@Backtotheicsi biggest congratulations on your baby girl, you must have been so worried but it’s lovely to hear things are all in the right direction, hope you are recovering fro your c section ok and enjoying all the love for your girl 🥰🩷

Backtotheicsi · 01/04/2026 16:03

Thanks ladies, I am bouncing back now I think as things are improving but there will be lots of pushing for better for other women and babies when things settle down. Really disappointed by the lack of support for a mum 2 days after surgery in alder hey. I was promised community midwife support and received none and I couldn’t have cared less anbout myself during that time because of baby girl being in ICU. a week later was back in maternity triage with again high blood pressure having gone unmonitored. That time in Liverpool women’s who were then more supportive. But as I say we are back home in wales now. I will try to keep checking in to hear about all your little or not so little ones being born over the next few months. 💗

magpie234 · 01/04/2026 16:03

@Backtotheicsi Goodness this sounds so so so so hard. So sorry to hear what a hellish journey you and your baby girl have had. How scary… thanks for taking the time to update us and suggest being viligant with our bp. Huge congratulations and so glad to hear that she is on the up. Bless her. Lots of love to you.

pastelheart · 01/04/2026 18:54

@Backtotheicsi omg I am so glad you are both okay and doing well considering. I didnt want to bug you by tagging you in the group but wish I had now to check on you, so sorry.

congratulations on the birth of your daughter 🩷 how many weeks was she born at?

and I didn’t realise you were in wales too! We might be neighbours and not even know it! X

I am feeling quite let down by my midwife atm

i think I mentioned that at my last midwife appt my urine flagged infection and they just kept making me drop off more samples (like why are you so obsessed with my wee honestly) but didn’t actually do anything and then when I ended up in hospital they finally gave me antibiotics…

well at my appointment today she told me my iron was extremely low from my blood test 3 weeks ago and she’s sorry she didn’t call me to let me know……… so I have been feeling like absolute DEATH for 3 weeks and being really emotional and worrying how I am going to cope for another 9 weeks until birth feeling this bad when I could have just had iron tablets 3 weeks ago. And the low iron explains all my bad symptoms too. So really really frustrating. My iron was 6 or something and it should be over 30 so that’s great xx

OP posts:
SarahAndQuack · 01/04/2026 21:18

That's really poor, @pastelheart. I've never had it but I know from others that low iron makes you feel absolutely awful. You shouldn't have had to put up with that. I'm glad you're on iron now, but yes, I'd feel pretty pissed off!

As a side thing ... is everyone else finding BadgerNotes really crap? I never seem to be able to find anything, and half the time the results just show up as 'not published' or something. It doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that the people who need to see the info can actually see it - and I wonder if that's what happened with your iron result, too!

magpie234 · 01/04/2026 22:35

@pastelheart That is really poor. My ferritin came back as 13 and I am on iron tablets too. Tbc if it improves enough before my c-section 4 weeks today. Might need an infusion. I was so fatigued but the tablets have been helping. Hopefully they do for you too.

@SarahAndQuack Oh yeah it seems so dated and clunky 🙄

Nosejug · 02/04/2026 07:33

Oh my word what a lot to catch up up…

congratulations @Backtotheicsi on the birth of your daughter! It sounds like a hellish ride and she was so tiny, I’m guessing she was born pretty early? I hope she’ll be piling on the pounds swiftly and that she’s all healed from surgery. What a start in life. Have you recovered well from surgery? I hope your BP has settled. I can imagine the anger I’d feel at the lack of care, but you’re absolutely right to sit that aside until there’s space to deal with it. Thank you truly for coming back here to flag it with us, how quickly things can turn ♥️ (don’t worry about replying to this!)x

Nosejug · 02/04/2026 08:16

I’m @pastelheart wtf?! “Sorry I forgot to tell you you’re quite severely anemic”. What’s the point of doing tests if they don’t bother actioning them? In Scotland I think the protocol is 3x iron a week prophylactically for everyone whether it’s low or not, I’ve been on it since 12 week scan.

how is your kidney infection now? Again, angry about this not being treated!

the upside is that with treatment hopefully you can start feeling better. Maybe demand the “better” iron tablets that don’t make you as constipated since they messed up.

