Ok we have talked to the end of the topic so here is a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
johnworf · 02/07/2008 08:24

There's a lot of names on that list I haven't seen for a while. I wonder how they're doing?

hedgepig · 02/07/2008 08:59

Hi JW that's what I though whne I found the list I hope everyone is OK. We haven't heard from MrsJupiter in a while.
How is Katherine is she coping better with the larger ventilator tube?
I'm very tired today I went to a WI meeting last nigt andthe chairs weren't too comfuy so my back is killing me today

johnworf · 02/07/2008 09:30

aww hedgepig hope you're feeling a bit more chipper soon dear

Katherine is doing ok. They've sent off some chest secretions for analysis and started her on the antibiotics so we'll see what today's visit holds for us. Have this meeting today with consultant and I must admit I am having a hard time trying to be level headed about the whole affair. I'm sure DH will hold me back if I try to deck him Just j/k naturally.

This larger vent tube seems to have caused some trauma - coupled I'm sure with the way the nurse manhandled her on sunday so all this is in my black book which I'm taking with me today.

I hope kaz1967 is doing ok. I wonder if she's had her LO already?

Yes, I wondered about mrsjupiter too. Perhaps the other ladies just have a real life unlike myself!

jeanjeannie · 02/07/2008 09:37

hedgepig are you in the WI...as in Jam & jerusalem? I'm quite fascinated by the WI...contemplating joining...could be an outlet for my date and walnut cake although i get the impression there's a bit more to it than that! I'm in the Wycombe society...and they said that i was the only member young enough to have a baby

pwvbird I didn't feel a thing...movements...or particularly preggie with DD2 until 22-24 weeks...really late considering there was only 18 mnths between them.

JW cheers for the list update. Hope Katherine is good. Hey, she's well past the month mark now...doesn't time fly.

Surely babykaz has arrived....*claps hands in excitement. Blimey, it was darn close to the move Hope she clocks in soon to let us know.

pwcbird · 02/07/2008 10:13

I know... I wondered about MrsJupiter. I did a search to see if she was on any other threads but no she's nowhere else.

I've been secretly interested in the WI hedgepig but a bit scared that they'll all be ladies in tweed skirts and flat lace-ups. On the website there seem to be a few near me - I suppose I'll just have to contact them and see.

My head feels like a fog today. In fact my head is like the weather - low grey cloud with no clear spells. Funny how you wake up like this sometimes . Just want to drink tea and dunk chocolate biscuits in fron of TV but DS won't allow that - so it's avanti avanti as ever

mrsboogie · 02/07/2008 10:22

jeanjeanie - I will be an outlet (or is that an inlet?) for your date and walnut cake

mmm... cake you've got me started already

If only the WI was like jam and jerusalem - fab!

still all quiet on the kaz front eh? there must be summat afoot!

I am having a tea in front of the telly day today - had a nightmare day yesterday in the heat; after noticing that my toast and marmite had some sort of weird floral scent to it I nearly threw up and felt sick all day made much worse by the heat. Was glued to the electric fan all day at work and decided to have an easy one today.

jw - hope everything is ok; the doctors must surely understand your frustration and concern? I bet they get loads of mums doing the lioness in there!

johnworf · 02/07/2008 10:42

haha...I dunno if they're all like me. I suspect not (nursing staff wipe their furrowed brows in relief).

I actually enquired through the WI website to join them when I was pregnant but my nearest meet is some 8 miles away so I uhmmmed and ahhhed for a while then thought perhaps not as it's too far. I'm def not part of the twin set and pearls brigade but I think the WI has modernised itself and that old image is no longer true.

Aye, Katherine is 5 weeks old today Seems like 5 months ago I gave birth! It's taken such a long time in my world to get this far. When I sit and think about it, I can't actually believe it's only 5 little weeks since I delivered her...wow.

Anyway, milking machine is calling me (moooooooo) so I'm off to fill some bottles

Catch you all later.

hedgepig · 02/07/2008 11:08

I joined WI cos we live in a small village and we had been here 4 years and didn't know anyone, and it has helped. I am the youngest it is nice but slightly quirky I must admit. But probaly because it is a very small group (23 members). It is just completely different to most things I do it is a nice change. I would imaging in a larger place with more members you would get more younger members like us
MrsB I think I over did it yesterday in the heat too I am at work but have a head ache and feel rather washed out today.
Happy milking JW

Jackie77 · 02/07/2008 11:45

Hello ladies. johnworf your updated list has spurred me in to posting. So pleased Katherine is holding her own.

