cake Cake Cake Cake CAKE CAKE CAKE.............

Sorry I couldn't resist won't be saying this when I'm trying to get back my figure (from 15 yrs ago back)at the end of the year.

wow high heels and cocktails, my background is science so it was more lab coats and acid burns! I'm really not sure if I will go to work after the LO, last time I had bad PND and going back to work was a relief in a way cos I knew I could do work . cripes that sounds awful doesn't it.

mrsboogie · 03/07/2008 20:08

no, it doesn't sound the slightest bit awful hedgepig.

my OH is also a civil servant too and thinks he would love to share the maternity leave, I would have been perfectly happy to swap the last month or more but we aren't allowed. Which is ridiculous cos I earn twice what he does so they would have been saving loads. In Iceland maternity leave is one year and can be shared between parents in any way they wish. Nice.

hhaha love that - figure from 15 yrs ago - me too

hedgepig · 03/07/2008 20:46

Found a photo of me when I 1st knew DH the other day (20yrs ekkkkkk, only been together as a couple 10ys, married 1yr!) and I was so skinny but I didn't think so then .

Maternity leave is weird isn't it. I'm not that fussed on babies to be honest so I would rather had a big slug of maternity leave when Ben was 2-3 rather than a little baby. But there of lots of worse places I think in the uUS you only get a few weeks in total.

mrsboogie · 03/07/2008 20:53

oh me too, or be able to spread it out and work three days a week for a year or something.

I am not a baby person either. Much prefer when they can talk to you...

I was so skinny when I had my son 20 yrs ago my stomach went immediately flat after the birth. Sigh.

johnworf · 03/07/2008 22:45

Phew, just managed to catch up on all the posts!

I must admit i do like working from home, in our home office with DH. I just shut the rat race out of my mind and go about in my own little world

Oh, and I adore being pregnant (although it won't be happening again for me) and I am one of those women who coo at babies and love little socks etc.

Yep, I am a SADDO.

Huzzah!

disneystar · 03/07/2008 22:59

johnworf · 04/07/2008 08:10

Hey disneystar. Wow, only 5 days to go You'll be fine dear. Not like it's your first!!!

Your 1st three kids are the same ages are my first 3 How is your daughter doing? I was trying to remember when she was due.

Katherine is doing fine so far. Long way to go yet but taking each day as it comes. Hopefully now she's off the ventilator she'll stay off it. I'm off to see her in a couple of hours to I'll say a big hello from you

Hope everything goes well with the birth, which I'm sure it will. Keep me posted

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2008 08:54

Disneystar;Wow at #7!And in just 5 short days too!! Good luck, I hope it all goes easily and smoothly for you.

Johnworf;I'm in the saddo club with you too...I loved being pregnant too (though I do wish someone could have told me everything would be ok this time so I could have enjoyed it without the constant worry)and wish we could risk doing it again... though I'm also loving this newly mobile stage packing away all ds's size 00 socks last week made me realise how quickly he is growing up and nearly made me cry.

those of you who were ever skinny..I always struggled with my weight...lost 4 stone 7lb 8 yrs ago..kept it off for 4 yrs (while I met and married dh...suckered him into thinking he had a naturally size 12/14 wife)but comfort ate half a stone on with each pg/mcand though I have lost ds's baby weight I still have 3 stones to lose again....You would think it would drop off chasing after a walking 9 mth old wouldnt you?

johnworf · 04/07/2008 09:07

FloriaTosca I too have at least 2.5 stone to lose. I've lost some of it through BF but the rest is just stuck there. Bah! and I thought that BF would melt all my excess flesh off Trouble is when you're BF you want lots of sugary stuff (well I do anyway) so you are getting the extra calories but from the wrong stuff.

I'm looking forward to chasing Katherine around with my dodgy knee. God, I am feeling my age

I also just looked at the saddo things that mean you're turning into your mother list in this months Good Housekeeping (yep, I subscribe to it, I am truly a saddo)and I managed to tick off most of them with a def YES!