Nosejug · 02/04/2026 08:23

@zirafica congrats on reaching 20 week scan! Have you had it yet? I’m on a different pathway bc of cervix but after my weekly scans finished at 23 weeks I went on to fortnightly growth scans that started at 25 weeks. 40 (turned during pregnancy) & ivf I think are the factors. I agree with (sorry I can’t remember who) saying that less could be better, I’ve only had two so far, the first was around 25-30th %le and second is ~60th so presumably one or both are inaccurate! (I’m interpreting these figures from a tiny pixelated graph graphic on badger hence the guesses.)

Nosejug · 02/04/2026 08:25

I know you’ve all been waiting on an update about my sore toes, so I’ll tell you, they’re still increasingly sore! Of all the negative pregnancy symptoms and complications, I’ll take it 🙃

magpie234 · 02/04/2026 12:47

Our nursing chair we have waited 3 months for (holding up the rest of our furniture delivery) just arrived and the delivery men couldn’t get it up the stairs (too big). So now it is sitting in our living room taking up half of it and we have no chair and have to spend £40 to get it collected. Bigger problems of course but whyyyyyy 😭

zirafica · 02/04/2026 15:48

@Nosejughi!! Just got back from it! Everything perfectly normal and tracking as it should be ♥️♥️

Nosejug · 02/04/2026 16:16

Yayayayyy @zirafica ! Sunny news :)

and ahhh @magpie234 oh no how annoying! What chair was it?? Must be massive 😬

magpie234 · 02/04/2026 16:44

@zirafica Yay! Lovely reassuring news before the bank holiday for you 😊

@Nosejug Tbf it is huge and we did not measure it properly first… one that swivels and all that jazz from Mamas & Papas. But also we have a tall narrow house. Not sure any chair comfy and supportive enough is going to fit up the stairs. But would like somewhere up here to feed her other than the bed ideally. The hunt will have to resume! If anyone has any tips I am all ears… tricky when a lot are online so not able to try first.

Nosejug · 02/04/2026 21:12

Hmm I’ll have a think @magpie234… some kind of version that can be put together upstairs? Or do it like the Dutch… a pulley on the bedroom window to hoist it up! Heh

SarahAndQuack · 02/04/2026 21:14

I really, really want one of those classic white-painted wooden rocking chairs that seem to be standard in American medical dramas (and, I presume, in American maternity wards! Grin). I've been watching farrrrr too much ER.

magpie234 · 02/04/2026 21:46

@Nosejug Ha! God that would be a nightmare 😅. I think yeah it will have to be one that can be assembled once up there. Or just one less wide. There seem to be some Ikea ones people like and another from John Lewis so will prob try one of those. Half the price too!

@SarahAndQuack Ooh the JL looks a bit like that maybe. By a brand called Kub? Shall report back on what I go for! Mainly want it to be supportive with a high enough back to rest my head on.

CloudyIvy55 · 03/04/2026 13:36

@Backtotheicsiwow! That sounds all very difficult. Massive congratulations on your baby girl and I really hope your both doing OK x

@pastelheartthat's totally rubbish care from your midwife! Glad you've got it sorted now but I would be feeling pissed off also!

@ziraficalovely news on the scan! I've only had 12 and 20 weeks scans and won't get another with my trust 😕

@magpie234annoying about the chair! I said I would like a nursing chair in front of my MIL and she very kindly went and got me one...however , at the risk of sounding like a spoilt brat, it's not the one I would have chosen and isn't very comfy 🤦‍♀️

34 weeks for me today. I'm trying to pack a hospital bag and struggling....especially on what I need to pack for the baby. I've currently got 3 sleepsuits and 3 vests all in 0-3 months - do I need to get some newborn size ones also? I'm all for only buying what we really need. I'm also suddenly feeling massively unprepared for actually becoming a Mum....I've got no idea what I'm doing 😂

pastelheart · 03/04/2026 13:52

@SarahAndQuack yeah I really feel like death, I wake up the same amount of exhausted that I went to bed, and on top of the low iron I’m still sleeping rubbish. I had a little cry this morning as I slept in til 9am which I never do and I was still tired and just feeling a bit emotional I think. Yes agreed badger notes is crap, in this digital world you would have thought they would have invested in something better.

