Welcome to all who have recently joined us from the MC Avengers thread. It's always good to see "graduates" from that thread. Wishing you all happy and uneventful pregnancies although sorry to hear some of you are having a worrying time.
Cupcake How are you today? Has the bleeding stopped? Fingers crossed for you.
Seshas Hope you're OK too.
Kate I don't know if it's the same one Daisy was referring to but I read Lesley Regan's "Miscarriage: what every woman needs to know" and I found it really good and helpful. She comes across as being very much on top of her research but has a lot of empathy IYSWIM.
Hope everybody else is OK

dan39 · 01/09/2008 12:29

seshas - I was just thinking, I was very similar to you - mmc in April at 12 weeks so no realy worries about blood. What we did to deal with the second pg was ignore it - I really didn't want to invest in it at all as I was so scared it would happen again. So we tried to put it to one side - went to Spain for a weekend; planned a hol at xmas, made dates for the future for things we would do; applied for a new and 'totally unsuitable to being pg' job - almost to offset the idea of becoming parents (like you, I have no dc at present and we had tried for 18 months before the pg that ended in April).

It helped enormously when I bled at 7 weeks too, as I had almost already 'given up' on it working - then to my shock and delight (but fear too) it was still there!

I KNOW everyone is different and its really hard to 'ignore' this when you want it so much - but it really, really hepled us. So of course did the scan at 7 and then the one we had at 9 weeks (to check it was still there following the mmc danger time). If you can, its worth a try. Its a bit like being silently optimistic!

tsom · 01/09/2008 15:23

welcome to all new ladies, would also recommend lesley regans book, very level headed whilst compassionate.

mm1509 scan waits are awful, of course the days will eventually pass - just seems to take forever

Had my first scan sat morning after spotting on thursday - as some of you will know I was convinced it would be another mmc due to less nausea after 6 weeks - even told the scan lady so before she started so she wouldn't feel embarrassed to have to tell me bad news, but oh no there was in fact a 9+4 baby in there with a heart beat and everything! Just shows how you can worry yourself silly. Reason for less nausea - maybe because on hols and able to eat and rest more? So I guess degree of preg symptoms is unreliable measure of pg outcome. Spotting seems to have stopped but still checking my knickers (obviously).

Fingers crossed for everyones beans

cricri · 01/09/2008 16:12

tsom That's great news, I'm really pleased for you Did you get a picture of your bean? I agree that symptoms are unreliable - I had ms for several weeks in my last pg before being told at my 12-week scan that the baby had stopped developing at 6 weeks. Fingers crossed you have an uneventful pg from now on.

maz32 · 01/09/2008 16:37

bye ladies as we thought had scan today and not gud news but i dont need any intervention as nothing left to pass. thanx 4 the support xxxxxx

cricri · 01/09/2008 16:57

Maz so sorry to hear your sad news Hope to see you back again very soon. Look after yourself.

SesHasapinkline · 01/09/2008 17:05

Hi! This thread's been busy today!

Maz - don't think we've ever "chatted" but sending you hugs and chocolate. There's nothing I can say that will make it better but hope to see you soon. Take care.

dan39 - does sound v similar! How many weeks are you now?

tsom - wow! That must have been fantastic! Can't wait to hear a heartbeat...

Hello everyone else!

dan39 · 01/09/2008 17:13

maz so sorry - look after yourself and come back soon with news, you know where we are if you need us.

seshas I am 17 weeks and have a bump and everything! Can't quite believe it and enjoy it as I worry at every stage that its gone again...hearing the hb is wonderful but I can't do it every day!! Been hanging out here since about 7 weeks and it has been a total godsend...I get withdrawl sympotoms when away from a computer!!

tsom great news, you are at a good stage!! Keep on sticking through the bext days, little bean!!

cupcake hope you are okay today.

kizzie · 01/09/2008 18:15

Hi ladies - can i just butt in to your thread please.

Im writing for my sister. She has been ttc for 3 years and been having IUI. Shes had one MMC and one chemical pregnancy and had a BFP last week. (5 weeks + 0)

She is absolutely terrified and so upset because of previous problems. She has a scan booked on 15th Sep (so 2 weeks today).

One thing that has worried her is that shes been doing lots of the clearblue digital tests. But last wed she bought one of the new ones by mistake which also shows the time since conception. On thursday this showed 3+ weeks (which actually would have been slightly too far ahead for her dates) but then the next day it showed 2-3 weeks so she is terrified her levels were dropping. She now doesnt want to do anymore tests because they are upsetting her too much and her dr doesnt do blood tests so she is just trying to calm down until the scan.