If I get time, I'll post some of the saddo indicators later on...heh

mrsboogie · 04/07/2008 10:58

I have four stone to lose and I am determined to do it after the birth as I would like the option of getting pg again at some point but am fed up with the reaction from medical staff about my BMI (not to mention my smartarse boss - still VERY peed off about that.

I am not and will NEVER turn into my mother

brookeslay · 04/07/2008 10:58

hi ladies,

Hope you are all doing fine. Im back from the sunny delights last week of Bournemouth after taking my mother there. Stressful as she is has dementia and me feeling sick and tired perhaps wasnt the best. Booked before I knew I was pregnant. Im feeling sick from about midday to midnight any tips gratefully accepted. I did skim through what ive missed and hope to catch up more now i`m back. Hoping the popped mummuies are coping well and the pregnant ones are bloooming.

love to all Brooke

disneystar · 04/07/2008 11:31

about the weight loss thing

i was always always overweight till last easter when i lost nearly 5 stone in total began to wear loads of new clothes more confident sexy underwear our private live just took of
dh took me away for a romantic weekend for my 40th and i came back pregnant

oh man i gotta do it all again nearly not the whole lot though im still the same size just in maternity clothes

pro,s and cons to big weight losses

hedgepig · 04/07/2008 11:43

I'm 4 stone overweight too MrsB I think we are going to have to start a diet club once we have delivered. It is amazing any of us have conceived in the 1st place given that being overweight is supposed to stop you conceving - dam lies and statistics hey . I haven't put on much weight through this pg due to sickness and appiteite loss, last time I was actually lighter by the time I had DS BUT then my appetite came back - sigh.
Brookeslay sorry your holiday wasn't too brilliant. I was horribly sick for the 1st trimester too (still occasionaly now) eating little and often helped me a bit and resting, I was going to bed before my DS for about the 2 months. Some people find the travel sickness wrist bands help, didn't try them myself though.

mrsboogie · 04/07/2008 13:16

Gosh disneystar how did you manage to lose 5 stone? I demand to know the secret!!

I don't think I have put on a lot of weight - can still wear pre pregnacy clothes. That's one good thing - they say you put on less if you are overweight to start with (my excess was due to wine drinking so I guess not doing that helps)

The one thing that worries me is if you lose 4 stone could you end up with excess skin? I can't afford a tummy tuck!

disneystar · 04/07/2008 14:20

i rode my bike everywhere drank lots of water no excess skin really
did look older though more lines n the face but what can you do
i ate everything out of a cereal bowl so when it came to dinner thats how much i ate
i never snacked either
never ate food as such after 6pm
bowl of cherry toms in the evening
no bread ever
no butter
no fat
just came of and cos of the exersice no loose skin
i hate to think what my tummy gonna look like next week when baby is here, sure its gonna hang down to my knees

mrsboogie · 04/07/2008 15:06

thanks disney star- all makes sense of course. My problem (aside from the wine) is that I can eat a fairly large evening meal quite late. I do cycle as well and drink a lot of water and I never snack or eat takeaways or that - all food home made but too much of it obviously.

well, looks like its the disneystar diet for me in a few months time!

pwcbird · 04/07/2008 15:59

Hello ladies,
I too am overweight. Several years ago I was a very big lady and then lost 6 1/2 stone (with weight watchers) and was super slim size 8 and was totally so excited. In truth though I was eating nothing much to maintain it - it was satsumas and cigarettes mostly (!!) After meeting DH and all we ever did was go out to eat and/or go out and drink and I stopped smoking as well and so I sort of gradually put 3-4 stone back on, which is where I am now and not happy. Though saying that, at 19 weeks pregnant I have put virtually no weight on - maybe 3-4lbs or so. I think we are going to have to do that diet club as I'm really keen to get back down to a size 12 after baby comes out. I'm so fed up with being overweight and I'm 'older' I want to be a fit and healthy mum, not one that gets puffed running after two children. Gotta do it!

brookslay lemonade helped me - I felt very sick in the evenings this time. Also classic things like eating small and often rather than a big meal and things like ginger biscuits, cold water and crackers.