I have a date for my c section - next Monday morning! Feeling more nervous than I expected but this may have something to do with the Consultant telling me he had decided he didn't want to induce me as I had had another birthday and he doesn't want me to be too tired. I was depressed at hitting 49 (oh god, it looks worse written down!) anyway without him telling me I'm basically too clapped out to push!

Great to see everyones news I will let you have an update when I get back home. Any advice for speeding up recovery from anyone with past experience of a section would be great.

jeanjeannie · 02/07/2008 11:51

Look at all us closet WI wannabees I think we should all run off and join hedgepig as I reckon we could spice it up with some younger blood and crazy ideas in no time!

Cake being parcelled up and sent to mrsboogie My date and walnut is my signature bit of baking...I'd serve it up if I was ever on Come Dine with me

I think all of you who have chance to sit down, drink tea and dunk biscuits really should...while you can

I'm still recovering from a 2 mile walk in the heat yesterday. I can't get over how thirsty breastfeeding makes you.... I must be at least 90% liquid by now.

jackie77 next monday - wow. Well, all I can say is that my planned c-sec (almost 5 weeks ago) was FAB...so passing on good vibes that yours will be too xx

mrsboogie · 02/07/2008 12:06

I know its silly but I kinda wish I could have an elective c section... I'm really scared something will go wrong in labour - think I have read too many horror stories...plus was in labour for four days with my older son and don't think I could hack that at my age

pwcbird · 02/07/2008 12:22

mrsboogie I think about that too. labour with DS was almost 36 hours (so not much compared to yours) but didn't have a great 'birth experience' as the labour ward/delivery rooms were full and my midwife was seeing to 4 women so consequently was left alone nearly all the time until I delivered. I dread that happening again but have to think to myself that a) this time I am more knowing and prepared and b)a squillion babies are born each year and everything is fine.Positive vibes and all that.

mrsboogie · 02/07/2008 12:44

aye yes, must banish negative thoughts

my experience wasn't too bad in terms of staff- my son was born in st mary's in paddington 20 yrs ago and the place was spotless, I remember carpeted floors, nice food, and was surrounded by medical staff in labour (probably cos of the epidural), I was nearly three weeks overdue and they had to break my waters in the end as he was determined not to come out. Think it went on a bit too long as he was distressed when born. I had no idea of what could go wrong in those days and had total trust in the staff. Different now of course

jeanjeannie · 02/07/2008 13:04

Yes, banish those thoughts BOTH of you! I think being prepared and relaxing if things don't go exactly as you expect is the best thing possible. I met a woman who was in tears a day after the birth back on the ward because her birth plan was ruined as she'd said she wanted a certain CD played and the CD player was broken! She just couldn't move on and get over it

mrsboogie I can't imagine a hospital with carpeted floors these days....can't see that surviving Gordon Browns designated 'deep clean'!

Oh I've actually posted pics on my profile - finally...and one of (almost) 5 week old Verity. Not got that many pics of her yet - but she's awake more now - so more 'boasting' pics will surely follow!

mrsboogie · 02/07/2008 13:22

haha -I am not planning anything - have no interest in birth plans or any of that malarky- just want the LO out safely. Don't care how its done - I doubt if I would hear any background music over the sound of my own screaming anyway happy to give myself over to the staff in principle.

oooh blimey jeanjeanie - she is georgeous - I was going to say how "unsquished" she looks but of course you had a c section. Her big sis is a doll too - I do like the names you have given them. There are so many "classic" names for girls that are quite uncommon unlike those for boys I think.

hedgepig · 02/07/2008 16:10

Oh that's better, I finally gave in and came home from work and after a 2 hr snooze I feel human again .
jj what lovely girls you have, may I ask why the cement mixer???. I have put a couple of photos on my profile too.
MrsB & PCWbird I am really committed not to having another cs and trying for a VBAC this time but I keep having my doubts and wondering whether an ECS would be better. I think its just normal. As I have said before DS was breech and so I have never had a contraction so I am mildly freaking about the unknown. MrsB I think your no particular birth plan is a cool way to go but I'm too much of a control freak to not have a list

mrsboogie · 02/07/2008 16:30

eehhmm I keep seeing VBACs mentioned and I have no idea what they are - anyone care to enlighten me?

pwcbird · 02/07/2008 17:36

mrsboogie VBAC = Vaginal Birth After Caesarian.
I don't want a c-section at all and want to do it naturally again - I just don't relish it but have to think that it's just a day or so and then done and like everyone else just want it to all be ok.