Has anyone else done these new tests and were they accurate or not?

Thanks everyone.

Kizzie xxx

daisyj · 01/09/2008 18:42

Hi kate. Yes, it's the one cricri says: Miscarriage: What Every Woman Needs to Know. It's so hard to know what might make you (or anyone) worry more. I worry about everything, but I figure that the more information the better. You could check out the Amazon reviews and see if that gives you a feel for whether it might be right for you. I just tend to think that although (particularly internet) knowledge can be a dangerous thing, it's also really important to have as much information as possible so that you can ask all the right questions. You seem so well informed and good at asking for what you need already, but hey, a bit more information can't go amiss, I'm sure .

Swaliswan - will you have an early scan, hon? I nearly didn't bother, but my mum persuaded me to, and it made a huge difference.

cupcake - hope all turns out to be OK. So sorry you're having to go through this.

maz for you. Really hope to see you back here soon. Look after yourself. x

tsom - great news . I saw my 9+4 baby on Friday after a similar panic, so I know just exactly how you feel, and it's wonderful! Doesn't stop you checking your knickers, though, as your rightly say

kate2179 · 01/09/2008 19:10

Thanks Daisy - I have a used copy from Amazon winging its way towards me as we speak! (or type...) have decided that if it upsets me I'll just burn it

Maz so sorry to hear your sad news, look after yourself

Kizzie am so sorry to hear what your sister is going through, but tbh your post has confirmed what I already thought, that I prob will not ever use one of the new CBD tests even though I have a free one. They just have too much potential to cause worry IMO. There are any number of reasons why it might have given your sister the results it did, most of which are NOT bad news. For example, her wee may have been more dilute the second time which would affect the levels. But please tell her that even if her levels are falling (which they may well NOT BE) that doesn't necessarily mean all is lost. I was told by my epu the last time I was pg that 1 in 5 women who have falling hcg levels go on to have a healthy pg. They don't know why the levels sometimes fall, they just do. Yes, it is often a bad sign, but not always, and 20% isn't so bad in the circumstances. FWIW I will not have my hcg levels taken next time for that very reason, even if my doctor would do it. I think that is also the reason why some trusts (I imagine including your sister's) won't do it - maybe quite sensibly.
HTH. {{{hugs}}} to your sister.

kizzie · 01/09/2008 19:24

Hi Kate - thanks for replying. I agree - i think this test in particular can cause a lot of worry. I had my children via ICSI treatment so I did a LOT of tests but these werent around then and Im pleased because I know they would have worried me.

She did the two tests both with first morning sample but i keep telling myself that maybe she had more to drink one of the night before than the other.

Just praying all goes ok for her. x

Swaliswan · 01/09/2008 19:28

Maz so sorry to hear your news

Daisyj I don't think that I'll be offered an early scan but you never know. I'm waiting to see what my GP says on thursday. However, I'm starting to get ever more hopeful. I feel more and more pg every day (feeling very sick and tired today but was assisting in theatre all day so that didn't help!). I'm starting to think about the fact that we might be having a baby rather than just thinking that I'm pg iyswim. I would love to book a private scan but there is nowhere to go in Southampton and I'm not sure that we can afford it after scraping the car the other day I blame it on pg hormones!

Kizzie I would never buy one of those new CBD tests having been given a free one for the exact problems that your dsis is having. I used one at 4+1 and it said not pg. I was convinced that my pg symptoms must all be in my head. When I was 5+0 I did a test to be sure with a Sainsbury's cheapie and it had the darkest line I've ever seen on a pg test. I'm not sure that they are very accurate. As Kate says, there is plenty of scope for levels being different with more dilute urine. I don't think that the literature helps that comes with the tests. Tell her to see her GP to try and get an earlier scan and try to relax in the mean time.

winemakesmummyclever · 01/09/2008 19:47

Evening everyone!

Hi to the new ladies - seshas , ladyhelen, sussex and saliswan - so many of you, hope I haven't missed anyone. Good to see you here and fingers crossed for all of you!

Maz - am so sorry that the scan confirmed your fears. Please take time to grieve and allow those close to you to love and look after you. Hope to see you back on here in the very near future. Take care x.

cupcake - hope that the bleeding has eased off and that the epu look after you properly. Try to stay positive (difficult I know) and get as much rest as you can.

dan - glad you have got a supportive care team - it makes all the difference, imho, when you have people that you can talk to about your worries (apart from us that is ) and build a positive relationship to help you through what is always a difficult and worrying time for every woman.

easyjules - hope are still getting along fine and enjoying being back in the saddle (nudge nudge, wink wink)

Have got a community mw appt on Thursday pm, just a quick check up and to have a listen to the lo. Getting a wee bit paranoid over the last couple of days that she won't find a fhb. Have to tell myself that I am being a bit of drama queen and give myself a good boot up the jacksy in order to stop it. Feel free to join in and keep my overactive imagination in check! Don't have my proper booking in appt for another couple of weeks - hate having to hang around the hospital ANC for hours to be prodded and poked by different anonymous docs each time, repeating my history etc. Far nicer when seeing my community mw who actually knows me and reads/remembers my notes, but have to have consultant led care so have to put up with it .

