Just back from my GP check up - all looking good. I’ve really bad back pain the last few days and he reckons I might have pulled something. Recommended exercises and a birthing ball

Sorry to hear you are going through this. How old is little one? As they go through a fussy stage naturally where your milk goes from watery to more fatty milk so they have to work harder to get the milk. Normally around 6-8 weeks, I remember with my first ds after this stage it settled then he started to go longer between feeds as the milk was more fatty so filled up for longer. Does that make sense?

She will be 7 weeks tomorrow so that makes sense! We are going to try bottles this week so maybe that will help her settle a bit more.
Thank you x

Are any other breastfeeding mums struggling in the evenings? I know witching hour is a thing but she is cluster feeding (fine) then she will start crying with the boob in her mouth so I wind her, check nappy, try to cuddle and bounce her to sleep but she keeps mouthing and eating my shoulder/arm/chest like she’s hungry so I put her back on the boob and in a minute or so she’s crying again 😩 try giving her to dad in case it’s the smell of milk making her mouth but she doesn’t really want it and she’s trying to eat his chest as well 😅

She’s having enough wet and dirty nappies. HVs are on strike in my area so she won’t be weighed for another week but she was gaining as expected at the last weigh.

Makes me feel like I’m not supplying enough for her in the evenings though because she’s getting frustrated when she’s nursing.. I’m going to a breastfeeding group Friday but if anyone has got any wisdom before then?

Totally normal. Evenings can be a bitch when breastfeeding espcially when babies are learning a new skill. Never bottle fed so don’t know how those that do get through these periods but I just normally wind/nappy and switch to other boob as and when needed.

Holidaysandsunshine · 06/03/2026 21:55

I am no expert but if she is crying on the boob I would think it’s wind or needing a poo or so. I would find a way to move her around so I do a work out video where I do squats while holding her and this often gets a burp up. Also tummy time if 20-30 mins since feed has lapsed. Another thing is to put in a carrier and see if you can get her to sleep without the boob just incase she is over tired. A short walk round the bloc one of mine would get like this and he was actually overfull and would burp and then sleep like a champ. Anther idea is a bath as this can help with tummy ache. Finally lie on changing mat and do massage where you bicycle the legs. So if mine drools milk when I change them then there is 100% a trapped burp. Good luck

How is everyone doing?

We hit the two month mark yesterday - on one hand it feels crazy to think she is two months already but on the other it feels like she’s always been here.

We were away again this weekend from Friday until today at a dance competition. We had much better luck with the travel cot and she slept good in it which is hopefully a good sign for when she moves to her cot.

She was great at the competition - a full weekend of lots of noise between the music and the kids and not a botheron her - even slept through a live band 😂😂 I had brought baby ear defenders with me but she found these more uncomfortable than the music. She got lots of cuddles as it was the first time a lot of the others had gotten to see her and attended her first gala so got to wear a pretty dress.

We bottle feed but harry definitely started to have a witching hour took a few days to realise he was super overtired and he likes this bed time routine starting alot earlier than I previously thought and tis helped loads. He got himself so worked up one night he kept losing his breath. Xxx

Oh Nora is exactly the same at bed time. My older two were happy to just sleep on you at bedtime so I could watch grown up TV with DH but Nora gets to 7/7.30 and is inconsolable if you try to settle her downstairs. Take her up to bed and she’s happy chatting away before falling asleep for the night.

Confusedmermaid1 · 11/03/2026 20:53

Robyn will be 8 weeks tomorrow and her length was measured and she was on the 98th centile so it’s not surprising that her 0-3m sleep suits don’t fit anymore! 😭 obviously I’m glad she’s growing but my tiny baby is just growing up so fast I can’t believe it.
75th centile for weight and head circumference so more typical there.

