I went in last week for scan on my kidneys, a suspicious lump that needed checking. Climb up on the bed and said to the lady “oh this brings back memories!!” She smiled at me, and started the scan. First stop, bladder. Asked if I’d used the toilet and I said yes, asked any chance of pregnancy, I said NOOOOOOO…….she said “oh……I do see something here.”

well, I nearly fell off the bed looking round at the screen to see a HEARTBEAT!!!! I did a little swear under my breath (my children are 10 and 13…….im 37!!! I thought I was done and was so careful!!) and she said I need to take a pregnancy test…….which I thought was a bit irrelevant since there’s a baby on the screen with a beating heart!!

I took one anyway, positive instantly and the darkest I’ve ever seen a test…….next day I made an emergency appointment at EPU, there it was, 6 weeks…….and I had absolutely NO idea. Zero. And I’d still have no idea as I’m lacking any symptoms I had with my first two!!

so that’s my story! I’m still very much in shock and disbelief.

i thought I had a horrible cyst/lump…. Instead I left with a baby 🤣

I’ve been exhausted for 13 years! 😂😂😂 my 13 year old still sleeps in weird patterns and hardly any sleep! Don’t know how he runs on so little sleep haha 😜

@Jaydekins89 I'd love tiny updates over your pregnancy if you didn't mind every so often. I usually log onto mumsnet over my tea/ lunch break and I know it'll give me a little smile each time.

I’m on the mini pill and really don’t want anymore kids. Out of curiosity did you miss taking one and were you taking it at the same time each day? Not criticising you in any shape or form whatsoever, I’m just genuinely terrified of being pregnant again and am limited as to what contraception I can use. Congratulations to you though as it seems like a happy surprise and best wishes for your pregnancy.

I'm always amazed that people who get pregnant on hormonal contraception, trust it again. People who get pregnant on the pill twice and then still trust the mini pill blows my mind!

My friend has got pregnant on virtually all types of contraception she is now sticking to abstinence which has 100% success rate

Did you mean this to come off as patronising? OP has said she was on BBC. I know of two unplanned pregnancies while using condoms, one the condom broke and one they were using both hormonal contraception and a condom. That was a friend of my ex so I didn't get the fine details of what happened with the condom exactly, but point is the only 100% effective method of contraception is abstinence.

Oh my goodness this gave me goosebumps! Congratulations, I can sense a lot of happiness alongside the shock! I also got pregnant with my second whilst on the mini pill only 9 months after my son was born so I definitely relate to the shock element but obviously not to this extreme 😅

My mum had chronic endio - really really awful, severe scar tissue and almost completely blocked tubes. Was told she would never have children and eventually came to terms with it (along with my DDad)

Aged 36 starts putting on a bit of weight and as it was the early 70s decided to go on the 'Egg, Cottage Cheese and Wine' diet and up her smoking to curb the hunger pangs.... Was also playing tennis three times a week and finally started to shift the pounds.

Two months later, she started re-gaining weight despite half a bottle of red wine a day whilst smoking for England. A month after that, I was born. Miraculously perfectly healthy.

It happens.

Similar experience. Went for a smear test. Nurse called in the GP. She felt my stomach and told me she could feel something. Sent for a scan. Baby boy. He’ll be 29 on Sunday x

Didn’t miss one, all taken at the same time every day (I set an alarm!) no vomiting or the runs, no antibiotics……just happened! 😂 but it did keep me safe for 10 years lol

Congratulations op, what a lovely shock! My mum's friend's DIL was in her mid 40s and thought to be infertile and she went to a&e with "appendicitis", which turned out to be a 7 months along baby boy! He was born soon after but he was fine and he's now in his 20s. His parents always called him their little miracle.

I didn’t trust it again after my second….. I changed to a completely different pill that was effective for 10 years! Your coming off as jealous and bitter

What an amazing trip to the hospital. Go in being anxious about a cyst or similar, but come home with a baby. You're a very lucky woman, congratulations!