Phew, long post and a bit of rant to boot. Better slink off to a land of lavender scented bubbles and get ds in the bath and see which Thomas the Tank Engine story we'll be having at bedtime tonight.

Nighty night all x.

scotlass · 01/09/2008 20:46

Hi everyone, wow loads of new bfp's in the last week - brilliant!!!!! Hello to all (too many to name I think!)

Maz I'm so so sorry. I can't believe it hasn't worked out for you this time, I really hope you get through this sad time and have lots of support in RL. Hopefully see you on here again soon.

kizzie I used one of the new cb with conception indicator freebie and it showed me to be 4-5wks pg when date wise I was 6+. I didn't read the instruction properly and used 2nd wee of the day (too impatient to wait for the next day). It was a freebie trial via MN and I did write in the feedback form I felt it caused unneccessary stress and was actually detrimental to my mental well being having suffered x3 mc's in past. I had a scan that week anyway and luckily saw a sac and fetal pole so was reassured and figured the length of my cycle may be longer than normal having had a mc 2 mths
previously.

kate I succumbed and bought lesley regans book a coupke of weeks ago and found it interesting and informative. I think it's worth a read and doesn't scare you too much, unlike googling which I wish I hadn't done as the statistics of me having a normal pg this time look rather off putting (I think it said 46% following 3 - not sure that's helping my panics)

tsom

Well update from old scotty here is I should be 8wks on Wed and I've had the most horrendous nausea all day today (just appeared out of the blue weird), nearly puked on DD as she was putting on school shoes and heading out the door this morning. I've a scan on Wed and should be the MW I normally have so won't need to re explain my paranoia and absolute terror. I don't think I'll ever erase the memory of seeing the baby I lost in Feb on that monitor. I'm too scared to let myself believe this one will be OK but am finding it harder and harder to stay negative. I swear if I go through more weeks of feeling crap for nothing I'll............I'll............... well i don't really know what I'll do but I will be very pissed off.

kate2179 · 01/09/2008 21:05

Swaliswan didn't realise you were in Southampton! There may not be anywhere private there, but there are places in Fareham and Winchester if you're interested . I would wholeheartedly recommend the place in Winchester - the whole thing is consultant lead, you meet the consultant beforehand then he does the scan and talks to you about it afterwards. That's how we met the FANTASTIC consultant we have now. When we first found out there were problems after the 12 week blood results he had us straight back in, then saw us every week until we lost our LO at 17 weeks. He has been a huge support both before and since, and after the initial appt it has all been on he nhs so we haven't had to pay for it, but it's been a bit like seeing him privately due to the level of care we have received and how easy it is to get in touch with him if we need to speak to him - we just ring his secretary . Rant over. Phew! I don't mean for a minute that you are going to have problems, but seeing a good consultant can only be a good thing surely?

EasyJules - see what you get for trying a new nickname?

Right. Am definitely going to bugger off now. Am on here far too much for someone who isn't even pg

winemakesmummyclever · 01/09/2008 21:17

"easyjules" - thought that might get a few sniggers. Think she should name change?!?

easyjules · 01/09/2008 21:42

redseasharon · 01/09/2008 23:02

Hi I am 5/40, have a DD3 and then 1 MMC 12w and MC 6 wks. I am knicker checking all the time . Also I am going to Florida in 11 days time with DH, DD and my parents. I am really scared soemthing bad will happen when I am away. What's earliest u can have scan at EPU?

SesHasapinkline · 02/09/2008 07:26

Morning all!
Well I've now gone 2 mornings without doing a hpt (having got 3 BFPs). I'll probably do another one tomorrow (14dpo) and if still positive I'll make an appointment with GP and try and get an early scan at EPU. I reckon they'll probably do one at about 7 weeks. Only(??!??) 3 weeks of waiting then!!
Have some definite symptoms and boobs are getting more tender and sore by the day!

I found your list and have added myself to the bottom! Bit hesitant to do that so soon but I'm having an excited moment rather than a worrying moment. Thought I'd make the most of it as the worrying moments definitely take up most of the time!