As for birth plans - well - err.. first time round I spent about a day at the computer writing my 5000 word essay on my birthplan all typed out neatly with headings and subheadings and explaining everything I desired and needless to say it stayed in my bag and never saw the light of day. Don't bother is my advice to anyone and everyone

About to look at your pics Jeanjeannie...

pwcbird · 02/07/2008 17:38

jeanjeannie. Gorgeous. Names and babies both. Delightful and delicious.

mrsboogie · 02/07/2008 17:53

pcwbird aaaahhh right, I thought it was some kind of new fangled assisted birth type thing. {blush} I'm not scared of "normal" birth - just scared of something going wrong - I think I came quite close last time.

haha -re the birth plan that's exactly what I imagine would happen - its all to unpredictable to try to plan it. Plus I wouldn't know what to put in a birth plan apart from pain relief - YES! and in case of emergency - do whatever has to be done.

I'm sure it would all be very helpful if you were J-Lo in some private palatial hospital full of chilled out not overworked midwives and birthing pools and whale music in pristine rooms but no use to me in the real world I fear...

johnworf · 02/07/2008 17:54

Crikey, I leave you lot alone for an afternoon and I spend hours...yes hours! having to catch up

Beautiful pics jeanjeannie. Fabulous LO's.

Surprised to see that almost everyone wants an Elec C Sec... Glad I missed out on mine TBH. But at 1lb 8oz Katherine was hardly going to do any damage.

OMFG Katherine went onto CPAP today!! Huzzah. I did a little dance around the NICU I was so happy. She may not stay on it for long but we're gonna suck it and see how she goes. I feel that some progress is coming our way at long last

I've also booked an appointment with the unit's counsellor. Both me and DH are going on Monday...it's not for marriage guidance or anything just to vent, have a moan and see if she's got any ideas.

jeanjeannie · 02/07/2008 17:57

Awww...cheers everyone...we both think our girls are scrummy. And yes mrsboogie I think c-sections sometimes means no squished heads!

And why the cement mixer? well, it was for for an article in YOU mag and the photographer took one look at our house and almost died through lack of inspiration So, DP - being a builder said "I've got a cement mixer...I've always wanted to put her in that"...Lightbulb moment...photographer was thrilled and it made a double page in the mag! I thought the NSPCC would come round...although there was a lovely thick blanket in there!

Hahahah pwcbird that birth plan 'essay' sounds soooo familiar. I found mine the other day.....total work of fiction...none of it came true

jeanjeannie · 02/07/2008 18:04

johnworf OOOooooooo HOORAH!!! *claps and does a jig around... FANbloodyTASTIC! Oh good luck with it all....finally, like you say, you're seeing some progress

Venting is good...sounds like a plan...could be the start of everything now moving more quickly towards the end goal of getting Katherine home with a less stressed mum and dad...well done you

*sorry if posts from now on miss out a W...Iris has mullered it and you've got to bash it to make it work!

Jackie77 · 02/07/2008 18:08

What gorgeous LOs jeanjeannie. It is so good to see someone use the word "fab" in the same sentence as "c sec" you have made me feel much better. After 5 weeks how are you feeling - how close to back to normal?

hedgepig · 02/07/2008 18:25

well done Catherine what a big step. JW hope she copes well and goes from strength to strength.
MrsB sorry about the acronym its just less to type and I feeling very lazy indeed.
Jackie you asked about speeding recovery from a section I suppose don't over do things and listen to you body is the best advice. With my cs I did overdo it a bit and was having abdominal aches for much longer than the 6 weeks. After the op you will be full of wind and probably constipated (sorry if TMI) so drink lots and take some dried fruit into hosp with you.
