I went in last week for scan on my kidneys, a suspicious lump that needed checking. Climb up on the bed and said to the lady “oh this brings back memories!!” She smiled at me, and started the scan. First stop, bladder. Asked if I’d used the toilet and I said yes, asked any chance of pregnancy, I said NOOOOOOO…….she said “oh……I do see something here.”

well, I nearly fell off the bed looking round at the screen to see a HEARTBEAT!!!! I did a little swear under my breath (my children are 10 and 13…….im 37!!! I thought I was done and was so careful!!) and she said I need to take a pregnancy test…….which I thought was a bit irrelevant since there’s a baby on the screen with a beating heart!!

I took one anyway, positive instantly and the darkest I’ve ever seen a test…….next day I made an emergency appointment at EPU, there it was, 6 weeks…….and I had absolutely NO idea. Zero. And I’d still have no idea as I’m lacking any symptoms I had with my first two!!

so that’s my story! I’m still very much in shock and disbelief.

i thought I had a horrible cyst/lump…. Instead I left with a baby 🤣

Yes, it’s a harmless cyst thankfully!!! But the baby will be hanging about for the next 18 years 😂😂

Awww, that's really lovely, congratulations. If it's a girl you need to call her Cystelia (as in Imrie) and if it's a boy Cystin (as in Timberlake)!

I know that feeling. I was 44.5. Down to one tube and half an ovary.

Went to the gp feeling tired, and thought my thyroid was playing up, similar to my dsis. GP took a blood test and rang me the next day. Whaaaaaat !!

How did they know there was a suspected lump on your kidney?

I used to work in A&E years ago and had a lady come in with back pain and spotting. They scanned her, full term baby, head was engaged and she was in labour! She was a larger lady and you couldn't see a baby bump at all. She had a 19yr old and no others. Worse part was she said it wasn't her husbands so we weren't to say anything 😬

Labour ward contacted me later that night that all was well with mum and baby boy ❤️

A friend of mine went to the hospital with horrendous stomach pains and it turned out she was in labour, no idea that she had been pregnant. Around a year later she was moaning about stomach pains again, we joked about another baby, and sure enough that’s exactly what it was. 🙈

I was having a ct with diverticulitis flare a few months ago…. It come up on that scan so they wanted a closer look, took this long for the appointment! Thankfully all is ok with that 👍🏻

Awww congrats! We just had our third baby who was unplanned and she’s amazing, we’re all so in love, we now feel like three is a lovely number 😂❤️

He was shocked for about 5 seconds then just laughed 😂😂😂 told Me we will be fine what ever I choose (I’d already decided no more babies)….. but this is fate and I told him we now parents to 3!

My youngest DD is 15 years younger than our eldest and I was 38 when she arrived. She really has completed our family. Third times a charm 😍

Being careful with a condom? Because it's not being careful without one. It's how your first two came along.

Ladies/gentleman - Use a condom. It's not rocket science. Condom and contraception (together!) , or snippety-snip.

I hope those of you "Being careful" aren't telling your children the same "Being cafeful" methods, work.

I was in hospital last week and had to have a pregnancy test done. A different nurse from the one who was looking after me literally bounded in to do it. I had told her it definitely would be negative (and it was), but you could tell she got a real buzz from being present for any 'miracles', as she termed it. Congratulations on yours!

The pill is more effective than a condom…..so yes I was being careful with a 99% chance of safety compared to a 98% with a condom with perfect use……human error is more likely with a condom.

I was on the ante natal ward for monitoring before I had my DS. I got chatting with the lady in the bed opposite and asked her how far along she was, expecting her to say 12 weeks or so because she was completely flat-stomached, about a size 8 and wearing tight white jeans. Nope, 36 weeks. She had only found out at 33 weeks and I could see why! I was 37 weeks and was literally four times wider than she was.

I'll add my story. I had my coil removed to try for a baby. They ripped my uterus removing it, sent me for a scan to assess the damage. She scanned me and said "oh that's a big baby!" Cue Me swearing blind i wasn't pregnant. Turns out I was 16 weeks so had got pregnant with the coil in.
Luckily the tear was not near where the umbilical was attached and after 5 months of total bedrest I had a healthy baby. He's 16 now.

Oh my lord!!! I genuinely wonder how far I would have gone without this scan. No symptoms as of yet!

I know it's been a long time since you've had babies but I wouldn't worry about being too old. Mine are 4 and 2, I'm 38. I am exhausted but here!!