From the sounds of it there won’t be any more appointments until her 6 month appointment because HVs are on strike so no baby clinics which is a shame. We could measure ourselves at home I suppose 😂

She’s got her jabs tomorrow, I’m dreading it! I’m sure she will be fine but when we went to her 6 week check up they obviously do jabs the same day and they were all coming out crying, broke my heart! DH is taking a long lunch to come with just in case I’m pathetic 😅😂

I think this was the main problem.. at first she was fine settling downstairs with us until we were ready for bed but now she wants to be upstairs a lot earlier. Slightly baffles me because she’s still in the Moses basket in the next to me so it’s literally the exact same sleeping surface as she has downstairs 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 the girl knows what she wants and evidently it’s no TV and the red nightlight..

I read somewhere (probably instagram 😅) that 6-8 weeks is peak fussiness for babies so hopefully evenings will improve because she’s still a bit upset when feeding sometimes, today it started around 5:30 so too early for bed!

Jadeypie · 12/03/2026 04:54

Aww can see we are all in the similar boat with how are babys are behaving ha mine also likes to be upstairs in bed with no telly tbh indont blame them i feel like my house is chaos . Totally agree with the peak fussiness being between 6-8.

Harry had his needles yesterday his little face was heartbreaking he was not happy! He did enjoy his first calpol though hahaha.

Regarding weight and height ect in your red book there's a little estimate of height when they are adults by the height chart in the back. If thats correct my harry is going to be one tall boy!!

Anyone els feel like pregnancy was such a long time ago even though it wasnt? We was all talking about syntoms and now its all babies. Its nice we still check in with each other from time to time xx

I had a bit of an issue with the evening feeds but the health visitor said it was likely because I wasn’t finding time to eat as much as I should during the day so my milk wasn’t rich enough by the evening. I now try and eat more, including some small item every time I feed baby and it seems to have done the trick.

Question for bottle feeding mammas. How do you handle night feeds? I'm currently taking baby downstairs feeding and pumping and then taking her back up to bed. We've just got a prep machine and will start using it. Can I prep bottles in advance and heat them up? Do you make bottles up upstairs and feed upstairs? Trying to minimise disruption now baby is more alert generally.

Happy Mother’s Day 💕 I use prep machine over night. But fridge method through the day and just warm the bottles up. That’s just because I couldn’t be bothered to keep bringing the prep machine upstairs then back downstairs in the morning. Atlas also been ill so some of his feeds have been pre made bottles 🙈 as we both wasn’t getting any sleep

I exclusively bottle feed. I premake bottle and store them in the fridge. I have the Tommee Tippee bottle warmer and heat them using that. During the night I get up with her as the others are asleep and up for work / school the next day. I get up - put the bottle in the warmer in the kitchen, then I go into the living room and change her nappy. By the time I change her the bottle is newly ready (she drinks it lukewarm). I get the bottle and feed her in the living room and then back to bed. Takes about 30-40 minutes.

depending on his mood the dog will come downstairs with me or else he’ll look at me when I get out of the bed and then lay back down 😂😂

I know it’s surreal! I remember last Mother’s Day - I was on round 3 of the IVF and said to my best friend that next year I’d either be celebrating my first Mother’s Day as a mam or that I never would.

Do you let baby wake you up when she wants a feed at night? I've been setting an alarm every 3.5 hours overnight but now she's taking 4oz she's going longer between feeds. I want to start waiting for her to wake me up for a feed overnight.

@WildFinch yeah, I let Atlas wake me up overnight when he wants feeding. He tends to do 9 pm until 2 am and then wakes up again at five until about seven sometimes eight depending if it gets woken up by my older boy. As long as babies is at birth, you can let them sleep. That’s what my HV and Midwife’s told me anyway.

WanderWalker · 16/03/2026 23:57

@WildFinch just to chip in 😊 I feed my little one regularly during the day (around every 3 hours) and at night I just let her wake me. She usually has a feed around 11-12pm and then sleeps till 6.30-7.30 ish. I was told the same as @Sunshinemoom by my HV as long as they have passed their birth weight and putting on weight steadily it’s okay to do that x

I never wake her for a bottle either during the day or night. During the day she feeds roughly every 3 hours. She gets a bottle around 10 at night and goes down until about 4/5, feeds and the back down and usually wakes 2.5 hours later.
