I dont have a particularly close relationship with my mil. I dont also feel like I want to do much to get too close. Although she is nice and wonderful to my kids and sees me as her own daughter. I always had a superficial rel to her. Please try to read my previous threads to het a better understanding of me to get full picture.
i fell pregant two years ago and told her, I later dound out feom my SILs that she had told them. It came out and she at first said that in her defence, she had told them I think I might be pregnant, not that it was a certainty. She then later did apologise to me personally while in the kirchen. My husbnad had told her that it was not her place. I am still fuming at times now. My colleague told he mer mil did this and it just brought up old anger and resentment. Please help me to still maintain a decent relationship with her. She is generally lovely.

What was the big secret? Why couldn't she tell her daughters? She ruined your moment in being able to tell them personally or what?

I cant believe this is being given head space 2 years later. Pick a struggle.

Rachie1973 · 10/08/2026 11:26

I do feel for your MIL. You say yourself that she treats you like a daughter, yet you constantly find fault with her, even contemplating a contract for when she looks after them!

Bizarre behaviour.

YouSawBrigadoon · 10/08/2026 11:29

How very petty of you.

CurlewKate · 10/08/2026 11:34

She is nice, wonderful to your kids and sees you as her daughter. But you don’t want to do anything to build a relationship with her. How horrible. She must feel like shit.

Oliwiaa · 10/08/2026 11:37

So two years ago, a nice lady didn't really do anything wrong and apologised for it, and you're still angry about it?

AgentPidge · 10/08/2026 11:42

If you want to keep something a secret, don't tell it to anyone. (Also, if someone tells you a secret, keep your mouth shut.) Two good life lessons. Did you tell her not to tell anyone? If not, it wasn't a secret and it was just something of interest for her to discuss with her DDs.

whippersnapper55 · 10/08/2026 11:46

Honestly OP, having read all your previous threads, you do seem to have an unhealthy obsession with your mother in law with every aspect of her behaviour scrutinised and ruminated over. This happened 2 years ago! Your MIL was probably just very excited about the prospect of another grandchild and blurted it out. People make mistakes. She's human. You really need to get a grip of this obsession as it is obviously affecting you badly.

Undercoverpepsicola · 10/08/2026 11:48

I have looked up your other threads.
Your MiL sounds absolutely lovely and like she has been nothing but patient and accommodating.
You on the other hand sound petulant and like you’re constantly spoiling to pick fight or find something to dislike about her.

shhhh2025 · 10/08/2026 11:48

No one is this pathetic

CurlewKate · 10/08/2026 11:56

Oh god-is this the mil who gave the children some sweets, was told not to and so didn’t do it again? That poor woman!

Dollymylove · 10/08/2026 11:56

I think.you need to give your head a good wobble. You say you like your MIL and she treats you well so what is the problem? A good MIL is worth more than gold so dont spoil it by bringing up something that happened 2 years ago

MyPlumHelper · 10/08/2026 12:05

I like the thread about this:

Hi! I have had couple of issues with my children’s grandparents, my in laws- in sticking to our house rules and following our rules regarding to sweets and screentime. Is it totally unreasonable to draw a ‘contract’ to say how we are raising our kids and what rules to follow? MIL looks after the kids on regular basis and I want to avoid future conflict to arise and state my expectations.

At this rate, she will end up divorced, and her husband will be able to take the children to see his mother without her knowing anything that goes on. I can't believe he allows his wife to treat his mother this way.

Dear God

So the poor woman is good enough to look after the OP's kids on a regular basis, yet she wanted her to sign a contract with rules 😳

Tablesandchairs23 · 10/08/2026 12:14

This is a non issue.

Anywherebuthere · 10/08/2026 12:14

Two years ago?

You need to find something better to occupy your time and thoughts with than be fuming over something so trivial from two years ago.

This is awful! I feel sorry for the MIL here.

Ponderingwindow · 10/08/2026 12:21

A woman is excited to be a grandmother and shares the news. She must be a monster. <sarcasm>

Hopefulsalmon · 10/08/2026 12:22

This is ridiculous amount of time to hold on to a resentment that was pretty silly in the first place - especially as your MIL is nice.

Baskingintheheat · 10/08/2026 12:26

You don't need a reason to dislike your MIL. Even when she respects your boundaries and apologizes when she oversteps.

For your own sake let it go and let your husband manage his mother. This is your problem not hers.

Pssedoffathis · 10/08/2026 12:28

Seriously why are you thinking about this anymore. It’s like the least important thing to use your mind for.
once two years ago, a person I know told someone else ai know that I am pregnant, I was and now we all get along ok… Is NOT something you need to think about ever again.

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 10/08/2026 12:31

Yeah, sorry, I don’t know if being told you’re being unreasonable will help with letting it go - but you need to let it go. It’s not even that big of a deal if I’m being completely honest. It’s shitty that your SIL told you she knew. But I tell my mum and my wife stuff all the time. It was good news. You can be more cautious about what you tell her in future but move on

caringcarer · 10/08/2026 12:33

You say your mil is lovely to you and lovely to your DC concentrate on that. Your mil made one little mistake 3 years ago probably through her own excitement and has apologised. Move on and let it go. If you get pregnant again maybe don't tell her until you want sil to know too. When my DD got pregnant I could tell immediately by her face. She didn't tell me but I asked her if she was pregnant and she said how did you know? I had to promise not to tell my exh or anyone else. This was our first DGC and I was so excited.

Mydogisagentleman · 10/08/2026 12:37

Fucking hell.
You sound deranged

Kindling1970 · 10/08/2026 12:43

My father in law did this to us. Was sort of annoyed at the time but quickly got over it as I had my pregnancy to concentrate on and he didn’t do it on purpose, just got a bit over excited

PDAalltheway · 10/08/2026 12:45

Had you asked her not to tell anyone else? If not, I don't see what the problem is.
