' with your MIL are quite petty.

Hawksparrow · 10/08/2026 10:47

You have issues if you’re still struggling with this OP. Could you see a counsellor to talk through your feelings? Still being angry about this isn’t healthy or helpful for you and your family.

I wouldn’t have considered her telling her daughters a particularly big deal anyway tbh, sorry OP. Did you make a point of asking her not to tell anyone?

youalright · 10/08/2026 10:47

Are you close to her daughters did you see them regularly as it is kind of the job of others to share the news with extended family you don't have much dealings with. With mine I told people I'm closest to then let it naturally spread. If I had to personally tell every single person I've ever met or my family has ever met by the time I got round everyone the kid would be telling them.

PurpleDisco · 10/08/2026 10:48

2 years ago? Your MIL is not the problem, you are! You say she’s nice, wonderful to your kids, treats you like a daughter and she’s generally lovely… you sound like a difficult person… a trouble maker basically… you told your MIL you were pregnant knowing she’d tell her daughters just so you could complain to your DH (her son) about her! You had a plan to stir trouble and are still going on about it 2 years later… your MIL was probably excited about a new grandchild and most mothers who are close to their daughters would tell about a new baby on the way. My guess is you’re not from a close family and you don’t have sisters so you’re jealous of their close mother / daughter relationship and they are probably close to their brother too. Try to see the many good things of your MIL like you write in your post and try to be appreciative of her. Just be a nicer person, otherwise they won’t like you or treat you like another daughter.

SerendipityCat · 10/08/2026 10:59

I’ve read your previous threads, op. There seem to have been a couple of minor disagreements about your Mil giving your children sweets and some awkwardness about Christmas arrangements, nothing remotely serious. On the face of it, you were overthinking then and you’re overthinking now. It was two years ago, it was pretty minor anyway, just let it go.

Snufkin88 · 10/08/2026 11:04

If you aren’t that close why did you tell her . I didn’t tell my MIL until I was telling everyone . What were the consequences of her telling them in the grand scheme of things . Seriously let it go ?I think it’s abnormal to be mulling over something so trivial. Sorry

SleeptightEvangeline · 10/08/2026 11:07

I’ve had a read of your old posts too. You seem to be re litigating events from two years ago in all these recent threads. You’ve also admitted you don’t particularly like her. I don’t think your MIL is at fault here tbh. You need to find a way to let this stuff go, or it will eat you up.

QuirkyHorse · 10/08/2026 11:09

Ridiculous!
If you don't like her, keep your distance and let your son facilitate the relationship with your children.

ThisDreamyExpert · 10/08/2026 10:45

Thank you, I see I might ve unreasonable here.

You reckon??

SoBoredOfSelfDoubtHowToGetOut · 10/08/2026 11:13

It is not healthy to brood over these things for years and years. Why are you doing this?

Do you nurse grudges forever? So boring and a waste of energy.

Nousernameideaaga · 10/08/2026 11:15

Dramatic

tastytea · 10/08/2026 11:16

Did you tell her she had to keep it a secret? If not then i don't see that she's done anything wrong.

You sound incredibly hard work OP.

Comeondoreen · 10/08/2026 11:17

I think it’s clear from your post that you do know you’re being unreasonable. Do you have any insight or feeling on why it is you’re deliberately causing issues with a MIL who you say is lovely? Do you have unhealed issues with your own mother? Are you insecure about something?

utahsainthood · 10/08/2026 11:19

This is an absolute non problem