I rather like being pregnant though don't like this just looking fatter than normal bit. Want my bump to really show. I agree about the loose skin though... tummy tucks all round?

pwcbird · 04/07/2008 16:02

btw johnworf I'm a Good Housekeeping person too. I never thought it would happen but it has. Mrsboogie sad to say we ALL turn into our mothers

mrsboogie · 04/07/2008 16:10

I stopped smoking 4 and a half years ago also and that sure ain't helped matters.

See, I am prepared to live on satsumas if that's what it takes. Can't do much about the lines (well, I can I suppose ) but I don't want to be a frumpy middle aged spread looking mum at the schoool gate. Especially since my OH is 28 and georgeous. Its especially hard on days like today when all the ladies are swanning round in lovely summer clothes. I know its v special being pregnant and there's only 11 weeks to go so I will stop wittering in self pity and gear myself up to getting on with it after.

disneystar · 04/07/2008 17:09

im 40 and my husband is 30 i try to keep myself looking younger by keeping fit i guess i dont wanna look like his mother in 10 years time
anyway he was so proud of me last year

i stopped smoking last october really dont wanna start again

pwcbird · 04/07/2008 17:24

All you ladies with your Young Men! Hurrah I say to it! Mine is younger but only just over a year so doesn't really count for much. Good on ya girls!

mrsboogie · 04/07/2008 17:35

well disneystar - I have to say that giving up smoking is the best thing I ever did. I love it when the year rolls around and I can say its another year off them. I wouldn't touch one now if the entire house blew up. Looking a bit fat and frumpy is one thing but hacking away like somethng from a geriatric ward is a million times worse!! and as for those cat's arse lines around the dedicated smoker's mouth - eeuuwww.

I only wish I had given it up years sooner.

But you did that and lost loads of weight - blimey you must be one strong lady

I work with a woamn who is a committed smoker (and an alcoholic)she smoked and drank throughout her pregnancies and encouraged her grown up children to smoke. Both of them didn't until recently and now her and her husband have got them onto the fags. Mad.

hedgepig · 04/07/2008 17:36

where do you find these young men??? My DH is 4yrs older than me.
Hope we hear from KAZ soon I'm stating to get a bit worried - worried is my middle name after all.

pwcbird · 04/07/2008 18:29

Yes I was thinking about kaz as well. Can't wait to hear.

I'm with you mrsboogie I have become a fervant anti-smoker and was never happier when the smoking ban came in. I can't bear it now and am so happy to have stopped it. I remember getting to 35 and just hating myself for smoking still. That was the turning point for me. My Mother in Law (this was the 60's remember) cut down to 10 a day when pregnant with DH! and my mum had a nice runny fried egg every morning when she was pregnant with my brother. Oh I crave runny eggs. I know some have them still but I'm wary. I mentioned it to a friend the other day (also pregnant) and she looked aghast at me at the thought of eating a non-solid egg whilst pregnant. Though saying that I've eaten manchego cheese whilst on holiday (apparently sheep and on the NO list), serrano ham (cured not cooked) clams (though were hot cooked, prawns in sandwiches, sushi (though not raw fish - just salmon and veg california rolls) and probably other things, though not often I hasten to add. I'm finding it really hard to keep on the 'ideal'list and am probably a Bad Pregnant Lady. Plus terrible cravings for chilled glasses of rose wine this warm weather.

mrsboogie · 04/07/2008 19:45

was it Monday we last heard from Kaz? I suppose if she had a cs she'd only be getting out around now. I'm sure she'll pop into update us as soon as possible.

I didn't even realise prawns weren't allowed - although I hate them so that's not a worry.

Oh pcwbird - would you not have a glass? I have allowed myself 2 glasses of red wine a week throughout; one on Saturday night and one on Sunday. ing it to three one of these days .
