I went in last week for scan on my kidneys, a suspicious lump that needed checking. Climb up on the bed and said to the lady “oh this brings back memories!!” She smiled at me, and started the scan. First stop, bladder. Asked if I’d used the toilet and I said yes, asked any chance of pregnancy, I said NOOOOOOO…….she said “oh……I do see something here.”

well, I nearly fell off the bed looking round at the screen to see a HEARTBEAT!!!! I did a little swear under my breath (my children are 10 and 13…….im 37!!! I thought I was done and was so careful!!) and she said I need to take a pregnancy test…….which I thought was a bit irrelevant since there’s a baby on the screen with a beating heart!!

I took one anyway, positive instantly and the darkest I’ve ever seen a test…….next day I made an emergency appointment at EPU, there it was, 6 weeks…….and I had absolutely NO idea. Zero. And I’d still have no idea as I’m lacking any symptoms I had with my first two!!

so that’s my story! I’m still very much in shock and disbelief.

i thought I had a horrible cyst/lump…. Instead I left with a baby 🤣

Oh, also to add, I'm not a doctor, but I imagine that the reason some women get multiple contraception failures is maybe as likely that these kinds of statistically rare (but not impossible) events do happen across the whole population - like people who get struck by lightening twice - rather than that there's something so unique about their individual bodies that compromises through contraception?

I knew I was pregnant early as we had had IVF so I was testing on the date the clinic told us, also, I have very regular periods so the late period would have tipped me off even if it was unexpected. However, I had absolutely no pregnancy symptoms of any kind at any stage of pregnancy, apart from swollen ankles at the very end, and barely gained any weight. I am quite slim so thought I would be showing earlier but, even at nearly full-term, I barely had any bump, you would have to have looked really closely to even tell I was pregnant. Our perfect baby girl was a perfectly healthy weight when she was born and is now a very tall toddler, no idea where she was hiding herself!
I had a very easy and straightforward pregnancy and I know I am lucky not to have suffered from morning sickness or anything, but, in a way, I would have welcomed some symptoms as the lack of them worried me. I can totally imagine not realising you are pregnant until later on, especially if on hormonal birth control or if your periods are sporadic, given that I really didn't feel any different, didn't even start to feel baby kick until 22 weeks as I had an anterior placenta.

I've mentioned before on here. 36 years old, tee total, never pregnant before, horrendous PMT and weird cravings for white wine and crisps.
Did a pregnancy test just to shut up the voice in my head, and I swear the stick went positive before the pee even touched it!
Private scan confirmed 10weeks pregnant; I was in such shock and disbelief! My 'pmt' is 6 now, and we bumble along somehow 😂

no way at 37 would I want a baby, no way would I want such a big age gap 😱😱

My tiny friend went to Australia for a year, she was a size 8 and literally lived in bikinis for the whole year, 3 weeks after coming home felt very ill and had horrendous belly pains, parents called an ambulance and she went to hospital only to find out she was fully dilated and was about to have a baby!!
Her stomach was as flat as a pancake in all her holiday photos even the photos that were taken the day she flew home!
