Sonographer dropping a hint at scan today?!

Hi ladies, we had our 20 week scan today and made it clear to the sonographer we do NOT want to find out the gender - so want a surprise. At the end, she handed our sweet scan pic and said "and I've made sure you can't tell what it is on these pics". To me, that feels an untactful hint that it's a boy, not that we'd mind of course, but we so wanted a surprise and no hints! I suppose I think this as you wouldn't be able to tell it's a girl from the scan picture. Saying that, perhaps it wouldn't be possible to see boy bits on there anyway - am I overthinking this??! Was she just being kind and reassuring or has she dropped a MASSIVE hint?

Overthinking!!!!

Vallmo47 · 12/09/2025 18:56

You are overthinking because there are ways to tell if it’s a girl also and many know them - I won’t share what they are. :)

CopperWhite · 12/09/2025 18:56

Massively overthinking. It’s really not that important to the sonographer.

pinkyredrose · 12/09/2025 18:57

Why don't you want to find out? It'll be a surprise whenever you know surely?

PracticeBestPractice · 12/09/2025 18:58

Overthinking, I think.

Dueindecemberr · 12/09/2025 18:58

Overthinking. I was convinced I’m having a boy after the sonographer said it was really obvious. It’s a girl.

Sunshineclouds11 · 12/09/2025 18:59

Over thinking.

seeing it's a girl is just as easy as seeing it's a boy.

to me, it sounds like she hasn't included any potty shots in the scan pics she's gave you

Violetmouse · 12/09/2025 18:59

You can tell if it's a girl on scans too. The sonographer is just doing their best to respect what you want.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 12/09/2025 18:59

You can see girl genitals on a 20 week scan. They aren't just checking for the absence of a penis to tell whether it's a girl.

supportergirl · 12/09/2025 18:59

No, there's ways to tell either way, she's not to know if you know them or not

Because it’s lovely waiting and finding out at the birth! For me I don’t want to find out as I have to have a planned c section, so definitely want something left as a surprise.

But yes, you’re overthinking it. There are ways to tell either way.

DorothyGaleFromKansas · 12/09/2025 19:00

Seriously?

Overthebow · 12/09/2025 19:01

You’re overthinking as you can definitely see both boy and girl bits on the scans. My girl scan was obviously a girl and my boy one obviously a boy.

Newsenmum · 12/09/2025 19:02

Nope. It would be quite
obvious if a girl too!! Lack of penis / 3 lines surely just as obvious?

IwouldlikeanewTV · 12/09/2025 19:02

Overthinking. A girl isn’t just a boy without a penis.

DappledThings · 12/09/2025 19:03

Definitely overthinking. I remember thinking DC2 must be a boy because the time he told us to look away from the screen was so short and I had it in my head it's easier to spot a penis so. Total nonsense, it was absolutely not a hint and DC2 was a girl.

LittleGreenDuck · 12/09/2025 19:04

We didn't want to know at the 20 week scan. I asked the sonographer if she could tell and she said "oh yes". From that, I assumed boy. I had a girl.

GingerPants · 12/09/2025 19:05

Your sonagrapher sounds like she was doing her absolute best to accommodate you.

germanshepforever · 12/09/2025 19:07

Heyy, we said the same at my scan we didn’t want to know, and the sonographer midway said “oh I can definitely tell what your having” so I assumed he meant a boy and was convinced, then we ended up having a girl ☺️ so I think you are probably just over thinking it

randomusernam · 12/09/2025 19:07

I could tell mine was a girl from one of our scans

HelloGreen · 12/09/2025 19:11

There’s a specific way you can tell for both, you’re overthinking.

thecomedyofterrors · 12/09/2025 19:14

Definitely overthinking- you’d possibly see boys hits, but you’d equally notice the absence of them.

Emsie1987 · 12/09/2025 19:14

Over thinking... My baby was referred to as she in the scan and I assumed she had slipped up. I had a boy

BeavisMcTavish · 12/09/2025 21:01

Totally overthinking,,. You can tell both ways, unless you’re assuming a boy has a massive wang between his legs at 20 weeks (clue, he wouldn’t).

Blessedbethefruitz · 12/09/2025 21:05

I couldn't tell with ds my first but it was apparently very obvious. During my second pregnancy scan, I'd looked at scan pics and spotted it (girl) ages before she told us. Dh had no idea!