@magpie234how long did it take for you to start feeling a bit better after taking the tablets? Omg nightmare about the chair!

@Nosejug I know, so rubbish. My partner was with me but he didn’t cotton on until after we left that she had just forgot and he is fuming too. Yeah kidney injection seems fine, I have a few more days of antibiotics now and looking forward to stopping though as they have kicked off a yeast infection so that’s super super fun 🤩

@zirafica congrats on your good 20 week scan, it’s such a relief isn’t it

@CloudyIvy55yeah still feeling pissed off about it ☹️🙃

so my first baby was born at 8lb 4oz and I suspect this baby is going to be bigger. In his hospital bag I have packed first size and up to one month (I think up to one month is up to 10lbs) I only have a couple of first size baby grows/vests and outfit but they do come out quite squished (and first size is up to about 8.5lb) so I don’t expect baby to be in those for long at all.

with my son I was in hospital for 5 days with him as he was poorly, but I’m not going to take enough for a longer stay initially. I am just going to take enough for 1 day and have a second bag packed at home for IF we stay in longer (for me and him)

Hope this helps xx

34 weeks! Goodness.

I also feel a bit of guilt creeping in that I'm not prepared - I keep telling myself at some point later on the nesting instinct will kick in and I'll race around being terribly motivated. Grin

I'm 29 weeks so I have ages, right?!

Might just be me but if the baby's measuring big I'd not stress too much. The worst that'll happen is they'll be comically bundled up in a too-big sleepsuit! DD wasn't huge (8lb10) and we had newborn things that were never worn as too tiny. I'm going to bung the newborn stuff in the hospital bag because I've got it. But anything you desperately need can be there within 24 hours with Amazon, so it's not dire.

The big tip I have kept in mind is remembering to pack a big enough water bottle so you can fill it with warm water for the first post-birth wee. Grin

SarahAndQuack · 03/04/2026 13:59

I cross-posted with you @pastelheart. I'm so sorry you are still feeling so rotten. Sad

I'm not sleeping well either - it's really annoying me. I'm not working full time over Easter and because I'm freelance I don't always have a 9am start anyway, but it really annoys me that on the days I don't need to be up, it's so easy to wake up with a jolt at 9.30 or 10 and then I feel really groggy all day and can't sleep until 2 or 3am. It's a vicious cycle. I do try to just go with it and work late at night but I don't like how it feels.

@magpie234 - sorry, I saw your post about the JL chair and forgot to reply. It is quite like that! But I'm still havering. I love antique furniture (because I am a cheapskate and it's generally more affordable for the quality) and I am also thinking about lovely Victorian dark-wood rocking chairs I'm seeing. And wondering whether a rocking chair is actually a lovely idea that'll never get used! Grin

Nosejug · 03/04/2026 14:57

@SarahAndQuack we got two ercol rocking chairs from the local auctioneers, £120 for the both of them! I’m def gonna put one in babies room (though they were bought out of love of chairs… I’ve weirdly found myself to be a bit of a chair collector probs cos of the auctioneers). Also it’s the first house/home I’ve ever owned and it’s soooo fun buying things for it! We also get old wood (not
mid century) furniture cheap as chips it is! Just got to be prepared to check and treat woodworm 😬

I do like ercol! Which ones are they, if you don't mind me asking? I keep seeing the 'grandfather' chairs, but I can't tell if they'd be uncomfortably high off the ground? I'm 5'5 and I hate it when you can't comfortably sit.

Nosejug · 03/04/2026 15:22

ours are actually quite low. Same as This one on eBay. But obvs a lottt cheaper! EBay/etsy are always way more expensive than local auctions for mid century stuff.

i can’t believe you’re still gardening @SarahAndQuack I knelt ~on the bed~ last night and my knee gave a strong pin point pain!! I can barely bend down to pick stuff up and I’m a week behind you!
